How can you tell if someone ran a marathon and THE dessert stomach.

Brooke and I went on a long walk today to our favorite lake.

IMG 8600 1

The walk was extra long because somebody with a name that starts with a B and ends with a rooke decided to throw her shoe off as we were walking.  I didn’t notice for a while and once I did I refused to go home without it.  We are very lucky that no one stole the shoe.

Remember how I told you my sister-in-law was going to run her longest race distance ever?  She ROCKED her 10 mile race this last Saturday and signed up for a 1/2 marathon for the end of this month.  Studies show that racing is addicting.

Her husband (my brother) is not so much into the whole running thing (anymore, he used to be an incredible cross-country and track runner) as you can tell by his work bag (he is a pilot):

I think he is making fun of my 26.2 sticker.

Since we are on the topic of funny things… here are three more things making me smile today:

1.  We can’t help ourselves… we have to talk about our running!

How can you tell if someone ran a marathon

2.  Finally my theory about my separate dessert stomach is now proven to be true.  I think mine is a little bigger than the one below.

3. This video.  It is called How Animals Eat Their Food.  The kangaroo is my favorite.  And the whale.  And the rhinoceros.

For lunch I was lazy and just put chicken and dressing on top of this veggie mix.

And my after lunch snack of Raisin Bran Clusters… the best kind ever.

I don’t think anyone is tired of my talking about running since they do ask me about it more then I bring it up in convos. Last thing ate out of a bowl was chocolate pudding aka BSN Dessert protein powder mixed with a little water so it was like pudding.

I’m sure my husband gets tired of hearing about running. Part of the reason I started blogging was so I could ramble on about it as much as I wanted. That way people who are interested can read about it and they don’t have to if they don’t want to. Sometimes when talking to my husband I get the I’m-not-listening-uh-huhs

Reply

Oh my gosh!! That video!!! Bahahahah!

So true about how marathoners talk about them running marathons. So so true! And it’s great we can laugh about it :)

Reply

If my family and friends get sick of it they don’t say anything, but that could be more because I wouldn’t stop even if they did.

Reply

That always happens on runs! I find stuff I didn’t even know we lost haha. And I totally agree with dessert stomach. Mines even bigger than my meal stomach.

Reply

I think my husband gets tired of listening to me. But I don’t know..he told me he has interest in starting to run with me- so maybe all the talk is working! He did run with me last week :-)

I saw How Animals Eat at work today. T-rex or the whale is my fav!

Reply

My co-workers are so sick of hearing me talk about my latest run. But, they’re good sports about it! I ate oatmeal this morning.

Reply

Haha, love that running picture. I told every person in sight that I just ran a marathon for a good few weeks after my first marathon. My dessert stomach also doubled in size after the marathon!

Reply

I think my fiance definitely gets a little tired of me talking about running so much but he doesn’t show it – I can just tell haha! I have a HUGE sweet tooth! Warm cookies are my fav! Last thing I ate out of a bowl the Panera chicken noodle soup- it wasn’t my fav but it did the trick!

Reply

I think people are less sick of hearing about my running now that I’m a hermit and work from home. Before that, though, yes. Thank goodness my husband is a runner, too, and will talk about it with me.

Last thing I ate from a bowl was also cereal.

Reply

Shut the front door, I have tears in my eyes from that video!!! My whole family runs so I assume they don’t care that all I want to talk about is running. Unfortunately I do not have a dessert stomach but eat it anyway and then feel so sick afterwards. Last thing I ate from a bowl was popcorn.

Reply

Lol I’m glad you found her little shoe, it is so cute and small!!

I told everyone on earth that I ran my first half marathon, its so challenging I feel like people should appreciate it! haha

Reply

The last thing I ate from a bowl was a bit of Graeter’s ice cream that we got on sale. Yum!

As far as a dessert stomach is concerned, I think mine would be several small ones all attached. Each would be for a specific dessert as I tend nibble on them, and never eat an entire dessert.

Reply

Best ice cream EVER!!!!

Reply

I agree, and I normally prefer frozen yogurt!

They were on sale for about $2.15 a pint, so we picked up way more than I should admit! We even went to 2 stores because 1 was slightly cheaper than the other.

Reply

Some of my friends get so sick of hearing me talk about running! Lucky for me, I’ve been able to convince a lot of them to run races with me – Saturday we did a 10K and we had a group of 10 people! My coworkers are a different story, I really have to limit the running talk around them. :(

Reply

I’m getting worried that people will get annoyed with me haha oh well! Their loss for not being able to contribute to the conversation.
I am convinced I have a dessert stomach. It all makes sense now.

Reply

That video is hilarious! My son (almost 2) used to want to wear his sunglasses for 60 seconds and then toss them out of the stroller! You never realize it when it happens. It’s always “hey wait a second – what’s missing and when did we lose it??”

If it’s frozen yogurt or ice cream I always have room! As for the last thing I ate out of a bowl it would have been lunch: steel cut oats, raspberries, blueberries, bananas, chopped walnuts and honey. Best lunch, ever!

Reply

The rhino! Rofl oh my dear God I’m dying here. I wonder how many plain lettuce leaves the poor guy on the left had to go through while they were filming that.

Finally! Someone who understands the concept of a dessert stomach! I definitely have one. In fact, I believe it’s actually bigger than my regular stomach. And my last bowled food was cereal… with yogurt, a banana, and almond butter.

Reply

That is HILARIOUS. I use your blog (and my pretend world in which we’re BFFs) as an outlet to prevent myself from talking about running nonstop. I think it’s really boring to people who aren’t into running.

Reply

i soooo appreciate that you found a graphic depicting the dessert stomach! i have preached this far and wide and will stand by the fact that it does indeed exist! last thing from a bowl…popcorn!

Reply

It’s nice that my husband is also a runner, so he doesn’t get too annoyed when I ramble on about running. Other, more sedentary members of our family are not as forgiving!

Love the graphic about the dessert stomach. I’ve always heard that even if you’re full, you can always tolerate something that appeals to different taste buds. So, if you’ve gorged yourself on something salty, there’s still room for something sweet. Thanks for the scientific proof to back this up!

I had leftover white bean & chicken chili with shredded cheese and avocado & cilantro cream over tortilla chips for lunch today. Yum! Hopefully I’ll finish the evening with a nice, big bowl of ice cream!

P.S. my 11-month old likes to throw her shoes out of the stroller on walks too.

Reply

beautiful brooke’s got her mama’s smile =)

Reply

I love the chop veggies from Trader Joes. I ate leftovers from a bowl, in the middle. Of the night. Not only do I have a dessert stomach, it’s demanding something after almost every meal. I’m sure it’s genetic.

Reply

one of the biggest reasons I started blogging was so I could write about running as much as I wanted!! I am sure people around me get so tired of hearing me talk about it :)

the last thing I ate from a bowl was yogurt + strawberries. yum!

and of course there is a separate dessert stomach – something I’ve known for years :)

Reply

I definitely have a dessert stomach – most times I can find a little extra room for something sweet.

The last thing I ate from a bowl was cereal!

Reply

I absolutely have a dessert stomach! I am always up for dessert and always have room…The waiters at Cheesecake Factory look at me and cannot understand how I can finish the cakes. But I do! With room for more lol

Reply

I definitely have a dessert stomach (it’s really a bottomless pit)! The last thing I had from a bowl/cup was Ben and Jerry’s (Yay for free scoop day)!

Reply

I deffffinitely have a dessert stomach. Lunch dessert is my favourite meal of the day. Also, that video was awesome. The kangaroo was my fave!

xo

Reply

Oh my word!!!! I always tell people I have a dessert stomach when I go for dessert after having had at least 5 servings of food. It never fails, I always have room for dessert.

Reply

Luckily my husband is a runner so he talks about runner just as much, if not more than me! I try to only talk about running with people who also run so I don’t bore the others. The last thing I had from a bowl was mashed potatoes & chicken marsala (I didn’t have any clean plates). Sooo tasty!

Reply

I think I have five dessert stomachs!
I just had two bowls of fruity cheerios! I bought them for the kids, thinking I wouldn’t like them, but now I’m addicted!

Reply

Love this! When I was little I used to tell my parents that I had a separate stomach for dessert! :)

Reply

That video was hilarious and my kids thought so too! Thanks for sharing!

Reply

Ahhh Raisin Bran is too good. I love the double scoop kind. I think the ideal cereal to raisin ratio is 1:1!

Reply

Just had a yogurt bowl a few minutes ago :)

Reply

I knew it! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!!!! I’ve been telling people for years that I had an extra stomach for dessert. I don’t care how stuffed I am there is ALWAYS room for dessert. I have never understood someone saying they are too full for dessert-what????? Now I have PROOF! Thank you!! :) I love that chopped veggie mix from TJ’s. Makes making a salad a piece of cake! Speaking of cake… just kidding. The last thing I had from a bowl was dinner last night. Chicken, quinoa, and roasted veggies (all leftovers) so I just scooped it all in a bowl heated it up and scarfed it down!

Reply

I try not to talk about running in front of family, they’ve never said they’re tired of it- but they have to be!! I run with lots of local groups to talk about running nonstop.

Definite dessert stomach and I can always make room. Did you know there are people who eat dinner and then nothing else until the next morning? Absurd.

Everything I’ve eaten today has been from a bowl- oatmeal, a spinach and pear salad, yogurt, and a mango.

Reply

My co-workers definitely get sick of hearing about my races! I’m blaming them though because they are always asking me where I am off to after work (spin, crossfit, etc.).

I absolutely have a dessert stomach :)

I had a delicious salad in a bowl for lunch today! Current fav salad topping: broccoli slaw

Reply

Definitely talk alot about running… hence why my blog is called “Miranda Runs”. Haha!

Reply

I seem to only have a dessert stomach at home or at family suppers. I never seem to when we go out for supper. Maybe I just like homemade desserts better with the people I love? I dunno! ha
I ate my scrambled eggs in a bowl this morning, I always eat scrambled eggs in a bowl.

Reply

I definitely have a separate stomach for dessert. Aka last night I had chocolate chip cookies from my mom and then Froyo later. It doesn’t count as my meals. Also if I ever run a marathon you better believe I’m going to tell the world about it.

Reply

I’m sure people are tired of me talking about running.. but thats what run buddies are for, right? :)

Reply

I absolutely, 100% believe in a dessert stomach. I actually refer to it as a dessert tank. I ALWAYS have room for dessert :-)

That video is HILARIOUS! Thanks for the laugh!

Reply

the whale is funny…

Reply

Everyone’s laughing at the video but I’m over here dying at the Hokey Pokey Anonymous sticker on that bag.

Reply

I definitely have a dessert stomach.

The last thing I ate from a bowl was some mushroom stroganoff with pasta, but I’m about to eat some Cheerios.

I pretty sure I also have a cereal stomach.

Reply

I definitely have a stomach just for desserts. Or the “fundus”… the little arch part at the very top of the stomach… I use that for desserts.
And my friends and family are pretty nice about the whole talking-about-running-all-the-time thing. They’ll nod and smile and ignore me ;)

Reply

Holy cow do I ever have a dessert stomach. :) I wish I didn’t sometimes. Hugs!

Reply

Hey once i run my first 1/2 i am for sure getting a 13.1 sticker and slapping that thing on the back window of my car!

Reply

I think it may be true sometimes we might talk a little too much about running, however I think that the majority of people who say negative comments back to you about running are really just jealous they haven’t committed to such a cool thing as we have! Just saying…..

Reply

I 100% have a dessert stomach. I could be so incredibly full, but I could still want dessert. It’s a problem. ;)

Reply

Omg that video is amazing!!!!

Reply

Yeah the dessert stomach must exist. . . .

I don’t talk about my running unless someone asks about. Sure I mention I am running a race, but I don’t want to bug them with my excitement or stories. Perhaps I should though. I need all the support I can get when training for my marathon.

Reply

I can’t stop laughing at the video! It’s way to good! I’m sharing this =)
Oh andddd I definitely have a dessert stomach! My downfall! Really, I just like food in general!

Reply

My family and non running friends get sick of my running talk, that’s why it is so great to blog and connect with other addicted runners!

Reply

I was just telling my husband that I will try to stop talking about it so much…but I’m lucky, he’ll just let me talk his ear off about it forever! I have found that I’m growing a little distant from my non-running friends though?!?! Not sure what to do about it, but I feel like it’s b/c I want to talk about running and I know they probably don’t!

Reply

I absolutely have a dessert stomach that never fills up. And my family is almost always tired if my running talk haha

Reply

Nah, they don’t get sick of hearing about running! Or at least that’s what I tell myself… Actually, I’m excited because now that I’m teaching with a new staff I’ve been able to connect with about 4 other teachers over running and training stories! I spent my whole lunch hour today comparing injury stories, lol!

Last thing I ate from a bowl: steel cuts oats with warm strawberries, almond milk, and honey.

Reply

There is always room for dessert. Always. I think I need some running friends… my mom is sick of me. Cereal was eaten a few hours ago. Every. Day.

Reply

I always say that about dessert stomachs, too! I’m like, “There is a little place that is locked from healthy food and is reserved for desserts, and it’s NEVER too full!”

I would believe that studies show racing is addicting…even moreso than running itself is!

Reply

Hahahaha oh my gosh, everything about this post was my favorite!

Number 1 is EXACTLY why it is critical for runners to have runner friends. I will never understand how non-runners don’t find talking about running fascinating but apparently they don’t :)

Reply

People always ask me questions about my running…so I’m assuming they’re interested. Once they open that door though, there’s no going back! I can always find room for dessert immediately after I eat. I also have room for second or third dessert as well. Last food I ate from a bowl was my oatmeal this morning. I eat oatmeal like it’s my job!

P.S. The whale was my favorite in that video. I don’t know how his friend didn’t just pee his pants while the other guy was acting a fool. I would have.

Reply

I try so hard not to be an annoying marathon runner by talking about it all the time! I ran one, so I try not to go on and on about it, even though it was awesome. So I could. And that video is ridiculous. At first I thought it would dumb, but I was definitely laughing out loud.

Reply

I cracked up over the 0.0 bumper sticker!! I can totally see my husband putting something like that on his car.

I have never run a marathon or even a half but I sure will let you know all about my 5k’s…lol!!

Reply

I have a terrible habit of talking too much running!!!! Give me a few cocktails and it is 100x worse. Oh well…….deal with it. ;)

Reply

I don’t talk about running that often. Luckily I work full time at a gym so most ppl want to talk fitness anyway! My husband wants that sticker!!

Reply

I think my husband definitely gets sick of me talking about running. Some people just don’t get it! I try and cut the running talk down to a minimum at work because I don’t want to get on their nerves! But I’m the boss so I guess I could if I wanted to ;)

Reply

OMG. That video is HILARIOUS! I just watched it with my hubby and daughter and we were all laughing so hard!

OK, let’s get serious:

1. Do your friends/family/co-workers ever get sick of hearing about your running?
Probably. It’s one of the primary reasons I started a blog. So I have a place to talk about running…even if no one is listening (yet). :) My blog is all of 5 days old. LOL

2. Do you have a dessert stomach too? Can you always find space for dessert no matter how full you already are?
Doesn’t everyone? Well, I should clarify. I have a dessert stomach for worthwhile desserts: cupcakes, cake, ice cream, pie. If it’s something like mousse or tiramisu, then I’m *really* full.

3. Last thing you ate from a bowl?
I’m stumped. I don’t eat cereal… I guess it’d have to be a salad of some kind.

P.S. Brooke’s little white shoe is SOOOO stinkin’ cute!! My son wears a size 9 now, so a 1 just looks teeny-tiny!

Reply

I’m sure my family and friends get sick of hearing me talk about how obsessed with running I am, but no one has said so yet, so I’m just gonna keep on talking! :)

I definitely have a dessert stomach. Never EVER say no to dessert!

Reply

I’m pretty sure my friends get sick of hearing about me talk about running, which is why I started my blog. :) Luckily, I’m working at a running store, so I don’t think my coworkers get too sick of it since talking about running is our job. Livin’ the dream. ;)

Reply

-There’s ALWAYS room for dessert. I must have a dessert stomach too :)
-I usually eat cereal out of a mug for some reason…I think it just tastes better that way?

Reply

I absolutely have a dessert stomach!
I think Brooke looks a lot like Billy’s mom in that first pic! :)

Reply

Watched the video – I think the lizard one was SO hilarious and pretty spot on! I immediately emailed it to my husband, so thanks for that! :)

My dessert stomach seems to only activate for chocolate. Or baked goods. Or cereal. Or something with peanut butter. You know, its picky ;)

Reply

As a regular reader, I have to comment…in that first picture, I literally did a double-take, Brooke looks JUST like Billy! I usually see you too, but for some reason, in that picture it just screams Billy.

Reply

p.s. the picture is very cute BTW :)

Reply

I always have desert stomach! YUM! :)

Reply

First your salad looks so bomb! Second, your brothers sticker is so funny haha third, um can we please get together when you come to UT?

Reply

I hope my family doesn’t get tired of hearing me talk about running. I don’t think they have, but I think I have kind of gotten my family into running. My dad has really grown to like it in the past year!

Last thing I ate from a bowl: cereal!

Reply

Have you seen the sticker that says “27.4” and underneath, in small letters reads, “I got lost.”
HAHA!
Brooke’s sandal was cute ~ totally worth going back to get it!

Reply

I married my college running buddy. We talk running a LOT. It is awesome to have someone to bounce training ideas, support, and excitement off of. That also means we don’t bombard our families with running stories. :) My mom just started running as a way to help manage her diabetes without medicine, so we share stories a lot now too. Hearing about her first runner’s high was so much fun. I feel like she finally gets it! :)

Reply

I just had Raisin Bran Crunch last night…. from a coffee mug. I prefer my cereal to be eaten out of a mug.

Reply

I thought all people had a separate stomach for desert!

Reply

I love the dessert stomach photo…so true!!!i definitely have that going on.

nah my friends dont really get sick of it…not that i know of anyway! haha i dont really talk about it unless someone brings it up.

last thing i ate from a bowl…slow cooker apple steel cut oats with banana and pb :)

Reply

How do you get your grilled chicken so crispy? I tried grilling chicken breasts on my Foreman grill, but couldn’t get it crispy. I’m wondering if it’s the nature of the grill? The outside was only slightly brown, but the meat was dry and overcooked.
I can always eat dessert, and no matter what I always finish it!

Reply

Yep my husband is forever rolling his eyes at me… I think it’s secretly because he is jealous because he is now unable to run after knee surgery – no more high impact!

My saying is there is ALWAYS room for dessert. No question. Ever.

The last thing from a bowl – yep, cereal!

PS My son left his shoe at the lion enclosure (not actually in it…) once at the zoo – we were so lucky someone had placed it on a rock waiting for us!

Reply

i rarely talk about running to non-running friends. my only family members who know I do half marathons are husband and kids and sister. the rest think i just didn’t show up for church! lol

Reply

That video was so funny!! The flamingo was so funny with the outfit! I don’t really talk about my running a lot, at least I don’t think so! My husband and I both run so we talk about running a lot, but when we are around our family and friends we will only talk about it if it is brought up by them. Last thing I ate from a bowl was some scramble eggs mashed with avocado!

Reply

The video — I laughed so hard I cried. It definitely made my stress level decrease, if even for a little bit. (Finals on Monday…)

Reply

I feel your pain – I spent 45 minutes wandering around Target one afternoon looking for a shoe that my son tossed out of the cart without me knowing!

Glad to hear that I’m not the only one with a dessert stomach too! :)

Reply

OMG that little shoe of Brooke’s is so adorable!! I would definitely go back and get it too.

I think some people *cough*husband*cough* may get bored of hearing about my running, so I try to save most of it for the weekends when I’m with my running group and can talk about shoes and pronating and gels and compression all I want!

Last thing from a bowl was Smart Start (one of the to-go ones you buy at work when you forget to bring breakfast with you)… Mmm …cereal…

Reply

Oh my gosh. That video is amazing. I laughed so hard. The alligator and Rhino are my favorite!

Reply

I try to restrain myself from talking too much about running with my non-runner friends. I do talk a lot about running with my brother, who got me into running in the first place.
Last thing I ate from a bowl was… fruit salad topped with greek yogurt.

Reply

Hahaha this is so funny because yes, my friends will say things about running but I’m sorry I just can’t help myself! I love it so much! People like to make fun of it, but I think they are just jealous :) In fact, I’m running my first 1/2 tomorrow so I’m really really hoping I can put that 13.1 sticker on my car tomorrow afternoon :)

I 100% have dessert stomach…I mean, it’s pretty bad actually, I’m obsessed! I had two bowls (cups) of ice cream yesterday so I’ll count that as the last thing I had in a bowl!!

Reply

I thought I saw you on the trail yesterday! I love running on that trail!!

Reply

Oh man the lizard and the whale, that is too funny!

Reply

My husband showed me that video last night! I almost died laughing! What a ridiculous video.

I do have a large dessert stomach. It’s a problem.

I try to conserve my running chat when I’m with friends and family who aren’t into it. I’ll give them updates and answer questions if they ask, but I try to pay attention to when their interest wanes and then I’ll move on to something else.

Reply

i just made a new friend who happens to be a professional marathon runner from kenya! he lives up the street from me and i am so excited because we can talk about running all day long now!!!

there is ALWAYS room for dessert!

and i just ate a bowl of trail mix and before that apple crisp with cinnamon ice cream. yep, always room for dessert:)

I’m the T-Rex haha :)
