How have I gone 27 years without these two things?

Best 6.5 hour drive of my life for 3 reasons:

1.  Billy is proud of me because I didn’t make him stop a million times along the way to use the restroom.

2.  Brooke snuggled my arm when she fell asleep and if I tried to move it she got upset.

3.  We had the best road trip foods.  I was skeptical when Billy bought the shortbread Girl Scout cookies but was pleasantly surprised by how amazing they are.  Don’t get me wrong, they are no thin mints or samoas but they are still really good.

Brooke was finally reunited with one of her many best friends.

We didn’t get to Billy’s parents’ house until about 8 and so we were all starving by the time we got there.  We jumped in the car and went to their favorite Chinese restaurant.  Started with the Egg Drop Soup (which is my favorite).

And then we ordered one of everything on the menu.  Orange Chicken will always and forever be the best item and the garlic shrimp was a close second.

So yesterday was a pretty awesome day because I tried TWO new cookies that I have never had before.  The shortbread ones and these almond cookies…. how have I gone 27 years without these in my life?

I will be doing 4 miles (the longest I have gone in more than FIVE weeks) this morning before all of the wedding festivities begin.  Weddings are the best and this will be Brooke’s first wedding ever.

Who has a dog?  (I am very jealous of you)

What is your personal distance record for THIS year?

My personal distance record for the year is 20 miles. Today I have 22 miles on the schedule so by the end of the day I will have a new record. I like those Girl Scout cookies. Who am I kidding? I like all Girl Scout cookies.

Reply

Great job Jessica!

Weddings are so much fun! I stick with the Girl Scout cookies I know I love (thin mints, samoas and tagalongs) because when I tried the dulce de leche they are awful! I’m about to head out for a 4 mile run too. Enjoy!!

Reply

The farthest I have run this year is 13.1 miles, but I’ll be ramping up for fall marathon season in a bit. I like how you included the one apple in with the road trip food. lol. It’s like all junky except for that one thing. :) Typical hungryrunnergirl! What do you think will happen when Brooke gets older in terms of eating? Are you going to limit the candy that comes in the house? I can imagine you stashing all the candy under your bed and eating it in secret so that Brooke can’t say, “But mommmmmmm, why do you get to eat candy?!” Woah. It’s kind of weird imagining Brooke being old enough to talk!

Reply

This year (since I just started running again this January after a hiatus since college) was 2 miles. A crazy crazy crazy accomplishment since I could only run for 1 minute on the first day. It’s very weird after taking a break and then having a baby. I think I step different.

And we WISH we had a dog. Our two-family doesn’t allow dogs. But when we buy a house we are getting a golden retriever and naming her Pippa!

Reply

Sadly my personal distance record is 5 miles this year, and my IT band injury is back so I can’t run a 10K trail race I was supposed to run this morning… BUT I kind of have a dog! My brother and sister-in-law live 5 blocks away and they have a golden retriever, MOLLY!!! She’s fantastic. It’s like having a dog without having the responsibility of having a dog. Best of both worlds.

Reply

Love the pictures! And FYI those buffalo wheat thins were amazing! My longest distance will hopefully be 26.2 on Monday! Wahoo!! Hope your run goes well this morning and enjoy the wedding!

Reply

Good luck for Monday!!!

Reply

Thank you so much!! Should be a fun race!!!

Reply

AWEEE. That sounds lovely. I am the worst with car rides…I have to stop literally every couple of hours ha ha. I’m glad someone else is normally at my level.

My longest run was actually last week. I ran 20…I’m still not training for a marathon just halves. All in due time I suppose. Have a great time at the wedding! :-)

Reply

Wee! Weddings! So much fun!
I have a dog!! He might be the cutest one ever too!
My PDR for this year so far is the 30km race I ran a few weeks ago :)
Have a great weekend, Janae!

Reply

I have a dog! Today I am doing 5 miles I’m coming back from two stress fractures too and idk how I used to do 10+ 5 is so intimidating this morning but I can’t wait to get out there and do it!

Weddings really are the best…have fun!!

Reply

We rescued a pointer last July when we moved to Maine- she’s a great running buddy!

Reply

Brooke is too cute! She definitely runs the house ;-) I have a dog – Elmo – he’s pretty much my life. I thought they only gave out fortune cookies at chinese restaurants! I never saw that kind of cookie before at a place.

Reply

Me and my broken leg have only gone 13 miles this year! And to think that last year by this time I was on marathon #4 for the year. Ahem, then I got injured. Sounds like I need to use that as a lesson!

Reply

No dog for us although Noah LOVES THEM!!! Personal distance record for this year is the marathon back in January :-) have a blast at the wedding!!!

Reply

All of that food looks delicious!
Have a great time at the wedding — hope Brooke loves it!

Reply

20 miles… then my IT band started to act up so I’m sitting out of a marathon. :(

I want a dog! HELP me convince my husband!!!

Reply

12 Miles so far this year :)

I so so so want a yorkie or morkie, we are looking for pet friendly apartments to make this dream a reality!!!!

Have so much fun at the wedding :)

Reply

I love Yorkies!! We are going to look at some today, my husband finally agreed! I hope your dream comes true!

Reply

Have fun at the wedding today! Can’t wait to see Brooke in her dress :) I have a dog, but I had to leave her at home with my parents when I moved out. She’s some kind of husky/shepherd/collie mix that we picked up at the shelter when she was just a tiny little thing, and she’ll be 10 this year but still acts like a puppy.

Reply

We have a yellow lab named Gracie and my personal distance for this year is 8 miles.

Reply

That picture of Brooke and your arm is precious! Isn’t being a mommy the best? Those shortbread cookies are the only GS cookie my son eats (unless he finds my stash of hidden thin mints!). I love orange chicken AND almond cookies! Have a good weekend!

Reply

Woah. Buffalo Wheat Thins?! How have I gone 23 years without those?! I am also building up my distance to train for my first half marathon in October, and I’m currently at 6.5 mi. Long way to go, but loving the journey!

Reply

The Buffalo Wheat Thins are new I believe. I remember the first time hearing about them was this past superbowl commercials! I can’t wait to try them!

Reply

Wow this calendar year is probably 0. I was way too pregnant and not feeling well.

Had to tell you while you are south you need to hit up Susie Cakes in Newport, you will thank me!!

Reply

My personal distance record this year (and actually EVER) was a 32 mile trail race I did in February. Of course, I promptly hurt myself after that. I was finally allowed to run my first mile this past week. It was the first mile I’d run in 7 weeks! I’m signed up for, and have been cleared by my doctor to run, a 50 miler in June so hopefully that’ll be my new record. :)

Reply

I have a dog who is currently hogging the whole couch. Personal distance record for the year is 15 miles. Enjoy the wedding!

Reply

Awww I love that picture of Brooke with the dog. She is clearly an animal lover!

Reply

You should be a food photographer! You have mad skills, you make me want to eat everything you take a picture of! Brooke looks adorable snuggling your hand. Have lots of fun with family and friends at the wedding.

Reply

13,1 is my farthest. But seriously? I have nightmares about the marathon I’ll be running in October. That’s why I’m up so early…

Reply

My personal record for this year is 14 miles. I can’t wait to do my first 20 miler in a couple months. What a feeling that has to be.
Almond cookies are amazing aren’t they? They are a must EVERY time I go out for Chinese. All of our places around where I live give them out free with your meal. :)

Reply

I have the shortbread cookies in my cabinet now.
My first time trying any type of GS cookies!
I want to try those spicy buffalo wheat thins!
I don’t have a dog.
Not ready for the responsibility lol.
My farthest this year and longest ever was 10 miles!

Reply

I love dogs! especially my german shorthaired pointer. she’s a doll and the BEST running partner ever! She’s never missed a run and when I feel like I want to turn around early, I just look at how much fun she is having and we keep going. My longest distance this year is a half marathon I ran in January.

Reply

Remember….you can have my big dog!!

Reply

I have a dog named Molly and she is so awesome. Love her to death!

The farthest I’ve gone this year is 13.1…just last weekend :-).

Reply

Have fun at the wedding – I’m going to a bridal shower today!

This year my personal distance record is 20.26 – marathon coming up in less than a month! Eeek!

Reply

This year, the farthest I’ve run is a 7-miler during my 10K training. I’ve got a few more of those on my current training cycle but nothing longer planned yet!

Reply

Love that you readers farthest distnaces are so varied. Such a great community in itself. 5.0 for me. Couldn’t walk around the block a year ago. Hope you have a grate family weekend

Reply

That’s awesome! You’ll be surprised what your body can do when you push yourself to go “just a little further.” Keep up the great work!

Reply

I love road trip foods. For some reason eating snacks in the car makes them taste better.

This year my longest distance is 14 miles…it was supposed to be a half marathon, but the course went long.

Reply

Be safe out there, and enjoy your run!

I try to avoid processed snacks as much as possible, but have you tried the Blastin Buffalo Wing Pringles? Wow. I don’t like wings, but never discriminate against the flavor. :-)

Reply

I wish I had a dog! Although I’ve been house sitting for the past few months and got to look after some of the cutest dogs ever. It was so hard to say goodbye :(

Reply

Can’t wait to see Brooke all dolled up for the wedding! Egg drop soup is my favorite, too :)

Reply

We used to have two dogs but sadly, they’ve both passed away in the last 5 years. It’s very sad. In our family, they’re totally part of the family.
My distance record right now is the half I did in February – so 13.1. That will definitely be changing as I train for my full! Woohoo!
Have so much fun this weekened!

Reply

Brooke looks just like Billy’s mom in that picture of them! Sounds like a fun weekend!

Reply

I have two dogs! I have an almost 4 year old herding mix (Border Collie/Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog) who is my best running buddy and we just got a new black lab mix puppy (maybe mixed with a border collie?) who just turned 3 months! I can’t run with him until he stops growing, so probably not for another 9 months…ahhh. Oh well..until then he’s adorably cute and cuddly.

My PDR is 19 miles – I did that last weekend – and I am attempting 22 a little later today!!

Reply

yes!! my dog is my favorite running partner :)

Reply

Aww looks like the best carride ever!! :) Those almond cookies are SO yummy! Have fun at the wedding! Weddings are the best.

Janae, your blog is seriously one of my favs! You are such an inspiration to me. I struggle with becoming obsessed with eating healthy and forget to enjoy my food. Your posts remind me I can be balanced, healthy, active and still have yummy eats! Have you had a hard time finding that balance?

PS. We have a 1 year old Black Lab and oh man is he a handful but he’s my favorite! Definitely is preparing my husband and I for a child in the distant future :) Also, I ran a half in March and PRed. My knee has been acting up since but I had already signed up for another in May!

Reply

My goodness, that picture of little Brooke sleeping is so precious!

Reply

My family has 5 dogs! It is crazy sometimes:)

Farthest, I have ever run was in March and I did 11 miles! I was/am so proud of myself and consider it one of my biggest accomplishments.

Good luck on your run! I did 3 on this beautiful morning.

Have lots of fun at the wedding, cannot wait to see Brooke all dressed up:) (I have a niece name Brooke and I like to call her ‘Brookie Cookie)!

Reply

I love my dog! She’s a boxer mix (and has SO much energy). My PR was 6 miles till I got injured, hopefully I’ll get to beat that soon!

Reply

Very important question: Are the cookies made of almond meal or do they have almonds embedded in them or both?
Any almond meal dessert has my heart always.
Longest run of my life was 19 miles two weeks ago ^^ 20 coming up next week, tomorrow’s a mini-cutback. No treadmill marathons for me yet ;)

Reply

I am such a lame runner, 4 miles is close to the longest I have ever run….well 5 actually. I like to use my legs as an excuse. I am not quite 5’4 and I swear, all the good runners are tall with really long legs.

By the way, I saw a dessert recipe that I just have to share with you. You take one scoop of brownie mix and put it in a muffin pan. You then layer one scoop of cookie dough on top for a dessert called: BROOKIES!!!!

Reply

PDR=3.73 for 2013 completed today!! & it was hilly. happy weekend.

Reply

Farthest I’ve ran outside is 9.3 miles, farthest inside on a treadmill was a half mary. Don’t ask me how I did that… I don’t know. ;)

Reply

My personal best for distance this year is 13.1. I have four rescue dogs and I love them!

Reply

Enjoy the wedding! I ran 15 miles with a friend on one of her training runs a few weeks ago and I’m still paying for it. It was too many miles post-injury for me. This morning I ran in the Virginia Tech 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance honoring our lost Hokies on April 16, 2007.

Reply

I don’t have a dog but I wish I did! Maybe I’ll get one when I eventually move into my own house.

Reply

My puppy Bentley is literally INSANE. Haha, gotta love Malteses! Oh, and your travel food? Good choices ;)

Reply

Hi! That orange chicken looks AWESOME! I did my Saturday run this morning – 9 miles! I am training for my first half marathon in May. I counted 72 geese on my run through the park, and also there was steam rolling off the ground because of the humidity. It was so beautiful:) I was wondering, do you run with your camera? If so, how? If anyone here knows how to do this camera running talent, please share!

Reply

We have 3 dogs, they are the best. It so awesome to always have wagging tails to cheer you up. My PDR is 7 miles but I am determined to make it atleast 13.1 before the end of the year. Congrats to Billy’s brother!

Reply

I LOVE almond cookies from Chinese restaurants! I have a dog…but he lives with my parents. So I guess I don’t really have a dog. His name is Moose and he’s a dachshund and so cute.

My PDR this year is my FIRST half marathon ever in February! 13.1 ! I ran a terrible 6 miles this morning. Ugh.

Reply

First wedding? I thought you were at your sister’s wedding with Brooke?

Reply

Hahaha you are right…. Don’t tell my sister I forgot about that:)

Reply

I love all girl scout cookies. I have a problem…lol. Brooke looks adorbs as always! I ran a 20 miler last weekend and have one more before my marathon next month. I hope your 4 is pure bliss.

Reply

I did 9.8 miles last week… longest run ever! Chinese is so good. Shortbread cookies are okay but my heart will always be thin mints and samoas.

Reply

Ahhh I hate when you post pictures of Chinese food, because then I have to have some!

We have 3 dogs :-) so you can be triple jealous. Two bloodhounds and a mutt.

My PDR so far this year is a little over 13 miles, on a training run for my upcoming half marathon!

Reply

I have a dog! Her name is Winnie and she is the best! Longest run ever is 6 miles but that will soon change! Going to start training for a half!!!!!!!

Reply

I do not have a dog, but if I did I would want a boxer, a lab, or a pit bull/terrier mix

Reply

I am also an avid Swedish Fish lover …. just putting that out there
Have you had Rita’s Swedish Fish Ice yet??

Reply

For this year, my longest was today- 11.5 miles. I have a 1/2 in 4 weeks.

No dogs, allergic! But I think they are great, zi just can not touch them or hang out with them.

Reply

My PDR is 15 miles for this year and for my entire life haha I will someday do a marathon, but we have plans this summer so hopefully next year=)

Reply

i agree, weddings are such a fun time! hope you, billy, and brooke have a blast and eat lots of wedding cake :)

i have 2 dogs – a 5-month-old puppy named archie (he’s a total mutt – all we really know is part terrier and part poodle) and a 3-year-old dachshund named ashton!

my PDR for this year is 13.1 miles (my half marathon in feb :)).

Reply

I ran a half-marathon this MORNING! That’s my longest distance this year, and ever :)

Happy weekend!!! :)

A marathon! A dog? NO!

Reply

We have two lab mixes and they are definitely Alyx’s best friend. She giggles all the time at them.
Have fun at the wedding, don’t forget pictures of the father-daughter dance (if they allow other people to dance too). We took Alyx to a wedding when she was a week old and the two of them dancing together is one of my favorite pictures! Too stinkin’ cute.

Reply

26.2. I’ll make it eventually

Reply

Now that my youngest is almost 1, I’m finally getting back into a regular running routine. Last week I ran 9 miles, which is the longest I’ve run in at least 18 months. I felt pretty strong throughout the run, but, boy, could I feel it the next day!

We have a 9-year-old Vizsla who was our Christmas present to each other the year we got married. He is AWESOME and LOVES our girls. When he was younger, he would go on long runs with us. He’s semi-retired from serious running but still loves to run zoomies around the girls in the yard.

Reply

10 miles so far this year. A sloooow build up to run a couple of halves and then the Chicago marathon this fall. After spending 2 years healing an injury, there’s no way i want to go through that again by doing anything too fast.

You’ll hate me. We have a 6 year old English pointer, and for Christmas my husband got me a sheltie puppy specifically for RUNNING. Cooper is 4-1/2 months old now and the cutest thing. We have to wait until later this summer to run together though. His bones are just too young! Jake has had 2 knee reconstructions, so my husband hunts him some, but he can’t go running. They get along great.

Reply

oh those almond cookies are delicious. i’m asian so we grew up around these:)
personal distance record this year is a 13.1! done last week:D

Reply

26.2 miles is my record this year!! :)
The shortbread cookies can be eaten like potato chips! They’re perfect (but you’re right… no Samoa or Thin Mint!).

Reply

Those almond cookies are so addictive, that I avoid buying them. There are many asian grocery stores in my area, so I always see these in the snack aisle. They come in larger packs (maybe about 20 per package?). I need to find the individually wrapped ones so I don’t all of them within 48 hours!

13.1 miles is my record, so far. I’ll be training for a fall marathon, so I can’t wait to break the 13.1 mile threshold!

Reply

Those cookies look awesome, but I’m still skeptical about the shortbread.

My PDR is 26.2 in March.

I have a dog. Bungee is quite the runner dog lately. She came with me on 9 miles of my long run this weekend.

Reply

Billy’s family’s dog is so cute! I have a puppy, Stella, whom I love so much. I have to say, I was so nervous getting a dog, but I’ve never once regretted it. They enrich life so much! (I’ve also successfully convinced my mom and sister to get dogs of their own too! ) :o)

Reply

We have Lando, our Aussie. So far he has been very gentle with children which we are very pleased :) He’s a lot of work and high energy but we can’t imagine our lives without him.

Billy’s family dog is very sweet!! Handsome funny fellow.

hope you had a fun time at the wedding.

Reply

We have 2 dogs :)

I ran my first 1/2 marathon this past weekend so 13.1 is my longest personal distance!!!
