Pudding pie, a child genius and pot-bellied pigs.

Billy was confused when I told him yesterday that I was taking Brooke to the petting zoo because he didn’t think that at 10 weeks old she would have any idea of what was going on but I think we have a child genius on our hands.  She stared at the cows for 5 minutes straight and I swear I heard her moo at one point.   Her little double chin melts my heart.

Okay, we may have also gone to the petting zoo for my own selfish reasons of wanting to hang out with friends.

You have to admit that we look a lot alike in the below picture.    Did you know that pot-bellied pigs can live until they are 30 years old?  This trip was very educational for me.

Game 2 of the World Series was on (ahem…. Giants won AGAIN) and so of course that means that we have our friends over and make them bring us delicious food like homemade chicken nuggets!

We really went out of our way and spent hours in the kitchen making nachos for them.

And my friend brought this beautiful pudding pie. Oreo crust, homemade chocolate pudding, homemade whipped cream topped with chocolate shavings and more oreos.

Billy was too full for his piece and so it is sitting in the fridge.  I am not strong enough to resist eating his piece without asking him while I am up feeding Brooke during the middle of the night and watching Friday Night Lights.  It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Chocolate pie always beats fruity pies in my book.

We decided for our next meal together that we will maybe try incorporating an actual vegetable in the meal.  Dessert will not be messed with though.

One awesome thing about my back hurting is that Billy gives it an awesome massage.  I might pull the ‘my back feels like it is broken’ card for the rest of 2012.

Did you have any animals besides cats/dogs when you were growing up?

Do you always have vegetables with your meals?

-I used to and I am really wanting to get back into that habit.  I may even buy a bag of broccoli this weekend.

What is the best part of your weekend going to be?

Anyone else watch the game last night?

I always have some kind of vegetable with lunch and dinner…not a bad habit to have :)! Breakfast is almost always on the sweet side so no veggies there….I can’t get into the whole “green monster/disguising your greens in sweet foods” phenomenon across the blogosphere!

Chris brought take out last night, and I still made myself a side of roasted vegetables if that tells you anything about my craziness to incorporate veggies at every meal.

We always had a salad with meals and I am trying to continue that with my kids because I believe it helped my love of all veggies.

My husband is out of town so I had no clue it was the World Series! lol.

Aww, looks like everyone had a wonderful time at the petting zoo! So fun!

I feel like, in my own experience, eating vegetables regularly has a similar effect as exercising regularly. If I skimp on either one, I realize how crappy I feel without them. It’s funny, because before you start doing either on a regular basis, you don’t realize how much better you could be feeling- but once you start, you’re kind of stuck! You’re body raises its expectations! Fine by me, along as I keep the balance with an adequate amount of occasional chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream :)

I used to obsess about how many veggies I was having — have to say, now that I’m being more flexible about it, my brain is much happier and my body isn’t hating on me either. As long as you’re getting enough, and playing the rainbow game with your colours, I think that that’s enough to keep you happy and healthy. :)
Best parts of my weekend: PRing my 10k (which I will, seeing as I would have to run 10+min slower than predicted to not PR), and seeing the boy who has been making me smile from a distance all week, but who has been sick and hasn’t allowed me to see him in person.
I love that Brooke was in love with the cows!! They’re really great creatures. When they’re clean. And at a safe distance …

My brother had fish when we were kids.

I’m so glad you learned so much at the petting zoo. Rachel the pig looks so happy :). Now she’s famous.

Aww Brooke looks adorable! I’m sure she had a great time at the zoo!!! The only other pets I had growing up were hamsters- I now think they are kind of gross. I’m just excited to relax this weekend and have a date night with my fiance! :)

The petting zoo looks like fun and I do think that Brooke is starting to look like you!!
Th best part of my weekend will be celebrating our anniversary with my boyfriend!

Your friends always have the best desserts to offer. :) They know you well. :)

So glad SF won! Hubby and I despise the tigers.

I don’t always have veggies with my meals and if I do, it’s only ever at dinner. I don’t eat veggies for breakfast or lunch. I am much more of a sweets person so fruit is my go-to… Well fruit and candy :)

I am most looking forward to spending the weekend with my hubby! I love being married to a man I am always excited to hang out with!

I wish I had a group of friends like you!

No pets growing up – I used to be disappointed we didn’t have a dog but we traveled too much to keep one and not feel bad for it. I feel the same way now as my mom did all those yrs ago when my boys ask for a dog. We are just too busy to give a dog a great life.

Veggies…we should be better with those. I am lucky to have 2 boys that love salad and the other likes green beans..so at least they are getting some in :)

Missed most ofte game last night as I was making sugar cookies for my oldest sons fall bake sale that is today.

-I’m way more interested in zoos now than when I was a kid haha
-My husband and I are going to his cousin’s wedding today which will be the highlight of our weekend I’m sure!

Reply

aww look at those happy kids!

Is it creepy that I immediately thought of you when the Giants won last night?

Happy a happy&smiling Friday!

Reply

Agreed! Chocolate dessert ALWAYS trumps fruity ones. I mean– I’ll take the fruity one too, but chocolate always wins. HANDS DOWN.

Reply

omg I looooooove petting zoos! Glad Brooke enjoyed it as well, cows are pretty awesome.

Reply

Chocolate pie definitely squashes fruit pie – no arguments there… especially when Oreos are involved :D And I used to be really big on making sure I got enough veggies in at dinner, but I’ve been slacking lately. I blame the fact that I just love having breakfast for dinner, and veggies don’t exactly go with cereal or waffles.

Fish and hamsters? haha
We do 90% of the time!
We are going to the zoo and a Halloween festival tomorrow :)
Hope your back feels better soon!

Reply

That pie looks delicious! I pretty much always have some type of vegetable with my meal. They are definitely a staple in my diet! I really hope you get to feeling better soon, but. hey, I might pull the back card to if it will get me a massage from my husband!

Reply

That pie looks amazing! Like I want to stop eating my breakfast and go have pie right this very second amazing. ;)

Reply

Sometimes I have a really dorky competition with myself called “how many veggies can I eat today.” Sometimes I even have a sweet potato for breakfast! My plans this weekend include baking tonight and then going to a halloween party tomorrow!

Reply

GO GIANTS!!

If you stick your tongue out, you two will look JUST like twins!

How does your friend get her bangs to look so amazing??

Reply

I made that chocolate pudding pie last weekend with my mom! It’s so good and way better than any fruit pie ever created.
Have a good weekend :)

So glad you were able to enjoy the day at the zoo with your baby girl! I think Brooke gets her pretty look from her momma.. :) I only had a dog growing up, but honestly I never really asked for anything else! I have always been a dog lover!

Reply

I grew up on a farm – we had lots! Sheep, cows, donkeys, llamas … the list goes on :)

Reply

Hi Janae – Can you tell me where you got the greenish open cardigan that you’re wearing at the petting zoo? Looking for something just like this! Thanks!!!

Reply

Hey! I got it from target! They are still at my target too!

Reply

Sweet! Thanks!

We try to incorporate veggies with every meal, but we don’t always succeed. Like last night when we were too lazy to cook and instead picked up takeout from a chinese restaurant. Definitely no veggies in that meal!

The best part of this weekend is going to be the cooler running temperatures! :) I can’t wait to run tomorrow morning when it’s only 60 degrees. Heaven!

Oreo pudding pie!!!! LOVE

Reply

We usually are the ones not ‘making’ stuff either. Haha. But we try hard to have veggies.

You and Brooke are so cute!!

Reply

No out of the ordinary animals.
We do always have some sort of veggie.
We are going to a Halloween party.
We did watch the game. At least it was close. But I forgot Greys Anatomy was on so now I have to watch that as well!

I definitely think that Brooke looks like you! The food all looks delicious. Wish me luck….tomorrow I run my very FIRST HALF MARATHON! I’m so excited and can’t wait!

Reply

Ahhhhhhhhhh good luck!!!! You are going to do amazing girl! Please tell me all about it and I want to see pics!

Reply

I’m sorry about your back–mama instinct protects those little ones, but sometimes at a cost. You’re lucky that Billy has magic hands! My husband is just a little too pinchy when he massages my back. Hope you feel better fast.

Best part of my weekend had better be MARINE CORPS MARATHON!!!

Reply

Ahhhhhhh good luck this weekend and please let me know how it goes!

Brooke’s hair is getting so dark (and cute)! I always had dogs and cats growing up 9at the same time). After moving out, I haven’t not had a cat and my dog died a couple years ago (which means we’re in the market for a new one). I don’t want a puppy until spring time. I don’t want to train it in the rain. What puppy would prefer to out in the cold, pouring rain vs a nice, warm house.

Boy, did we have pets! Most turned out to be less than awesome. We had hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, LAB MICE (I had wanted a rat but it’s not legal to have them as pets in Alaska-my mouse was white with gross red eyes), a hedgehog (also white with gross red eyes)… it took me a while to figure out I should just be happy with a dog.

Reply

Ok, I just caved and bought a bag of candy corn (after hunting at 3 stores.. I guess they are harder to find in Canada) and they have a blackberry flavoured one that’s purple! It’s great!

Reply

Oh and the best part of my weekend is getting out of the -10 and into Hawaii!

Reply

I think you might enjoy this video, haha. I know you are riding the high of being a Giant’s fan, but just take a look at some of the poor innocent hearts you have broken :) Cards fan my birth, sorry nothing I can do!

Reply

Growing up we had chickens…and we still do! We’ve even added turkeys, guineas and a quail.
I always forget to eat my veggies, need to start making it a habit.
This weekend = Halloween Party!
Also, I finally tried your candy corn/peanut combo last night and it was AMAZING! I don’t think I can ever eat candy corn without peanuts mixed in ever again. Thank you for bringing this yumminess to my life!

SHUT OUT!!! The game was good cant wait till game 3!! GO GIANTS!!!

Reply

I watched the game it was awesome! SHUT OUT BABY!!! GO GIANTS!!

i always try to eat a veggie at a meal — sometimes just a sad side of baby carrots, or a full-blown salad! cheese and ranch always helps too.

Reply

Little Brooke is tooooo cute :) Love that you went to the petting zoo! And ahem, GO GIANTS!!!! So exciting!! Also, I want that pie, it looks amazing.

Reply

I had an iguana when I was in middle school, and I had a pet duck in college. We also raised feeder pigs when I was younger, and I tried to make them into pets.

I used to always eat veggies with my meals, but I have been slacking a bit lately. I’ve got to get back to in the habit!

The surprise party for my brother’s 30th birthday! I can’t wait to see him and the rest of our family!

Reply

I make sure we always have a veggie with dinner. I usually try to include one with lunch too but it doesn’t always happen!

Reply

I am pretty good about getting veggies into every meal. I missed the game last night but am psyched about the win! and that pie looks amazing. I need to make that asap.

Your life is looking pretty darn amazing right now – love it ; )

I am most excited for Saturday girls day. My husband is out of town so my sister is coming over and we are going to hang all day being girly. ; )

Reply

I had a tree frog, but I’m pretty sure my mom set it free after a couple of weeks (we had to buy live bugs to feed it).

I strive to have some sort of veggie with every meal, but some days it just doesn’t work out.

Reply

I had a dog growing up, the cutest fat-est little golden labrador ever, I miss her! I’ve been wanting to get a dog lately but I want to wait and make sure i’m really ready for the responsibility.
I eat veggies with every meal, I have a very odd obsession with frozen green peas, I could eat them with every meal every day… obsessed!
This weekend isn’t going to be super eventful because I have an exam on Monday but I do hope to get out on some nice hikes and enjoy the gorgeous changing colours of fall

So sorry you’re hurt Janae. I fell with Jaxon one time outside and of course had to take the hit to avoid him getting hurt. Ended up tearing all the ligaments in my ankle, then passed out….but luckily not until I got us into the apartment.

Nope, didn’t watch any games last night, can’t wait for Sunday football though. Weekend plans are simple, soccer, ballet, run 11 miles, hope for a date night then church and football on Sunday.

I grew up in Draper, Utah. We had a few acres and a barn so we raised some cows, horses, sheep, pigs, a bunny or two. I always was annyoned by it but now think it would be great for my kids to be around more animals…but mostly just have the fields to run around in. I’m sure you know Draper is super developed now…too crowded.

I see you too are pretending it’s cooler weather. :) Still hot in AZ but a little cooler.

I remember being insanely jealous of my BFF in middle school because her neighbor across the street had a pot bellied pig. Everyone thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Reply

We had all sorts of animals! Love them! Hamsters, mice, guinea pig (Remington!), fish, parakeet, chickens. Would have loved to lived in the country and had bigger animals.

Do you always have vegetables with your meals? Almost always.

This weekend will be boring. I have lots of studying that has to be done.

Reply

I LOVE pudding pie! It is my favorite : )
