I am kind of in love with trail racing.

This morning’s trail race was a blast.  It was the most beautiful race I have ever done… come visit me here and I will take you on the trail (along with ice cream before and after).

Brooke has been trying to steal my gift card ever since I got it.  I finished in 1:33:54, 2nd place female overall, 9th place overall (men and women) and 1st place in my age group.  I know for a fact that Billy will be carrying me up and down the stairs for the next few days after those hills.

Hope you are having a beautiful Saturday and I will have the full race recap up tomorrow!

Reply

Way to go! Holy smokes!
Random question…I’ve noticed that you almost always have a fruit and a vegetable with all of your meals. I love that! My 2013 goal is to better well rounded in my eating and I love that it looks like a habit for you. Would you say it is? Is it a conscious decision to add those to your meals? If you have any tips for healthy eating like that, I would love to hear it! I really want my kids to grow up eating that way so they don’t have weird food issues like I grew up with. You just seem like you have the balance thing figured out. :) Anyway, any tips would be awesome!

Reply

Nice job! I wish I lived near you so you could help me be a better runner….haha

Haha I live in Virginia but if i ever find myself out on the west coast I definitely hope to!! My roommates and I are doing a half in April in the Shenandoah National Park so we’re hoping it will be scenic too! We’re actually doing some fundraising for it for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and we called ourselves Hokie Runner Girls, hope you don’t mind :)

Reply

Eric asked what my blogger friends name was and I told him and he saw your time in the list. His first words: “damn she’s fast” :) congrats on an awesome run. I saw some if them hills the 1/2 was running and didn’t envy y’all one bit. You rocked that course!!

Reply

HAHAHAHAH That is so nice. I WISH I WOULD HAVE SEEN YOU!!! When are we going for froyo!?!?!

Reply

Woah, you smashed it!! Because of the line for the shuttle bus from the parking lot, I actually missed the start of the half so definitely didn’t have a chance to meet you beforehand (I ended up being the fourth to last person to start), and you finished nearly an hour before me ;) But I did pass you at one point, as I was approaching mile six and you were approaching mile 10 (I think). I wasn’t confident it was you until we were right next to each other and I could see your name on your bib (although I had noticed your shoes first!) and you looked like you were in the ZONE.

I absolutely LOVED the race! SO unbelievably gorgeous! The first loop seemed to go by pretty quickly, though this was probably partially due to the barage of 10k-ers around me. I snapped a couple photos on the go, including this one, which is my fave: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/MsS6drXltR7TzFM9rjPRLOympSeSw025jeTWF9hFVwc?feat=directlink

Despite my hurried late start to the race, I hit my two goals: 1. to not allow myself to become negative during the race and 2. finish in about 2.5 hours (my PR is 2:18 on the road, but I’m crazy unfit at the moment; I managed to finish in 2:29:35, which I’m thrilled with!). And my brother (who I was visiting in the area and took me to the race), managed to come across that hill at the end of the loop at the same time I got there on my first go-round, which was a great perk!

I found these photos of you when looking for my own:

And I was a big fan of the post-race food…especially the lady who kept encouraging my brother and I to take cake cups!
