HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY!!!!

We all have to celebrate National Running Day somehow today…whether it be going on a run or reading about running or talking about running or eating something delicious to fuel your run… just do something to celebrate this thing that we love (and hate sometimes;)

Brooke and I had a graduation to attend last night. One of my really good friend’s daughter finished up high school.

Brooke was in heaven because she got to clap and cheer for hours on end when the graduates names were called.

DSC 3404

Enter in Starbursts. If the pink ones aren’t your favorite flavor I don’t think we can be friends.

Photo 1

Yep, I really like her.

DSC 3408

After the graduation Billy was still working so I became the 5th wheel (and Brooke was the 6th) to go get Pho with friends.

DSC 3414

My bowl of flank steak and veggies was absolutely perfect. Don’t let the chopsticks deceive you, I used a fork.

DSC 3416

For National Running Day I thought it would be fun if we all shared our very favorite memory of running.

One of my favorite running memories: The last .1 mile of my very first marathon. I think I was closing my eyes to try and savor it or something.

DSC 4215

Before I ran my first marathon I honestly was worried about even being able to finish it. I did all of my training on a treadmill and the most I had done during training was 22 miles so I was terrified I wouldn’t be strong enough to finish. Running a marathon had always been a huge goal for me so I went for it (even though I didn’t know anything about running a marathon like the fact that you shouldn’t wear brand new shoes for the race and I had no idea why people were eating during the race ha).

I just remember turning the corner and running down the Gateway mall to the finish line and I was in complete shock that I was going to finish.

I’m 01 also…. and I now take out the double stroller… but it’s definitely not a favorite running moment ;)

My favorite memory of running is running in the woods with my Dad in the summers when I was in high school.

I graduated in 2004! Ours was in the auditorium at school.

LOVE pho, we eat a ton of it here in DC! Pink is the best flavor. When I ran my first marathon I was scared I wouldn’t finish, too!

Reply

one of my favorite running memories was running Boston in 2012 – so hot, but such an amazing experience regardless! the support from everyone was amazing :)

Reply

My favorite running memory is running 13.1 miles because I got lost. I hadn’t run more than 10 miles since a half marathon a year ago and that was the only time I’d hit the 13.1. I felt so good too during the run, It boosted my confidence for the half I had coming up.

Starburst are great, I like pink and red the most.

I graduated college in 2006! I think we were just at the school, I can’t remember though. What happened to my memory?!

2 years ago I decided to ditch running in shoes for running in sandals (Tevas). I ran better and happier than I had in years. My whole outlook on running changed, and I ran more often as a result of it, too.

That was one of my favorite running moments. I still can picture the day, the trail, how I felt, etc.

Reply

I graduated in 1995 so all you youngins just shut it already!

My fave running memory was last month- a 15k to raise money for ALS. It happened to be 48 degrees, POURING down, blinding rain and 25 mph winds. I got up at 6am, made the hour drive to the start line in the torrential downpours, and ran anyways. over a thousand people registered and only about a 100 or so showed up to race. I have never been in more miserable painful running conditions but I did it and I have no regrets. I have never felt stronger or more proud of myself for sticking with it, staying the course, and crossing that finish line.

Right here with ya in ’96. We oldies have to stick together! :)

2010 grad. Still a babyyyyy. It feels like forever ago though. Happy running day! I can’t run for another 5 days but I’ll be running in my head. That’s such a great memory to have. I hope to enjoy my first marathon as much as you!

I graduated high school in 02, uni in 06 and 08.. getting old!

My favorite running moment was finishing my first marathon and getting all you can drink chocolate milk in the food tent.. awesome. Also seeing my hubby at the finish line trying to get a good pic while the race volunteers tried to get him out of the finishing area.. so sweet.

Pink Starburst are definitely the best, followed by red, and then orange. The yellow ones just make me want to cry. And I’m absolutely terrible at using chopsticks… I know they’re supposed to enhance the whole eating experience, but I just end up getting frustrated and resort to forks instead. My dad really loves using chopsticks, and can do the whole pick-up-one-kernel-of-rice thing, but those skills clearly don’t run in the family…

Reply

Happy National Running Day to you, too! It’s like Christmas morning to me! I started a 100 day countdown to today and even planned a mid-week run for this evening with the Cruisers, my running group. I’m heading out now for my first run of the day with my BRF.

Thanks for the Timex tip!

Have a fabulous day! Oh and I’m very good at using chopsticks.

Qualifying for nationals my junior year of college :-) and my favorite flavor of starburst is pink!

Reply

I graduated in 2006 but technically “Passed” in December 2005, early. I skipped the last semester.
The best feeling was after finishing my first half. My goal was 2:20… I did it in 2:19. It was a great feeling. My next goal (Since I’m training really hard for the fall season) is 1:45!
My first full is in October and my goal is under 4.

I think my favorite moments have involved running distances that I didn’t think I’d be able to run. Just pushing myself to beat my previous accomplishments is so rewarding!

I do love the pink, but I think the red ones are my favorite. If they started making a grape flavor I’d be all of that. In fact I can’t imagine why they don’t!

I graduated high school in 2005 at Kleinhan’s Music Hall in Buffalo, NY.

Graduated in 08. Favourite running memory…..when I ran 6.2 miles for the first time. It was on a treadmill, and it felt amazing. Haven’t run further than that since haha.

Reply

Oh man! It’s national running day and I have 2 hours on my bike, whoops!
My favorite running memory is the last 10K of Boston this year, it was really amazing…
Favorite Starburst flavor is orange, but I’ll give you my pink ones so we can still be friends ;-)
I am NO good at chopsticks and have never had Pho but it looks delicious!!
I graduated in 1998 and actually didn’t even attend mine, I graduated early and had moved ON! Highschool wasn’t my jam :-)

Reply

My favourite moment of running is always crossing a finish line. I’m definitely no good with chopsticks but I want to learn. Pink is the bestttttt flavour, and I graduated in ’09!

Reply

I’m horrible with chopsticks, but it’s a skill I’d love to acquire! Have tried many, many times with no luck. One of my favorite running moments was finishing my first marathon with my hubby at my side. He was nursing an injury, so he ran the race with me. It was awesome to cross the finish line together.

Reply

Favorite running moment was probably getting my first age group award and knowing I gave it all I had and earned it.

Pink, always pink!

2003. Graduation was held at an enormous church.

Favorite moment of running: LAST NIGHT!! I ran a 5k and ended up shaving an entire minute off my time from last month and set a new PR!!!

I loved my first half. LOVED it. The whole time I kept thinking “Ok Alyssa, this is going to get harder at some point and you’re not going to be enjoying yourself as much” but it never happened. I had so much fun the whole time.
I love the pink ones of course! They should make a bag just for the pinks!
I use a fork when my friends will let me ;)

I’m not a huge fan of Pho. I’ve given a couple of chances (as I usually give all foods) but it’s just not my favourite. I have sushi all the time though, so I’m pretty good with chopsticks!

I graduated high school in 1999 and we celebrated in the banquet all of Hotel Vancouver. It was really nice!

Reply

My favorite running memory is the half marathon at the beach I did 6 days before my wedding with my maid of honor and two friends. We wore tutus and I also wore a veil.

My favorite starburst flavor is definitely pink.

Graduated high school in 2001 at Cameron Indoor Stadium (Duke University basketball stadium).

Reply

I think my best running memory is yet to come. I have some big races planned for this year!

Pink & red are the best starburst flavors! Why do they bother with any others? Except tropical flavors!

I graduated from high school in 2005. We held our graduation on the football field. In a small southern town, the football field is sacred!

Reply

I would say running through the Angel’s Stadium in Anaheim during the Disneyland Half Marathon with all the crowds cheering.
Pink of course!
Love Pho, but never use chop sticks. I would be a mess with them ;)
2002, ours was held at our local exhibition grounds.

HS Grad 1986… outside on the lawn at the school. We had over 650 in my class.

1st half marathon, seeing my kids cheering then running to the finish line with me..

Orange, red.. favorite flavors.. but they are all so good!

Like eating with chopsticks but I’m awful at it.. never tried Pho..

Reply

My favorite running moment was when I crossed the finish line of my first half marathon 1 year ago. It was something I always said I’d never be able to do (in high school I always said “I’ll play any sport but I can’t stand to only run. I’m just not a runner!”). I was crying when I crossed the finish line because I was so incredibly proud of myself, and I’ll never forget that.

Reply

I guess my best running memory would be my first 10k race, it was when I officially caugh the running and racing bug. I graduated in 96′ wow that sounds so long ago lol. Fav Starburst flavour- sorry I love em’ all, can’t refuse candy!!

Reply

I LOVE Pho. I’ve actually only had it once in my life, but it was a very, very good dinner. Yours looks SO good!

My favorite running memory was my first (and only, so far!) half-marathon. The last 4 miles sucked, but crossing that finish line was a memory that I’ll never forget.

Reply

The pink starburst are the only ones worth eating.

I have always been a slower runner – for years. Lately, I have really been trying to improve my running. I always dreamed about finishing a 5k in less that 30 minutes but never thought I could do it.
On Mother’s Day, I ran a 5k and finished in 29:22. I was something that I worked so hard to achieve and didn’t even know if I could, and I actually cried when I crossed the finish line.

Reply

Brooke is so cute in her outfit!!
I had a similar experience when I was finishing my marathon. I never thought I could do it, and when I saw the finish line I just started to cry and felt the sense of ” I can’t believe I just did that!!” It was an amazing day! I love the pink and orange flavor! I have not tried Pho, but we have a really good place near my work that I am going to try! My younger sisters eats chopsticks with everything. I have rarely seen her use a fork! I graduated in 2008 and it was at our high school on the football field!

Reply

My favorite memory was finishing my first half marathon. It was an incredibly hard run and I crossed the finish found my mom and broke down in tears.

I LOVE pho. I was literally obsessed with it all winter long and went to this place by me at least once or twice a week. I cover the whole thing in sriracha. soo delicious :) i’m class of ’01 from my high school in good ol’ NJ.

My half marathon I gave myself as a secret birthday present. Woke up 5 that morning and drove myself to it, ran it, came home and when Chris said where did you go this morning I said, “I ran a birthday half marathon.” It was awesome, and then we celebrated with b-day cake in large quantities.

This is so fun! Very unique!

I graduated before all of you were born. LOL

My favourite running moment was a half marathon last year. I’d worked hard for months to finally go sub two hours. I came flying down the hill towards the finish line, knowing I’d made it under two hours…and then saw the clock was counting 1.55. I never ever thought I’d run that fast…so I started crying and then couldn’t breathe! My husband and son were at the finish line…it was perfect!

Reply

I LOVE Pink Starbursts too.

My favorite running moment was my most recent 5k. I felt like I was running sooo slow! I thought for sure it was going to my my worst time, turns out I PRed! It shaved a minute off my time and finished 3rd in my age group. (First time in my life that I’ve earned a medal for anything). I guess that’s what happens when I don’t run with a watch or anything. So…hopefully I will win one of those watches!

I also graduated in 2004 from the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon

Reply

I LOVE pho!!! Both of my brother-in-law’s are Korean, so we go out for pho just about every time we visit one of them! :)

And Happy National Running Day to you, too! :) I’ve posted a challenge in honor of this special day, and I’d love it if you joined in!

Reply

My favorite running moment was this February when I finished my first half marathon…at Disney World nonetheless! As soon as I saw Mile Marker 13, I high-tailed it out of there and sprinted to the finish line. I was so happy and proud of myself that I finished…I wanted to cry. Is that lame?

I like the Pink Starbursts, but I don’t really eat them anymore because they have gelatin in them. Skittles, however, do not! I like the green and red skittles.

I graduated in 2008 from high school in the World Music Amphitheater, in Tinley Park, IL

Reply

One of my favorite running moments was completing my first half marathon 7months postpartum. It was a very early race so I went without my kids and husband but crossing that finish line gave me a huge runners high and I thought “this is why I run”. I’ve signed up for two Halfs in the fall (one my family can watch)! Let the training begin :D

Reply

Orange starbursts are the best! Pink aren’t bad though ;) my favorite running memories are the early morning weekend runs with my fiancé. I love chatting and just taking in the sights before whatever we have planned for the day…plus we usually have a pretty epic breakfast after ;)

Reply

I am so happy to be a part of the running community now. I’m not celebrating with a run but it will be in my head all day. I think my favorite running memory is when I finished my last long run before my first half marathon. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to finish under two hours but 12 miles took me 1:45 so it have me the power to keep trying and that I could do it. I will graduate in 2017!!

Reply

I only eat pink Starbursts. Seriously.

Chopsticks are my favorite, we make stir fries so often and ALWAYS us chopsticks. I also recently started making pho at home at the most important part in the broth. So delicious though.

I graduated in 2003 (eek, 10 year reunion is this summer) and I can’t even remember where my ceremony was at, how bad is that?! It took place in downtown Cleveland OH.

Reply

My FAVE moment…hmmm…that’s hard. I think my first marathon is my fave. I ran Chicago and was just SO HAPPY the whole run…seriously…it felt INCREDIBLE to be running in my most favorite city ever…I loved EVERYTHING about it! :D

Fave Starburst…orange and yellow together! I KNOW, I’m a FREAK!

I am ok with chopsticks…we eat sushi often so I get a good amount of practice. I have had Pho and I HEART it!! MmmMM!

I graduated in 1991! Old lady running…true that! :D

Reply

The last two miles of the Disney World marathon last January (my first). All of a sudden there were people out cheering and so many little kids and how can you be in Disney World and not high five every single child and princess who asks for one culminating in the ultimate high five with Minnie Mouse at the finish line?

I also loved that feeling of “I’m really doing it!!! I’m really doing it!!!”

Reply

Omg now I’m DYING for some pho! I graduated high school in 2006, and my favorite starburst color is pink! Although I also like orange a lot… weirdo, I know. And running my first (and only) marathon so far is my favorite memory. I tried to take in the whole thing and I really enjoyed it! It was so fun to run through my city (Chicago)

Reply

My favourite running memory was the start and the end of my first (and only) half marathon. I remember standing at the start line and being overwhelmed with emotion all of a sudden that all of these strangers and I are “in it together” and there was such a sense of comaradery (I have no idea how to spell that ha!). The end was amazing because it was over and I saw my family at the finish line and I was so, so happy to be done.

PS. Pho really is the best thing, its so good and healthy. I am a pro with chopsticks but I always splash pho on myself.

Reply

My husband would kill for that bowl of Pho. Its his absolute favorite thing to eat but we can’t find any places in central Illinois who serve it. We need to move somewhere cooler….like California!

Reply

I agree-pink is definitely the best flavor but I would rather have chocolate! I graduated in ’02. Can’t believe it’s been 11 years!

Reply

I’m TERRIBLE with chopsticks! I’ve tried so many times… Now I just use my fork or my hands (if it’s sushi). :) Never tried Pho before! I don’t even really know what it is?!

And yes, the pink Starbursts are by far the best flavor!

Reply

Graduated High School back in ’99! Yikes I am getting old. :)

Favorite run story is when I finished by first 5miler race last summer. I pushed myself hard and got my time goal. I felt high and sitting on a cloud for the rest of the day. It was the best! Also loved doing a half marathon with my hubby. The Marathon wasn’t the good part – but working to finish together and motivate each other was great!

Reply

I have never tried pho, and I love trying new things so this is now on my list! I don’t use chop sticks. I want to get the most amount of food into my mouth in the least amount of time possible. I do not see how chopsticks would help facilitate this.

You never fueled the whole marathon?? Girl. You be crazy! Though, I tried to take 4 gels for mine (when all I ever took was 2 on my 20 milers) and let’s just say it was hard to get the 3rd down and I barely licked the 4th. Food or anything sweet for that matter did not sound good until 4hrs after I finished. Bleh.

My favorite running moment was the first time I ran 13 miles in 2003. My roommate was training for the St George marathon and we ran the same pace so she convinced me to train with her so she wouldn’t get bored :) I had only ran 8 miles at a time previous to her convincing me. She needed to do 13 that weekend and told me I would be fine. And I was. I was so surprised at how easy it was and how great I felt. (I think mostly because she was so awesome and encouraging) and how much better running with a friend was! I got home and called my parents to tell them. My mom just said ‘why didn’t you run a full marathon?’ Typical. To celebrate NRD, I ran with w friend this morning. Bright and early. My pace was slower than normal as a result, but it was soooo much better. Running friends are the best!

I hate graduations. They are so boring. But if I had that Brooke with me to clap and cheer, I am sure that would make it much better ;) And PINK! But the green melon ones come in second.

Reply

Do you mind if I add the Timex info to my blog post for today?? I’ll be linking your post :) When I finished my first half marathon last year one of the last songs to play was “the dog days are over” and I almost started crying/hyperventilating as I crossed the finish line. I pulled it together, although if there was a picture I’m sure it would look similar to yours. And I have my first full in 17 days!

Do it!!!!

Favorite running moment so far is from my most recent half marathon – just crossing the finish line after running the entire thing with my best friends!!

I love pink starbursts the most too and I love Pho but can’t use chopsticks!

I graduated high school in 2009 and it was held at a local college. It was at night though so I don’t have the best pictures from it!

Two favorite moments of running:
1) I got into running in the summer of 2011 and started running 5Ks that fall. I initially almost always went to them by myself, but then when I started posting my times on Facebook, friends that I didn’t even know were runners started responding and saying they would like to do one with me. As it turned out, five friends decided to run a 5 mile trail run with me called the Snowflake Derby in January of 2012. We all ran at our own paces, but it was so much fun to compete with each other, cheer each other on, wait for the awards together, and then go out to eat. I had never realized how much fun it was to race with other people. Five of the six of us wound up becoming a permanent running group, and now we do a race together almost every month and do our long runs together on the weekends; not everyone can make it every time, but it is great to have a core group to motivate each other, let each other know about races, and whatnot.

2) My first half-marathon was in April of 2013. My goal was to finish in under two hours. Running to the finish line and seeing the clock (I ran it in 1:58:13), I burst into tears. Before I began the training in January, I had never run more than six miles, so every week I was running further than I’d ever run in my life. In retrospect, I took the training a little too fast and am lucky that I didn’t injure myself, but having that goal to work towards really helped me move forward with my running and progress past the shorter distance rances I’d been doing. Crossing the finish line was a really emotional moment.

I’m not good at using chopsticks, but yes, I occasionally enjoy pho. I like the kind with seafood in it.

Tough to choose a favorite Starburst color; probably pink, but I honestly like them all.

I graduated in 1997.

Reply

My favorite memory so far was running my first half marathon in 2010. At the end, I didn’t know whether I would laugh, cry, or puke. I was so tired, I couldn’t even think straight to decide which one would be better. I haven’t had that feeling again.

But tonight might be a greater memory. Meb Keflezighi is leading our run tonight for National Running Day. My back is hurting from last night’s run and I am sick. So, all in all it will be miserable, but I don’t care. I’m doing it anyways. The funds go to One Boston Fund.

I have been using chopsticks since I was 7 and love Pho.

If I don’t like pink Starbursts (which I do happen to love), we can still be friends. Why? Because that means more for you.

I graduated in 1996. So, I’m older than everyone here that has commented. Now, I go back in to my depression for the day.

1990 graduate.
My favorite running memory is an 11-miler I did about a year ago on a hilly trail by a reservoir. Sun was coming up, gorgeous morning, running w/a good friend. I could have gone farther… felt like I was on top of the world! Last great run before bad illness, which has taken the year to recover from. Like to think back to that run, and my goal is to get back to that shape.
Favorite Starburst: RED. Second fav: Pink

I’m so excited to get my run on during national running day! I love your running story, that’s so exciting. I suck at chopsticks, but my entire in law family are pros and I feel so dumb using a fork so i try my hardest and fail everytime lol

Reply

I absolutely love Vietnamese food. Although the soups aren’t my favorite, I would have a hard time turning down a vermicelli or rice dish.

Reply

Ah, a favorite running memory…last year was the first year I started running kind of “fast” (I mean, depending on your perspective…) and I won a 30k race. I ran that same race while training for my first pathetic marathon 2 years earlier, and in 2 years cut off 40 minutes! The course includes part of the levee that I run on a few times a week, and now whenever I run that section that led up to the finish line I remember finishing that race and thinking, “In 2 years I went from finishing near the bottom of this race to winning it!”.

Reply

My favorite running memory is completing my first half marathon with my best friend! It was an amazing feeling!

Graduate 07 at the university here in Victoria, BC, Canada

I’m with you on the pink starbursts! And I definitely struggle with chopsticks but I try to use them every time for a few bites before I switch to a fork

Happy Running Day!!!!! (although, really, that’s every day, right??) ;)

That picture is priceless! Fave running moment was finishing my first 5K. I got so teary eyed you would think it was a marathon lol.

I better get out there and RUN today (even though my muscles are sore from Fitnessista’s summer shape up workout yesterday – ps: I haven’t worked my muscles out in a very long time before doing this workout and probably why I’m in pain).

You made me want candy and it’s not even 11am yet. Maybe I’ll run and get candy today ;) haha

Reply

I think my first marathon was probably my favorite running memory, too. I had a severe case of vertigo and practically collapsed afterwards, but I was on such a high that I kept saying to my husband, “Can you believe I just ran a marathon??? I CAN’T!” It was pretty fantastic.

I’m recovering from an injury, so I’m going to live vicariously through my dog for national running day. I’m going to rollerblade while she runs.

Reply

Actually, I think the fact that I don’t like the pink starbursts would make us better friends, because you would get all my pink starbursts instead of my throwing them in the trash =)

Reply

You throw them away?!? Send them to meeeeee!!!!!!!

Reply

Chopsticks are still a huge challenge for me! I’m ok if the food is kind of grippy enough but if it’s anything slippery, I’m in trouble!

I graduated in 2004 too! best!

Reply

I can USE chopsticks but I almost always break the first pair I try to use… now I just have Ben break them for me. What can I say? I have brute strength!

Reply

Definitely mile 10 of my first half marathon. when i passed the mile marker i yelled out “MILE TEN!!!!” and both arms went up haha. it hit me that i WOULD finish and I would probably be able to say I ran most of it! of course I didn’t really mentally prepare for the last 3.1 miles but hey, i’ll take it.

I ran today!! it’s been pretty hard to get back on the running wagon since the half marathon but i’m going to see how base-building goes and then potentially sign up for the Baltimore Half, the Anapolis Half, or BOTH!! yep i may have caught the bug.

BROOKER IS SO CUTE!!! i can’t wait to hear more about her personality as it comes out more :)

Reply

I graduated from high school in 2008 and we graduated at the football field in the blistering sun. Lol good times.

My favorite running memory was definitely the finish of my first half marathon. It ended with a HUGE hill and I did hills during my training and I sprinted up the entire thing. I was definitely proud of myself!

Definitely pink, red, orange, and then yellow.

One of my favorite running memories (probably because it’s so vivid) is finishing the Disney marathon this past January. It was my second marathon and I was about to PR by 10+ minutes. The last mile or so was run through Epcot. It was fun passing by all the countries even though I don’t remember all of them, and the crowd was insane!! Such an awesome experience!! Have a great national running day!!! :-)

Reply

Class of 2007 here :) My favorite running memory is around mile ten of my second marathon and at the finish line. I BQed, hence the happy finish, but around mile ten, I was hustling with a group of young guys who were serious runners. I looked around and was just in awe of the whole experience, being with people who really pushed themselves and took the sport seriously.

Happy Running Day!! Not sure if I can get a run in today because I have to bring the dog to the vet during my regular running hours, we’ll see though. My favorite running memory is my first race (and first run): it was a 5k that started at midnight. I was waiting tables at the time and another waitress was running it and invited me. We finished work at 11pm and I went home, found some running clothes, and met her at the race. It was the first time I’d ever run that far and was the start of my love of running.

I graduated from graduate school in 2004! Wow – that makes me feel so old! I graduated from high school in 1998 and college in 2002. I never realized I was one of your oldest readers! I feel young though – does that count???

My most memorable run was after my neighbor who is a triathlete and runner fell down her basement stairs and was paralyzed from the waist down. I had just finished the Flying Pig in Cincinatti when I got the call. I vowed that I would be grateful for every run because I could. I would stop complaining about pace and times and place. I ran the Cleveland Rock and Roll half marathon 2 weeks later and finished with tears. I remind myself often to be grateful that I can run.

Today I celebrated Coaching 20 kids ages 8-11 years old, form, and pace and just to love running. It was the highlight of my day, teaching what I love, giving back to the sport what it has given me.

I have to admit yellow starburst might be my fave unless I mix yellow and pink. That is awesome.

Have you tried the “pink star” from the Jamba Juice secret menu? It tastes EXACTLY like a pink starburst. You’re welcome ;)

I love you so much for telling me this.

My favorite running memory has to also be from my first marathon. I turned a corner and saw a friend holding a sign up for me around mile 24. She said, “You’re exactly on pace to fun a 3:40!!” I didn’t even really understand what that meant until I crossed the like at 3:40:30, haha. She was totally right!
And I LOVE pho :D

I’M GRADUATING IN 10 DAYS AHHHHHHH :):):) definitely going to be running today! My fave memory is my 1 and only “official” 5k that I ran with my boyfriend. We finished in 29:50 but had a blast!

The Pho looks so amazing. I wonder if it is gluten free. I always attempt using chop sticks for the first few bite, but then I realize I will be the last one eating so I quickly grab the nearest fork.
I graduated in 2005 at our High Schools stadium. It was a nice day thankfully.
Favorite running memory, to be honest there are toooo many. But I will never forget when I ran in the 3m half marathon in Austin, I went to check the results under my age group and I was not listed. I was kind of sad and unsure of what happened. My mom thought they lost my chip or something happened because my time should have won my age group. It turns out I placed with the elite. I think I almost fainted because I could not believe it. My mom’s reaction was probably the most epic. Having my mom along side of me when it comes to my running memories is the best!

HAPPY NATIONAL RUNNING DAY! I feel so happy today! My team organized a relay for this evening on the Williamsburg Bridge (a bridge that connects Manatthan to Brooklyn) and I’m going to volunteer for it!

My fav running moment was mile 12 of the Brooklyn Half Marathon-I was in pain and really couldn’t wait to finish. Then, out of nowhere, I heard people from my team screaming my name! They gave so much strenght and they made me feel like the happiest person on earth! I’m so lucky to be part of such a wonderful team! However, I already know that this moment will eventually be replaced by another one: crossing the finish line at the NYC Marathon… I’m 100% sure I’m gonna bust in tears right after!

I only like pink Starbursts so yes, we could df be BFF!

Graduated in 2006-we don’t have cerimonies in Italy for graduations. I know, BORING!

Def ORANGE starburst!! Yellow is 2nd.

I celebrate by going on a nice walk outside in running shoes! ;)

Reply

My favorite running moment was when I completed my first half marathon back in April! It felt so good to run across that finish line :)

Favorite Starburst flavor: Yellow + Red

Not to toot my own horn, but I am really good at using chop sticks!!

I graduated from high school in 2005 in Columbia, South Carolina :) Go Vikings!

I made my #IMARUNNER tweet! thanks for the info!

one of my favorite moments of running was finishing my first half marathon last year. i was amazed i was actually still running (and not walking or dragging myself by my fingernails) after all that time, AND that I came in under 2 hours! it was a great moment :)

pink starbursts are most definitely the best!

Reply

Pink Starburst are 100% the best flavor!! I wish they sold a bag of just the pink ones!!

My favorite running memory so far would probably be a half marathon I did in the fall of 2012. I’d been having a REALLY bad few months and was kind of meh about the race but ended up having an AWESOME run (maybe all the stress fueled the fire? haha) and was the second woman overall to finish! Not a huge race or anything but it still felt amazing and I’m pretty sure I was on cloud nine for, like, a week :)

Pink starbursts are the best, with yellow being a close second (for me)! ;-)

I’m also terrible with chopsticks! Like, I don’t even try anymore… I just reach for the fork. Also, never had pho. My hubby, on the other hand, is pretty good with chopsticks and has had pho a couple of times, with coworkers (during group lunch outings). He says its good so I’l take his word for it… and the pics you posted def. help. Yum!

Fave run was running 5 miles with the hubby on a Saturday ,orning! My longest mileage to date, but I have a 10k coming up in the fall which I’m pretty excited about. :-)

my favorite running memory was finishing my first half marathon in october 2010 :) i remember turning the corner and seeing all the cheering spectators, getting the BIGGEST adrenaline rush ever, and crossing the finish line with the biggest smile on my face (then feeling like i wanted to collapse after – haha).

i graduated in 2004 at a big church right down the street from my high school!

Graduated in 2000!! My favorite running moment was running my 1st marathon with my Dad. . . I felt good, it went good, I had my soon-to-be husband on the sidelines cheering. It was awesome.

Graduated in 2000 as well! I think my most memorable running moment was when I finished my first half back in 2006. I had never run more than 8 miles in my life, and finishing 13.1 was very emotional! I just remember thinking, “I can’t believe that I just did that!” I also remember thinking, “I will never run more than 13.1 miles in my life.” It goes to show that you should never say never, because a typical Saturday now includes a 15 mile run, and I am running my first marathon this year! I can’t wait for the flood of emotions that I am going to feel when I cross that finish line!

Pink is my favorite, but I wouldn’t reject any other flavor :)

Graduated in 1996…35 years young, right? ;) Our class of 96 graduated in our basketball gym! My favorite running memory has to be my very first marathon. It was just last fall and I ran it with my sister. We did all of our long runs together during training and just being with her when we crossed the finish line was great! I’ll never forget it! :) Gotta say I’m a chocolate girl all the way, but if Starbursts were my only candy option, I’d go with pink or red. :)

Happy Runner’s Day!!!! My favorite running memory was actually the last mile of my first Tough Mudder (13 miles, 40 obstacles). There were some insanely hard obstacles (mentally and physically) during that last mile–including the 10,000 volt wires at the finale. Such awesome pics and memories from an amazing challenge. Not a candy fan….don’t hate me!

I really look up to you and how fit you are. Running my first marathon this fall, I really enjoyed your picture and hearing what you didn’t know about running. It’s good to be reminded that we were all new once.

Love Vietnamese food! Love Pho. Hubby and I would always have that for lunch on Sundays after church. And yes, chopsticks is the best way to eat it. :)
Have you tried Vietnamese spring rolls?! – YUM! :)

Red Starbursts are the best!
Favorite running memory – finishing my first half with my daughter.
I graduated in 1991 in a class of about 107. Graduation was held in the High School auditorium.
My daughter graduates tomorrow in a class of 1330. They will hold it at our amazing $60 million high school football stadium (only in Texas ;)).

Ahhhhhhhhh how is she graduating?!? I feel like it was her 16th birthday yesterday!!!!!!

YAY for running day!!
Thanks for being such a motivator and an inspiration!
YOU are one of the reasons that I have stuck with running these past 10 months!
Thank you!!!!!!!

Happy Runner’s Day! My favorite running memory is running with my Dad during his first 5K race and crossing the finish line with him. I was so proud of him!

Everytime I use chopsticks I end up flinging part of my meal across the table at someone.

I graduated in an ice arena in ’05. I froze the entire time because I was sitting on ice.

Reply

Oh my, this is embarrassing because I’m Korean (adopted by Irish white folks, though!) but I CANNOT use chopsticks. I’ve tried numerous times but it’s like my hands don’t understand what to do. The shame!!

I’m an ’01 graduate, and yes that also means I’m turning 30 (three weeks from today)! I’m going to miss being a twenty-something young thing!! :)

One of my favorite running memories was finishing my first marathon… my cousin (who has Downs syndrome) came to the finish line to cheer me on. He ran with me the last 100m or so… then took off when he heard people cheering and beat me across the finish! To this day I still tease him about stealing my glory!

I think one of my most favorite memories happened recently – standing on the podium after a 5K for second place! My first time on the podium.

I am obsessed with red starbursts. Pinks are second.

I graduated in 2001 at Burke High School. Omaha Nebraska!

I love your outfit for the graduation! My favorite moment running was finishing my last half marathon, it was the first race I ever actually trained for. Don’t hate me but the yellow & orange Starbursts are my favorite… but that is actually perfect for the pink and red lovers because I always give them away! I graduated in 2002 from a teeny tiny hs in NJ, it was held in a local community college in Lodi, NJ

My favorite running memory was during my last marathon in Pittsburgh. The whole event was exceptional (from running/finishing with friends, amazing crowd support etc.) — but the best was taking a rescue greyhound on a leash from a volunteer and running with it for about a half mile. I’m pretty sure that was my faster half mile of the run.

I probably graduated before most of you were born, so I won’t even say.

Love Pho. Hate Starbursts. Sorry. More of a chocolate gal.

Reply

What a great running memory, and how do you look so happy after that many miles?? haha.

Reply

My favourite memory is finishing my 1st ½ marathon…and actually being willing to sign up for another, once it was all over :)
I just finally learned to use chopsticks last month (only took 33 years…lol)

Reply

My favorite running moment was finishing my second marathon. I ran my first marathon on a small stress fracture in my foot and I was very disappointed with my time. My second favorite running memory is finishing my firs 12 mile training run and running it with my best friend.

There is only one answer to the starburst question: pink.

I graduated from high school in 2002. Our graduation was at the football stadium. Home of the Bulldogs!

Favorite running memory: My BQ marathon in March! My dad is a killer runner, and he ran the entire race next to me to pace me, coach me, let me draft off him, carry my water, and feed me. He is awesome!

Pink, for sure.

No. Also for sure.

I will be running the NYC marathon in November and it is my first! I received a spot after three years of losing the lottery. I am excited and nervous. While organizing my training, I actually have been wondering how you incorporate fuel (read as candy) into marathon training. I thought you would be the perfect person to ask and after your comment in this post, it seems like an appropriate time. Any tips??

Favorite running memory was seeing my grandparents at the finish line of my first half marathon (they surprised me and came), then seeing my husband lift my 3-year-old over the railing and running across the finish line with her! Such an emotional, triumphant moment!
Pink Starbursts are #1 for sure.
Pho is awesome, yes I use chopsticks bc my dad used to fly to Japan and he taught us how to use em as kids.
Graduated HS in 2002, on the football field in Orcutt, CA.

When I ran 5.61 miles and started to consider myself a runner

I don’t really like starbursts or chopsticks; I’ve never tried Pho

I will graduate in 2017

GREAT FINAL PHOTO! Isn’t that the best feeling? That last 0.1 or 0.2 of a marathon, where the crowds are thick with people and excitement and you’re riding the joy from the journey of not just the last 26 miles, but the last several months of training reaching completion! LOVE THAT FEELING!!

I love the pink and yellow!

I’m “okay” with chopsticks. I don’t know how people eat rice or salad with them, though. If I ate with them more, I’d definitely learn how to SLOW DOWN while eating!

I graduated in 1998 and ours was on the football field of our high school.

Favorite running memory was running my first half marathon! Never thought I could do it, it was such an emotional experience. Favorite starburst is definitely red followed closely by pink… sorrry… :P And I just graduated high school this year, 2013!! I’m a youngin’! :D

Reply

Fave Starburst flavor is cherry. Or orange.
I don’t like the pink ones, but I think that would make us great friends – you can have all the pink ones!!! :)

My favorite running moment was crossing the finish line at my first half marathon! I was SO scared I was just going to lay down and die on the course. Until then, I had never run a race without my running partner, but she’s pregnant and couldn’t do it with me. I had never felt more proud in my life, I was even more proud of myself than when I graduated college!

I graduated from high school in 2006 on our high school football field, way up here in Northern California.

I graduated in 1987. Exactly one million years ago. My favorite Starburst flavor is pink followed closely by red. I don’t like the yellow at all. I give them to my teaching partner. My favorite running moment was last Dec. when I ran the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Half. I’ve never traveled for a race before and it was so much fun. I loved running down the strip. There was so much to see along the way that the time just flew by.

Class of 06!
Not sure I have a favorite running memory just yet….but it’s waiting for me.
I’m not really a fan of starburstsDONTHATEME. but I can tolerate the orange flavor…
Never tried pho! But it sounds phun.

Definitely the pink ones and the orange! :) Or maybe lemon too…. :) I graduated in 1993…my 20 year is coming up next month!

My favorite running memory was overall my first marathon- Chicago 2012, but more specifically running through Chinatown and nearing the finish- loved it!!!

Graduated 1990. College 1995. Law school 2010

My hubby graduated in 1983 though!

Best running memory – my first night time trail race. Never had a more
powerful feeling than finishing a 10k in the woods in the dark. It was 94 degrees and
I had just finished law school as an older student with four kids, recently divorced and
afraid I couldn’t do it. I did it :-)

LOVE Pho.

Living in Singapore has made me a chopstick champ. In fact, I realized just today that I now reach for chopsticks for so many small tasks… Like grabbing a piece of pasta to check if it’s done, or turning things cooking in a pan, or a variety of other small tasks!

Reply

Pink starbursts are my absolute favorite, so I think we can now be best friends!

My fave running moment was the Shamrock run 8k this year. I was looking forward to it because I had only done 5ks up to that point, so it would be my longest race. I came down with a cold and a sore throat the week before the race and I tried everything I could to speed up the get-well process, but on the morning of the race, my throat still hurt and I couldn’t breathe out of my nose.
Once I started running, though, everything magically cleared up..I could breathe and my throat didn’t bother me. I ended up feeling really good during the race and actually ran it faster than I thought I would. It was awesome!

Red Starbursts are my fave, but pink is a really really close second. I also stink at using chopsticks. I look like a 5-year old; it’s bad.

Think about it though — if you are friends with all the non-pink lovers, more pink for you! ;) (advice from a pink lover).
