That was traumatizing.

She was all smiles in the waiting room….

but then she realized where we were….

IMG 7799 1

15 lbs 4 ounces.  Girlfriend is growing like a champ.   I must have forgotten that she was supposed to get shots yesterday and when they reminded me that she needed them I almost started crying.  Traumatizing.   Saddest thing I have ever experienced.

Yesterday’s run was a total of 10.1 miles (3.1 before I went to Gold’s for my audition and 7 after).  Slow, easy, Parenthood watching, treadmill miles.  I will take this week slow because I have THIS awesome 1/2 marathon on Saturday!

After Brooke’s appointment we hit the road with our amigos to a city called Livermore to go to the new outlet mall.

IMG 7801

We did something really classy and picked up pizza on the way to the mall to eat in the food court.  We had coupons for free pizza and we were not about to buy food court food when we could get a free pizza.  Papa John’s IS the best kind of delivery pizza.  If you want to be really nice to yourself you should have some of their bbq chicken pizza soon.

DSC 8499

We walked around the outlets for a long time and found some awesome deals.  I am most excited about the fact that Bangs Friend bought the coolest new kitchen gear so that she can continue to make me amazing food.

Hahaha super classy! So sorry Brooke had a traumatic experience. As soon as Noah gets in the door of the doctor he freaks out… The biggest perk of being a mom is getting to watch Noah grow and change. And he’s just getting to the age where we can really play and it’s lots of fun :-)

I watch the news when I run but don’t listen to it– I need my music when I am pounding the pavement outside or on my treadmill!! ipod is a MUST ;) Your little one is SOOO cute!! Parenthood is an awesome show. Our new favorite is The Following! Amazing and so intense

Reply

Aw poor Brooke! I hope you rewarded her with sugar after ;) Kidding, but in a few more months… pizza is definitely keeping it classy. I’ve been bigtime craving it lately. When am I not, though? I hope Billy gets his internship!

Reply

Poor Brooke… shots are no fun. Good luck Billy!!

Favorite pizza place- Little Caesar’s

Biggest perk of my job- I work out in the “field” so I don’t report to an office. I maintain a home office and that’s where I start and end my day… so I guess biggest perk would be no commute :)

Reply

Shots are extra lame. My Peanut has some today. Hold me.

Reply

Awwr poor Brooke! And definitely keeping my toes crossed for Billy )(I need my fingers for typing). I’d have to say the biggest perk of my job is flexible hours and not really having a boss, boss. We have a family business and I’ve been helping out there, so everything is pretty relaxed.

Reply

Aww, poor little Brooke!
Ummm Papa Johns garlic butter sauce =the greatest thing on earth!

Good luck to Billy!

Reply

I love Papa Johns, but I haven’t had it in far too long.

Congrats on your jobs and good luck to Billy on his internship!!!

Biggest perk of my job – “Green Fridays” – March-September the building is closed about 10 Friday’s to save on energy costs (I work at National Geographic)…so it’s an extra 10 paid holidays! We also have tons of other cool stuff like Friday bike rides with the CEO, kayak club, a Farmers Market during the summer and a honey bee hive on the roof.

Reply

Shots are so hard on parents too! Though it’s a good excuse to go get ice cream afterwards. For “them” of course. My favorite pizza place is a long ways away in Chicago- Giordano’s!! You can get the pizzas shipped if you sell your first born to pay for it.

Reply

Wow…you’ve got some awesome perks! My biggest perk is having my own office… I love the privacy. Biggest loser and parenthood are two of my favorite shows to watch when on the treadmill and I also really like watching bachelor. Good luck to Billy!

Reply

I love brick-oven handmade pizza places, but sometimes those chain pizzas hit the spot!

Reply

Poor Brooke- my favorite pizza place is my kitchen. Pioneer woman has an excellent recipe for pizza dough and the kids love the “pick you own topping option”.

Reply

Hey! Now what’s this Google job? What are you going to be doing?

I took spin classes at Gold’s and loved it! So fun! You’ll be a great teacher.

Good luck to Billy today.

And Brookie, you’re an awesome kiddo!

Reply

Good luck to Billy! I’m unemployed – actually, I’m a student haha – but I love it!! I may not have tons of money but I do have tons of freedom :D

Reply

Brooke looks so nervous in that second picture! My favorite pizza is from Papa Murphy’s….either the garlic chicken or the veggie supreme. Plus I feel like I “made” it since you cook it at home!!

Reply

I don’t run on the treadmill, but I do watch both of those shows.
I don’t have a new favorite pizza place yet. But Oregano’s is pretty good.
I get to work from home and therefore, wear whatever I want.

Congrats to you on your new jobs, and good luck to Billy!!! Positive vibes your way.

Reply

Papa John’s is most definitely the best pizza. Poor Brooke with her shots :(

Reply

The best part of my job is being my own boss!!! I think it would be extremely hard to work for someone else again.
Any pizza is good by me. I’m pretty sure I haven’t had a bad piece of pizza EVER!

Reply

I wish I could watch TV on the treadmill! My gym just has a few giant TVs and they play ESPN and the news… boring.

Reply

Isn’t it the saddest when your kids get shots? I was always more upset than my kids! I actually love Papa John’s pizza, and my husband (who will eat anything) doesn’t like it! Go figure. I d not like Pizza Hut though. :)

Reply

Poor Brooke:( I’m sure she handled it like a champ!!
Treadmill run (although I prefer outdoor scenery) I like to watch Kelly and Michael…they crack me up.

Perks of my career- I run and owe my own personal training and bootcamp company so I set my hours and since our gym is in our basement, no commute!! yay:)

Have a great day:)

Reply

I am a nanny. The perks of my job are learning some things for when I become a parent, casual clothes, I never have to wear shoes inside, and I get to watch cable during nap time. Good times.

Reply

Mike and I were driving cross country one time and he’d never had Papa John’s, so we grabbed a pizza to eat on the road. Best decision ever.

Right now, I’m watching Alias when I run on the treadmill. I never watched it when it was on and there’s a lot of action, so it’s great for keeping your mind off the treadmill.

Reply

I started watching Parenthood last night on Netflix after your recommendation…Thanks!

I get some pretty sweet flexibility with my job-I love that!

Reply

I like Marcos Pizza best, although I am not sure how far they have spread at this point. Started in NW Ohio & Detroit, they are down to SW Ohio now. They are AMAZING. :)

Reply

Aw, poor Brooke. But, getting her vaccines is one of the best things you can do to keep her from getting really sick, and I think a very sick baby with a preventable disease would be even more heartbreaking. Shopping for kitchen gadgets is one of my favorite things to do. I bet I’d get along with Bangs’ Friend. :) My favorite TV show to watch on the treadmill is any of the Joss Whedon shows. Good luck to Billy; I hope he gets his internship!

Reply

I disagree, wholeheartedly. Vaccines don’t prevent diseases…

Reply

Picture of her on the scale. Precious.

Parenthood, or Live with Kelly and Michael.

Biggest perk: summers off!!

Reply

Poor Brookie! My nephew has to get his shots today;(

I say this everytime but she is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen. Her little face makes me smile:)

I cannot watch tv while on the treadmill. I can’t focus enough lol and it distracts me but I love to listen to music.

Congratulations on your new jobs! Greatest perk about my job is I only work 3x/week and oh yea, my father is my boss:)
Favorite pizza place is Peter Piper Pizza which moved out of my neighborhood…how rude!

Reply

Holy smokes, Brooke just keeps getting more cute each day! The after picture is ridiculously cute. My son goes for shots tomorrow. I’m not excited. I cried last time.

Reply

Her facs in the picture she’s being weighed in is priceless…poor Brooke

Reply

Those are some pretty sweet perks! I think papa johns is fantastic but I prefer true New York style pizza. Yummm :)

Reply

Outlet shopping is my favorite! We’re going tomorrow & I can’t wait. I have to disagree on the Papa Johns – maybe they’re better on the west coast but we never order from there. Best of luck to Billy!

Reply

Sounds like a fun day! My family and I have been known to pack coolers and set up shop at tables in wineries while winery hopping! So fun. Favorite show to watch while running = ellen, Favorite pizza place = pontillos, biggest perk of my job = government employees do NOT work over 40 hours a week, so as a contractor neither do I! Plus most of them take Fridays off so Friday is typically nice and slow!

Reply

Best pizza: Fresh Slice! Oh so yummy!

Best perk of my job: I’m a teacher without a class right now, so I’m on-call (Substitute). I get all of the fun of teaching the kids all day without having to worry about things like writing report cards. It also frees up more time and energy for me to run!

Reply

My job has a lot of perks! I’m very lucky. We get a ton of vacation time, and if I need to take more time off it is never a problem. My boss pays for my gym membership. And we have wine and cheese on Fridays! It’s great :)

Reply

Best pizza: so many to choose from…I’m going with Gruppo Thin Crust on Avenue B in NYC. Delicious!

My daughter is 7.5 months right now but she was exactly 15 lbs., 4 oz. at her 6 month appointment too!

Reply

aw poor Brooke! I would have been traumatized as well, glad she is a healthy happy baby though!

Reply

Right now I’m catching up on old seasons of Sons of Anarchy. (I guess I’m kinda a biker chick). I will likely move onto Parenthood next though cuz I’ve loved the episodes I’ve seen. Pizza=Papa Murphy’s take & bake or Dave’s Pizza Cirner in Valley City, North Dakota. Job= I’ve got a lot of freedom here as long as I get my stuff done & my co-workers are awesome!!

Reply

I absolutely love that you picked up pizza to eat at food court. that is legendary!!!
I watch Food Network while on the treadmill – always!!!

Reply

I’m just catching up today-Congratulations on the new jobs!!

Reply

I don’t run on the treadmill much, but if I did I’d watch how I met your mother, two broke girls or bascally any comedys to make me laugh. Pizza Hut is the best pizza place around us…stuffed crust yum! Two perks about my job are hanging out with the sweet babies all day and having four days off a week! Have a great day :-)

Reply

Oh my goodness – Brooksies face is soooo cute when she is being weighed. Max doesn’t care about needles that much, he barely even cries. He did give the nurse a really nasty look when he got three in a row during his 12 month check up :-)

Perks of my job? “Summers” off as I am a teacher – although I choose to teach summer school and go back early, so a summer off is only 3 weeks. :-)

Reply

Oh my gosh her expression when she is being weighed is too cute!
perks of my job are definitely the fact that it is 1.5 miles away so i can go home a lot, etc. and also that it is a small office so i am able to step out and run errands, etc if needed pretty easily

Best Pizza

*Pittsburgh- Church BrewWorks (an old Catholic church converted into a brew pub with the best food around! It’s beautiful inside, and the architecture and environment alone make it divine!)

*Boston- Veggie Planet in Club Passim (Harvard Square)

*Enumclaw, WA- The Mint Ale House (an unexpected find during Christmas 2011)

*Sevilla- My House Mom’s place

Reply

Currently, I work from home. Biggest perk: I have access to MY WHOLE KITCHEN to make lunch (no brown bagging it for me these days!!!). Second biggest perk: I can wear workout gear all. day. long.

Reply

Oh my gosh, Brooke’s face in that 2nd photo! She looks like, “Mom! No, I don’t think this is such a good idea!”
My job right now is I guess technically a graduate student in a PhD program, but since I get paid full-time my title becomes “Teaching Assistant”. By far, the biggest perk of my job is that I make my own schedule and do whatever I want! Haha sounds great, right? It is, except for all the stress and the many years it takes to get that Dr. title :)

Reply

Shots are so sad! Tylenol really helps if you’re into giving her meds. My baby girl is wearing the same outfit today :).

Reply

Shots are the worst! My little guys always know they are coming if I am extra lovey and huggy during their doc appt.

I spot so many things in that kitchen store I need! *need* being relative, I imagine in my hubby’s eyes….

So far the biggest perk to my new job is getting paid. We do have a nice onsite cafe but we pay for our own meals. :) May have to check out the other comments to see what I am missing out on!

Reply

I love watching biggest loser on the treadmill! So inspiring!

Reply

My favorite pizza is from a local place called Picasso. It is amazing – my favorite is the Renee’s Scarlet. It has roasted red peppers, portobello mushrooms, and mountains of goat cheese.

There are many perks of being a teacher – summers “off”, fall/winter/spring break, and of course my awesome students. At the gym, the biggest perk if free gym membership. Being a cheer coach has a few perks (other than hanging out with my amazing cheerleaders) such as free game admission (even to state playoff games) and free food at home games. We have the best bbq nachos in the world. :)

Reply

Woo! I’ll be praying for Billy to get the internship!
And those are DEFINITELY awesome perks to get by working at Gold’s Gym :)

Reply

Y’all get awesome free coupons more than anyone I know! Awesome for you guys! GOOOD LUCK Billy!

Reply

I like to watch anything to make the time pass on tv but I do love parenthood too!!! :) Good luck billy!

Reply

Oh my goodness that picture of Brook in the scale is so cute. Her face is just precious. Biggest perk of my job? I’m a nurse… working 12-hour shifts means I get four days off every week. Win! Good luck to Billy!

Reply

Shorts are hard, but keep in mind that it’s short term pain for long term gain. They’re totally worth it.

I love Papa John’s. I wish he was my papa so I could get free pizza all the time.

The best perk of my job? Running when the kids are in school. Plus the fact that they’re awesome. And they tell me they love me all the time. And they’re cute. The best part of my job is my kids.

Reply

I hope Billy’s interview goes well!!

Reply

That is hilarious that you got a pizza to eat in the food court!! -Well done! When I was little, I had a phobia of eating in the food court- so weird.

Biggest perk of my job? SUMMERS OFF!! :)

Reply

awwww! Poor Brooke! Fingers crossed for Billy!

Fingers crossed for Billy! Clerking during 1L summer is an awesome way to set up for success with 2L summer, which is the key to post-grad employment. Luck!!!!!

Hey! I go to the livermore outlets all the time! I live about twenty minutes from them. I read your blog all the time and I have a three month old.

A) Brooke could be a baby model — seriously. LMK if you need some contact info and I can give you some names.
B) Livermore!!! I am like 10 minutes aways! Call me next time :)

Reply

I’ve fallen into the trap of watching 30 rock after reading Tina Fey’s book, Bossy Pants. I started at season 1 episode 1 last month and I’m at the end of season 4 now.
Biggest perk: doing what I love every day and getting paid for it.

Reply

The biggest perk of my job is summers off!! There is a local pizza place here that has awesome thin crust pizza and since I’m a jersey girl that’s my fav. I watch The Chew most times while on the treadmill. Good luck Billy!

Reply

No TV near our treadmill, but I need to fix that. Right now I feel like i’m in jail – our treadmill faces the wall. Fun times!

Best perk of my job? Great health care benefits, 5 weeks of vacation, & it pays well!

Reply

Oh so sad!! Brooke’s face :(

That was smart to grab pizza! I LOVE outlet malls. Love ’em.

I love my job(s) because I get to help people get healthy!! And fit! (health coach & fitness instructor)

Reply

Brooke’s expression looks like most other females when they have to get weighed! Priceless!!! :-)
I’m a personal trainer so the biggest perk of my job is that I get to help people learn to live healthier lives! It’s the best!

Reply

I have never tired Papa John’s….and yet I love pizza! Will make sure to order from them soon!

Reply

I think Papa Johns pizza is SO good.

I think the biggest perk of my job is that my bosses are very supportive about physical fitness and allow me to go run during the day. Since I’m a single mom and have my daughter before and after work (and have no treadmill….) it’s a HUGE help.

Reply

Congratulations on the new job(s), that is fantastic! I watch Parenthood via Netflix while I run also, I am currently in the 2nd season, it is such a great show! This is my first season with the Biggest Loser and I am loving it. I have always really liked Jillian Michael’s so I figured I would watch BL since she was returning.

Reply

Awww.. Brooke’s face in that second picture breaks my heart! So glad to hear she’s healthy and growing though! That pizza looks smashing!! :)

Reply

P.S. So I’m curious to hear more about the Google job. I know you might not be able to say much, but I’m guessing that Google has an office building in your town? So crazy cool!!

Reply

I’ve spent a ton of time on the TM, thank God for Netflix
Brothers and Sisters, kind of like Parenthood
The Tudors
Mad Men
and now 24.

Reply

TOTALLY agree with you on the Papa John’s! We get the grilled chicken club pizza, though, which is amazing! The hubs prefers the BBQ but alas, I never let him get it because I love the club that much more. Sorry to hear Brooker didn’t do too well at the doc’s. :( Can’t wait to hear your race recap after this weekend!

Reply

I’ve been a faithful reader of your blog for about 6 months now and I’ve never commented but today I had to because Livermore is my hometown! Yay! The outlet stores are pretty awesome, huh? Glad you had a good time in little old Livermore :) speaking of favorite pizza places, Mountain Mike’s is pretty delicious and they sometimes have great deals online! I’m pretty sure they have a couple locations in San Jose, but the one in Santa Clara closed.

Reply

We had our 4-month shots on Friday (my 75th percentiler is already 15.2 pounds!) and it was bad for me but she was amazing. She let out a big “WAHHH” but then stopped and took the pacifier…then fell asleep. Silly baby.

Reply

I love Brooke’s expression when she’s at the Drs. that’s how I feel sometimes too! haha Congrats on your new jobs! :) :)

Reply

My gosh, Brooke is just sooo beautiful. I cannot beleive how big she looks in that picture on the scale! And her hair is so long. I wish I could squeeze her (In a loving way!!)

Reply

I’m from NY so local pizza places all the way!

Reply

I don’t run on the treadmill, but I have begun watching Parenthood because of your blog.. I’m addicted! My favorite pizza place is probably Giordano’s Pizza in Chicago or Louisa’s Pizza in my hometown. Chicago pizza= heaven. The biggest perk of my job is seeing the excitement in the students’ faces when they learn something new or when they have their “a-ha!” moment. As an environmental educator, it makes my job worth it when the kids I work with come up to me and show me something in nature and are able to explain it to me.

Reply

I know she’s slightly traumatized but that is one of my favorite pics of Brooke. Her little face is so cute!!

Reply

Congrats on your new jobs, that is wonderful. I hope Billy gets his internship, I am sure he will rock it!

The biggest perk at my job is the fact that I work a full-time office job out of the house yet he allows me to bring my baby with me every day. From 3 months old, to now 2 years old she has been by my side every single day. Love it.

Reply

awe. i hate when my kids get shots. it’s the worst. poor brooke. the perks of my job (mom) are endless. but probably that i get to work out a LOT and be the master of my schedule. hanging out with my cute kiddos is great too:)

i mostly run on the gym treadmill and they have basic cable. so whatever is on when i am there is what i get. but i really love watching pawn stars. it’s on a lot there. sooo funny!

Reply

oh my gosh that second picture of brooke. so sad. so adorable!

Reply

I have four kids, the youngest is six, and I STILL absolutely hate it when they have to get shots. Don’t mind getting them myself, but seeing their faces crumple kills me. Hey–great shots of Brooke. I have been meaning to ask, what kind of camera do you use? Your pictures are uniformly pretty fantastic.

Reply

Hey thanks! It is the Nikon D7000!

Reply

Awwwww look at that little face! Bless.
Best perk of my job as a nanny would be a pretty flexible schedule and getting spend lots of time outside walking/playground!

Reply

I like watching anything that deals with weight loss or fitness. Biggest Loser is one of my favorites and I also really liked the My 600 Pound Life shows that TLC used to have on. Favorite pizza place is Dough Boys pizza in Virginia Beach. Good thing it is quite a drive away or I would be there way too much:) The best perks of my job are the hours and schedule. I am a school counselor so I get summers off and I typically get to leave between 3:30 and 4:00 every day. I am super jealous of your new jobs! I am thinking of taking some classes to become a spin instructor during the summer. Any advice?

Reply

Congrats on the jobs!! I LOVE how you capitalized “Bangs Friend”!!! hehe!

Reply

AAAAH!! Congrats on the job(s)!! That is so awesome. Now I wish I was a Gold’s Member so I could take your class, but alas, I am 24 hr fitness chica.

Biggest perk of my job, I get to work with my Dad and he lets me paint sometimes :)

Fingers crossed for Billy!

Awww-poor Brooke. That picture about broke my heart! I love Johnny’s pizza (local Louisiana) and Donatos (local in Ohio) I really wanted that for supper tonight, but had cereal instead. I’m trying to think of perks in my job, but I don’t think there are any.

Reply

Ooh poor Brooke! I’m glad the rest of the day was much more fun!

Perks… Not too much to be honest, but dirt cheap vitamins are nice, and we get free fruit most mornings which I fully take advantage of haha.

Reply

Brooke is growing beautifully.

Maybe this is terrible but Brooke’s terrified face is super precious!
