A HUGE reason to celebrate.

If it is 70 degrees outside it is a mom law that you take your child to the park.

Girlfriend could stay in that swing all day and be happy.

I don’t really know how she felt about the slide.

When it was time to go she really did not want to leave and held on for her life to the rope.

After the park we hung out at home for a little while before heading up to Palo Alto.

We had a huge reason to go celebrate last night.  Remember how I told you that Billy got an internship a few weeks ago?  That was his second choice one and we found out this week that he got his FIRST choice internship.   It is an incredible firm and he is the only first year law student that they hired in any of their offices across the nation.  He is pretty incredible.

Best way to celebrate= eating incredible food.

We went to Cafe Pro Bono.  We started off with the dungess crab pizza (the picture was awful, I will spare you) and it was the best.  I ordered the salmon and I don’t remember the details about what it had on it but it was really good.  So was the orzo, pretty sure that was the first time I have ever tried orzo.

Gotta be honest… I am really craving a Saturday morning long run.  The kind that you come home feeling like you just conquered the world!??!  SO…. that means it is your job to go have an awesome weekend run/race for me and tell me all about it so I can live through you mkay?

Is it spring time yet where you live?

Tell me about your weekend RUN!

Absolute favorite type of fish (Billy and I had a deep conversation about this last night at dinner)?

-Seared tuna.  Heaven.

Congrats to Billy! I hope you baked him a cake to help celebrate ;) That is an amazing accomplishment and I bet he is going to be the best intern they’ve ever had (and only one..) I wish it was 70 by me. We’re still in the 40s and 50s here.

Congratulations Billy! Is that really what the restaurant is called, for law humor? I have never seen baby swings like that before, love them. For what it’s worth my son didn’t enjoy the slide until 18 months. He was never scared before that, more just “umm why in the world would you want me to feel like I’m falling?”

Reply

Wohhhooo thats great news :)

Um it’s blizzarding in Belfast. Not spring :( Easy treadmill 4 today hoping weather clears up for long run tomorrow!

Reply

Congratulations Billy!

It’s Autumn where I am – meant to be getting cooler, but today and tomorrow it is about 30 degrees (that’s Celsius! Not sure what Fahrenheit it is…)

Had a speed run today – 10 x 30 sec with 30 sec JR. Tough in the heat! Tomorrow is about 11.5km (again, not sure on conversion to miles??) Training for my first half so happy with my progress so far!

Hmmm, favourite type of fish… Salmon!

Reply

Congrats to Billy, that’s awesome! We’re close to you (I think), we’re in San Fran. I’m running my first full tomorrow in Oakland! I am loving the temps here because we left our city in a snowstorm. I think I could stay in Cali forever:)

Reply

Congratulations Billy!
Favorite type of fish? Tuna. Especially Trader Joe’s Tuna Steaks. Delish.

Fellow IT Band injury here…I’m so sorry! I miss doing long runs too. =( I did PT for the IT Band and it brought it to where I could actually walk and not want to die, but weirdly enough, the thing that got me actually able to run more than 3 minutes without pain was doing squats, step ups, lunges, and jackknifes (on the exercise ball) from the first phase of New Rules of Lifting for Women. It felt like a miracle, haha, I was able to run again after only a few sessions! And I was only doing NROLFW because I had given up hope of running ever again. I’m still recovering, but it’s light years better.

I feel like every IT band injury is different, but maybe you could try it? At least try the jackknife on the exercise ball – I could really feel my IT Band working when I did those!

I seriously teared up reading about Billy getting this first choice internship and being the only first year student to do so…wow!!!! Congrats, Billy!!

CONGRATS BILLY!!! How awesome!!! Yes it is spring time here! This morning on my run I saw a baby bunny and a little bird in the grass and had that exact thought actually. We are trying a new seafood place tonight so I’ll be scanning the comments later to get some ideas for what I should try :-) Have a great Saturday!

Billy you never fail to impress.

Congrats to billy!! You have to be sooo proud of him!!! I forget that it is spring because it is still super cold and snowy where I live! I am jealous of your beautiful Cali weather….enjoy it!

Reply

Congrats to Billy, that is huge!

Best fish I ever had was some fresh halibut that our neighbor caught down in Laguna and shared with us, we ate it the same day he caught it. Amazing.

Reply

I love fresh walleye, cooked over an open fire. So delicious!! Congratulations to Billy on the internship!

I am heading out for my Saturday run in 1.5 hours. I’m meeting a friend and running around the lakes!! It is warm out today (25 above!!!) so I am taking advantage!!! And yes it is crazy thinking that is warm but we have had a terrible “spring” so far.

Reply

Congrats on the great news!! Have a wonderful weekend!

Reply

Congratulations Billy! That’s really incredible.

Janae, how much does Brooke look like your niece Sadie??? Omg!

I, too, am an ahi tuna girl. Especially when there are sesame seeds encrusted on the outside. Yummmmmm…….

I can’t exactly say that I conquered the world, but I plowed through a 12 miler today, that ended up being easier than expected. At least in retrospect. At the time, I got through the last 2 miles by gluing my eyes to my husband’s back, and keeping my legs moving. [Good thing he has a cute back. ;-)]

Reply

Congrats to your man:) Very exciting!
It is so cold here:( I am so tired of winter running. I have to run 18 miles today, hopefully that last cold long run! I’m ready for spring.
I love salmon. I had blackened ahi tuna last night – rare – so good! Have a great weekend and enjoy your beautiful weather:)

Reply

I am resting today but racing a half Sunday then running 7 miles to make it 20 for the day. My last 20 miler and then tapering for Boston!!

Huge congrats to Billy! I’m a law student so I know how tough it is to get a firm job for 1L summer. That’s truly fantastic news!! I’m returning to the firm I summered at my second summer (I’m a 3L now) and I really loved it, despite the long hours, although I’m in NYC so hopefully it won’t be as bad for Billy!

Also it is not spring here AT ALL and it’s starting to kill me. I only have a few months of freedom left, at least let the weather be good!!

Reply

Congrats Billy! It is not spring here. It is sunny and all the way up to 22 degrees now. That is a warm up. I hope spring hurries up!

Reply

Congrats to Billy! That’s wonderful!!

You are KILLING me with the spring pics/70 degrees/beautiful weather. It has been in the twenties/thirties in Chicago this week. Yes, you read that correctly. It’s still straight up winter right now and it’s awful.

I am doing a long run in about an hour… I was off running the past two days so I’m looking forward to a good sweat.

Favorite fish? Salmon or Chilean sea bass. Love the fishies.

Reply

Oh my goodness….that is such AWESOME news for Billy!! I LOVE seared tuna….runners up would be salmon, cod and tilapia.

Reply

It absolutely is NOT Spring here. Grrr.

Today was my first run post marathon (last Sunday). I ran 30 minutes and felt great! My legs felt really fresh. I think I ran the whole 30 min. with a smile on my face :)

Congrats to B!

I would say grilled Salmon.

No spring time here. It’s supposed to snow today :( But it’s not snowing yet which is why I am going to go run right now. I have 6 miles today.

That is so awesome about Billy’s internship, definitely a reason to celebrate!

Reply

Congratulations, Billy! Way to go!!!!

We have still got snow on the ground here (Truro, Nova Scotia), so I’m jealous of your beautiful weather. I know spring is just around the corner, however!

Favorite fish would be planked salmon.

Reply

Congrats to Billy! He must be so excited.

It definitely doesn’t feel like spring here. Yesterday it was sunny but cold – I still had to wear gloves.

Reply

Awww, she looks so happy at the park!! YAY for Billy getting an awesome internship! The end is in sight now, right?

Reply

Wow great news for billy that’s great!

I have 12kms in the cards for tomorrow’s long run. Cannot wait :)
It’s not spring here yet. We have a bunch of snow and it still gets really cold at night. I cannot wait for warm weather though. I’m always jealous of the pictures u put up!

Reply

Seared tuna for sure! It’s the best. We just finished our run that was cut short by rain but there were lots of hills so I still feel drained. So Im ok with it :)

Reply

That is AWESOME!! CONGRATS to Billy!!!! :D So excited for him, that is definitely a reason to celebrate.
LOVE those pictures of Brooke at the park, I was just showing them to Craig- we both think she is too cute for words. And I love that her & G have similar expressions sometimes. :) Can’t wait to take G to the park, I have been telling Craig that is going to be one of my very favorite things once she gets a little bit bigger. ENJOY your Saturday, I promise to run some miles for you too. Love ya! Xo

Congrats billy! My half was canceled this morning in ut due to too much snow… I have no words

It’s supposed to snow here tomorrow in Illinois! Im not happy – my kids are in spring break!

Today my roommates and I are doing 8 miles!! We’re hoping it’ll warm up to 50 by the time we get out there!

Congrats to Billy!!!!! :)

We took Georgia (our daughter) to the park for the first time a few days ago! She loved the swing and watching all the kids. I think we’ll go more often once she’s sitting up better.
I’ve seen so many of my mom-friends taking their kids to the park in the last few days! Must be warming up in a lot of places. We’re in Florida though, so it’s usually warm here anyway ;)

Congratulations Billy! I’m a white fish girl all the way, and my absolute favorite is Mahi Mahi!

I need to run 5 or 6 today.

Seared Ahi. We are having it tonight with a citrus salad and grilled shrimp. Want my address? ;-)

Yes.

Congrats Billy, and yay for the whole Jacobs family! I’m usually not a fish girl, but give me some grilled tilapia or fried catfish and I’m totally in board. :) That shirt Brooke has on is ADORABLE! No running for today, but I’m taking a new kettlebell class later you can live through vicariously if you’d like! Lol

Reply

Yum crab pizza sounds great! I just finished 7 hilly miles for my long run. Have a great weekend!!

Reply

Technically it’s Spring here in Chicago, but it’s a cold 26 degrees and snow on the way tomorrow :(. Not liking these below normal temperatures and defiantly not this snow on the way. I really wish I could get more outdoor runs in. Jealous of your warm weather!

I am getting in 9 miles this morning, but unfortunately it will be on the treadmill. Oh well, if my IT Band stands up hopefully I will feel like I conquered the world after.

Favorite fish is hard to choose. I really like every type of fish. I think it depends on how it’s prepared too. Deep fried whole catfish is amazing back home at the fish fry’s, however fish tacos with tilapia or grilled salmon is great too!

Reply

Congrats to Billy! Good food is always a great way to celebrate. ;)

It WAS spring here in Utah the last couple weeks, but we woke up to snow this morning. Lovely. I guess that’s Utah for ya though, right? It can’t seem to make up its mind during the spring months.

I had my long run yesterday and did 12 miles! My longest run yet. It was tough in those last couple of miles but I definitely felt the world conquering thing. 2 weeks until my first half marathon, eeeek!

Reply

I live in Central Florida.. so it’s been Spring here for a while! I’m not running this weekend because I’m dealing with an IT issue, but I’m feeling better today, so hopefully Monday I can run! I’ve only been off since Wednesday, but it feels like forever!

Fave fish would have to be salmon or tilapia. I’ve heard lion fish is really good too, although I’ve never tried it!

Reply

It was 28 degrees when I got on the trail this morning at 7:30, but it warmed up to about 38 by the time I finished my ten-miler. It is a gorgeous sunny day and there are buds on many of the trees and bushes. I thought of you as a runner girl went flying by me this morning and left me in her dust! :-)

I could eat salmon every day!

I have a new favorite picture of Brooke, and it’s the one of her on the slide,,, those eyes!!! Congrats to your hubby!

PR this AM….cut that 10K time down by 5 minutes! 56:26
Fish? I would rather starve!

Reply

Congratulations to the man on his internship! I’m all about tilapia with apricot chipotle sauce or in tacos! it’s not so flavorful on it’s own, but it’s great in dishes with seasonings. It’s spring here, too (in Dublin, CA) :-) I’m running with a run club today-5 miles!

I love your blog! My friend and I read it together while siting through our extremely long 4 hour graduate school class. We are both avid runners and so wish you lived in Texas!
AND congrats to Billy! My brother is actually starting law school in August, most likely Duke, and we read over Billy’s posts about law school a while back and sent the post to a few other law school friends. They loved it! Great insight!!

We are having crummy weather here in Atlanta. This weekend it’s chilly and rainy. Bleck!

Congratulations to Billy!! That is so awesome!!!

I hope you still get to stay here!

I’m in San Diego, and it definitely feels like spring if not summer some days. Last night I did a longer run of 7 miles. It was absolutely magnificent! I ran on a track, which for some reason I really enjoy. It seems to make the miles go by faster.

Reply

It’s 37 degrees and partly cloudy here in the Pittsburgh area. I love running in this weather, but 70 degrees is perfect for living weather. I’m looking forward to the warmer, sunnier days ahead.

I’ll think of you while running my 10 miles today. :-)

Love that face she’s making when you’re trying to get her to let go of the rope!

Reply

Congrats to Billy! That’s awesome!!!

It’s starting to be Spring at home now, with a few trees in bloom here and there, but this weekend I’m in Seattle and it is full fledged Spring here! They got snow yesterday, but it was mostly gone by the time I arrived. Looking forward to a beautiful day at the zoo today!

Reply

Congrats! Almost all Atlanta runs were cancelled due to rain :-(

Reply

I woke up this morning to 2 inches of FRIGGIN SNOW! I was at the gym at 6 and when I left, 2 more inches on my car! When will this madness end?? After looking at all these picture of you guys at the park, where warmth is just oozing from the pictures, I could not be more jealous! Ya’ll look like you could be on a cover of a magazine in those pictures. Gorgeous family.

As a result from the snow, I did 10 miles on the treadmill. I was dreading it because my runs outside have been so fabulous, but it went by pretty quick. I finished off with 40 minutes of weights.

Salmon is my favorite fish. I get it anytime we go out because Ross is not a fish fan, so I never cook it and I got to get it when I can. So what happened to the burgers?

Reply

Congratulations to Billy! He’s doing so well with his law school degree! I’m really happy for him! I hope you are able to run soon. I wish I liked fish because you make it look so good! Brooke is getting cuter and cuter every day!

Ughhh it’s not spring here yet and I’m really unhappy about it! It’s cold and rainy! Yay for Billy and boo for your IT Band. Remember…this too shall pass!

Reply

Yay congrats I Billy! That is amazing! Hope you spend all weekend happily celebrating!

I had a race (1/2 marathon) last weekend so today I went out for a run with no pace no set distance and just for fun. I did 14.5 at an 8 minute pace. It was relaxed and super fun after getting nervous/amped/excited last weekend. And it’s not exactly spring here… 41 degrees this morning. Not too cold though!

Reply

Congrats to* (I’ll never leave a note without an error it seems)…

The Pro Bono cafe, that’s hilarious given Billy’s chosen profession. Was the food free? Loved the pics of Brooke as always.
We’ll be luck to get to 50 degrees today – long run on the treadmill again…..
I love almost any fresh fish, but salmon and steelhead are favorites. And I love the tuna I canned myself.

janae im loving your outfit!! where did you get that shirt and shorts? looks cute together! brooke is so adorable!

Reply

Congrats Billy!
Quick question for a fellow treadmill runner… I don’t get the bad rep, I love my treadmill! You don’t have to worry about your hair or the 15 shades of bright blue you’re sporting. BUT, I’m doing all of my training on it for my first half. My babe is a month older than Miss Brooke so I squeeze in runs before she gets up in the AM. Is treadmill training good enough? And, I can only get in 9 before she wakes (I have a phobia about touching her all sweaty so I have to allow a few minutes for a rinse off and a HUGE bowl of cereal after). Then I will run 4-5 more after she goes down again. Is it ok to break up long runs, obviously not ideal, but doable for a half?

Reply

Congrats to Billy!!!

I ran the Marine Corps 17.75k today – it gives you pre-entry into the Marine Corps Marathon. I went into it thinking it would just be a fun run, but it ended up being tough! I highly recommend it, though, everyone and everything about it was awesome and they had foam rollers at the end, which was awesome!

Reply

Is it spring time yet where you live?
NO! They are calling for 3-6 inches of snow tomorrow night! Ugh! So done with cold and snow!

Tell me about your weekend RUN!
I went for a 12 mile run today. Usually, I go longer, but I was exhausted after doing 14 last week…and cranky. My poor boyfriend had to suffer the consequences. So I thought I’d take it easy on my long run day. It was lovely out and I had Chipotle leftovers to think about to get me to the end.

Absolute favorite type of fish (Billy and I had a deep conversation about this last night at dinner)?
I love tuna. But really, I could have any fish if it was wrapped up in a sushi roll! Love spicy tuna, salmon, crab, yellowtail…oh the list goes on!

Reply

it WAS springtime, until we woke up to about 6 inches of snow! me and my sis did our first (official) 5k in it!

Just got back from running 15 along the coast. And I totally crave that “Saturday run I just conquered the world” feeling too. Especially when I ran through 3 different cities in one run, awesome. San Diego weather has been a bit disappointing the last couple weeks. Have a good weekend lady :)

Seriously, Brooke is the luckiest girl in the world. And SO CUTE. Yay for Billy!!

Do you consider spring 3 feet of snow and 30’s? No, it’s not spring. Yooper probs. I’m waiting for my cousin to get here so we can go on a run! I have never eaten fish. I’m thinking about trying a tuna sandwich!

Reply

I’m heading out for my Saturday run soon! 8-mile training run :)
And Congrats to Billy!!!

I was able to run in a little 5k today! Really minimal it band issues. No pain, but I was aware of it, if that makes sense. Super crowded race, and the weather was eh… but I am thrilled that i was able to run!!

Definitely not Spring here. We are supposed to get 8-10 inches of snow here in MO tonight. Luckily I ran a half marathon this morning before the snow arrived and it was great!
I also am a huge tuna fan, so yummy. I love it marinated in soy sauce and cooked on the grill just barely, I like it super rare.
If you liked the Orzo you HAVE to try this Orzo salad recipe, it is the most amazing thing in the world and so easy! It’s got Avocado in it so I know you will love it!

I just got back from a super hard and hilly 5 mile run with a friend. We are newish runners, especially to longer than 5k distances. So we felt on top of the world when we were all red faced and sweaty at the end!!

It’s definitely being Utah’s version of Spring :) sunny one minute and snowing the next! haha Enjoy your 70 degree weather!

I did yoga today, so no run for me. I’ll start up again on Monday.

YAY Billy!!! So happy for you guys!! =) It is freezing here. Insanely jealous you guys are at the park in short sleeves and shorts :/

Congratulations to Billy! That’s very exciting news. To answer your spring question, it is not even close to spring time here yet and I’m very sad about that. There’s still about 6 inches of snow piled up on the ground and we’re getting another storm Monday. Not to mention the freezing temps and winds. Ugh!

New PR for me, 2:11 at the Holy Half at University of Notre Dame.. Guess what? They had Peeps at the finish line along with Jimmy Johns subs and Dunkin Donuts bagels. I instantly thought of you when I saw the Peeps. It’s still cold here :(, but today was decent for the run.

Congrats to Billy! That is AMAZING! I’m also jealous of your warm weather – it’s freeeezing on the east coast.

Great job Billy!!!
I think you need to add orzo to your menus. I love orzo. It is great in a cold Greek salad, but my favorite way to prepare it is mixed in with portobellos and garlic sauteed in butter with black pepper, salt, and fresh rosemary. I usually throw some grated parmesan in, too, or romano.

I am visiting my parents in upstate NY and they have snow right now! Your weather looks amazing. Also that picture of Brooke is to die for!! Sounds like a stellar brunch!!

Reply

My weekend run consisted of 10 miles (longest run for me yet) and I ran on a treadmill. I will not lie and say I was excited to run on a treadmill because honestly, I am not a big fan,but it wasn’t bad. I find that I sweat more when I run inside rather than out in the cold and so that made a huge difference! Afterwards I was extremely happy and proud of myself!!!! Tonight I am taking it easy. Already ate dinner but guess what!? I am hungry again, lol.

Seriously! That picture of Brooke in the swing and the one of her on the slide could be some kind of advertisement for baby clothes or something else baby-related. She is so cute and you take wonderful pictures of her!
