The best package I have ever received

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BROTHER DANIEL!!! We have been best friends since I was born and he really is one of the greatest people in the whole wide world.  I want to be just like him.  While we are on the topic of my awesome brother, he just found out he PASSED the Bar Exam (even though we all knew he would ace it) and is now working as a Patent Attorney.

Yesterday’s park day was awesome.  Sometimes I get embarrassed to tell you about the random food combinations I have but then I remember you already think I am strange and so I don’t think a tuna/guacomole/bbq sauce/cabbage pita sandwich is going to make you think I am any weirder than you already do.

Photo 1 copy

We also enjoyed those delicious pb cookies.  Serving size= 3 cookies a person.

Photo 2

Too bad Brooke conked out when it was time to make friends.

Screen Shot 2012 10 17 at 6 27 00 PM

When I got home from the park I had a huge box waiting for me outside my door and besides the crate of candy corn and peanuts that I ordered online the other day I couldn’t think of anything else that would be delivered to us in such a huge box.  Turns out it was an 8 lb dark chocolate egg.  Cue the heavens singing.

DSC 4385

Brooke was a little more than suspicious about the egg.  Maybe she was weirded out that we had a chocolate egg big enough to fit her into it.

DSC 4400

DSC 4394

I tore into it to find out what was inside.

DSC 4402

NEW RUNNING SHOES FROM BROOKS!!!!  They are the PureDrifts and they are beyond beautiful.  The PureFlows are currently my favorite running shoes and so I can’t wait to try out their new PureProject shoes!!!  I can hardly wait until my run today.

DSC 4405

Pretty awesome nutritional information for both the shoes and the ginormous dark chocolate egg.  19,200 calories in that baby… take a guess as to how many days that is going to last me.   I don’t know how I will instantly make 6 friends when I am not sharing with anyone.

DSC 4408

5.5 ounces and the maximum Run Happy and Feel Level… I have a good feeling about these.  I really can’t think of anything better than new running shoes surrounded by lbs of chocolate.

For dinner we had leftover macaroni and cheese and 1/4th of the above egg of happiness while watching the XFactor.

Do you have a birthday coming up?

-Sort of but I don’t usually start my February birthday countdown until November.

Any weird food combinations that you love to eat?

This is a random question but it has to do with nutritional food labels… how often do you check out a food label before you eat the item?

That egg looks amazing…Easter came early! I am a rigid label checker…after doing so on Weight Watchers for so long, it’s become 2nd nature to me. What have you decided about Brooke’s Halloween outfit??

Reply

Ooh, did you guys get the entire episode of X-Factor? It cut off halfway through for us when the rain delay lifted at the baseball game. I’m so curious who Demi and Simon chose!

Reply

Holy smokes that egg is huge! I saw it over on Monicas blog, but hers had broken so I was wondering how big it was!

I am all about odd food combos. Right now I love pickles and carrots together. Broccoli and ketchup is my fav. I also like steamed cabbage, purred squash, nooch and ketchup…the squash and ketchup make a creamy sauce over the cabbage.

I check the nutritional stats for a food, but usually only to check the ingredients and sugar/protein count. I no longer let the calories and fat dictate what i put into my mouth.

Reply

That egg next to Brooke made me laugh! I would have never guessed that there would be shoes inside that egg!

I check nutrition labels all the time. The evolution of what I check is always changing. It used to be just the calorie count. Then I finally started checking the fat content. Now I also look at the cholesterol among other things.

Reply

ok now the whole chocolate egg and shoe thing I kept hearing about it making sense. I saw multiple tweets about this yesterday.

Reply

SO SO SO jealous of those sneaks!!!! I am obsessed with my brooks flows and connects, just got an awesome half marathon pr in them – cant wait to get my hands on those when they hit the shelves…can’t wait to hear what you think of them too!
That is one crazy big egg!!

Reply

Your weird combo sounds fabulous!! I’m known for some pretty weird combos, but mostly I just like to put PB and/or (usually AND!!) maple syrup on just about everything these days. So fabulous!!
And that egg = epic and fabulous! It looks exactly like the egg from the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire — except I would argue that a chocolate egg is much better than a golden one that screeches!!

Reply

Oh my gosh! Brooke really could fit inside that chocolate egg!

Reply

OMGosh!!! What a huge egg. Brooke was right to be suspicious! And to think it was hiding a present! It’s amazing! As you can probably tell by all the !’s I’m using. Enjoy your new shoes.

Reply

I love that picture of Brooke next to the egg — it had me laughing out loud! She gives really good side-eye. :)

No birthdays coming up until next spring, actually…which is kind of weird now that I think about it!

Favorite weird food combos? I think I have a few: dunking Cheez-its in peanut butter…and sometimes ketchup too…sometimes both at the same time (I know.); dunking pretzels in cherry Kool-Aid; crumbling tortilla chips into my scrambled eggs with salsa (but I guess that’s maybe not so much weird as just an incredibly lazy form of migas?); and I love dill pickles with sharp cheddar cheese with mustard drizzled on top. Love that sour/tangy combo!

Reply

that’s the biggest chocolate egg I’ve ever seen!! pretty darn creative of Brooks to throw some running shoes in there…very creative packaging!! :) hope you love the shoes!! luv ya xoxo :)

Reply

Haha the Brooke egg pic is amazing. I wish I had some chocolate wrapped running shoes delivered to my house yesterday! I always glance at nutrition facts and ingredients. Usually if its super bad I put it down, but sometimes I pretend I didn’t see it and just shovel the Oreos into my mouth.

Reply

WOW! I love how it was egg to Brooke scale on your post!!! Muhahahhaha!!!

Reply

What a GREAT way to deliver shoes! If only all shoes came in a dark chocolate egg….

Reply

That picture of Brooke next to the egg is classic! I can almost imagine what she’s thinking as she eyes it!
I am a pretty frequent label checker, especially now that I have young kids. We try to eat relatively few processed foods; but, when we do, I want to know what’s in them and see if I can either make or buy healthier alternatives.

Reply

I start my birthday countdown in December {it’s in February too!}

I don’t know if it’s weird, but I like to eat popcorn with milk {like cereal}.

I don’t always check labels…and on junk food I choose not to…I’d rather be ignorant!

Reply

That’s a gigantic egg! Very creative of Brooks. I have been wanting to try the PureCadence shoes because I need extra support.

I always read nutrition labels since I started #whole30 and going unprocessed.

Reply

That chocolate egg is the best thing i’ve ever seen!! Such a creative way by Brooks to package the shoes. Every package should be edible from now on.

Brooke is such a cutie. I love her facial expressions!

I’m going to have to steal your no bake peanut butter cookies recipe. Peanut butter is my favorite food in the whole world and i could eat it on anything!

I will be 24 next week on the 24th :) To celebrate, i’m running my first half marathon this weekend with some friends from college!

Reply

Maybe the best nutrition facts label ever? Enjoy the new kicks!

Reply

Love that the egg is as big as Brooke, what an awesome picture! A lot of time I will read nutrition labels on new things to make sure there aren’t 5,000 calories in a serving, or that one cookie is not the serving size (who ever eats just ONE cookie? – please). But if I really want a candy bar – I’m not going to ruin it by looking at the nutrition info – I’m just going to eat it :)

Reply

OH & happy birthday to your brother Daniel!! since he’s a patent lawyer maybe he can patent Billy’s “froached egg!!” :) :)

Reply

What? I want that egg AND the shoes!! I am such a Brooks devotee, I cannot wait to try them. :) Enjoy!!

Reply

That is awesome!!
Nope my bday just passed. My my one brothers is in 3 weeks.
I do usually peek at the food labels ;)

Reply

WHOA that is awesome on so many levels. What a brilliant idea, Brooks!

Reply

well nothing is weird when you like it…but I know that some people think my peanut butter and carrot sticks (Pb as a dip) is weird-i love it though. nothing can be compared to your combos though… :)

Reply

ps-also well impressed with Brooks !

Reply

That egg is awesome…I wonder if I can make one myselk using an egg mold and dark cholcolate melted into it. Only problem- I don’t have either of those.

I used to check nutrtiion labels religiously and had to estimate or know how many calories were in something- like a meal out with my family. I was in a bad place at that time and have come a long way. I still check labels, but not obsessively. I like to (try) to healthy so sometimes I just want to know.

I hope those shoes make your run DYNAMITE!!!
Have a Terrific Thursday!! :)

Reply

My birthday is tomorrow :) the big 23!

Reply

Ahhhh happy birthday tomorrow! I hope you have the best day ever!

Reply

My birthday is Saturday!! Woot, woot!

That egg is incredible! I would make myself sick eating it too quickly. LOL

Reply

That has got to be the best packaging in the WORLD!!!!!

I love that it says, “Calores : (Infinity Symbol)” – so cute!

Reply

That is seriously the greatest package ever. I am more than a little jealous. I love brooks!

Reply

That is one of the most awesome things I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like roasted cauliflower with ketchup and always check food labels.

Reply

The picture of Brooke sleeping and the other babies chatting is hilarious. Love it. Those Brooks look awesome too. New running shoes are always fun! I give you two days to finish the chocolate!

Reply

Weird? Never! Because I honestly think that combo sounds amazing and I will not stop craving it until I recreate it!

The picture of Brooke zonked out is too cute. So is the one of her next to the egg. THAT EGG! Putting awesome running shoes inside of a chocolate egg?! So random and so awesome. Is that something they usually fo for all their ambassadors or just HRG?! I would just dip that thing in PB and be set for life.

Congrats to your bro. What a great accomplishment.

I look at nutrition labels. I mean. I want to know what I am putting my body. I look at the at the store so I can make better choices. But I don’t count calories. Does that make sense? And most of the treats I eat are homemade, but I would never figure out the calories on them. That would just ruin my enjoyment ;)

My half birthday is one week from today. And half birthdays are totally legit in my world.

Enjoy your run today in your new shoes!

Reply

Haha omigosh I don’t know which picture made me laugh harder… the one of Brooke conked out during playtime or the one with her and the giant egg. Wow. That seriously is an awesome package though. And definitely no judgment here for the weird food combos, because I’ve been known to come up with some pretty strange ones myself… hummus and applesauce come to mind, as does a cheese/avocado/pumpkin/apple wrap.

Reply

Coolest.gift.ever!! Jealous times a million…

Reply

omg, omg, omg! I am BEYOND excited about your new running shoes! I am seriously in love with Brooks’ Pure Project shoes, not to mention I’ve PR’ed in every race since I’ve started wearing them. This post just made my entire day!!!

Love your blog, your humor, and your cheerfulness. Keep running happy!

Reply

Hahaha! That is SO cool!

Reply

I can’t decide what’s more amusing. a) the picture of Brooke passed out at the park b) the nutritional information on the egg. Hahaha. “Number of Facebook likes…….?”

Reply

I was cracking up at all of these pictures this morning, Brooke passed out at the park is so hilarious! And that is probably the best gift ever… I am a sucker for looking at nutrition labels..on almost everything I eat!

Reply

How hilarious that there were running shoes in that egg – I would have NEVER guessed!!!

Reply

Oh my word! That chocolate egg is crazy cool! With shoes inside of it too?? And Brooke’s expression next to the egg is too cute. Love.

Reply

Omgggg!! That is so AWESOME!!

Reply

That is seriously the best package ever!!!!

Reply

That egg is freakin AWESOME!! Makes me want to order some Brooks to see if they’ll come in an egg.

Good thing you weren’t on vacation when the egg arrived, might’ve had chocolate covered shoes then instead!!

My birthday isn’y until May 5, but my most increadible, cutest little girl turns 3 in December 5, and princess parties are way more fun then my own birthday party!

Reply

I am addicted to grapes/apples with almonds and greek yogurt. And always eat my sweet potatoes with ketchup mmmmmmmmmm. I may dip everything in anything. I’m a dipper what can I say

Reply

My weird food combinations would have to be okra with ketchup all over it (yes, it is kind of gross looking) and I love carrots dipped in mustard!

P.S Ummmmmm did you see that Bachlorette Emily and Jef broke up?! The horror! I figured you would be interested to know since you and Jef are basically bff after meeting each other!

Reply

Oh my goodness!!! Did Brooks send you that?!!! now I REALLY LOVE THEM. :) Well my birthday is next month, November 26th. Starting next week, cue: birthday season!!!! Till January! :) Lots of birthdays in my house!

Reply

What an awesome way to send the shoes!! That’s so cool!!

Reply

LOL! that’s a huge freaking egg! Love how it’s bigger than Brooke. I think she might nibble on some when you’re not looking ;)

My birthday was this past Saturday! Oct 13 :)

I check nutrition labels and ingredients. If there is a word I can’t pronounce or don’t understand, i don’t buy it. I try to ignore the calorie count, but focus on the vitamins.

Reply

That is the world’s best package! I am way jealous! I want a package like that to show up on my doorstep!

Reply

Omg I love that it really is big enough for Brooke!!! That is crazy. And congrats to your brother on passing the Bar!!

Reply

No WAY!! That looks like the very best way to receive anything and everything, and I’m not even a big chocolate fan (I understand if saying that gets me banned from your blog)!

Reply

No bday coming up.
Random food combination: Haven’t done this in a LONG time but it was toasted onion bagel with PB and chocolate chips. YUM!
I do check the NI for the most part. I won’t buy it if the serving size is ridiculous compared to the calories.

Reply

Oh.my.gosh.

You just lived a dream so glorious I didn’t even know it existed, a giant chocolate egg filled with running shoes??? I am crying from joy in he inside!

In he spirit of delicious random food I cannot sing higher praises and a baked potato with avocado and BBQ sauce!

Reply

Congrats to your brother!! You have an uber smart family!
Haha Brooke has that same crazy look in her eyes that you get around candy.
I tried on the Brooks PureFlows and loved them but I’m in the middle of training for a half & decided to stick with the Mizuno’s. But after the half I might jump ship.
I’m intolerant to dairy so I check labels for that and also for ingredients I can pronounce.

Reply

That is a crazy awesome package you received! What’s better than 8lbs of chocolate and a new pair of sneakers?? Not much….except Brooke maybe :)

Congrats you your brother, that’s such a great accomplishment!

Reply

Haha oh my gosh that egg sitting next to Brooke cracks me up! That is sweet it had new running shoes in it. I think I will try out the Brooks shoes you love next time I am shopping for new running shoes.

No birthday coming up for me, I am a June baby so I still have a while. I feel like I’m getting old though, so tha’ts okay with me.

I checked every food label before I got pregnant but stopped when I was pregnant and still am not as aware as I was before.

Reply

I would be stoked for that package! I check labels constantly. Mostly for ingredients. We don’t buy anything with preservatives, dyes, high fructose corn syrup, ect.

Reply

I love Brooke’s facial expressions. Too cute!

Reply

Holymoly— I’ve always wondered what dinosaur eggs look like! Now we know!! :)

Reply

Yes! My bday is next Friday, 10.26! Wheee!

Reply

That is the coolest wrapping ever!! :D
Regarding the first commenters question about if you found a costume for Brooke yet, you have to see this:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/alannaokun/19-creative-costumes-for-babies-who-are-too-young
I saw #8 the other day and obviously thought of you guys :) There are a few other ideas that are completely adorable as well, but I mean, come on!

Reply

I wany a giant chocolate egg filled with running shoes! How can I make that happen?

Reply

That egg is enormous! I love the photo of Brooke right next to it. I can’t imagine that it will last through the weekend.

Reply

WHOA!! That is amazing!! Love it :)

Love that pic with Brooke asleep & the kids playing. Bahahah

Reply

Oh my goodness that egg is HUGE! I love it! I especially love the picture with Brooke giving it the evil eye. So cute!

My birthday was last month, but I’m up for celebrating year-round! :)

All my food combinations are weird – anything sweet and salty go together in my book! Pb and cheese? Sure. Bacon and honey? Of course! The weirder the better!

Reply

The egg next to Brooke is hilarious. I always check the labels before I buy something, but it is kind of necessary since I’m lactose intolerant and my husband has a gluten intolerance.

Reply

Happy birthday to your brother!

That egg is awesome, I hope the shoes work out well!

Reply

Hahaha- That is hilarious! Ultra sweet bonus of blogging! Can you imagine how much that thing would cost?

I’m a big time label reader. Simple is good.

Reply

Ok Janae, your retirement is MADE. You totally just need to sell Brooks that photo of Brooke next to the egg! She will MAKE everyone buy those shoes because she is SO stinking cute!! :D I LOVE it! Or you could sell it to Hallmark to make Easter cards with :D
Love you & your cute family!

Reply

I actually laughed out loud in that picture with the babies making friends. I was scrolling down and didn’t understand what you meant by Brooke conking out… and then I scrolled down more and saw her! HAHAHHA you girls are both hilarious :D
WOW. That is definitely the coolest package to receive anytime, anywhere.
I’m thinking of getting new running shoes (for long distance). I’ll have to look into these Brooks PureProjects!

Reply

That chocolate egg is crazy!! Reminds me of those 5lb gummy bears. My birthday was just in June so not really coming up. I usually do check the nutrition facts, only because I’m trying to lose weight and it really is all about the nutrition facts and portion control.

Reply

WOW that IS the best package EVER!!!
I am obsessed with new shoes lately…I need to pull in the reigns and NOT look at how beautiful the new shoes in your hands are :)
I will put them on my Christmas list! ;)
I hope you’re having a great Thursday beautiful friend!
xoxo!

Reply

ah! that is the coolest package!! SO much chocolate though haha
-food label question: when I’m grocery shopping I check almost all the labels, mostly looking at the ingredients since that’s more important to me than the specific number of calories, protein, etc.

Reply

Wow that is so fun to get shoes in an egg!!

Reply

Ooo, how exciting! I just got my first pair of Brooks PureFlows. They, unfortunately, came in an ordinary shoebox :-)

Reply

The photos on this post with Brooke and the egg are my favorite ever.

Reply

That egg is HUGE!
I check the nutritional facts on milk, penut butter, cookies.. I only look at them because I get bored at the table and they’re in front of me. I can’t imagine how many times I’ve read every single word on the milk carton!

Your weird sandwich inspired what I’m going to eat tonight; salmon tartar with guac covered toasted bread. We’re both weird!

Reply

Ok at first I was like “Ew who would send u a stale chocolate egg from Easter?” But that was obviously not the case haha! Those shoes r gorgeous. I want :).

Reply

My birthday is next Tuesday! Wahoo!

Reply

Congratulations to your brother! I check nutrition labels constantly.

Reply

Brooke’s facial expressions crack me up! The picture of her looking at that giant egg was hilarious! Keep the pictures coming! I love seeing her cute face on the blog everyday :)

Reply

that is pure heaven you just got there!

Reply

I LOVE dipping my sandwiches in ketchup! Doesn’t matter what’s in the sandwich, I still do it :)
I look at food labels too much. I’m addicted to counting calories :( Even though I run lots I don’t dare let myself go over my ‘limit’. It sucks!
How do you manage to eat so much without worrying about the calories?! I know you run lots, but I’ve learnt for me that even though I run loads I can’t eat whatever I want. Do you have an idea of how many you eat?

Reply

My birthday is TOMORROW!! Yayayayaaah! My dad, bro, and I are flying up to see my oldest brother in Seattle and throw my sis-in-law a baby shower!! It’s gonna be such a fun weekend! Oh yeah, and they’re taking me on a tour of a chocolate factory in Seattle! (wonder if they make ginormous eggs??)

Weird food combo? Vanilla yogurt and peanut butter…..ketchup and bbq sauce with french fries……I don’t get too weird, I guess?

I almost always check food labels….it’s a sick/smart habit

Reply

I love Cool Whip with… anything! Pretzels, applesauce, nutella, peanut butter, granola, whatever.

Reply

I’m so jealous of your giant chocolate egg with shoes inside! Wow! The look on Brooke’s face is so cute looking at that egg. How did you survive at the park with all those cute baby feet? I love baby feet so much.

Reply

omg that egg is amazing! i LOVE the Brooks Pure line…just bought my second pair of Pure Connects for my next marathon!

Reply

Hey Brooks people! If I start running really fast like Janae, can you send me one of those awesomeness too?? Thank you and have a nice day!!

Reply

I’d offer to come help you eat it, but I think by the time I make it to CA you’ll have it gone. LOL LOVE the picture of Brooke looking afraid of it! So hilarious!

Reply

Yes!!! My birthday is TOMORROW!!!(:

Reply

How are these different than my Pure Cadence shoes (which I am obsessed with) and how do I convince Brooks to send me eggs full of shoes?!

Reply

THAT EGG IS SO COOL! Chocolate eggs > cardboard shoes boxes, I think all shoe companies should adopt this strategy. Actually I think the postal service should too. More people would send packages if they came in a chocolate shell (:

Reply

19,000 calories?!?!?! What an awesome way to get shoes!

Reply

IS THIS FOR REAL?????? Holy cow, I have never seen something made out of chocolate that big before. That is RIDICULOUS! Can you even bite it?? It looks so thick! I’m sooooo jealous of the shoes!!

Reply

That IS the best package in the world. I cannot imagine something more wonderful than chocolate and running shoes!

Reply

O M G! This is probably the best combination EVER! Chocolate AND running shoes in one package!? I’m speechless! :)

Reply

Brooke’s faces are always SO cute, but these might be some of my favorite ever! I also love the picture of her sleeping instead of meeting the babies.

Reply

I don’t know how in the world I missed this post but that is the
Oat awesome thing ever!!! Brooks
Must really love you to send you shoes in an 8 poun chocolate egg. It’s just insane really:) love it!!!!!
