One of my favorite things to see….

Yesterday was kind of a big day for Brooke.  It was her first time going down the slide.  It was also her first time going down the slide 45 times in 10 minutes (this was a great arm workout just in case you were wondering).

We stayed at the park until it was dark and by then we just wanted something quick and easy for dinner so we took all of the leftovers that we had in the fridge out and went to town.  I had a chicken salad.  Even though we have bought Brooke plenty of toys she still chooses her feet over all of them.   Free entertainment.

I had coupons for the first 10 ounces of each yogurt free.  I am so skilled at froyo making that I was able to almost make it exactly weigh 10 ounces.  The lovely worker was kind enough to not charge me for the .3 ounces that I went over.  You too can acquire this skill if you go get froyo twice a week, every week for 4 years.

The assortment of tastebuds.  Billy really has a thing for Nutter Butters.   i always go the classic theme of every crushed candy bar they have and also brownie bites.

We are all packed with the most important things… running shoes and Swedish Fish (my in-laws garage is full of candy and treats because of my FIL’s job).  We are leaving early to drive back home and we are stopping in Santa Barbara, Solvang, Morro Bay, Cambria, Carmel/Monteray and Santa Cruz along the way.   Heads up that you are going to see at least 200 pictures from the day.

Hope you have a great long run/race/workout and eat something extra delicious because that is mandatory on the weekends.

Has anyone ever been to any of the places that we are going today?

Any races this weekend?  What is your long run?

What was the last type of salad that you had?

Green swedish fish or red swedish fish?

-red.

Yogurtland is the best yogurt place ever! I love nutter butter bites too. I haven’t been to any of the places you are going today. Have fun and can’t wait to see the pics!

I never been to California but it looks beautiful. Hopefully oneday I can talk my husband into taking me there.

My run today is 17 miles. I am training for my second full marathon. I have had really crappy runs all week so I am getting nervous about this one today.

Last type of salad was a grilled chicken salad from Chick fil a. They are delicious

Don’t hate me: I have never had Swedish fish before!

Ohhhhh Solvang!!! I LOVE that little town! I have some family there. Best pastry shops on the planet–make sure you stop in one (or two or five…)

If you’re there around a meal time, make sure you go to Succulent Cafe. Two words: homemade bacon.

I’ve been to Monterey! It’s gorgeous there!

I have my last “long run” of marathon training this weekend. The big event is next sunday! Not sure how far I’ll go yet. Somewhere between 6 and 10 miles?

I definitely prefer the red fish!

Reply

I’m so jealous that you guys have Yogurtland! There isn’t ANYWHERE to get froyo near where I live!! So sad!

My ‘long run’ is kind of split up this weekend.. 7 miles today and 10 tomorrow, but the 10 miler is 5 up a mountain to the summit and 5 miles back down. This is my last weekend before marathon training starts again next weekend!!

Omg, I’m excited to see yours pics from Morro Bay!! I was born there (28 years ago) and moved to Hawaii when I was 6 years old…. I love seeing pictures from there!… Have a safe drive… Had a house salad with balsamic vinegarette from a resturant for dinner last night. And gotta be red Swedish fish!..

Reply

I wish my fam had connections to Swedish fish! Brookegoing Down the slide is the cutest. That would be one of my favorite things too.. Besides Froyo

Baby milestones and proud dads are great! I still get excited about both and I have six. I have been to Santa Barbra and that’s it from your list of stops. Thank you for sharing your fun times and running experiences, I appreciate the motivation. I was a runner from elementary school until I had my 4th child and them life just got so busy. I’m glad that 2013 will be the year to get back to one of my lost loves. Safe travels.

Come make me fro yo please- those all look SO yum :)!

Wonderful drive, I’ve got the best picture of Cambria! We hung it up by the front door.

Are you taking PCH all the way up? Wave northward when you hit Newport Beach (we’re off the 57). I’ll be watching for you, thanks ;-)

I’ve never been to any of those places, BUT in 1.5 weeks I’ll be in San Francisco visiting my friend!

Reply

My mom and I visited the Carmel area when we went to San Francisco and Napa Valley several years back. It was beautiful. I just loved that whole area. Enjoy and take lots of pictures!

Swedish Fish are THE BEST. I love the Christmas bags. And how do you find these Yogurtland coupons! We went last night and I tried the new banana-raspberry greek yogurt flavor.

Have fun on your day trip! I have been to San Diego before but that’s it.

Never been to any of them. I am looking forward to the pictures.
No races or running this weekend.
Had a salad bar yesterday but the salad I made was pretty boring.
RED. I only like the red ones.

SOLVANG!! Woo!! My homeland :) you MUST try aebleskivers. Pancake balls topped with powder sugar and jelly?! AMAZING.

Seeing my husband interact with our kids is one of my favorite things too! I swear I fall more in love with him every time. I braved the chilly for Texas weather (39 degrees) to get in my run today and it was awesome. I love running with people who push and inspire me to do more than I would on my own.

It is SOOOO sweet to be able to follow along Brooke’s life progress. She’s a cuuuutie.

I just did 10miles at 7am. I don’t think my legs knew what was going on at that time of day, so I’m about to throw a party for myself! :D

Have a lovely saturday!

That picture of Brooke on the slide is so cute! She’s so tiny :D And if I had cute baby feet like her, I’d want to play with them all the time too. Safe trip, Janae!

Reply

Brooke looks so tiny on the slide!!

I ran a 10k through Central Park this morning. I beat my previous 10k time (this is only my second) by 30 seconds, but it was a much hillier course, so I’m counting it as more!

Reply

My husband proposed in Carmel!!! Earlier that day we got engaged, we spent the day in Monterey biking along Cannery Row :) We also have been to Santa Cruz- gotta go to the boardwalk and walk along the beach! Have a safe trip!

Reply

If you read this in time…just north of Santa Cruz on the 1 is the tiny town of Davenport which has the Davenport Bakery or something like that – you can’t miss it. They do amazing fish n chips (and this is a Brit saying it) and amazing browies!! Go go go!!!

Reply

I have an aunt and cousins that live in San Jose and they have a beach house in Santa Cruz – which they are nice enough to let us stay at for vacations. So I have been there, but I would really like to see those other places.

I am alwasy so impressed with your correct weighing of fro yo skills. Even though I get fro yo probably just as often, I am not good at that. I think it is because I just get distracted with all that I want to put into that cup and my stomach is bigger than my eyes. And Billy’s love for Nutter Butters is completely justifiable. Delicious.

I am hoping to work out today. I think my fever is finally gone, my body doesn’t ache, but I am left with a runny nose and a cough. Ross stopped my from woking out yesterday. Saying something about my body needing rest (lame) but I would like to do at least SOMETHING today.

I had Thai chicken crunch salad yesterday for lunch. I made it the other night for dinner and have been having the left overs. It is SO yummy. You should make it: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2012/06/thai-crunch-chicken-salad/

Red swedish fish all the way. Have so much fun today. Hey that rhymed :)

Ohh, Brooke is sooo teeny! What a little munchkin. She’s so cute!

I’m from San Luis Obispo!! You will drive right through it before you hit Morro Bay. If you have time, you should walk around the downtown. It’s the cutest and there’s also awesome froyo at Bali’s :). The two main streets are Higuera and Marsh, which are one-way streets going in opposite directions. There’s the mission, Bubble Gum Alley, and lots of fun stores to pop into. Hopefully you have a few minutes to check it out, and email me if you have any questions!

We used to live in Monterey (in the Air Force), but I always LOVED Carmel. We met in Monterey, and I took my then boyfriend now husband hiking and exploring all over Big Sur and the Carmel valley. I miss it so much. There was SO much to do in California. Nebraska is a great big dud of a state as far as I’m concerned. (The whole midwest falls into this category.)

I love the bright pink gym bag! What kind is it? Have a great drive!

Waiting for the 200 pictures.

Yay! Isn’t the California coast the best? I have lived here my whole life and don’t get sick of it. I am particularly partial to the section of highway one between Santa Cruz and San Francisco but that’s probably because it’s how I drive to get to my parents and best friend:) Enjoy your road trip and stop for delicious foods. I’ll wave at you in Santa Cruz as you go by!

Reply

Have fun stopping at all the sights on the way home. Santa Barbara is so beautiful you will want to move there! Try stopping by Half Moon Bay too (south of SanFran) it is so artsy fartsy and fun.

Reply

If you stop in Half Moon Bay (though I think it’s North on San Jose so maybe not this trip) go to Sam’s Chowder House and eat clam chowder it’s so good.

Reply

Oooopppsss……Im not the best with directions just ask my husband :) Next time I go Sam’s sounds great!

Reply

Whoops I hope that didn’t come out rude! But you should go to Sam’s, it’s the only place in the world I will spend $22 on a sandwich. The lobster roll with drawn butter is outstanding!

Reply

Not at all :) I got a good laugh at myself. Now I am totally craving a lobster roll:) I really appreciate your suggestion :)

Have a great road trip! I think we drove through Santa Clara on our quick Cali trip ~5 yrs ago. We drove along the coast for a few hours and was surprised by the amazing landscape. We have some great pics of our oldest son on that trip.

Running this weekend to make sure I get my #5byth5th in!

Reply

Red Swedish fish all the way! My long run today is 6 miles. I’m not feeling too hot so we’ll see how it goes. Sounds like a fun road trip!!

Reply

Red Swedish Fish! What are green Swedish Fish?! Those sound kinda gross.

Santa Cruz = My hometown.

Delicious eats are Gayle’s Bakery, The Silver Spur for Breakfast, Linda SeaBreeze for Breakfast, Tacos Morenos, and The Pacific Cookie Company Cookie OUTLET. <—you will love the cookie outlet.

I love the picture with Brooke on the slide! So cute!
My longest run was a half marathon, and it was not intentional…I had run too far from home before I noticed it. Then I had to run back home. My usual runs are 7 miles, but I want to get longer runs in from now on.

Reply

I did a work trip to Monterey when I was in the middle of marathon training one year and did the most gorgeous run of my life along the coast from town down through the golf course (by the “lone pine”). I could run there forever–so beautiful and it smells SO GOOD! Have a wonderful drive!

Reply

You’re passing through my hometown! (Solvang – and Solvang Bakery is the best one in town) I know it’s a little out of the way, but if you’re passing through Cayucos (very close to Morro Bay) you MUST go to the Brown Butter Cookie Company. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve traveled an hour and a half just to get my hands on one! Have a fun and safe trip home!

Reply

Carmel/Monteray is beautiful! You’re going to love it there.

Reply

Oh Cambria! I am so jealous. Probably my absolute favorite place in the world. I grew up going on vacations there every year and even ended up having my wedding at the Cambria Pines Lodge. It is the best little town in the world. I ran across the ranch land one morning with the ocean breaking on the rocks on one side and snow-capped mountains in the distance the other direction and it was the best run ever. I also love Linn’s Fruit Bin. The memories!!

Reply

I live in SB :) it is SO beautiful!!! I am from nor cal but now I don’t think I can ever leave Santa Barbara I love it so much. If you go to State Street there is a Yogurtland, plus a million other stores and restaurants, if you are feeling the withdrawal symptoms ;)

Reply

I live in SB! Too bad you didn’t come early enough for running group! Enjoy :)

Reply

You are going to love the drive up Highway One. It’s breathtaking! Take your time and enjoy it. Santa Barbara is such a cute city. In Solvang there is a cute pancake restaurant called Paula’s, if I remember correctly. Delicious! Can’t wait to see your pictures.

Green swedish fish, hands down. Green for almost any candy!

Reply

I am having the itch for a road trip! You would think after driving 1900 miles three different times in less a month in the summer would have cured that. Guess not!

Reply

I’ve been to Carmel with my momma (so beautiful!) and red Swedish fish all the way :)

Reply

they sell bags of just red and green swedish fish? those are my favorite colors!!! i hate the yellow in the multipacks so i avoid them. envious of your fish stash.

Safe travels! Hope you are having an amazing day!

Hey! Random… I was just wondering if you ever read the book ‘The Long Run’ by Matt Long?! I know you read TONSSS of running books and you’re interested in triathlons/Iron Mans so if you haven’t read it, you DEFINITELY need to! I just read it this past week while on a family vacation and I teared up just from reading the foreword. Deff a very inspirational book!! :)

I just moved to Pacific Grove! We just love it here. If you ever come back to visit, I would love to go for a run with you. I live 1/2 mile away from the rec trail that runs along the coast. Enjoy your visit!

Been to all of those amazing places…a perfect road trip!
Born and raised and still livin the dream in Santa Barbara, what did you guys do in my beloved hometown?

Reply

OH, don’t hate me but please think twice about putting Little Brooke in a Bumbo that is elevated (on a table or counter). You’re only supposed to use them on the ground, not on any elevated surface. There have been many incidents of babies falling off tables and counters. Hopefully this isn’t offensive. I’m a HUGE Safety Sam.

Reply

I did not know that! Thank you so much! We will not do that again!

Reply

I went on a great run and then cancelled it out with an entire bag of popcorn smothered in butter at the movie theater!

Hope you had a great exploration day!! I bet you have some beautiful captures to show for it!

Reply

Red of course! I didn’t know they even made green but… I’ll stick with red. I finished the longest run I’ve ever ran this weekend- 14 miles. I felt it yesterday in my legs pretty bad but I think I’ll be okay today! 8 hours of waitressing today so hopefully I make it!
