My favorite type of Two-A-Day.

I am almost positive that if you read any blogs written by people that live in Utah or you you have talked to anybody that lives there then you have heard about the fact that the first ever TRADER JOE’S in Utah finally opened!

Screen Shot 2012 12 05 at 5 14 10 PMWe had heard from people that it has been so crazy busy there that everything was selling out and that the shelves were empty. We called to see when the best time to come in is so that we can buy one of everything and it is this morning.  We are driving the 40 minutes to get there first thing this morning and then I will go for a run after.

My mom has never been to Trader Joe’s, this is going to be a life-changing day for her.  I cannot wait to take her on a tour of the entire store and point out the best things there.

————————————————————————–

Random information that you didn’t really need to know:

IMG 6614

During the winter months there are usually a few deer in my parents’ yard every day.  My mom really loves it when they eat all of her plants.

For dinner last night we had my mom’s meatloaf (which for some crazy reason I didn’t like during high school (I was quite rebellious back then) but absolutely love now) with mashed potatoes and peas.  I also had to include Brooke’s cute little rolls and knee socks (her pants got some stains on them;) in the picture.

IMG 6617

This did in fact happen twice in one day but I have my reasonings.  1.  My cousin and I wanted to hang out and we both love ice cream.  2.  I have free coupons that I NEED to use before I leave.  3.  Nothing is better than talking to one of your bestest friends in the whole world over a cup of cold froyo.  We were there for 2.5 hours.  Best Two-A-Day ever.

IMG 6621

For your viewing entertainment:  Brooke’s first night of real rolling over (she did it once a few weeks ago but I think it was a fluke because she was laying on a tilted surface and gravity rolled her over).  Tummy time for babies is like a marathon for us.  Just notice the look in her face… girlfriend is using every fiber in her being to get rolled over.  I am very proud of my little fighter.  (Watch on mute if you prefer not to hear me yelling my excitement).

———————————————————————-

If you could choose just one store to be so close to you that you could walk to it, what would it be?

-Since I made up the game I can choose two, Trader Joe’s and Yogurtland.

What was a food that you HATED in high school (or younger) but now you love?

What wild animals do you have near where you live?

What is something that you think I NEED to buy at TJ’s for my mom to experience?

Yay for Trader Joe’s- it truly is life changing! :)

I used to hate chocolate when I was little- my mom told me I used to pick the chocolate chips out of cookies! Now I eat chocolate for breakfast! :)

AHH yay so glad they have a TJs there now. They recently opened one by my parents too and I can’t wait to show them the wonders of that store. I’d have to say thats the one I’d want within walking distance of me too, right now its a big of a trek with all my bags. Oh and I’d also like a David’s Tea because its my recent addiction :)

YAY for Brooke rolling!! So cute!

LaRosa’s – a pizzeria from my hometown in Cincinnati

Yogurt – hated it, but now LOVE

In our yard in NH, we have deer, fox, porcupines, and something called fisher cats (I hear they are nasty mean, but I’ve never seen one personally)

Go Brooke! Girlfriend is growing too fast ;-) slow down! At first looking at your dinner pic I swore she was wearing compression socks. I wouldn’t put it past you haha. I agree TJ we only have one here in Houston and its an hr away. Vegetables! Used to hate them. There are the cutest baby foxes I have ever seen now that they’re doing construction in the area. I want one as a pet. Get her that cookie butter :-) yum.

Love your sweet little Brooke’s roll over! She is a doll!
I woul love a Trader Joes & Barnes & Noble within walking distance.
I used to hate tomatoes, but now love them!
We have deer, squirrels, and armadillos in our yard in Texas. Drives our dog crazy!
You have to get the ready made bruschetta at Trader Joes with some yummy bread to dip it in. I could eat the whole container by myself!

Your moms shopping experience will never be the same. Best grocery store for real!
Congrats on yummy time!! Adorable video

We have TJ’s here, but it’s so far away that it’s like we don’t have one. I think I’ve been once.

Yay for Brooke! That video is so freaking cute.

I used to HATE bananas and now eat one a day. I was so young and stupid before. I would love to live walking distance to a Trader Joes. I have only been once (they are not very popular in FL) but we are getting one in JANUARY! It won’t be walking distance but it will be within 15min driving distance. We have geese in our neighborhood adn I love them!

Reply

I would walk 500 miles to a Target! But TJ’s Organic Mayo (full fat) is the best mayo on the planet!!

Reply

We don’t have a TJ’s in my town. It pretty much sucks. I was going to say I’d like a Target within walking distance, but then I’d just be broke.
Yay Brooke! :)

Reply

Ummm I kind of live within walking distance of Target. Not *exactly* walking distance, but like, two minute drive on two scarily busy streets. My Friday nights have never been more pathetic ;). I mean, awesome!

Reply

Sounds like you and I are twins! Trader Joe’s and yogurtland within walking distance, nothing better! I pretty much hated all vegetables in high school, but now I like most all of them.

Reply

If I could live close to any store it would be Target. I hated mayo growing up, then I liked it in my 20s, now it has started to weird me out again. I live in the city so there aren’t really any wild animals roaming around. I take that back we have a lot of squirrels, annoying ones. Trader Joes has these smore bites, its a small graham cracker topped with a marshmallow covered in chocolate. Those are to die for. I am also addicted to the seaweed chips.

Reply

Chocolate covered PB filled Pretzels. You MUST GET THOSE!!

I think I would love to live close enough to walk to an ice cream shop. But I know my middle son would answer Taco Bell. He LOVEs that place :)

I hated tomatoes growing up. My hubby encouraged me to eat them when I was preggo with my first son, and I have enjoyed this since.

We have deer and such here.

Reply

I was so excited when I moved to Milwaukee me discovered there are wild bunnies here! I LOVE rabbits. I especially like seeing them on my runs. It is so exciting for me each and every time!

Reply

I think I would choose chopped! It’s like the greatest salad place – you pick all your toppings and everything and they chop up everything for you so it’s bite sized! I’d eat there everyday if it was near me! (Which probably wouldn’t make my wallet very happy). A food that I hated when I was younger, but now I love it is probably turkey burgers! I thought they were weird and gross. But I don’t eat red meat anymore! So bring on the turkey!

Reply

AHHH I’m so jealous. The nearest Trader Joe’s is about 20 minutes away so I always go to the local grocery store or Whole Foods because it’s just so convenient. And your daughter is adorable! I loved the video :)

Brooke’s little eyebrowl furl before she turns over made my Thursday. Adorable.

OMG. I love the video of Brooke!!! Keep them coming =)

I know this is totally not relevant but LOOK! Since you were just trying to figure out what these were the other day.. :)

Trader Joe’s is actually the greatest invention ever. We just got one close to my house at home and my mom is like a kid in a candy store. I bet your mom will be too!
Congrats on Brooke rolling over!!! That deserves an extra trip to yogurtland if you ask me ;)

Reply

-that video is so cute, that determined look on her face is priceless!
-We now live in a city that has a Trader Joe’s, and it would be amazing if it were in walking distance. It’d be so nice to just walk over to pick up something for dinner a few nights a week!

Reply

I have yet to get over to Trader Joe’s since I’ve heard that it’s been crazy busy and pretty out of stock. Good to know Thursday is the best day to head over! I was soooo excited to hear they opened out here. I’ve been slowly dying the last few years without one. ;) Hopefully I’ll get up there in the next couple weeks! I love all of their nut butters, fruit butters, and jams. Some of their soups are pretty good too!

Reply

I would love to live next to a Cold Stone or Cherry Berry (which is like your Yogurtland) . I currently live by a TJMax store and love it though too- I buy tons of running/outdoor clothes there.

I always hated Chilli growing up, and now love it!

We have owls by my parents house which keep them up at night because their so loud! Alot of times we’ll see them purched on the swingset or on our trees in the backyard.

Reply

I would choose Target…but I would be so poor!

Reply

These questions are easy today! I would definitely pick either Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. I absolutely hated spaghetti sauce when I was younger. I couldn’t stand it, but I can’t get enough. You absolutely must buy Cookie Butter for your mom. Yum!!

Reply

I would love for a Starbucks or some other coffee shop to be within walking distance. That way I could just go there, hang out, and write blog posts or whatever. Sometimes it’s nice to just get out. I WOULD say froyo, but I think that would be dangerous if I could walk to it.

Reply

I wish I had a Whole Foods so close I could walk! There isn’t one in Columbia and in St. Louis it’s a bit of a drive from my house.

At my house in St. Louis, we live by a park and we get TONS of deer. Apparently last week my dad was getting the newspaper and a deer jumped up onto our porch! Crazy deer. They have no fears.

Trade Joe’s is pretty cool, and I would suggest either getting some of their delicious candies or smoked canned trout. Love that stuff!

Reply

I’ll take a good froyo spot and whole foods please!

First I would have to learn self control so I wouldn’t go broke!

Reply

You HAVE to have your mom try the Trader Joes Cookie Butter! UNREAL.

Reply

Okay, so you’re going to think I’m weird because I’m not mentioning cookie butter or pumpkin butter or peanut butter cups, but your mom really needs to try the dried bing cherries! (did I just say that? yes, i did.) :P

As for wild animals in Houston, watch out for those possums and domesticated squirrels.

Reply

I’ve yet to set foot inside TJ’s :( We don’t have them up in Canada, and I never got the chance to go to one when I was in the States. BUT! I’ll be flying down in a week or so and plan to visit then. Can.not.wait. Is it better than Whole Foods? Because the first time I walked into one of those, I literally squealed with excitement, so I don’t know what’s going to happen if TJ’s ends up being better…

Reply

I actually do have a lot of store that I can walk to (now), depending on how long I want to walk. But any grocery store for when I am missing the one ingredient I need. Or target. Which has everything.
Eggs. I used to hate eggs. And on my honeymoon, everything changed.
Coyotes, owls, bunnies, foxes, prairie dogs.
The trail mix that is almonds, cashews and chocolate. The mandarin orange chicken. The cinnamon swirl bread.

Trader Joe’s and TCBY…fosho.

Brooke is so cute in her zebra print!

hahaa, i have definitely gone back for seconds of froyo before! brooke is so cute!

Trader Joe’s for sure! Or maybe Whole Foods!

When I lived in Southern Oregon, we had deer downtown and in our yard at all times of the day, everyday. They were like pet dogs really. Very tame. Here, not so much.

Your mom NEEDS Cookie Butter!

Reply

haahah I love deer! We see some around the highway in my area too.

AWWW brooke!! What a great and successful roll over!

We don’t have trader joe’s here.. :(

Reply

Have you heard of a blog called whatsgoodattjs.com?

They review all Trader Joe’s products. I discovered them on instagram.

I love shopping at TJS. I can’t believe that Utah is just now opening one! That’s crazy. Utah is in for a treat. : )

Reply

Oh my, that was just the cutest video I ever have seen! Love it!

A Trader Joe’s just opened in San Antonio a few weeks ago; I went the weekend it opened and had to wait in line to park! It was crazy when I finally got inside so I just grabbed a couple things and got the heck out of there. It’s much better now though and I love that we finally have one here.

Reply

I am trying to convince hubby that peas and meatloaf go together… but he doesn’t believe me. Best meal ever.

Your moms enchiladas look delicious. Is there any way that she would be willing to share and that you would be willing to email it to me? I have two girls ages four and six and I think they would love them! Thank you!

I would love to live within walking distance of Target. I would go everyday! I used to hate tomatoes. I liked tomato sauce, no problem, but not the actual tomato. Now, I really like them! Have fun at Trader Joes! There is one near Atlanta I know. I just need to go!
The roll-over is awesome! Way to go Brooke!

I went to TJ’s last Saturday with my mom and sisters and it was crazy. They were sold out of most everything I wanted. My mom still bought pretty much every available treat left in the store and I sample them all and I gotta say – they were all so delicious. That store is dangerous. Well, she went back again yesterday (love her) and called to ask me what I wanted. She was able to get me the dark chocolate & sea salt covered almonds :) They were out of the dark chocolate covered peppermint joe joe’s though. So I reccomend both of those. My friend told me to get the mango and coconut dark chocolate squares – so my mom got those, but I have yet to try them. I think I could make a list a mile long. Have so much fun!

I love Brook’s zebra PJ’s. So cute! And I am so proud of her for rolling over. Can I be like one of those creepy people that she calls ‘Aunt’ even though I am not even related?

I hated pretty much ANY vegetable in high school, sandwiches and salads. Seriously. What was wrong with me? I was so picky. My diet was terrible. But now I love pretty much any vegetable. Like a lot.

Having Yogurtland next door would be trouble. Either I would spend 1/2 our income on fro yo or I would go back every 15 minuutes and refill my sample cups.

OK, this is crazy. I just found and came over to your blog (hi!) and saw the TJs post. I wrote about TJs a few days ago (http://runandwrite.blogspot.com/2012/12/recovery-run-fail.html). Since I moved to the East from CO a few months ago (where there is not yet a TJs), I have been frequenting this place. So glad you have one near you now! They are amazing.

Reply

Haha I DO live in walking distance of a Trader Joe’s! It’s a half mile from me and right by my gym! And I wish I loved closer to Whole Foods. Oh, and tell Brooke CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Reply

I too have never been to Trader Joe’s…what is wrong with me?!? Oh well! I love Brooke’s little leg rolls and her hair in the rolling over video :)

Reply

I wish LuluLemon (not sure if you have this store in the States but they have the best and nicest workout attire EVER….check out their website ). If I lived walking distance to Lulu I’d be broke.

Growing up I hated fish and would fight with my parents not to finish dinner. Now I practically live off fish!

Please congratulate Brooke on her roll over, very impressive!! She’s so cute

Reply

Ya Brooke! I love TJ’s pink lemonade!

Reply

I feel the exact same way about meatloaf! I HATED it for years, but then I had it again recently and it was awesome! Can’t believe I was missing out all these years.

Reply

Yay for Brooke and for a TJ’s!!

I didn’t like guacamole or avocados growing up and now I’m making up for lost time haha.

Reply

Ooh the closest store we have to SFSU campus is TJ’s, so it’s pretty awesome. My roommate and I usually walk there and back once per week to buy groceries.
And they’re opening up a new Yogurtland near campus!!!
Hehehe congrats to Brooke on rolling over!! Soon, she’ll be sitting up by herself! My friends’ babies JUST started crawling :D Super cute

Reply

That’s so funny about the meatloaf. To this day my sister and I will not eat my Mom’s meatloaf because we were terrified of it when we were younger!!

BROOKE IS SOOOO CUTE!! Gosh she’s getting so big, I can hardly believe it!

There is definitely nothing wrong with going to get froyo twice in a one day :)

We have all kinds of animals in our neighborhood too. We have deer, foxes, opossums, raccoons (who I think got into our trash the other night!) LOTS of squirrels and bunnies, owls, etc! We live in Charlotte, NC!

Reply

get the cookie butter! I just showed my mom that and she bought more and is putting some in food storage :)

Reply

No TJs in my area yet :-(
Love the video of Brooke! Almost looked like it scared her when she finally rolled over haha

Reply

I think I am going to TJ’s tomorrow in SLC! WAHOO!!!!

Yumm yogurtland. I want some. Like now.

YAY for Brooke! Gosh, she is CUTE!

I cheered for Brooke too, but very quietly because I’m at work. Shhh!

On to the questions:

If you could choose just one store to be so close to you that you could walk to it, what would it be?
Um, remember yesterday? Target. But, the good/bad news is, I actually DO live within walking distance of a Target. Running, I could get there in 5 minutes!

What was a food that you HATED in high school (or younger) but now you love?
Cesar salad. Random, I know.

What wild animals do you have near where you live?
Possums. (Opossums?) Anyway, they’re like giant rats and they’re disgusting.

What is something that you think I NEED to buy at TJ’s for my mom to experience?
The Gingerbread cookies dipped in white fudge. No joke. SOOOO good. I just got some last night. Seriously, go there NOW.

Adios!

Reply

Omg. Brooke’s little chubby legs are the cutest in the pic with her in front of the food!
Store I wish was close enough for me to walk into everyday is my favorite independent health food store. That place is pure awesome. A food I hated in highschool but love now is brussels sprouts. Wild animals where I live (the less common ones) are: coyote, wild turkey, fox, bobcats, mountain lions, river otters. The turkeys are crazy stupid and annoying… I saw one on my street that had stopped traffic and it kept pecking at the car’s tires that was trying to slowly move around it!

Reply

Just walked in the door with my TJ’s goodies. I’d say cookie butter is a must. I just got the Peppermint Pretzel Slims that are pretty amazing!

Reply

Coooookiieeee Buttterrr!!!!!!!

I used to hate avocados! Something was definitely wrong with me back then…I am obsessed with them now! I still hate blue cheese…people always tell me I’ll it’ll grow on me eventually–but I doubt it. Blue cheese=blechhhhh!!

Reply

I think I would vote to walk to Trader Joe’s for sure! I was there on grand opening day and it was absolutely insane. Hope you didn’t encounter too many crowds. We went again yesterday and it was still packed! I heard it was their biggest opening ever!

Reply

I wish the gym was within walking distance!

I used to hate fish….any kind. Now I love it!

The strangest wild animals we have nearby are peacocks. Annoying when they crow, but the males are pretty. :)

I think you and your Mom need to do a Jo-Jo’s v. Oreos taste test. :) …oh, and the little animal cookies are good, too!

Reply

From my old apartment I could walk to Target and it was amazing! From the new place I can walk to Kohl’s, but it is not as fun. I went to TJ’s for the first time last weekend and it was life changing. I love their candy cane green tea! I wish I lived closer to one.

I actually don’t see too many wild animals near me (yay cities!). Although, I recently saw a black squirrel…

When I was younger I used to hate bananas (weird, right?), but now I love them!

Reply

We constantly have deer too, but apparently Utah deer are darker and bulkier than our deer? We have turkeys too, and they will sneak up and scare you when they can!

Reply

omg I LOVE trader joes!!! my xc team stopped there on our way home from a race and it was like heaven.. we did a number on that store. I wish I had one closer but the nearest one is about 3 hours away :( their chocolate is amazing
