The Necessary Evil

Billy got me the Bob Harper yoga DVD to celebrate it almost being my birthday month.  As you can tell it was a little too early for Brooker.

Whenever I wear this sweatshirt (everyday) she holds on tight to that drawstring.

I decided to listen to all of your comments the other day about the importance of cross-training and hit up the elliptical (the necessary evil) for the first time in 2 months.

I can spend ridiculous amounts of time on the treadmill (I am embarrassed about how many 20+ milers I have done on that thing) and never get bored but I don’t know what it is about that elliptical that makes me go crazy.  To make time go by a little faster I set it on a 12 (I think) and did 30 seconds sprinting followed by 30 seconds at a medium effort for a total of 30 minutes.

I went at a time that I knew I would have the whole gym to myself so that Brooke could just hang out next to me and read.  My purple PureFlows have too many running miles on them to keep running in them but they were perfect for the elliptical.

I also did the first 30 minutes of Bob’s yoga DVD and I am in love with it.  These downward dog pushups almost made me cry.  I love Bob.

My favorite kind of package arrived this morning.  Food.  So far I have tried the raspberry with dark chocolate chips and the caramel with pineapple chunks and they are both incredible but I did like the raspberry one better.  I had them (you don’t eat two yogurts at a time?) with my chicken and veggie salad.

The snack of the day award goes to these Wheat Thins that my FIL gave us from his work.

Is your birthday month February?! If so, MINE TOOOO!

We have the SAME feelings on the elliptical – I can’t stand it. It is hard for me and mindblowingly boring. I hit up my at-home elliptical today for the first time today in weeeks and weeks!
Still don’t like it. ha!

It is… on the 13th! When is yours?!?!

The 5th!! :D turning 25..mid 20s crisis in full-blown effect!! lol

Reply

HAPPY ALMOST BIRTHDAY!!! 25 was one of my favorite years!

Reply

I agree the elliptical is evil! It’s so hard to stay on that thing! Last cross training I did was spin. Or walking if that counts? I would definitely like a good yoga DVD! Any ones you recommend? Currently my favorite yogurt flavor is dannon pineapple! Have a great night :-)

Reply

HEY GORGEOUS! I am missing a good spin class. Try the Bob Harper one.. I am currently obsessed!

Reply

I have some Jillian DVDs that I absolutely LOVE! Maybe I’ll have to give Bob’s a chance! Keep it in the Biggest Loser family :)

Reply

I really wish that Dolvett had a DVD:)

Reply

My favorite flavors of yogurt are passion fruit and pineapple. I really like all tropical fruit flavors :) I don’t keep track of the miles on my shoes. I can tell when its time to replace them by how they feel!

Reply

I can’t stand the elliptical. I did it for the first time in a year this past weekend and it was terrible. My feet always fall asleep!

I usually put about 400 miles on my sneakers.

Reply

I usually run ~300-350/pair, but I think I need to start pushing them a little further because they’re getting $$$!!

Reply

I put about 350 – 400 on my shoes although a lot of the time I lose track so I pay attention to the bottoms and when they get worn down.

I used to love the elliptical, but now I can’t stand it since I’ve started running more. I have to have some good trashy magazines to read to keep me entertained on the elliptical

Reply

I do not like the elliptical! It hurts my calves something fierce. Caramel with pineapple sounds interesting.

Reply

I could go either way with the elliptical.
Usually I can get about 400ish miles on my shoes. Once my knees start aching, it’s game over.
I did some strength training yesterday. Oh boy are my muscles & eyelashes protesting today! Guess it’s a good thing I like pain.

Reply

Also cannot stand the Elliptical! Just can’t pinpoint it!! I will do the stair machine ebfore I go on the elliptical. I adore Chobani Blueberry greek yogurt! nom nom nom.

Reply

I MISS THE STAIR MACHINE so bad… that thing kicks my butt!

Reply

the elliptical slowly became my friend while i was injured.. however i still wouldn’t say its my best friend.

I HAVE TO TRY THOSE WHEAT THINS

aaaaand feb is ALSO my bday month!

Reply

i cant STAND elliptical!! 2 minutes on it feels like 3 hours and immediately get very figgety (real word?) on it. i used to do biggest looser weight loss yoga and i loved it! i keep debating getting jillian’s yoga work out! for cross training i do yoga and spin (are those even considered to be cross training??). each day i promise myself i will do planks but never get around to it. but i do pushups and sit ups every day…and if i skip a day i have to make up that day’s push ups with today’s push ups. i can also competitively each chocolate covered raisins and chocolate chip cookies…but there are no races for that and that makes me sad! i think i would like that chobani caramel/pineapple yogurt better if it was an entire cup filled with JUST caramel.

Reply

eat…not each.

Reply

hahahaha I bet I could beat you in that eating contest!

Reply

I generally buy new shoes about twice a year. I might have to more often now that I’ve bumped up the miles. I saw those little Chobani yogurts on another blog. I have got to try them! My favorite yogurts are Chobani strawberry and Chobani blueberry. Yum! I just finished a strawberry. I always use my finger to wipe out every last bit of yogurt. I should probably get a little spatula. :)

Reply

Does frozen yogurt count??? :)
I LOVE frozen yogurt…mint and chocolate. Yumm
I do like the trader joe’s greek strawberry one though.

Reply

That Bob DVD is awesome. I love every single one Jillian Michaels has ever done. And I need to go get those Chobani bites immediately. Brooke is too beautiful for words!

Reply

Ive been wanting to try the new coffee chobani bites but I cant find it anywhere!!

Reply

I usually go 450-500 miles. I track them on DailyMile gear.

I elliptical at home. I don’t mind it too much since it’s parked in front of the TV in our family room. :-)

I have about 6 or 7 workout DVDs. Would love to get Jillian Michael’s!

Reply

I LOVE the elliptical!!!! With my bad knees (from my dance days), the elliptical is the only thing I can really do at the gym. In fact, I have a date with the elliptical this weekend (tying to get back into shape).

Reply

I am so happy that the elliptical works so well with your knees! Keep it up Lauren!

Reply

YAY for February Birthdays :)

I haven’t really tracked miles on my shoes for a long time, but I can tell when they are starting to wear out and I’ll go “o yeah I need new shoes.”

Last XT was Jillian Micheals’ Ripped in 30 Days. And some planks and pushups. I don’t like the elliptical. I find it hard to get a good workout because I’m just too lazy on it.

I have a Pure Barre workout video I just got and I really enjoy it—low impact, but effective. I’ll do Jillian Micheals sometimes and I have a 10 minute solution pilates video that I’ll do occasionally. I’m not very consistent with videos, just running.

I think raspberry is my favorite—but really I’m not picky.

Reply

I hate the elliptical but it’s because it HURTS my knees. I hate the dreadmill almost as much although I don’t mind walking up it. That’s kinda fun, actually. I don’t know how you do it! Brooke already reading books? What a smartie pants ;)

Reply

I strongly dislike the elliptical. When I initially lost weight, it was my go to exercise & I spend hours upon hours on it. Now that I run & spin I just can’t stomach it. I seek out every possible alternative on cross training days.

Reply

Almost all of my workouts are cross-training right now since I’m on break from dance – I’m trying to add in running but I get shin splints so easily:(
I love the elliptical (low impact perfection!) but I don’t like workout dvds, I don’t know why, I just can’t get into them. Reading about all the ones you do though is making me want to try again!

Reply

I want to try that Yoga DVD and that yogurt sounds so yummy! I have the 30 day shred with Jillian And that leaves my arms feeling like Jello!

Reply

Oooh, the new Bob Harper DVD! I want to get it bad! So I’m guessing the DVD is good then? I’m always looking for new ones. For some reason I just can’t stand the elliptical. I used to have one, and now I can’t stand it. I could spin on the bike for hours though. Love it.

Reply

I need to try those Wheat Thins! They sound delicious!

I love Bob’s Yoga, it is one of my fav Yoga DVD’s. I’ve done a few rounds of P90X and prefer Bob’s Yoga to the 90 minute P90X Yoga!

Reply

Your right, it is hard to cross-train. I find routine important, so I typically do the same thing. In the past I ran daily or did yoga daily. So now I do this, I run 2x a week, 2x a week on elliptical at the highest incline for most of the workout, and 2x a week weights. I feel the same as you about the elliptical so if it’s not my routine I won’t do it. So maybe make it your normal schedule so you won’t go as long without doing it. I’m doing this so I build muscle with the weights, get my runs each week and I won’t lose endurance with the elliptical. Plus on that incline I feel it works my backside real good! :) Those yogurts look yum and I love your purple Brooks.

Reply

I have been wanting to get the Bob Harper DVD’s and given your review of the yoga, I think I will pick that one up first. I am kind of getting bored with the Jillian Michaels yoga. I must be on the lookout for the chobani bites. the raspberry chocolate sounds like it could be a winner.

Reply

I absolutely dread the elliptical.. I would rather do anything else! I’m a big fan of incline walking on non running days! And circuit workouts :)

Reply

Those yogurts look amazing. Raspberry + chocolate?? YUM!!

The elliptical makes me nuts, too. I was going to say it’s too repetitious but that’s not it because so is running and stairstepping, and I’m fine w/ both of those. Maybe it’s too much mental stress because you have to use your arms and legs at the same time.

Reply

I have to make myself crosstrain also. Right now I’m doing a “Full Body Fitness clase 3 times a week to get that in but (only Because they had a Groupon)!!

Chocolate Chunk Yogurt!!! All the way!

Reply

I just found your site. I don’t know how it took me this long. Great site. And WOW! You are something else. Juggling it all and doing it well. I have to do the yoga. Of course I have said that for two years now and the run always wins out.

Reply

I try to cross train with swimming and cycling, but have been doing a hell of a lot of yoga lately. We have an elliptical at home and I have used it once. I think I need to use it more in the morning when it’s too cold and dark for me to run.

i have too many workout dvds. i have event tried the last 2 sets I bought. whoops.

i dunno my favorite yogurt flavor. we should go to Yogurtland so I can find out :)

Reply

Again with the Chobani! I’m already addicted to the flavors they currently have.
I’m gonna need a separate refrigerator just for yogurt. :-)
I’m glad that these are good though, I saw them at Target last week and was wondering if they be.
Now I know, thanks!

Reply

Is this the Yoga for Warrior DVD by Bob? I’ve seen this and definitely wondered if it was good. Way to cross train!!

Reply

I actually don’t own any workout DVD’s! Maybe one day when I have space/ a yoga mat :D. I’m okay with the elliptical but definitely prefer running. And I’m a vanilla yogurt girl, all the way (darn between my last Cheerios comment and this vanilla yogurt thing I’m realizing my food choices can be really boring?!?)

Reply

I actually love the elliptical and miss it terribly. I had one for years but the foot pad broke and I moved and somehow I don’t have it anymore. Booooo. I have a TM and use it a lot. It is a lot less painful for me than the TM. I have neuropathy on my left side/foot so I can take the motion better.

Can’t wait to try those new yogurt flavors- currently, I love Chobani pineapple and blueberry.

Reply

i just bought the raspberry/dark chocolate flavor the other day and love it! might have to try the pineapple next!

Reply

I HATE the elliptical. And it is not an understatement. It is so dang boring. The step mill is like the sweat machine, but I love it! I did PiYo this morning (class at the gym that is a mix between pilates and yoga) and I love it.

I own A LOT of work out dvds. I 8 of Jillians, 2 of Bob’s, 3 of Jackie Warners, The Slim in 6 series, p90x and Rushfit. Let me know if you need any reviews. lol.

I don’t keep track of my miles. (I know. I think I am the only person) But I guess around 500 miles. I can usually just tell when I need a new pair, and then my running shoes also retire to the cross training shoe.

Chobani apple cinnamon. But I still need to try those 2 new flavors, so it could change ;)

I am going to come and still that Brooke from you. You should be worried.

Reply

I usually get 300-375 miles out of a pair of shoes…I never have problems with my knees so when my knees start to ache around that mileage in a shoe I know it’s time to get a new pair!
I actually JUST got that exact pair of PureFlows (even in purple) in the mail and am trying them out either tomorrow or Friday, can’t wait! Running in new shoes is the best :)

Reply

Janae, i think thats great that you are adding strength training and the eliptical to your workouts! Running is great, but i also agree that it can be tough on your body and if you counteract the running with other excercises, it will probably just make you that much better! Honestly though, Great job for running 20+ MILES on a treadmill! I could never do that let alone more than 5. Thats awesome!!!!!!!!

Reply

I took a barre method class and a pilates class for some cross-training. I love the elliptical; however, I despise the treadmill and would much rather run outdoors. I wish I wouldn’t get so bored running on the treadmill. I don’t know how you manage to stay on it for more than 5 miles. I wish I could.
I don’t have any workout DVDs, although I have borrowed my roommate’s Mari Winsor pilates DVD before and it was a pretty decent workout.
Favorite yogurt flavor has to be the Chobani strawberry banana.

FAVORITE YOGURT FLAVOR?

Reply

I have the Insanity and P90X DVDs. I would love to try the Physique 57 (or whatever it is) and Barre3 videos.
I usually put about 500 miles on my shoes before I am forced to get new ones.

Reply

I have that DVD also – I actually have the whole Inside Out Method DVD set and I love all four of them. They’re on sale at Bob Harpers website $3.99 each or $14.99 for all four, which is what I did. Totally worth it! That is the most intense yoga I’ve ever done – defenitely not a slow, find your zen type…

Reply

I will have to try that DVD! I need some new cross training videos.

My last cross training was spinning on the bike trainer. I need to start taking it out on the roads again, but it’s so much easier to just do on the trainer while watching guilt free TV.

Reply

I put about 500 ~ on a pair of shoes.

Yoga is always my cross-training. When I use the elliptical (or use to use) I’d do intervals and be sweating, but the second I stopped I’d feel like I hadn’t done anything. Whereas when I run for an hour and alter my pace I feel wasted by the time I’m done.

I want(ed) the Nike Kinect DVD, but I recently downloaded the Nike Training Club app and it may eliminate my need for the DVD. It’s a really cool FREE app, check it out. Do you feel like the yoga dvd you got has a lot of variety? A pet peeve is dvd’s that have like 1 thing you can do and I get bored easily.

No yogurt for me since giving up dairy, but those look amazing. I haven’t missed yogurt until right now.

Reply

500 or so. Takes me a while to get there.
I did the elliptical on Monday. HATE it.
Insanity looks like fun.
I don’t eat yogurt.

Gah, does that beautiful baby ever cry? I swear, she is always full of smiles and love. Can not wait to get my Cho package! I’ve tried them all at my last food expo and loved them, but I’ve been holding off on buying them until I go through my shipment.

Reply

I like the elliptical, I can’t stand running on the dreadmill. Usually can’t do more than 3 miles at a time. I DO NOT see how you run that long on it. My favorite DVD is one I got from weight watchers-it’s a cardio/stretching/yoga combo. I LOVE it. Downward dog is my favorite position, not sure how you do a push-up from that position? I think I would cry too!

Reply

I just tried the raspberry with chocolate chunks for the first time today, and I loved it! I think I still have to go with Apple Cinnamon for my favorite flavor though :)

Reply

I like the elliptical–a great way to get some exercise & read at the same time! I haven’t done much on it lately though! I too like the treadmill to do a bunch of things on–read/watch movies/etc.

Those wheat thins do sound kinda good!

Reply

I love these posts bc I made it my new year’s resolution to do more cross-training. I do kettlebell workouts and recently joined Equinox for their classes. Trying to get into spinning too! It’s hard because running is still my favorite thing to do.

Reply

I love Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown so I really want to try Bob Harpers! BROOKE IS SUCH A HAPPY BABY! And my favorite Chobani is probably the new pear flavor or the Vanilla Chocolate Chunk. I have a current obsession with figs though so I need to get my hands on the fig +orange zest!

Have a great day, Janae!

Reply

When I first started being healthy and active, I lived on the elliptical for at LEAST an hour a few times a week. Now I’m hardly ever on it. I like using my two little legs and running outside. I give you props for using the treadmill.. i can’t do it. I probably put TOO many miles on my running shoes before I change them out.. sometimes they get so bad that I can’t even wear them as walking shoes without getting shin splints. I don’t do that anymore. Favorite yogurt flavor: Chobani with pomegranate or Vanilla Bean Greek yogurt.

happy almost birthday month! p.s. brooke is SO stinking cute and those happy faces make it hard to believe that there’s an unhappy bone ever in her body.

Cross training? What’s that?!? :)

I am a February birthday gal too! Actually I am pretty sure it is Toronto Runner that I share a bday with.

Reply

I only feel like commenting about food today (I’m sure you can relate :) )… those zesty salsa Wheat Things are so good!! Have you had them before? What do you think?

Favorite yogurt flavor- Lemon Pie Yoplait yogurt

Reply

Oh the dreaded elliptical – definitely not a fan… I swear it has the magical ability to stop time. And birthday month?! Why wasn’t I aware of such a thing? I’ve been pushing my luck and celebrating birthday week, but month sounds much more appealing. Too bad mine just ended. Sad face!

Reply

Ick, I detest the elliptical, but when injuries rear their ugly head it sure beats nothing!
Do you like Jillian’s DVDs or Bob’s better? I’d love to read a comparison of the two!

Reply

I hate the elliptical too. Last cross training I did was rowing, my fav cross training activity! In pretty basic with yogurt: plain with honey.

Reply

OMG!!! Love ALL (have all) of Bob’s Warrior DVD’s. The yoga one is awesome, but the kettlebell one will kick your butt. If you can make it through the first 5 minutes, you can probably do the whole thing. Jillian has awful form for someone who trains, so I don’t have/follow any of her DVD’s.

Chiobani bites are great. I have the raspberry and the coffee with chocolate. I haven’t been lucky enough to find the pineapple/caramel yet, though. I’m still looking. I’ll try Whole Foods since Fresh Market only had the other 2 flavors. But, I’m with you on the blood orange Chiobani. That’s frickin awesome for breakfast.

Reply

Oo! I’ve been wanting to get a yoga dvd because I’ve never done yoga and want to see what it’s all about. Perhaps I’ll check out the Bob Harper variety…

Reply

I pout the whole time I’m on the Elliptical. I know how good it is, but I still pout. My last workout was TRX.
I haven’t found the perfect shoes yet. Well, ones that don’t aggravate my PF. That and I love new shoes, I only get to about 250 miles.
I have a Jillian Micheal’s Yoga DVD that I do up at work when I can’t run. It kicks my butt.

Reply

I LOVE my latest DVD’s for days when I need a little extra in the evening. I am currently using the Jillian 30 day shred (costco has it for $7 right now! , Biggest Looser Cardio Max is one of the best I have ever done, also really liking Jackie Warners 30 day Fast Start. She does strength pyramids that are very hard:) Also…one more…Bob Harpers Total Body Hardest Workout Ever…is the best! ok I think I’m done now…

Also, I’m looking to rent a place in your neck of the woods for my kiddos and I for about a month in the summer just to play and holiday…any suggestions?

The Chobani coffee + dark chocolate is amazing!

Reply

I’m not an elliptical fan. At all.

I have soooo many workout dvds! Some of my favorites are Insanity, Chalean Extreme (what I’m doing now), and all the JM ones.

I recently found this yogurt called Noosa, and the honey flavor tastes like cheesecake!

Reply

When I first started working out I LOVED the elliptical. It was all I did. And then once I started running it became death by gym. True story.

Reply

Elliptical: Ugh. But I’ll do it (or recommend it) for interval work for people who need something gentler on their bodies. If I just want a slow aerobic kick, I’ll sit on the stationary bike. I could do that for hours, too. Just not the elliptical.

Last cross training was last night’s spin-yoga double header. Love.

I have a few Billy Blanks DVDs (remember him?), a few Jillian (Shreds), and some Power yoga. All good substitutes for the gym/running, if necessary.

CHERRY YOGURT!

Reply

Oh man I really want Bob’s Yoga DVD, it’s the only one I don’t have! I’m glad to see that you like it!

Reply

You amaze me with your treadmill running! I can’t even imagine running 20 miles on one! Not totally sure how many miles I put on a pair of shoes because in my quest to find the *perfect* pair, I’m constantly rotating :) but I’d guess around 350-400. I cross train using the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred dvd and Jackie Warner One on One dvd. Both kick my butt!

I just love Jillian!!! I didn’t know Bob had dvds! I will have to check it out because I kind of have a crush on Bob…..

I love when your posts are about what i’m thinking about! As i was starting my Jillian DVD today i was thinking that i should try out a Bob Harper DVD (to further my Biggest looser obsession.) I love his yoga… It is tough! I am really wanting to try his other videos too!

I totally hate the elliptical, too. I’d rather use the stationary bike than the elliptical any day. Yoga is my main form of cross training, and I love how my running benefits from my yoga. I generally retire my shoes when they have around 350 miles or so on them, or whenever my knees start to hurt when I run in them.

Reply

Oh that chocolate raspberry Chobani is so so so good! I’ll have to keep my eye out for the pineapple now.

I’m not a huge fan of th elliptical, but I like variety so cross training is fun to me. I just got home from playing soccer which I only half-count as cross training because it’s just running… with a ball!

My fave yogurt flavor is vanilla but those new Cho flavors sound awesome!

Happy almost birthday!
I’m not an elliptical fan. At. All. I feel really funny when I’m on it. I feel like I’m not doing it right or something.
I’ve been loving yoga lately. There’s a great instructor that has 3 classes a week. Last week I made it to all three and this week I’ll be at two!

Crosstraining!!!! I love it, just got a bike to help me with it in fact. But my boyfriend continually rails on me for hating it. Go figure.

As far as yogurt, I’m a plain with toppings person myself. You HAVE to try it with dates/figs and honey. I could live off of that!

Reply

Oh how I love Bob!!! That yoga dvd is one of my ultimate favorites!!
I share your feelings about the elliptical…I think it’s hard and it kicks my butt everytime I go on it!!

Reply

I don’t know how you run on the treadmill!!! I have tried…but I kinda want to shoot myself when I’m on that thing. I don’t really like ellipticals either. But for some reason…I love spin bikes. Like I feel so comfortable when I’m on a spin bike. I can easily bike 10 miles—but one mile on the treadmill is like torture. Is there a way to make the treadmill more bearable?

Reply

Cover over the numbers with a towel and put some pumping music on – much more tolerable that way.

Reply

Elliptical makes my feet go numb for some reason but I prefer that over any other cardio machine. I can’t stand running on the treadmill but I’ll do it just to change things up.

Reply

I love Bob’s yoga DVD! I also like his Pure Strength one-whew tough! I have a few if Jillian’s & Jackie Warner’s that I use as well. Strength training is so important.

I have an elliptical & although super boring( thank goodness for DVR) it is a great cross training option & has helped me tremendously during injury recovery.

Those Chobani bites looked so good. I love their black cherry flavor & my kids are obsessed with vanilla chocolate chunk. I bet they would love the new flavors.

Not sure how many miles I put on my shoes but I can tell when it’s time for a new pair. My legs always start to ache at night. :(

Reply

Oh & I have a February birthday too!

400-450 is my max on shoes. The elliptical is the only other form of cross training I do besides some pilates and core work. Hoping to get into biking more this summer.
I have a ton of Jillian DVD’s and love them all. Her new ab workout is pretty decent, although I’m only doing level one right now.
Blueberry yogurt. YUM!

When I first got into running I never thought about changing shoes! {Paid for it . . . injury!!!} Right now I think I have around 300.

Its awesome that your gym lets you bring Brooke! My gym chain has a free day care at some of the locations, which I think is really nice, never used it seeing as I’m still a babe myself. When it comes to running shoes my typical MO is when I start to blister /they rub me funny I buy a new pair and start rotating them. I typically don’t trash a shoe unless I have worn it in a tough mudder and ruined them. One of my most comfortable pair of distance shoes are a pair of reebok run tones I got a few years ago (pre running), they are really heavy though so they only come out if everything hurts and I need a smooth ride!

I lift weights / do body weight circuit training 2 – 3x a week, no elliptical for this girl, I feel like an uncoordinated baby giraffe on those things.

Reply

I try to do elliptical once/week. I set it on QuickStart (no tension) and just go as fast as I can, pumping my arms without the handles, like I’m actually running. Still not the same, but closer to a sprint session at spin class than a long, daunting elliptical climb session…

Reply

<3 the elliptical – do half going backwards and then the last half forward. Then I feel like I'm working more muscle groups (warning – do the backwards 1st). I'm trying to keep track of my mileage so I switch out when I get to 500 miles (I can probably go a little longer since I'm "light"). That's why I'm saving my pretty pink ones for races only <– love them and don't want to wear them out….
OMGoodness – those Wheat Thins look awesome! I love any kind of spicy chip. I don't think they sell those around here. Can you send me some? ;-)
Brooke looks like the happiest baby on earth. She must really love watching you sweat.

Reply

I actually love the elliptical. It is so much easier on my joints and I always work up a good sweat on it. I sometimes miss it when I have a run scheduled instead of cross training. I usually do Boot Camp for my cross training activity because I love burpees and planks so much…not.

I LOOOOVE those Wheat Thins. I have finished an entire box in one sitting before. That’s why I don’t keep them in the house often now. :-(

Ahh I HATE the elliptical. It just feels like I’m pedaling to nowhere. Although I used to hate the treadmill, I’m starting to like it again since it can really let me zone out, even more than a run can. Good for when I’m tired!

For cross-training, I do a lot of things! I like yoga, spinning, and strength-training. I do both lifting (8-15 lb range) and body weight exercises. I don’t really use any DVDs, but I do use Tara Stiles’ Relax Class download, which is the same price as a class at her studio ($15) and is a great hour-long restorative yoga flow.

Yes! Down dog push ups are the best! Something similar but even harder- Divebomber pushups! Hurray for early birthday presents! I love Brooke’s big smile :)

I love the elliptical! I can go for hours on that thing as opposed to the 90 seconds I’m capable of on the treadmill!
I shoot for 350-400 miles out of my shoes but it’s sometimes sooner. I always know when it’s time for a new pair because I get shin splints to remind me– HEY BUY NEW SHOES!!!

I did Insanity today.. not a video person.. so I hate all of the workouts.

20 miles on the treadmill? Did I read that right? Don’t you ever get funky toe nails from running? Mine are screwed up from the treadmill.. for some reason outside running is more kind to my toes..

I’m so boring, my fave yogurt flavor is vanilla greek yogurt. And I add cottage cheese, bananas and strawberries in the mix. Better than ice cream, in my mind. (At least, that’s what I tell myself.. it seems to work!)
