Our first family fun run and dark chocolate pomegranate

Once again Brooke proved to be the perfect child for us because she absolutely LOVED the jogging stroller and would start crying when we stopped to check on her… she wanted us to keep moving.  We used the blanket to help support her neck but my stroller is more reclined than I thought it was and so she didn’t even need it.  Be prepared for thousands of pictures of her in the blue stroller over the next 6 years.

IMG 6778

We did about 5 miles at a little under an 8 minute mile pace.  I requested to push the stroller the whole time because I have a feeling stroller running will maybe help with speed after a while.

After our run we went to our Northern California Disneyland (aka Costco) and the best find of the day were these Dark Chocoalte Pomegranates… heaven.  It is pretty darn impossible to get a non-blurry picture of brooke any more because she is constantly moving,  it makes me so happy to see her arms waving around and feet kicking all day.  She also thinks her tongue is the coolest thing ever.  Her outfit makes me crave caramel apples from The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

IMG 6783

BOLD hooked us up with some incredible steaks and I cooked us up some top sirloin for dinner.  I made the spinach/feta/craisin/poppyseed dressing salads and Costco made the artichoke dip and sourdough crisps.  If your Costco has those items you have to get them.   We both had our steaks medium rare which is really the only way to eat a steak:)

DSC 5128

Please tell me you have had Mexican Hot Chocolate!  We had some while watching another few episodes of Flashpoint (addicted).  Hot chocolate is sure necessary on these cold 65 degree nights here (I am subliminally trying to make my mom realize that she needs to move next door to us and out of Utah by reminding her how much warmer it is here.  Give me at least another 2-3 years and I guarantee they will move here).

DSC 5131

I am going to a cookie exchange party TONIGHT and I am in dire need of your help to decide what kind of cookie to make… PLEASE HELP ME BE CREATIVE AND COOL and tell me what kind I should bring so people will think I am awesome.

If you eat steak, how do you like it prepared?

Brooke looks SOO happy in her stroller! You are a lucky momma that she loves it so much.

I went to a Christmas cookie exchange party the other night and the two favorite hits of the night were mint chocolate chip cookies and Oreo pudding. (http://www.chef-in-training.com/2011/09/oreo-pudding-cookies/ )SOO good!

I’m currently addicted to Parenthood and Chicago fire. There are just too many great shows to fit into a day!

Yahoo for family runs! Addy loved the jogging stroller as well (and still does!)

My parents live 1 hour away–and in my opinion that is too far;-)

Reply

Family runs are the best! Embarrassingly, we have a jogging stroller for our dog! We take him in it on holidays when he’s too tired from all the other activity we do. It is a good workout pushing that thing!
I think plain old sugar cookies are always a hit!
My parents and my in-laws live about five minutes away. I LOVE it!

Reply

Have a BLAST at your party! Family runs are star runs for sure. No matter what! prefer medium steak. Def not well done. And yes my family and his love close which is nice for help with little ones!

i’m addicted to the dark chocolate pomegranete. i unfortunately don’t have a costco membership so i have my sister in law supply me! i recently thought about getting a membership just so i could make that one purchase. is that a bad idea???

i’m addicted to big bang theory right now. i didn’t start watching until about a month ago, so my dvr is packed with episodes to get caught up.

Ok, I have been obsessed with those pomegranates for years and they truly are amazing. It takes all of my self control to not eat the entire bag on the way home from Costco! Also, hot chocolate cookies are instant favorites. I made them for a party last weekend and they were gone in minutes and just baked another batch for our office party this afternoon. You wont regret it! http://penniesonaplatter.com/2012/02/29/hot-chocolate-cookies/

These are really easy to make and look really cool – they’re candy cane cookies!

such cute pictures! what kind of jogging stroller do you guys have? we’re looking for one right now because i’m pregnant and due in may!

I just love reading your blog!! :) It just makes me so happy!! :) About the cookies…we have made these melted snowmen before http://allrecipes.com/cook/pam-3boysmama/blogentry.aspx?postid=150047. They are super adorable. I do not just love the way they taste – but that is because I only really like marshmallows in hot chocolate or s’mores. BUT, I am now realizing that THESE cookies http://www.msflourgirl.com/?p=488 which involve peanut butter and ritz crackers and white chocolate are what you should really probably make. They are melt-in-your-mouth-you-immediately-crave-more kind of good and also they are very easy. Plus if you drizzle the dark choc over them like it shows in this pic – it looks super amazing!! ;) They would def be in love with you! :) Actually, now I want to go make some…

But don’t worry – they will love you no matter what kind of cookies you make! :D Good luck and happy baking!!

Brooke looks so happy in her stroller. How cute! My family is not close by. We are all spread out. Normally I don’t mind it except for during the holidays. This is the 2nd Christmas in a row I won’t be going home. Maybe next year. I know it’s only 7:23am but the mention of steak makes me really hungry.

Reply

Not going to lie I like my steak well done! For our wedding meals we had combo platters of filet mignon and chicken something. I had the coordinator set it up so my Dad got 2 steaks and I got 2 chickens because I am so picky about my steak. I never order it when we eat out. My parents live 45 minutes away and my in-laws live 15 minutes away. We go over yo my parents every Wednesday for Family Dinner night.

I have been addicted to Flashpoint since sometime last year when my sister-in-law introduced me to it!!! Such a great show, and it truly makes me sad that this is its last season!!!
I actually still live at home, so I guess you could say I live pretty close to my parents!! :-)

Peanut butter blossoms.

I made these for the first time this year and they are divine. My suggestion? Use the hershey’s kisses with almonds!

Not a fan of pomegranates but I’ve had their mix of chocolate covered blueberries/acai berries and they were awesome sauce.

I have made both of these and sent them to my husband’s work, and everyone raved about both.

Are cookie exchange parties only for cookies? I’ve never been to one, so hopefully that’s not a stupid question. Either way, you should DEFINITELY make these:

They are cheap, easy to make and SO delicious..gotta love that sweet and salty combo! Otherwise, I am going to attempt to make these tonight for a Christmas party I have this weekend:

Both sets of parents live 20 minutes away. Some days it is far too far away, and some days not far enough! ;)

I am enjoying the Mindy Project lately, waiting every week to roll around is a bit tough!

You should make the salted caramel pretzel thumbprint cookies from food network. They were in the December issue or you can find them on their website. They are soooooooo good and pretty easy to make.

We love parenthood as of recently, and Psych on Netflix!!

Question for ya, what kind of jogging stroller do you use?? It’s the big decision for us!

Family runs are the greatest! It is awesome that Brooke loves being in the stroller. Starting her out young will just help her get use to being out there with you guys!

The favorite cookie for us in a classic- peanut butter cookies with chocolate stars. We just made a batch last night and they are very tempting today!!

I am not a big steak eater but when I do have a good steak I like it to be well done.

Right now we are into Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. With our kids evening activities we don’t get much of a chance to watch tv.

My Dad lives about a mile away but we don’t see him much becuase of work schedules conflicting. Our Moms live about 1 1/2 hours away. Sometimes it is too far because it would be nice for them to be closer to help with the kids but other times it is just the right distance because I think any closer would be too close!

Reply

I say anything with dark chocolate is the best! Make cookies with dark chocolate chips OR anything minty is awesome for Christmas….mint choc. chip or candy cane.

I’ve never had Mexican hot chocolate, but I’m sure I’d like it. That little kick sounds great! Right now I’m enjoying dark chocolate hot chocolate in a K cup. See, I love dark chocolate, so those dark chocolate pomegranate things would be fab. I think my absolute favorite is dark chocolate covered raisins!

I need a steak now. Even though its morning they sound really good.

I currently live with my mom. Its a good thing and a bad thing. I loooove being around my mom, but my situation is not too good right now. I’m currently looking for a job. :( and that’s the reason I’m back at home.
hugs to Brookster!

Being Mexican, we always have Mexican hot chocolate in the home. LOVE IT! With some pan blanco/bolillo (mexican white bread, somewhat like french bread), toasted, and dipped into the hot chocolate! You have to try it!

I can’t remember the last time I ate steak! But when I used to eat it – I always liked it pink inside – juicier!! Currently I’m addicted to modern family, sons of anarchy, and of course always sunny in philadelphia! and my parents live VERY close to me – like – in the same house close :)

It’s so weird, I read your blog every day and I don’t even know you. You are just some random family on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean and the entire USA.

But somehow, I want to know what you’re up to and I guess we share a fascination for grocery stores.

I got so excited that Brooke is now ready to go running with you that I sent an email to my partner informing her of this mile stone in the little girl’s life :)

I eat my steak well done, I am currently obsessed with the beatniks and my parents live an hour’s flight away in Germany.

Lots of love from London!

I have my cookie exchange party next week. I won last year, so the pressure is on!

I told you yesterday that I spotted that bag of dark chocolate covered pomegranates. I could spot them anywhere because I love them so much. Same with the acai berries. Mmmm. Ross and I can eat the whole bag in no time. Anna loves them too.

I like my steaks medium.

No bake cookies!!!!!!

Here’s a link to a recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/cooking-live/chocolate-peanut-butter-no-bake-cookies-recipe/index.html

I also wrote about them on my blog a while ago. I tried to make a “healthy” version of these with splenda/stivia/truvia and bananas instead of butter. It was quite tasty. I would recommend only one banana though (I did two originally), unless you REALLY like banana.

http://mtnsandmiles.blogspot.com/2012/11/healthyier-no-bake-cookies.html

But if you don’t care about being healthy…make the originals. SO TASTY!!!

Just did the cookie thing last Saturday with friends…..I made these and they were the biggest hit.
Google cake balls.
I made with chocolate cake and chocolate frosting.
I bought some red and green sprinkles so that after coating in chocolate they looked festive.
Also bought mini cupcake muffin wrappers that were Christmasy, and placed each cake ball in one.

Make molasses cookies! It think they’re the best kind of cookie EVER, especially during the holidays. But, no one ever thinks to make them, maybe because it’s kind of old fashioned? Idk, but my Grandma always made them and her mom always made them, so I’m assuming they’re an old tradition! I’ve gotten addicted to a few too many shows this year :/ Nashville, Heart of Dixie, Guilianna & Bill… I also like my steak medium-rare, but more on the rare side. Whenever my husband and I go out the waiter is always surprised that I like my meat rarer than he does! I just tell them that his good taste ended at me ;) haha!

Those dark chocolate pomegranate thingies are a daily snack for me- amazing. Have you tried the blueberry version? Not quite as awesome but still yummy.

So cool! Can’t wait to be able to run with my little baby when it is here. But first I need to find a good runner stroller… Mission!! Love how cute and happy Brooke always looks. A cheerful heart is good medicine! :)

She looks so happy in the stroller even if she was crying every time you stopped. Did you have to bribe her for that good shot?

Hi Janae,

What kind of jogging stroller did you get? Also, are you still thinking if doing a breastfeeding post? Would love your thoughts on how it’s going and how post partum has affected you!
