Floating baby and reasons to run

Floating Baby

I am embarrassed to tell you how long I was laughing about this picture and that I was crying from laughing so hard.   Hopefully Brooke thinks we are funny someday too.

At about seven we went over to our new friends’ house for the best dinner ever.

Mexican food is by far my favorite.

IMG 4158

She made incredible sweet potato and black bean burritos.  These things were amazing and I definitely went back for more.

IMG 4161

Below is the worst picture in the history of HRG (okay, actually I can think of at least 22 posts where I have said the exact same thing about a picture that I took) but I had to show you this guac from TJ’s… it is now ranked #1 on my personal list of best guacamole that I have been compiling over the last 5 years.

IMG 4160

She also made an incredible dessert.  The brownies has zucchini in them so that makes them 100% healthy, definitely got my veggies in for the week with this meal.

IMG 4163

Dessert was followed by a game that I am still clueless how to play.  Something about trains and countries and bridges.  I’ll stick with Monopoly, those rules I understand.

IMG 4164

Last but not least were some awesome youtube videos.  It is amazing what people come up with (coming from the girl that creates floating baby pictures).

Reasons to get out and run today:

1.  For that feeling after a run when you sit down to stretch and have a huge sense of accomplishment and realize that you are quite possibly the coolest human being alive.

2.  To refuel with something delicious.

3.  To start your week off with endorphins, sweat, fresh air and to relieve some stress.

4.  Go run to get a little faster, go a little longer and get a little closer to one of your goals.

5.

Fill in number 5 for me and why you should get out and run?!?

What was the last board game that you played?

What healthified desserts have you made?  Do you ever sneak veggies into desserts?

Are you a sweet potato fan? How often do you eat them?

5. to solve my life (and if I am ambitious world) problems ;) Running is great thinking time for me!

My goal today is to see if I can safely bike with my injury so hopefully it accomplishes the same things :)

5. Because today I start training for my first race since I broke my foot! So excited.

I play Pictionary for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was fun but I am NOT a good drawer.

This weekend I made whole wheat all-bran muffins. They come out SO good. I substituted pureed pumpkin for the oil and they were so soft and delicious. My daughter didn’t even know they were healthy! (I’m sure it helps she put a glob of Nutella on them. lol)

I am a HUGE sweet potato fan. In fact, I have wraps and black beans and that just might be on the menu tonight!

5. You are a nice much nicer/patient wife and mom afterwards;-)

I have shredded about 100 zucchini this summer so yes, I sneak zucchini in everything.

I couldn’t agree more with you on #5! I too am grumpy if I don’t get in a run AND even twice as grumpy if my hubby gets a run in and I don’t!

I have never did the fruit/veggie baked into desserts… but I think that will change when my almost 7mo old gets older hehhehe

5. To be able to listen to some fun music and just have some time to take in your new home.

I can’t remember the last board game that I played, but my nephew is obsessed with playing cards, so for months now, whenever we hang out, the kid makes me play Speed, Nertz, or War until my hands cramp up. Thank goodness he’s my favorite person in the world. :) But my sister did buy him another card game called Spot It! that is completely awesome. It’s basically like I Spy with cards.

I’ve made black bean brownies a few times and I’m always surprised by how good they are! You basically get a box of your favorite brownie mix and a can of black beans. You dump the black beans in a blender and blend until completely smooth — the mixture ends up kind of looking like a chocolate shake. You mix the pureed black beans with the brownie mix and then bake according to package directions. You leave out the oils, eggs, etc — you just use the beans the brownie mix. They come out dense and fudgy. Really good!

I love that picture of Brooke! Before I read the post, I was trying to figure out how the heck you did it!! So funny!

We used to play Monopoly and Life all the time! I should bust out the board games again! :)

5. Because it finally feels like fall!

5. To be able to have “me” time and feel less guilty than if I did something else! My husband hates that runs take so long, but he can’t run that far so he doesn’t complain :-)

Reply

Ah I ran this morning and all those reasons are SO true…and for number 5: Run because you CAN…and for those who aren’t able to currently :)!

Reply

That’s what I was going to say! I had surgery in June and had to stop running in March because of doctor’s orders. When I found out I could start running again this summer, NOTHING kept me from going out again, not even the rainstorm that hit that day. To have an ability or a potential and not use it is a waste no longer worth my time.

5. Because my husband noticed the crankiness creeping in on me while trying to get the five kiddos bathed and organized for school the next day and suggested maybe I should just go for a run instead. 15k done, just long enough to be sure he had them all cleaned up, school prepped, and ready for bed!

Reply

That picture of Brooke is hilarious. Something that my husband and I would spend the better part of the day doing, too!

Reply

Ticket to ride! I LOVE that game. It’s so much fun, but definitely takes a few times to really get the hang of it!

5. To sit in my sweats for the rest of the evening with no guilt!

Reply

HA! I love that picture. I miss being able to run/jog/hike. I did the trails only, but can’t due to a recent diagnosis of scoliosis in my lower back.

Mexican food is favorite too. Like I think I can eat some form of it every day.

I love the game Ticket to Ride. We have the Europe one and want to get the other versions too.

I don’t like veggies in my desserts unless it’s carrot cake.

I love sweet potatoes especially cooked in coconut oil with cinnamon and sugar on top.

I just woke up and did a hill work out, and am now sipping a delicious smoothie while reading your post! I’m doing some speed workouts this week for my 5k on Sunday- hoping to go sub 20!

5. To finish my lat week of training before my half marathon on Sunday!

5. To get that blood flowing and to get nature’s Prozac I am needing.

Not really a board game, but I played taboo and it was so fun.

I make healthified ice cream cake that is yummy, but I’ve never put veggies into dessert. The idea of that scares me to be honest.

Reply

5. Because I’m 20 weeks pregnant and I will keep going as long as I can :)

I can not stop laughing at the floating Brooke pic. Great photoshop skills!
#5 to run off all of the weekend calories!

Reply

Your #5 = Agreed.

Because I am up for anything that gives me perma-grin this intensely.

After a long hard run I am spilling over with pride and can’t stop smiling. Then I always call Hubs and my brother to tell them about it because they are super supportive and always build me up. Love them and running.

Reply

Floating baby cracked me up! Awesome photoshop skills :)
5. Because you can. If you’re not injured, run. Remember how hard it is to see everyone running when you can’t!

I love me some sweet potato fries! I bet they’d be good dipped in that guac!

Reply

I LOATHE Ticket to Ride–Worst.Game.Ever. and it’s super popular with NorCal LDS folk! i swear we play it every time we go to dinner at a member’s house. i pray the kids fight so i can be referee instead. and that pic is epic.

Reply

I love Ticket to Ride! It’s actually quite easy to learn how to play.

Wil Wheaton explains it rather well in this video:

5. To prepare for my first half marathon…less than 2 weeks away!

I played Carcassone this weekend at a youth leaders retreat. It’s pretty fun once you get the hang of it! I prefer games with no strategy though :)

I’ve made a dessert before that’s like a huge chocolate chip cookie pie except it uses ground up chickpeas. It’s really good!

Reply

hahaha I love the floating baby :D
Get out and run so you are in a better mood all day!

Reply

It’s cool if I use the floating baby pic as my FB profile pic right?! I was crackin up laffin and I have a job interview today and I really hope I don’t think of that picture while I’m in there b/c I’ll have to awkwardly excuse myself.

Reply

This post was just what I needed to get motivated today! I got up and ran 2 miles and feel 100% better about everything!

And my number 5 reason was to get ready for the Susan G. Komen race for the cure 10k here in Cincinnati at the end of the month.

Reason 5…run because my next half is in five weeks and I’ll cry my heart out if I don’t go sub-two!!!

I LOVE sweet potatoes so much. And I love the pic of Brooke floating. Hilarious.

5. Because the temps are dropping (finally) and my goal is to BQ in December! I hate to even put that out there but go big or go home right!?! :)

TICKET TO RIDE! ITS AWESOME. That is a huge group to play with though, go back over and play with them again and I promise you will be a TTR lover. We LOVE IT.

5. Because it is finally fall and not so ridiculously hot all of the time now!

Reply

Hahaha my first thought about that floating baby picture is “omg did they mount something on the wall that holds the baby up while they’re doing stuff?” I’m really smart, I swear;) I wish I knew how to use Photoshop!! It looks too fun, and I’d probably waste all of my time making hilarious pictures like that. You should frame floating Brooke and continue to freak out your neighbors hahaha.

Reply

I totally thought the same thing! Lucky I am not a parent, I’d hang the kid up all day long some could giggle at them :)

Reply

I am a HUGE sweet potato fan and am quite intrigued by this sweet potato black bean idea! Looks delicious!
OPPA, GANGNAM STYLE.
It’s weird because I’m Korean so it makes sense for us to know it… but I’ve been hearing it on the radio these days! WEIRD.

Reply

5. Because I CAN!! There are so many people out there that for whatever reason can’t run. I feel so blessed for everyday that I can run!!

Btw, Brooke is the cutest little baby girl! I sure hope I get to meet her when we are in San Fran for the marathon :)

Reply

5. Because it’s waaaaaay more fun than packing! :)

I sneak zucchini into double chocolate zucchini bread, and carrots into carrot cake, but I don’t even try to hide it, so I’m not sure that’s ‘sneaking’. My new favorite ‘veggie hiding’ is actually savory: Mixing some grated zucchini into tuna salad, to keep it moist and up the veggie quotient. You don’t even notice it!

Just played Settlers last week. It’s a fun game, but it’s a pain to learn….

Reply

HAHAHA!! the floating baby picture is amazing!!!

Reply

That dinner looks/sounds awesome! I love sweet potatoes, black beans, and zucchini desserts! Why wasn’t I invited?! Hah :)

I like ticket to ride–it’s way fun if you play with people who are fun, I guess.

#5 Because running is a great way to sweat out your stress!

Reply

Love the photoshop, lol!
#5 – dig deep and face the challenge…the reward is priceless
I check out Chocolate Covered Katie’s blog/website a lot…she has a lot of healthier desserts that are very, very good. The deep dish cookie pie is actually made with garbanzo beans…it’s really good though, I promise…my husband even fell in love with this “healthier” option, lol. I think I want to make Mexican food tonight! ;)

Reply

Thanks for posting the reasons to run! It motivated me to start my week with a great sweat. Another reason for me is to have peace of mind. I always seem to solve my problems while on a run.

Reply

I LOVE floating Brooke… How did you do that, I want to give Livi some flying wings too!

Reply

Hahaha great Photoshop job!!

Reply

#5 because everyone needs some alone time, especially when you’ve been home all day with a baby and a sick little boy :)

5. because you never regret a run
And I totally laughed for about 5 minutes at your ‘floating’ baby pic. :)

Reply

5. To prepare for Ragnar this weekend by shaking out my legs from my double long runs this weekend.

The last board game I played IS the one you have a picture of up there. I can’t remember the name of it because it has been a few years. My ex boyfriend and I used to play it together when we were bored at home. I got the hang of it and beat his Mensa-certified behind. ;-)

Welcome to California, where the Mexican food is the absolute best outside of Mexico itself. You have to visit one of those taco trucks and get a few little tacos that are $1 each. Don’t worry, the trucks have to pass health codes too so they are as legit as a restaurant. And they have burritos too!

Oh, PS…

I laughed out loud when I saw your pic of Brooke floating!! I am a graphic designer/illustrator so I understand the time consuming aspect of photo editing!

Reply

Ah! I LOVE Ticket to Ride! (that’s the game you played) soooo much fun. We play it at my families gaming parties :)

The floating baby picture is hilarous. it took me a second to figure out that it was photoshopped. lol.

#5. get out and run now because you’ll regret not doing it later. . . .

Reply

That picture is crazy looking!

I love mexican too! But I’ve never had sweet potatoes in my burrito.

5. because the weather is finally nice!

I playbed Harry Potter Scene It last week.

Yeah, no healthy desserts over here….but I did make some delicious s’mores bars last week!

I like sweet potato fries, but I don’t have them very often.

Reply

The last board game I played was Monopoly on Saturday night with a couple friends. I was the first one out, but it was fun to see who ended up winning.

Reply

I ran this morning because I CAN!!!!!!!!!! After taking a week off because of my IT band, running this morning felt so so so so very good! It just felt right. The wonderful fall weather didn’t hurt either.

Reply

5. To have a reason for a nap later.

Reply

#5. To feel the breeze on my face, breathe the fresh air, and bask in the sunlight.

Love sweet potato — try to have it at least 3-4 times a week. Can’t even remember the last board came that I played (unless Twister counts?! I think it was Twister if it does!). As for healthified desserts — I’m a huge fan of avocado cocoa banana pudding/”faux”-yo.

Reply

Hey we have that game! LOL My son loves it. It’s not that hard but it does take a bit to figure it out since it’s not the typical board game.

Glad you had fun w/ your friends. I too think the floating baby pic is hilarious.

Reply

5. Because i’m learning to be proud of my body, and what it can accomplish.

I am a sweet potato fan!!! I absolutely love them in any way/shape/form. As for baking with veggies- nope, never tired. I did replace oil with applesauce in my dad’s birthday cake over the weekend! He had no idea – HA!

Reply

5. You should run simply because you can. There are many who can’t run because of injury, out of shape, intimidated, older, unmotivated, you name it. If you can run, you should run. Show your gratitude for your healthy body and strong legs by using them!

Is that game settlers of cattan? I am so terrible at that game.

I wish we had more friends around here to hang out and have taco night!

You HAVE to try Roberto’s guac and/or salsa, made in Santa Cruz, and the BEST store bought guac I have ever had, the carry it at Whole Foods. Trader Joe’s Pineapple mango salsa is pretty sick too, considering I HATE papaya and cilantro, yet I looove this salsa.

She is just beautiful, and you are awesome Janae. I love how all of your posts are so positive and uplifting. I’m thinking of leaving Australia to move closer to you….

Honestly, I’m not a crazy stalker…..

The floating baby photo is cracking me up! It’s way more fun than any baby photos from my childhood.

Love the photo hahah

5. Because you’re not going to get better by sitting on the couch!

I do not sneak veggies into dessert, but it’s something I want to try in the future. I like veggies…a lot. So I have no problem eating them. I need to learn how to sneak fruit into things, I’m not a big fruit eater. We’re having mexican tomorrow! I’ve never thought of putting sweet potato in mexican food. Will have to try! I never really like sweet potatoes until I tried sweet potato fries in a restaurant a few years ago. Now I love it :)

I’m not going to lie–that pic cracks me up too! Plus Brooke is so adorable!! :)

5. To SLOWLY get back into running after a huge rut and a case of the nasty old PF.

I miss playing board games. I love that you have a group of friends already even though you just moved. I really wish I had that in my new apartment complex/city.

Sweet potatoes are the bomb digggity.

Oh my goodness. I could not help but laughing so hard at the picture and description of Brooke floating!!! My boyfriend was sitting next to me and was so confused by my laughter. I showed him without explaining anything and he cracked up too. Well done!

5. To be hungry enough to eat that pot of pasta that I’ve been dreaming about since last time I ran.

Reply

Haha, my friend’s husband LOVES that game and accuses everyone of cheating and sings “TICKET TO RIIIIIIDE” everytime it’s his turn. I play simply to hear him sing that, and it’s usually stuck in my head the rest of the day! :)

Reply

5. Because the sun is shining and it won’t be long until we’re stuck in the middle of a cold wet winter and can’t enjoy the warm rays beating down on us.

I love sweet potatoes. I like to roast them in the oven with onions and toss it with kale and balsamic dressing and walnuts. It’s tasty.
