Procrastinator of the year and my shoe rotation.

I had no desire to be cold this morning.  I did what we runners do best when we aren’t really feeling like going outside for a run quite yet…. procrastinate (and in my case I procrastinated for 5 hours because I wouldn’t step foot outside until it was the warmest it was going to get for the day… aka 50 degrees ((I am a disgrace to my Utah friends and family)).

Things I did to procrastinate running:

Make dinner (in the crockpot), clean (I never do that), eat breakfast, eat every snack in the house, read Brooke every book that she owns, emails, take creepy pictures of myself to show you that I wore every color of the rainbow for my run today, pluck my eyebrows, read every blog known to man and organize our food cupboards.

Let’s take a second to talk about shoes before I talk about my run.  I had someone ask me the other day how I rotate my shoes.  I used to be obsessed with rotating my shoes and wearing a specific shoe for each run.  I probably had 3 different types of shoes and brands of shoes that I would switch off between throughout the week.   HERE is post that I did a while ago about all of the different shoes I was using at the time.

Now I wear the exact same shoe for easy runs, speed work, long runs, hill work and even trail running (I am really wanting to get some trail specific shoes though).  I think it is because I found my shoe and so I have no desire to wear anything else.  My shoes are light, comfortable and fit my foot perfectly (Brooks PureFlow 2s).

I am glad I took 2 paragraphs to answer a simple answer…. I don’t rotate shoes anymore.

We finally made it out at 12 ish for a slow, easy 8 miles on the bike trail.  If you ever come visit me I am taking you on this bike trail… you never have to stop, there are other runners/bikers everywhere along the path, it is super smooth (no bumps=less likely for me to trip) and the scenery is gorgeous.

My legs feel like led after yesterdays speed workout so I took it really easy

To continue on with my snacking day, I am about to eat beef jerky and my strawberry banana juice.  My love for this juice is getting out of hand.

My car is currently not working so I guess that means I am forced to stay home the rest of the day and watch The Biggest Loser.

I just started rotating shoes this year, and it’s working great. Except for now I’m getting more of Wave Riders than anything else in my rotation. Not a very balanced rotation!

And at least you get it done, even if there’s a nugget of procrastinating. Sometimes I get to the gym and thirty minutes passes before my heart rate even elevates slightly. I like to talk to everyone on my way to exercise.:)

I’m pretty obsessed with my Brooks Glycerin 10s. My feet have never felt better and they totally cured my hip flexor issues. Is it wrong that I wish they were prettier though? I have the PureCadence that I wear to work and they are so pretty! And my Cascadias are gorgeous! Why can’t the Glycerin’s be cuter?!?!?!

Reply

Ditto! I wear the glycerines too, I swear they are their ugliest model!

I’m definitely not a procrastinator when it comes to running. Laundry, now that’s another story! I am a 3 meals person then a night snack/dessert person! I want to add more snacks throughout the day though… it feels more normal that way. And YES car problems. I need a new headlight and new brake pads. Another thing I AVOID- car maintenance.

Reply

If I procrastinate at all it won’t happen so I try not to procrastinate. I try to stick to three main meals. Snacking and me don’t mix because I will overeat. Today turned into a nonstop day of snacking though. Whoopsies.

There are CERTAINLY days where I sit fully clothed in running gear..and I’ll just sit for hours and hours before I actually do the deed! ha!

I don’t really rotate shoes much anymore either!

Aaand, I’m a throughout the day snacker..and DEFINITELY a huge night-time snacker – something about that time of day that makes me super hungry!

Reply

I’m such a procrastinator for my long Saturday runs… when I’m not in a rush to get out the door and get to work, I find that I take HOURS to get out the door and run. I eat breakfast, drink some coffee, surf the net, clean up… anything but run.. I’m not sure why because these runs are always my favorites!

And yes, I snack alllllllll day long!! I can’t live without snacks! :)

Sometimes I am and sometimes I am not a procrastinator. When I am I usually procrastinate by wasting time on the internet.

I do rotate shoes. The Brooks ST Racer is my favorite!!

I am procrastinating as we speak. Though I am watching other kids, so it REALLY would be hard for me to exercise right now. At least, that is what I am telling myself. I will be dropping them off soon and picking up Anna from school, and THEN I will run. So I guess I am procrastinating by reading your blog as we speak ;)

Good job on the run. You are right – that view of Brooke IS pretty dang awesome.

I don’t rotate shoes. I wish I could. But I can barely convince Ross that I should replace the ones I have after 500 miles. He is a non believer in that.

I am a snacker all day AND eat 3 meals kind of person. What can I say? I REALLY like food.

Ross’ car window won’t roll up and so it didn’t pass inspection…in JULY! He can’t figure out why though and it is driving him nuts. So he continues to drive that car around with an expired registration because he refuses to ever take the car to a professional because he is used to being able to figure stuff like this out. Can we say prideful or stubborn?? I hope your car is ok! I only like being ‘forced’ into staying at home for so long ;)

I NEED one of those lulu lemon headbands. Not want, need. Also love how happy Brooke is. She’s going to be a runner. I can feel it. I can’t imagine switching up shoes. I’m in love with my mizunos and that’s that. I can’t betray the wave riders and forget the hundreds of miles we’ve put in together haha maybe a tad dramatic but I just really love them and all of their neon pink glory.

Reply

I am a 3 meals a day person… my snacking quickly gets out of hand. I rotate between 2 pairs of sneakers. One pair has only been used on treadmills, the other is for outside running. It’s kind of like how little kids have nice shoes & play shoes.

Reply

I rotate three shoes right now in addition to orthotics that I sometimes wear in each. I’m hoping to add a few more shoes to the rotation. We have about $2000 worth of repairs we need to do on our car so we’re thinking about getting rid of it

I ran in the super cold and rain last night. It sucked but I really needed to run. I’m training for my first 5k and I had my motivation to do so and didn’t want to ruin that. Because of the cold, I’m using my elliptical very regular, as I have no treadmill. I’m also working out with weights which I don’t normally do but I’m getting that into my routine. I do snack a lot throughout the day, I just had some trail mix, and earlier fruit. Who knows what’s next, but I want to lose weight so I like to keep low cal snack around. Thanks again for all your daily motivation.

Your procrastination sounds exactly like mine, and I’ve been doing a tonne of it lately. Cleaning, cooking, organizing, doing my nails, snacking, blogging… my favorite things to do to avoid doing what I should be doing. But I guess it all gets done in the end anyways, eh? And holy.wow have I been a snacking fiend lately – it’s actually getting a little out of hand.

Reply

I posted on my blog just earlier today that I only wear my Pure Cadence shoes now. I used to rotated between a bunch of shoes as well, until I found my PC’s and I adore them so much I don’t want to wear anything else. I’m with you, when you find the perfect shoe stick with it! It’s incredible.

You’re a lucky duck to run in weather like that this time of year! I wish I could consider 50 degree weather cold.

I’m totally a running procrastinator too.

PS We are best friends in my mind because I like to think we are so much alike.
PPS Kate Middleton (Wales) is our third imaginary best friend.

To procrastinate? Read and comment on blogs! : )
I don’t rotate shoes and if I do, it is same shoe just two pairs.
I have 3 meals and fruit in between.
No car trouble (knock on wood) and it is under warranty if I do.

Hi Janae! First-time blog commenter here. I started reading your blog a few weeks ago (thank you for the endless entertainment), but it took me this long to realize that we’re both in the Bay Area. Do you mind sharing where the bike trail is? I’m looking for a new trail to do my long runs on. In the meantime, you should check out the Stanford Dish (http://dish.stanford.edu/) if you haven’t gotten a chance to run it yet. Just a warning- it’s SUPER hilly and kicks my butt every time, but I’m sure it would be no match for your trail-running skills!

My shoe is the Brooks Adrenaline – I think my current pair is on its way out, and I can’t wait to buy the newest model!

Reply

PureFlows are also my shoe. I’m on my 3rd pair. I love, love, love them!

Reply

I love Pure Flows. They are my favorite pair of running shoes. The only other shoes I “rotate in” are my Pure Grits. If you love the Pure Flows, you should definitely get the Pure Grits for trails. They just released the new model – PureGrit2 and they have much better traction than the 1st. I HIGHLY recommend them (especially since you already like the Pure Project line).

Reply

I wear nikes for my workouts–but I’m not running right now really. I know, gasp. I was just over long distances after the half IM. Hah.

Brooke is tooooo cute in her carriage ;)

I am more of a snacker–I have ‘meals’ yes, but I have meals like all day long! Hah.

Reply

I am a HUGE procrastinator when it comes to running (I’ve been home for an hour and still have not gone). Ways to procrastinate include: eating chocolate, cleaning (less frequent than the chocolate eating), playing with the cat, eating cookies, uh- blog reading! Ha! After all that procrastinating, I would definitely fall into the snacker category.

I rotated shoes this fall for the first time when I was breaking in a new pair before a race, but normally I wear them until they are worn out. My motto – why change something that’s already working well?

Reply

I’m definitely a snacker … especially now that I’m pregnant! I pretty much eat all day. ;) Eating a big meal usually doesn’t work for me these days because I don’t have enough room in there right now!

Reply

Procrastinators everywhere shed just a little tear of pride! Way to go!
I will do anything to procrastinate. My running blog and my love of blog stalking provides me hours of unproductive fun. Especially if I have lots of snacks. Yummy.

I just saw this and immediately thought of you. It’s about LA’s recent “cold” temperatures.

I procrastinate running by reading running blogs. I figure I get a mile for every 10 blog posts I read, right?

Hey! Not answering your questions…but piggybacking on about The Biggest Loser. I am going to try Bob’s deck of cards workout tomorrow morning. Did you understand what to do about the sit-up portion? BTW, my little girl is 4 months old and doesn’t nap…I am trying to get up super early in the am to workout before she gets up….so far, I have not done it….maybe Bob’s workout will motivate me :(

Reply

No procrastinating for me anymore! Three little kids guarantees that if I don’t get out at an absurd hour of the morning, then my run is in danger of not happening! :) So I get it done.
I am like a 5 meal a day girl
And, the pure flows are my shoe – however the redesign of those 2’s are not agreeing with my left foot and it’s making me really sad! So I just ordered three pairs of the original ones, in hopes that when they redesign it again, it will work. I also have the connects, and love them. I might give the cadences a try – maybe I switched to a slight overpronater, who knows! I just love the flows:)

Reply

I can’t procrastinate my workouts. I’ve learned through experience that if I put it off, it won’t happen!

Reply

I am guilty of not rotating shoes (except for trails). I love snacking but would definitely not a fan of beef jerky. And watching the Biggest Loser is a perfectly good way to spend the day :)

Reply

I’m a snacker all day kind of person. And I haven’t had any car problems, but my boyfriend has. He just bought a new car and literally 5 days later, the tire pressure light went on in his car! What kind of luck is that? Luckily it was a quick fix (they just hadn’t tightened something or other quite enough).

i have been home from work for 2 hours and i am still procrastinating. Many of the same things on your list. Had multiple after school snacks, made dinner, cleaned refrig (who does that on a random tuesday?) reading YOUR blog now…….and every last comment ahead of mine………

OK here we go….3, 2, 1

I usually don’t procrastinate running, love morning running. I wish I had more than one pair of shoes to rotate but I don’t. My shoes are ok but I don’t LOVE them.

Hello, I have been reading your blog for a while and it is by far my favorite! I look forward to your posts everyday :O
I found your blog while I was looking for tips on how to recover from disordered eating and amenorrhea. I found your blog when I read about female athlete triad. I saw that you had lost your period and after reading that I went to the home page and discovered that you had just had Brooke. It made me happy for you (is that creepy?) that you got better and had a baby which is what I want to do one day.
Anyways, I am 16, I love to run and I need some advice. Is there any way you could help? If so, do I type my questions here in the comments? :)

Reply

I’m not much of a runner procrastinator. My weekday runs take place in the evening after work, and if I procrastinated I would run out of daylight. On the weekends I’m usually meeting my running buddy for a long run. Otherwise I probably would procrastinate on the weekend.

I rotate between three pairs of the same type of shoe. MY shoe is the Asics GT-2170, it’s a love affair.

I typically stick to three meals a day with an afternoon snack, but watch out if I get bored. There may not be any snacks left in the house!

No car troubles lately, but now that I say that…. Knock on wood.

Thanks for the comment on my blog! :-)

Are you a runner procrastinator? What sort of things do you do to procrastinate a run? YES! I do everything you mention (except pluck my eyebrows – because they are already super thin…in not a good way). If I get through all that stuff, then I might throw in a stretch, and if I realllyyy want to put it off, I’ll check my Garmin options to see if there’s any changes I should/can make for the run. Funny though, my procrastinating is usually in the summer when I’m waiting for the sun to start going down to make shade. 50 sounds like the perfect temperature for running.

Do you rotate running shoes? Have you found YOUR shoe?
Nah – not really. I’ve started liking UA’s and have an awesome pink pair that I’ve gotten 4 pr’s in this past season – so I’m sticking with them! My hub bought me 4 – yes, 4!, pair for Christmas in all different colors – but I keep the pinks for races .. they’re my good luck shoes. (I’ll email you a picture if you want) I do have a pair of Asics that I wear on longer runs, and another pair of the gym. So, it does kind of sound like I DO rotate my shoes – huh…

Are you more of a snacker all day or a 3 meals a day kind of person? I am CONSTANTLY eating! Like every two hours. No one big meal, just little meals throughout the day. I’ve always been a grazer. I’m going to have to try that juice, if I can find it around here. My boss makes me carrot/apple juice in her juicer – and it is heavenly!

Have you had any car problems lately? Nope – knock on wood!

PS – I had to cut/paste your questions so I could remember them! ha ha

Ohhh my goodness I was craving beef jerky so badly today and was scouring the cupboards hoping to find some. I definitely need to get some at the store tomorrow though!

Reply

My shoe rotation is between Brooks Glycerin and about three pairs of mocassins :)
My car has the “check engine” light on 24/7. My dad continues to turn it off and I continue to say it isn’t the brightest idea.

My favorite way to procrastinate: Think of doing what I’m supposed to be doing and “planning it out” like little movies in my mind haha.

Reply

I have found my running shoe, Mizuno Wave Riders 16. I love love this shoe. I use my Saucony Ride 5 for cross training, for whatever reason I like more padding when I do the elliptical over running.

Reply

i’m with you on the brooks – i switch back and forth between the pureconnects and the purecadence… and use the cadence for higher mileage runs. do you still have two pairs of flows that you rotate between, or just put a whole bunch of miles on 1 pair and start all over? just curious.

I don’t ever rotate my shoes either. I was running in Brooks Launch and just ordered the Pureflow 2s….I CANNOT WAIT! They are on backorder, but I am super excited to try them out. Especially after reading this post! I am a teacher and have to exercise WAY too early in the morning. I will sit at the kitchen table and play on the computer for a good 20 mins before I get my butt to the basement and on the treadmill ;)

Reply

I procrastinate for about ten minutes every morning before actually getting out of bed. What finally motivates me is knowing how much more pleasurable my day will be having run
I usually have three pair of shoes in rotation at any given time. I have my short distance, long distance and speed shoes. Tempo and hills would fall under the long distance shoes category for me. As for my go to shoe…..depends on the day….Brooks Purecadence,Brooks Ravenna, Asics 2170, Under Armour Spine.
No big meal here. I eat all.day.long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply

On the weekend I procrastinate working out like it’s my job…usually by sleeping in or scrolling through three days worth of my Twitter feed! I always have at least two pairs in my shoe rotation. My xc teammate told me that after a run, your shoes need at least a day to “recover” from that run. The foam needs to like “re-expand” or something? I don’t know if that’s true, but I always think about it when I rotate my shoes! haha Good excuse to buy more ;)

I am a HUGE procrastinator! I let the dog out. Change the toilet paper roll. Switch the laundry over. Talk to the husband. Read blogs (like right now!!). I think it is just part of my process. :)

Reply

I have become so bad about procrastinating with my running lately. I used to be so good last fall, but I got injured and it’s so nice to sleep in, so I’ve gotten in a bad habit of putting my runs off.

“My” shoe is definitely the Brooks Ghost 5 (or whatever iteration of the Ghost Brooks has out at the time). I’m hooked for life unless they really screw up the design, which luckily they haven’t done since I discovered the Ghosts. :)

Happy running!

Reply

That’s great that you have a perfect pair now to run in! I can’t believe you got all that other stuff done today too!

Reply

I usually have two shoes in rotation — an older pair and a new pair — plus my Nike Frees, which are random obviously. No huge system to it, but using different shoes seems yo have helped some injury issues.

Reply

I’m personally a big fan of the 3 square meals PLUS snack all day :)

When it comes to the cold I’m a HUGE run procrastinator. There’s nothing worse than running in a windy 30 degrees. I wait for the sun to hit that perfect spot in the sky where I’m positive it will just shine on me all day.

I’ve gotta try the naked juice! Is it really filling (like a thicker/smoothie like consistency) or more of just a juice you can drink with breakfast or snack? Is the strawberry banana your favorite?

Reply

just swapped my trainers, for exactly the same pair in a differenet colour.
ps- you were in my dream last night (sorry about that-bit weird )-and my thought in m dream, wow, you are this happy in ‘real life’ and how oh how are you that slim when you eat so much ! happy days

Um, yes, procrastinator of the year over here. I never seem to clean though. Ha ha. :) I’m so running with you on that trail sometime. ;)

i’m not rotating my shoes now either. when i was training hard i would always use spikes or flats for my hard workouts though. but now all my miles are in the nike lunar glides. :)

i love brooke’s zebra top there!

I am the anti-run procrastinator. If I haven’t done my run for the day, I think/plan incessantly for it, and worry that something will come up to disrupt my plan. If I do it first thing in the morning, it’s done, and I can move on to worrying about something else. :)

My husband, however, will happily procrastinate his weekend long run until Sunday night. As you can imagine, if we’ve decided to run together, this drives. me. bonkers. Usually, I’ll only agree to this plan if there’s some delicious Sunday night post-run dinner dangled as a bribe. Otherwise, I’m out and done by late morning Saturday.

I’m only a rotator for my trail shoes. I have one pair that cover me on both roads and treadmill, then I have 5 different pairs, for different kinds of off-road conditions. Hey, some women collect purses. I collect trail shoes. :)

Reply

I have that headband!! We’re twins!!

I am a MAJOR procrastinator, but reading your blog always gets me pumped up to run!! :)

Reply

I love how happy Brooke looks about that trail run. She’s totally going to be a runner.

I tend to procrastinate my runs if something is on schedule that I don’t want to do, with the exception of long runs. You can’t put those suckers off.

I only wear Brooks Adrenalines. There’s no need to rotate when you’ve found the perfect shoe, right?

Reply

My shoe is Brooks PureCadence, I am crazy about them! I loved the Adrenalines, but now I can’t get past how wonderful the PureCadence’s are. I’ve managed to run outdoor and indoor with zero issues.

Reply

I am a three meals a day person. I cannot snack for most of the day because it is kinda gross to be teaching and shoving a granola bar in my mouth at the same time ;-)

I ran out of gas for the first time ever a couple of months ago. I was driving my FIL’s car and his gas gauge was totally off. I had no idea what was happening, and I had to literally flag a car down to help me push the car off the road as I had Max in the car seat. Total gong show.

Reply

hahaha I’m a huge procrastinator, I’ll clean, read blogs, watch documentaries on Netflix, call my Mom, text my boyfriend about how I need to run…

Reply

You look great and Brooke looks so happy to be out running. I definitely wait until 11 or 12 now on Sundays to run. Other than that I run during the week over lunch so it’s the same time every day, no room for variance. I used to rotate a bunch of shoes but I sacrificed them to Tough Mudders and am down to 2 pairs that are good for running from my 4. So far my favorite shoes are my current Nike Relentless 2 – I still think there is a better one out there, I was really have with my Mizuno Wave Riders but they were a tiny bit too narrow. FINALLY – I eat 3 meals a day and about 2 or 3 snacks depending on the day.

Reply

I would seriously kill to run in 50 degree weather most days. It was -22 without the windchill up here in northern Minnesota yesterday.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who does unheard of things to put off a workout a little longer! ;)

I have never rotated shoes as I don’t run enough for that. But MY shoe is the Brooks Adrenaline mainly because they come in double wide. I have funny feet. I really want to try Mizunos though. And a shoe I want just cause is the new Asics Gel Noosa Tri 8-check those beauties out. SWOON.

I have the Bachelor and the Biggest Loser on my DVR-must catch up asap! :)

My current favorite song to run to is Basket Case by Green Day. It’s an oldie, but it totally pumps me up! I am dying to have these headphones!

Reply

I only have 2 pairs of running shoes and I only rotate if I’m running outdoors vs indoors. I too dislike the cold but I’d take your 50*F over )*F any day.

Reply

I am definitely a procrastinator, when it comes to running. I don’t like doing it in the morning, because, let’s just face it, I am NOT a morning person. Then, it’s often difficult when I get home from work, because I teach music, and see about 700 kids every week. By the time I get home from a day a work, I am exhausted. I also like to be outside a lot more than on the treadmill, and so I definitely wish it would warm up!

My favorite shoes are the Brooks PureFlow!! I have the black/pink pair, and am getting ready to order the PureFlow2! I can’t wait to get them in! My feet feel so much more comfortable in my PureFlows the any other shoe I have ever worn!! :-)

I’m such a procrastinator that I’ve actually convinced myself it’s not procrastinating if it’s cold out… don’t ask. There’s no explanation. It’s just not.
