A sad and happy tangent Tuesday

A part of me died this morning and I am not even being dramatic about this.  I started my treadmill run with the fan so close to me that it almost cut off my fingers three times and a few minutes into my run the screen on my treadmill went BLANK!!!!! NOOOOOOO.  I unplugged it and started again and the same thing happened, the treadmill belt keeps going and you can still adjust the speed and incline but you just can’t see anything.  This can’t be happening.  I ran for about an hour so I am guessing I did a little over 7 miles but my ocd number running self is going crazy.

Billy, it is time to use your engineering degree and fix my treadmill.  If you wouldn’t mine skipping your last classes of the day to come fix it that would be really awesome.

I read my book club book while I ran and the hour flew by because I am REALLY into this book (A Million Miles in a Thousand Years ).  The beginning was really slow but now I am hooked and every page really has me thinking.

—————————————————–

I thought for the first 26 years of my life that the best smell in the world was when you walk by a Cinnabon store in the airport after they pull out a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls but I was wrong, Brooke after a bath is my absolute favorite smell.

—————————————————

My sister called me this morning and when I answered she sounded really out of breath and full of emotion.  She didn’t say hello but just started by saying, “Every season of ALIAS is now on Netflix and when you come in November we are watching it start to finish together,”  This is a big deal to us and we finished the conversation by doing an air pinky promises that we wouldn’t watch Alias without the other person.

The best part is that this will be our second (okay, third) time watching the entire series together.  Most common foods eaten while watching this show together: Frozen skittles, hint of lime tortilla chips and flaming hot cheetohs.

The snack of the week.  2 cut up peaches, LOVE GROWN granola and milk.  Don’t worry, FMW is still a daily occurrence but I have been having it for bfast now.

Ah, there is nothing quite like that fresh, sweet baby scent. You just have to love it.

My absolute favorite smell = the ocean air. It instantly fills me with inspiration! :)

Reply

You are so right.. the ocean air is the BEST! You are making me crave a beach day:) Hope you are having an amazing Tuesday Shari!

Laundry can be a pain but I don’t mind it too much. What I hate doing more than anything is mopping. We only have two bathrooms and a teeny tiny kitchen that need mopping. Our kitchen floor gets ridiculously dirty and I just ignore it until my husband finally does something about it. I take really good care of all of my other ‘domestic duties’ but mopping the floor isn’t one of them. Oh and ironing. I don’t iron.

Reply

How about you come over and do my laundry and I will come mop for you:) I have tried to ignore the laundry until Billy does it but then I run out of running clothes and I give in ha! We don’t iron either!

Reply

Deal!

Reply

Oh NO!!! I am so glad your treadmill is still working period but that stinks that the screen is broken. Mine has completely stopped work several times over the years and I hate it.

That photo of Brooke after her bath is the most precious thing ever. I bet you never stop smiling :)

Reply

NOOOO your treadmill completely stopped?! BOOO!!! Thanks so much Lauren and you are right, I really don’t:)

Reply

I am OBSESSED with Flaming Hot Cheetos..and Brook is the sweetest!

Reply

They are so so so addicting!! Have you tried the ones with lime in them? They are amazing!

Reply

I put off cleaning out my car.

Mountain air, suntan lotion, my grandparents kitchen at breakfast.

Tangent: just ate the chocolate chips out of a banana chocolate chip muffin.

Reply

Okay, you NAILED it with the smells that you listed. BAHAHA I have totally eaten the chocolate chips out of a muffin too! We are way too alike:)

Reply

So this happened to mine a few weeks ago! Unfortunately, mine was a software issue (I thin) in my upper control board and I ended up getting a whole new machine. I think it’s only a few hundred dollars to replace but I got my machine off CraigsList and I was able to buy my friend’s brand new one for the same amount it would cost to replace the old part. I TOTALLY understand how frustrating it is. I went 3 weeks without mine and about died without it. Good luck girl!

Reply

REALLY!?!?I bet that is what the problem is with mine. I am going to have to look into the warrantee because mine is only 1.5 years old!

Reply

I am OBSESSED with Alias! I watched the series from start to finish a couple of years ago and you have just reminded me to add it to my immediate to-do list! ;)
I always put laundry off. Then I put off putting it away and then it gets all wrinkled and I look like a sloppy mess (iron? what’s that). ahh boo laundry!

Reply

Isn’t it the best show EVER!!!!! Oh Amanda, I don’t remember the last time I used an iron ha!

Reply

That picture of Brooke! I just about died it’s so cute!!

Favorite smells: Towels fresh out of the dryer, my husband (usually ;-) ), peonies

My straigtening iron broke this morning..my hair is hottt right now.

Have an awesome Tuesday, Janae!

Reply

NOOOOO about your straightening iron, that is such a bummer! I am sure your hair still looks amazing though:) Those are incredible smells, you are right!

Reply

Brooke kind of looks like she belongs on the Jersey shore in that picture — she should totally use that as a Halloween costume!! :) Kidding. She’s adorable and probably smells just as fabulous as she looks.
I’m all about the smell of baking bread. Just thinking about it makes me all warm and happy inside.
I was putting off my laundry … now it’s in the dryer and I have ZERO motivation to fold it. Darn my foresight — I made getting all my laundry done within 24 hours a goal for the month of October … Can it be November already?? haha.
I am totally mourning the loss of your treadmill screen. Fingers crossed Billy can fix it!!! I’m totally with you on wanting to know the numbers — I did a track workout this morning, and while I know how many laps I did overall, I don’t enjoy knowing how fast I was going or where I can improve.

Reply

My computer is dead currently and the hubby has hidden his beloved iPad from me and the kids. Something to do how we always gum it up when using it…terrible reason to hide a $300+ electronic item…

I love my freshly clean kids, fresh cut grass and the smell of fresh waffle cones!

Reply

lol I hate doing laundry too but that’s because I have to pay for it in quarters and the machines are down in the basement… it’s such a pain.

Reply

Oh my, this is my new favorite Brooke picture! She looks so happy! Sorry to hear about your treadmill. I think my favorite smell is garlic cooking in butter. The ocean is my real favorite smell, but I don’t get to smell it nearly enough, so it doesn’t get first place. I find it very homey and comforting. And it usually means dinner is going to be delicious! Whenever I think something may have happened to my computer, I freak out. I need my computer!

Baby smell, hands down. Every baby gets a little sniff from me. They are just a big peace of heaven!! Once, while working in the ICU, a mother was in our unit from a complication. The nursery brought the baby over for her to see and I asked the parents if I could hold her. They didn’t speak English, but through simple words and pantomime the husband was very gracious to let me. As soon as I picked up the little miracle I put my nose right on her cheek and smelled! I remember it very distinctly because the dad giggled over it. He thought it was so funny that I was smelling his baby. (Mom was pretty sedated)

Have put off painting my bedroom for over a year. I still have the sample paint stripes on the wall.
Today, after I got my braces off (yeah!), I bit into a slice of deli turkey and one of my crowns fell out!! AARRRRGGGG! Luckily the dentist fit me in asap and my mouth is now full of teeth again.
I tried running without numbers, but I’m OCD too. I always look at the calories I burn even though I don’t really count calories. I just HAVE to know!!

Reply

Clipping the cats nails. The Floors. Dusting.
I could watch DDD, SYTTD, or anything HouseHunters, Property Virgins, My First Place all day.
Cinnamon. Anything baking.
I broke my engagement ring a few times (bent the prongs).

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

I’ve generally been avoiding housework – specifically washing up and vacuuming. Chores are no fun!

Great smells – I love the smell of the sea, fresh seafood cooking, chocolate…

Reply

Brooke is looking more and more different. She’s getting such chubby cheeks!

Reply

Oh nooooo, not the treadmill! Did you know (of course you don’t) that I just bought that exact same treadmill because you’ve had it for a while and love it so much? (Oh, and it also got other good reviews). You have put a lot of miles on that thing, so I can expect my screen to die in about 10 years, right?

Reply

I am so glad you got a treadmill! I am guessing the problem is from moving it in a pod and having it outside so don’t worry:)

Reply

We have that same laundry hamper! :) I always put off laundry – not really doing the laundry, but folding it and putting it away…

Tangents – I love my jobs! Teaching, coaching, teaching fitness, training – it’s all great! Even on a day like today where I have to hit them all and I really want to go home, I feel so blessed to be able to do all that I can and help others.

Reply

My favorite smell is buttercream. I smell it everyday at work and its heavenly. Another is my dog while she is napping…she gets so hot she smells like Fritos. I know its kinda gross, but I miss her so much that it makes my heart happy to smell it.

Reply

i have a pile of laundry tumbling out of the hamper and onto the floor. i kick at it to move it out of way but i think i need to buckle down and do laundry this week.

hope Billy can fix the treadmill. i tried fixing ne on my own (the belt kept moving sideways and into the wall) and I broke it further. whoops.

My phone is broken. it no longer takes calls or lets me make them. though i can text. haha.

Reply

Oh man. That pic of Brooke is so dang cute. I want to munch on those rolls/cheeks.

I put off dusting all.the.time. And we have dark furniture so it needs to be done all.the.time. I think it is because my mom had so many nick nacks that it took forever to dust my house growing up and it was my least favorite chore. So even though I keep my house very minimalist (because my mom didn’t) and it only takes me like 15 minutes to dust, I still loathe it,

Homemade bread or cookies baking.

I am happy that at least your treadmill still works, but I would be freaking out too. I am a numbers person, like you, when it comes to running and I need to know how fast and how far etc. Do you have a foot pod for your Garmin? If you can’t fix your tready, I will send you mine to borrow. But then you would have to wear your Garmin on the treadmill, which is kinda funny, but at least you would know your stats!

Reply

Ditto on the foot pod! I love mine and have gotten more comfy with wearing it on the mill. I found over time it helped me keep better tracking my training.

Reply

That treadmill is way too new to be doing that! I would definitely be calling the manufacturer. Unless… didn’t you say you keep it outside under a tarp? Do you think maybe it got wet?

Reply

Freshly cleaned babies smell so good!

I have been putting off the dishes. I hate doing dishes. A lot.

Hopefully you can get your treadmill fixed! I’ll keep my fingers crossed!

Reply

How on earth do you read while running?! seriously impressive. I so wish I could do that!!

Reply

I was just thinking the same thing. I have a hard enough time watching tv, I could never read and run, especially as fast as Janae runs!

Reply

My iPhone broke last week and it has been the worst week of my life. I can’t get the thing to turn on (and I’m DUMB and didn’t back it up) so I lost all of my contacts and my calendar! I have a replacement phone until my new phone comes in the mail but honestly I feel SO lost with out my beloved iPhone.

Reply

Homework! I’m in the middle of a ten-week class and I constantly put off my homework.

Reply

Noooooo your treadmill can not die now. :(

Reply

Oh NOOO!!! Sad about your treadmill! I bet Billy will fix it right up, though :)

Brooke is SO cute–esp after a bath!

I love the smell of cinnamon, ocean breeze, and my husband’s cologne.

Nothing has broken lately…thank GOODness. & knock on wood. hah.

Reply

Love your blog! Little Brooke is the sweetest thing ever. I used to be a loyal Kelloggs FMW eater untill I had the Trader Joes frosted mini wheats, they will knock your socks off! Try them…they will change your life :)

Reply

Folding clothes out of the dryer…avoid it like the plague. Sometimes I’ll just leave it in the dryer with the laundry room door shut, pretending it isn’t there or maybe the dryer isn’t finished yet even though its been 5 hours…heh heh

Love when you crawl into bed and the sheets are freshly cleaned, or walk down the ground coffee aisle at the grocery store and this smell i think is linked to my pregnancy, but love the smell of bbq hot dogs LOL (before I was pregnant I hated hot dogs)

Tangent Tuesday- I have pregnant brain today because I feel like everything is a tangent…why didn’t I check the expiry date on my Greek yogurt before buying it?? Now I have to return it and feel like a cheapo because it expired 5 days ago…why is it still on the shelf????

Sorry happy rest of your tuesday:)
Brooke is so beautiful:)

Reply

Oh! I feel your pain! One of the reasons I like running on the treadmill is seeing the numbers keeps me motivated! And I definitely put off vacuuming-Yuck!

Reply

I freaked when I saw Alias was on Netflix. It was my first big show back in high school. I can blame that show entirely for my obsession with men in suits and Victor Garber.

Reply

That picture of Brooke is just too sweet – at the risk of sounding creepy, I think it might be my favorite one of her yet :)

I’m feeling you on the technology woes… My Keurig has been acting up lately and I’m getting kind of worried because I NEED my coffee and don’t want to have to break out the messy French press again. And it’s funny that you mention cinnamon buns as a favorite smell, because I was walking past a bakery yesterday when that wonderful sugar and cinnamon scent hit my nose and dragged me right in. One cinnamon bun in my belly later, and I was a happy camper :D

Reply

OMG! I love Alias. I have all the DVDs and watch them in order! When I grow up I want to be Sidney Bristow. :)

Reply

I have been putting off laundry too…which is weird because one of my favorite smell is fresh laundry :) I also love the smell of Christmas.

Reply

haha love the tangents! You and your sister are the cutest! Reminds me of my mom and I- we have watched the entire series of Gilmore Girls start to finish twice now (the first time when it was actually airing on TV, and then again when she bought every season.) You’ve inspired me to want to do that again! My tangents: I’m about to do level 2 of the 30 day shred, and am scared out of my wits. All of those planks! They’re unbearable!! But I know I’ll be so happy when it’s all over, so I’m going to push through it all. Okay, not much of a tangent, but oh well. Jillian’s calling.

Reply

I have been putting off reading a chapter in my book for two weeks now…..the test is thursday…..

the best smell in the world is a starbucks shop!!

all i can think about is pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin hershey kisses :)

Reply

I bet it’s the moisture content from the air that is frying your treadmill. Can you move it back inside? I know your porch is covered, but I doubt that is sufficient protection, even if it never gets wet directly.

Reply

Ooh, since it’s new maybe it’s under warranty, but if you moved it not in the original packing and keep it outside, it wouldn’t surprise me if that voids the warranty. Definitely try moving it back in the house I think.

Reply

Thoughts and prayers with your treadmill, that is no bueno!

I grew up in Florida and whenever everything shut down due to a hurricane I always watched hours and hours of my best friends Alias dvds…so amazing!

Reply

I’m so glad you said that Alias is on Netfilx. I’ve seriously been thinking about watching it for the past few weeks and now I can! Netflix is definitely one of the best inventions ever.
And I still can’t figure out how you read while you run. Isn’t it too bouncy to focus on the words?

Reply

Laundry is THEEEE worst chore ever! Whenever I have children I will tell them that for their chore they can either do laundry OR clean the ENTIRE house. Hopefully they will pick laundry haha

Reply

I always let my laundry pile up real big and then spend all weekend doing it. Then I will be good for one week and do some laundry during the week. Then I don’t do it for a week…..vicious cycle.Especially when you have work clothes, running clothes, pajamas, and sometimes after work clothes…ugh.

Tangents – It felt like Friday all day but its only Tuesday. Hate that!

Sorry about your treadmill :( hopefully billy can fix it!

Reply

My favorite smell in the whole world is when Russian Olive trees are blooming in the spring. LOVE it so much! they should make a perfume from it! My hubby knows a Russian Olive tree would be the best gift in the world to me, but he’s resisting because it’s a trash-tree. It grows like a weed & has thorny bark. But i don’t care. I WANT ONE in my yard!

Reply

That’s it–I’m moving to CA! I love dessert, Arrested Development, running, and Donald Miller. It’s a must that we live in the same state, much less city right? :)

Reply

I’ve been putting off cleaning my car (it reeeeeaaallly needs to be vacuumed) and putting my clean clothes away. They are piled on a chair and on my dresser. I look at them and think, I really need to fold these, and then walk away and forgot about them until the next time I see them. :O

Reply

I am putting off cleaning the glass shower door because our hard water leaves such ugly marks and it hurts my arm so much to clean them.

My absolute favorite smell is any baked good, I think. It’s very hard to decide!

Brooke’s after bath picture is TOO CUTE! I want to hug her.

Reply

My earphones broke (the wire came loose because it was badly taken care of by its owner). Oh, well. I’m practicing running without music these days anyways.
Brooke is so adorable! ;)

Reply

A freshly bathed baby….best smell ever! Banana bread baking is pretty great too.

Reply

oh no!!! my OCD brain would have completely fritzed out! but at least the belt runs and the display panel should be pretty ‘easy’ to fix. call up the people u ordered the treadmill from and ask them who u can speak with to get it looked at. i had bought my treadmill up in OR at Exercise Equip. Northwest and when i moved down to Cali i had a problem with the screen, i called them and even in another state they got a person to look at and fix my treadmill. good luck girl!

Reply

Omg I hope your treadmill gets fixed!!

Reply

I love Alias!! Best show ever : ) so sorry about your treadmill.

Reply

I’ve been putting off cleaning the apartment. It’s getting really, really bad. I reorganized the food and dishes in the cabinets today instead of cleaning. (I needed to be anal about something and I really did not want to deal with my apartment.)

Reply

Omg! That bath picture is the sweetest!!! Bummer about the treadmill. I can home from work and our water is out!! Can’t get it fixed til tomorrow. My hubby is super frustrated. We all went swimming because we can’t shower. Lol!

Reply

Janae! I’ve been reading HRG for a while now and am excited about leaving my first comment today! My ipod whig I used everyday for running broke over the summer (do NOT store it in your sports bra when running), and my PHONE which I now use for music and map my run recently broke…luckily it was under warranty so I’m up and running again! That baby is getting cuter everyday!

Reply

Nooooo! Seriously I would die if my treadmill bit the dust. And it probably will any day now, I have had it for a really long time (10 years ish). I’ve been meaning to ask you if you had a post about what kind of treadmill it is. I really like it and have been telling my husband to start saving b/c when the treadmill dies we will be going to buy a new one the next day. I hope you can get it fixed ASAP!
Brooke is such a doll.

Reply

i am so glad you are loving the book! i loved it and actually can’t wait for book club to talk about it!! i just put one of my favorite paragraphs from it on our blog..finish soon so we can chat about it! miss you..PS cutest picture of brooke after the bath! XO

Reply

Ahhhh, I recently broke my blackberyy :( I dropped in the sink while doing dishes and listening to music…. The treadmill sucks even worse!

I love the smells of subway shops, vanilla body spray and the cleaning aisle in the grocery store; I could stay in there for hours!

Reply

My treadmill did the same thing and it turned out that the display runs off a separate battery pack, not from the plug. You have a much fancier machine than mine, but thought I’d throw that out there just in case that is the problem.

Reply

Love Donald Miller’s book. I also loved reading Blue Like Jazz, also written by him.

Reply

I mean this in the most uncreepy way possible but I love the smell of babies…yup still sounded creepy! I’m a sucker for all things vanilla too- love it!

Reply

Way too many things to list. My office is a disaster zone. I just keep the door shut. Not okay. So impressed that you can read while you run. I would fall on my face in a heartbeat.

Reply

omg your baby is so CUTE!!!!!
I put of laundry all the time. My husband usually ends up doing it :P
The basket fills up SO much quicker with a little extra one! ;)

Reply

Hm…I put off everything except cooking dinner. And grocery shopping–because that gives me precious alone time where I’m not sweating! I stink at chores. There’s always so much more to do that seems important. Like blog reading!

Baby smell…definitely with you on that. And, honestly, now that I’ve decided to not have more children, I swear my friends babies smell even sweeter. :) Bottle some of that smell and send it around, kay?

Reply

You just need to get a foot pod to go with your Garmin. Perfect for keeping track of treadmill miles :) Also useful to analyse your cadence :)

Reply

Agreed – baby straight out of the bath is the best smell ever. Next favorite smell = my coffee brewing in the morning. Maybe this is because my sweet 5 month old still has erratic sleep habits. Ha.

What am I putting off? Let’s see where do I start. . . organizing my entire house and life might sum it all up. :)

Reply

Ha! I love cinnabon smell–ridiculous! I do not have a baby so I can’t compare, but I LOVE the smell of basically any flavored coffee brewing, my fav now is caramel pecan–yum!

Reply

I have searched every few weeks to see if Alias would pop up on Netflix. I don’t even know what the rest of your post said after you released that amazing bit of news. I used to run on the treadmill to my Alias DVDs but wore out half of them and I can’t wait to run watching Sydney kick all kids of ass again.

Reply

Oh my! Just bathed Brooke is the cutest thing ever!

Reply

I like laundry smell! I love it when I go cycling or running outside and I can tell that someone’s going to have fluffy and warm clothes soon :)

I also like the smell of cookies, brownies, cake, cupcakes, banana bread, etc etc baking!

Reply

Awww, your daughter is so freakin’ cute. And it’s so adorable to see how much you dote on her on your blog. I’ll bet you and Billy are going to be amazing parents. :-)

Lately I’ve been loving the spiced pumpkin candles. It always gets me into the spirit of autumn.

Reply

Cutest baby evaa! I used to love the smell of my Cabbage Patch doll back in the day – probably not anywhere near that of the real thing but I don’t have one of those yet.

Sorry to hear about your beloved.

Reply

Our Nordic Track just died too! We got a service call and parts being ordered. Not having it working is killing me. I hope you get yours worked out.
