I am not fancy.

Guess who will FINALLY tolerate the sand?  She was still very careful with it and wasn’t rolling around in it or anything but I am very proud that she got over her sand phobia.

I saw this snack shack (at Seabright Beach) and loved that it is in the back of an old U-Haul truck.   I was cursing the fact that I didn’t bring money down to the beach with me because snack shack food is always good.

Since it was my cousins first time in Santa Cruz we took her to the famous Marianne’s for ice cream and I had the 10-20-20, aka brownies, oreos and fudge swirls.  My cousin was a genius and asked for whipped cream on hers so I copied her.  The answer to the question that you are thinking right now is: Yes, I do eat ice cream every day of my life.

I am not fancy.  I would SOOOOO much rather have cheap tacos from a little taqueria for dinner than go to eat at a a fancy expensive dinner somewhere.

And I was worried about Brooke having a hard time ditching the bottle….

Speaking of drinks…  It tasted just like water that had fresh blackberries floating around in there.

Off to do one of my hardest training runs in a very long time.  10 miles with speed thrown in.  Pre-coach the only speed work I did was during actual races and I would just run my training miles at a comfortable pace so this should be fun.  A lot of fun.

Best part about my Saturday: I’m crewing for my husband and brother-in-law today at a 100 mile race!!! Then tonight I’ll be pacing my friend and running buddy during the last 30 miles of the race! It’s going to be a long, crazy, amazing day! :)

Reply

That blackberry water sounds really good! I eat an apple with nutbutter pretty much everyday…. ice cream sounds way more exciting!! Good luck on your run. I’m off to Body Pump and a short 3 mile run.

Reply

My long run is 9 miles tomorrow. I won’t be running today because I’m going to a swim meet to watch my 3 nieces race! That will be the best part of today! :)

Reply

So thankful my kids always loved the beach because we are there 4-5 times a week. I can see why Brooke is not thrilled about it though. It’s a strange texture on her cute baby feet!

I love you even more now that I know you prefer the cheaper places too. Our favorite place is a Mexican hole in the wall. It’s so yummy and they all know us by name. They are great with the kids and I would go there over a nicer place anyday.

Reply

I’m glad Brooke can tolerate the sand now! I remember having lots of fun on various beaches as a kid while we were on vacation.

I eat yogurt just about everyday.

Reply

I usually eat peanut butter and honey on an english muffin every morning :) I would LOVE to eat ice cream everyday!
I am going to start bringing back the weekly long run this weekend. Today will be an easy, short run and tomorrow will be my longest run since May!

Reply

I went through a phase where I had greek yogurt just about every day. Because I’m moving, I’m trying to not go grocery shopping very much right now, but once I’m moved I’m sure the habit will kick in again :)

I’m trying to psych myself up right now to do a 15 mile training run.

Best part of my Saturday will going to lunch with good friends at one of my favorite local hot spots.

The best part of our Saturday is taking family pictures :-) Some things I eat every day are apples, vegetables, almond butter, meat/fish and CHOCOLATE! Have a good ten miler!!!

Reply

Step mill this morning then long run tomorrow. Best part of Saturday will be parents and tots swimming lessons with my son…. I sometimes wonder if I love it more than he does (he’s getting use to it). I eat oatmeal and eggs every morning. Ya I know creature of habit, boring:( maybe I’ll have ice cream for breakfast tomorrow lol

Reply

Did 11 miles on trails yesterday & it was brutally hot. I eat a granola bar every day, often pre-run. Good luck on your run!

Reply

I eat dessert every single day. It’s too good not to have it.

Reply

I saw that blackberry water at Costco yesterday :)

Just finished my 10 miler this morning.

Reply

I eat dessert everyday. It might not be ice cream, but I will eat some form of dessert everyday. Sometimes twice a day.

Reply

I definitely eat chocolate everyday! I think today has a nice hour+ run in store for me, but if the weather here doesn’t clear up I might just spin and do the run tomorrow!

Reply

I eat a banana everyday. Brooke’s bathing suit is too cute. I need to find one my size!

Reply

At some point every day, I eat a banana and a hard boiled egg. Not together, but those are the snacks I bring for work very day during the school year and weirdly enough, it just rolled into my summer routine too.

Reply

I typically have a banana everyday – lately I never seem to estimate the number if bananas we need in our house we run out too fast!

First ‘long’ run aftera long while, this wknd. 6 miles planned.

This may be a weird comment…but how cute are Brooke’s elbow dimples?!? :)

Reply

I eat ice cream almost everyday. And certainly COULD!

Today is a sleep in and rest day- I’ll probably do some yoga now that my oldest is up to watch the baby. Tomorrow an easy slow 3 miles. Then Monday I have week 2 of half marathon training- 5 miles. Yikes. Will be the first 5 miles ever.

Tonight, my son (5) is in a play and I get to watch! I’m hearing great things! So that trumps the last few Saturdays for sure!

Reply

I was dying reading this, I’m so with you. Boo to fancy restaurants and YES to ice cream every day!

Reply

I eat salsa every day and 1 waffle with PB and syrup :-)
I wish I could eat ice cream every day but my belly vetos that idea- UGH!!
I had an hour tempo this AM and I have 90 minutes easy tomorrow, leading up to my 50K next Saturday (yikes!!!)
The best part about my Saturday will be having an afternoon to spend with my exclusive dating partner, we have both been SO busy lately that quality time has been hard to come by!

Reply

Brooke is not alone. I hate the sand to this day!

Reply

I eat peanut butter, in some form or another, EVERY day. My mom started me on peanut butter like straight out of the womb (not really, but it was the 80’s so I did start on it within my first year).

Reply

Good luck on your 10 mile run!! I’m sure you will crush it as you always seem to do! I am about to head out for a 12 mile run but currently watching the weather to see where I’ll be running – stupid rain!

Reply

Brooke is so adorable! Still haven’t gotten down to the shore this summer, its crazy! I always have a glass of almond milk with a little protein powder every night before bed haha!

Reply

If I could eat a sprinkled donut every day, I would!

cheap tacos = my kind of date night!

Reply

I am also in love with flavored water, but started making my own thanks to this awesome pitcher. It was on sale for $19.99 at Costco and I use it enough that I could probably write an ad for it.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RUN!!!!! Can’t wait to hear about it!!!

Reply

I eat oatmeal every day and froyo about 5 days a week :) My long run this week was just an easy 14 miler this morning. I was so lucky that it stayed cloudy and kept me “cooler.” The best part of my day today (Sat) is going to be making/eating grilled fluffernutter sammies! I am beyond excited, haha. Hope you’re Speedy 10 miler goes well :)

Reply

I eat Greek yogurt every day– either for breakfast or loaded with berries and nuts and chocolate for dessert.

Reply

I LOVE that picture of Brooke (the first one on the blog), it is way to cute. SO happy she tolerates the sand now, she will love it one day :) I always eat the same breakfast pre-run, banana with almond butter and honey, and almonds :). I have a 10 mile run planned for this morning, so excited!! Hoping that I’m not too sore, so maybe I can go a little further ;). Best part of my day will be wearing my ProCompression socks, I just love them that much lol.

Sippy cups are amazing, don’t waste money on the ones that aren’t insulated.

Reply

I eat a fruit and grain bar most days :)

A 7 miler! Eep! First one ever

My 7 miler, except it is happening on a treadmill

Reply

I am loving Smartfood white cheddar popcorn right now. I used to be a sweets girl until I discovered this stuff (although I still eat dessert of some sort every night too!)

My run this morning was 18 miles-1.5 mi warm up, 5 mile at MP (7:14/mi) then 5 mi easy then 5 more miles at MP then 1.5 mi cool down. I really felt it those last two miles!

The best part of my Saturday is going to downtown ATL to pick up my top 1,000 finishers Peachtree mug!

Reply

Awesome run! Wow!

Reply

I eat peanut butter and bananas every day! Along with SOMETHING sweet whether it’s chocolate, jelly bellies, or ice cream! The best part about my Saturday is lounging around with Elmo and maybe some tanning. Although, I’d much rather be at the beach! Have a great run!

Reply

I eat avocado almost every day in some form… Usually guacamole!

About to go do a relaxed 12 km run with my boy and can’t wait! It’s been a while since we ran together.

My good friends getting married next weekend so we are doing a stagette tonight for her and I can’t wait!!! It’s going to be amazing!!!!! :)

Reply

Oh man! Every time a see a picture of Brooke I feel like having a baby… She’s becoming cuter and cuter day after day!

Tomorrow I’ll be running the Queens 10K-it is a 10K that takes place in a beautiful park in Queens, NY and it’s part of New York Road Runners 5-Borough Series. Good news: it’s flat!!! It will be my first time racing a 10K on a flat course. Bad news: no shade at all and it’s supposed to be crazy humid :(

What do I eat every day? Probably avocado. And kettle corn!

Reply

Ahhhhhh good luck tomorrow! You are going to rock it! Stay hydrated!

Reply

I’m running that race tomorrow too! Looking for a hat and shades to run in the heat!

Hi Janae!! I hope your 10 mile run went well this morning. I took about 3 months off from running for personal reasons and reading your blog has helped me take that first step out the door to begin running again. Although I only did about 2 miles I realize it is enough…as you said in your post about breast feeding and motherhood “we are enough”…thanks for the continuing inspiration! Enjoy your post run relaxation and the great sense of accomplishment!

I am sure you have already smashed your run today! Can’t wait to hear how it goes.

Those tacos and ice cream sound and look delicious. Tonight Ross and I are going on a date night and going to Pizzeria 712. We have been wanting to try it for a long time so I am stoked. I am off to the gym now – I didn’t get up early since Ross and I stayed up waaaayy too late last night. No running still. So elliptical, stairs and weights for me today. I hope you have a great weekend!

Reply

I eat toast with PB and banana every single day. As far as running, I did an easy 10-miler on the trails yesterday (I chose a steep route so I would have to hike a lot of it). Maybe I’ll go with some trail running again, but a less-steep one so I could do continuous running. We’ll see. Have a great weekend :D

Reply

I just found out today that during the Soviet regime in Hungary, their ration consisted of cabbage, frozen turnips and vanilla ice cream. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.. Probably cry because the portions weren’t huge and there was only vanilla flavour?

Reply

I went to Huntington beach a few days ago and had the bessssssssst grilled chicken club sandwich ever. Swiss cheese, chicken breast, lettuce and tomato inside of white bread slathered with butter. HELLOOOO good stuff ;)

Reply

I am far from fancy too. I love little hole in the wall places. My run this morning was about 10.5 miles, 3 were with a womens only running group. It was a lot of fun and reminded me that I actually so like to run.

Reply

I love that Hint water. Yum. Something I eat every day is dark chocolate. In fact, I might go eat some right now. :) My run and the best part of my Saturday are one and the same…I’ve been fighting a foot injury but made it through 15 miles pain-free today! Woot woot!

Reply

My “must eat this every day” item is a bagel. I cannot start my morning without a bagel!

I’m too hungry for fancy restaurants. I like casual every day AND ice cream every day. I’m sure you nailed your run

I eat chocolate everyday – different forms (cookies, candy, cake, ice cream) but always chocolate. I tried to give it up once and lasted about 10 days before I caved in!

Best part of my Saturday is finishing up food prep for a 70th birthday party tomorrow (not mine!) Now I can breeze through tomorrow without a lot of stress.

Reply

I hope your run goes well! And i’m impressed with Brooke’s cup drinking skills, she probably spills less than I do…

Reply

I eat a little bit of dark chocolate every day!
And I did an Olympic Distance Triathlon this morning- lots of hills, all hills! It went well. If they could have made the swim hilly, they would have!!!!! Here’s my secret to running hills: http://teamorphans.com/blog/2013/07/06/five-feet-ahead/
It really worked today on the bike and the run. Ready to rest tomorrow….

Reply

I am so glad Brooke got over her phobia! I need to take a lesson from her and learn to get over my own phobias!

I eat a protein smoothie everyday as well as chocolate.

No running on Saturday for me, but I am cheering you on for your hard 10 miles!

Reply

I need to drive down to Santa Cruz and put that ice cream in my belly immediately! Driving an hour for ice cream is perfectly acceptable right?

I ran my PDR this morning! 14 miles! I slowed it way down after figuring out that I’ve been running my long runs too fast — was nice to slow it down and smell the roses a little.

Reply

I’m running 14 tomorrow. We had a yard sale today and are packing the house up like crazy. Moving in a week!

Reply

I eat peanut butter everyday! This weekend I’m running the Her Tern 1/2 Marathon, tomorrow morning bright and early!! I am super stoked. It was a last minute plan, the best, less time to fret! And the best part of my Saturday is that I’m going to an egg roll party! Were making egg rolls together!! :D And I’ve had that blackberry water, it IS delicious.

Reply

I’ve only been running for two weeks now so I was extremely proud of myself to get off the couch from watching Dvr recordings today because I was sad and hop on the treadmill for a run. I took out all my frustrations and ran a whopping three miles! (I’ve only run two in a row so far) and afterwards I felt soooo much better :) so that’s my Saturday :)

I shall reward myself with cheap tacos and wine tonight :)))

Reply

I definitely eat some form of chocolate every single day. You have me thinking about transitioning to ice cream though…these daily pictures are just too good!

Reply

Enjoying your blog. Running and dining are two of lives wonderful pleasures. I ran my first 4mi in prob 2 years this morning. Running toward my first 1/2 marathon this fall.p

Reply

I eat greek yogurt daily, without fail. How can you not love all that protein in all that deliciousness?

Today I ran the Brewer’s Famous Racing Sausage 5K. I PR’d the 5K AND my mile time! Woot! Woot!

The best part of my day today was that sweet, sweet PR!

Reply

I so wish I lived as close to the beach as you do! My dream would be to own a beach house someday! :) I did a 9 mile run today so tomorrow will be a rest day for me.

I have 3 favorite things about my Saturday: getting garden fresh tomatoes at the farmer’s market and making BLT sandwiches for lunch, a trip to Target, and devouring a Midnight Chocolate cupcake from Gigi’s Cupakes! :)

Something I eat almost everyday in the summer is ice cream…you are not alone! How can you not?? :) It’s summer, after all!!!

Reply

Best part of my Saturday was driving my kids and neighbor around to Jiu Jitsu and Nerf Wars today and watching them have a blast (while getting exercise the whole time). A sweaty kid is a happy kid!

Reply

I go through eating phases. I was on an egg white with cheese and turkey every day kick. Then it was Artic Zero maple vanilla ice cream everyday. Currently I’m eating some sort of crunchy, carb filled, salty snack everyday. I’m hoping this passes quickly!
My long run of 14 miles was today, and getting to stuff my face at Cracker Barrel, post run, was my favorite part of the day.

Reply

Sounds like a perfect, low key day! And that ice cream looks amazing. Where did you go in Santa Cruz? I want to go try it :)

Reply

I am right there with you: I’d much rather have delicious street tacos than some fancy schmancy (and overpriced!) meal at a restaurant!! And that photo of Brooke and the cup is the best! You go, Brooke!

xo

Reply

I love Brooke’s bathing suit!
I don’t think there is a food I eat every day, but I do drink milk every day. It’s odd because I didn’t like milk as a child but I love it now!
The best part of my Saturday was going to see the movie The Heat. It is hilarious and I highly recommend it!

Reply

I usually eat an apple everyday.

My run this weekend was 14 miles. I did 3 with the dog and the rest with a friend. It was crazy humid, but fun running with someone else!

Reply

I have tea every day. I guess it’s like everyone else’s coffee.

I didn’t get a run in at all this weekend =( but I did have whitewater kayaking lessons, which exhausted me enough for the whole weekend. I spent a LOT of time upside-down under water.

Reply

Come to WA. We actually do have blackberries floating around everywhere – and they’re in season now. Best mid run snack is to find a bush and just start eating. They are everywhere.

Reply

my friend i just saw this weekend WORKS for hint water! it’s sooooo good! i’m trying to convince her to give me a free lifetime supply… want me to throw your name in, too? ;-p

Reply

Brooke looks so big drinking from a glass! I eat cereal every morning for breakfast, and I USED to eat ice cream every night.

The best part of my Saturday was seeing my cousins at a family reunion and going for a hike with them!

Reply

Mmm, ice cream and tacos!! So good!
