Sub 2 hour MARATHON and cookie dough paradise

Workout:  Pump class (it is amazing how hard lifting weights is after not doing it for 1.5 weeks.  After pump I ran 4 miles on my treadmill while watching The Bachelorette.  I am literally torn between her options, I think I am actually having a harder time than Emily is throughout this selection process.

I have now turned into a charity case after announcing my challenge to not spend money on food.  People know about my deep love/passion/obsession that I have for food so now they just offer to take me out.  I promise sister-in-law, once this challenge is over I will be taking you out to the fanciest restaurant ever to repay you for taking you to my favorite restaurant.

I tried a new sandwich this time, the turkey and coleslaw sandwich.  I liked this one even better than my normal club.  They really have perfected their bread, crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. They also have tzatziki spread which is my favorite sandwich topping ever.

Then she forced me to fill up a cup with vanilla custard and top it with marshmallows, caramel and cookie dough.  It has been way too long since I have had froyo.  Whenever I go through old archives on my blog I notice that I used to eat froyo 5 times a week on average, I sure miss those days.

I want to steal her.  The SIL that I went out with today is the one that I set my brother up with.  Today we were talking all about how amazing it is how things work out sometimes.  She was literally placed right in front of me (in the spin class I used to teach) and we became best friends and then set her up with my brother.  Since my brother is now a patent lawyer I am convinced that he and Billy must start a firm together after Billy graduates just so I can see her all of the time.

Anyone else hear about the Utah guy claiming that he will break the 2-hour marathon.  His current PR is a 2:16 but he is convinced that through hard core training with a 40 lb weighted vest that he will be able to break 2 hours?!?

A little more about his method of training:

He sounds pretty darn sure about this.   Click on the picture above for the full story.

Do you think anyone will ever break the 2 hour marathon?

Anyone else weight train today or yesterday?  What muscle groups did you focus on?

Bachelorette fans…who are you wanting to win?  Are you feeling torn too?

Do you get along with your brother and sister-in-laws?  Do you hang out with them often?

ahh I know what you mean about coming back to pump! Everytime I miss a week (or more!) I am scared/excited to come back because I know how sore I will be.

crazily enough i think soon it will be sub 2 hours-but by a kenyan! :)

Hitting the weights again after a vacay or hiatus is always tough. It’s amazing what happens in that short amount of time. Hmmmm.

I LOVE that sandwich place! SO good.

I say more power to the guy–if he thinks he can, let him try. But boy, that is TOUGH (under 2 hours?!)

Reply

He would be a machine if he did! Unbelievable!
Doing weights tonight, back and biceps day :)
I have a sister-in-law I get along great with but we do not see each other too often!

That just blew my mind – the statement about running a 4:34 WITH a 40lb vest on. This guy has got mad determination!! That’s is amazing. I hope he does it. That would be friggen fantastic.

I had already planned to run before reading this post, but now I’m like, “I need to get to that treadmill, ASAP!!!!”

Reply

I do body pump at my Y…sounds a bit like your class…and yes, if I miss a week (like I will be doing next week while up north) it feels like I have missed a month…the muscles are wondering what hit them.

Reply

That guy sounds a little bit crazy to me. I can’t even imagine running a 4:34 mile ever, let alone with a 40lb vest on, craziness! But if he can find a way to do it, more power to him.

I can’t wait to have lots of brothers and sisters-in law! I have 3 younger brothers and 1 younger sister, none of whom are married yet, but I look forward to the day. I sure hope we’ll get along and be able to hang out often!

Wouldn’t adding 40lbs to his body make him more injury prone? Or mess with his form? It kind of sounds more like a pitch for funding than anything.

Reply

Um… I’m pretty sure that’s not gonna happen for that guy. Maybe I need to believe in him like he does in himself… but a 5 year old PR is hard enough to duplicate at the age of 35. Beating that by 16+ minutes? I seriously doubt it!

I think it will happen soon though- just probably not by him :)

WOW! What a crazy workout routine! A 40lb vest! That is some serious dedication.

For my workouts, yesterday I did the rowing machine for the first time. Holy back and biceps, I am sore. I thought my legs would be sore but they weren’t….so today I did 25 minutes on the elliptical, 4 sets of 30 speed squats and 3 sets of shoulder press and triceps.

mmm I love cookie dough.. I’m really loving this idea of telling people I’m not spending any money on food.. though I’m thinking that cute baby belly of yours gets you those freebies :)

I weight-trained yesterday! Focus was on the arms, and oh boy am I feeling it today!!

He’s not breaking 2 hours!!!
Unless he’s going to jump out of an airplane 26.2 miles up and count that as his marathon – it’s all just a publicity stunt :-)

I think even the current generation of top-notch marathon runners (the guys running 2:03-2:04) are still a world away from the 2:00 barrier.

I love my BIL and we get along great! Your niece is CUTE!

I was JUST thinking about this today. I DO believe your SIL was there at the right time for you two to meet. I met my now husband in detension (LOL) back in high school. We didn’t date but knew a lot of the same people. Then five year later I saw him at a party and he was friends with my then boyfriend. Boyfriend and I split up a month later and I called my now Husband to ask him out and as they say the rest is history! 10 year later we’re still together.

Which Wich is my FAVORITE sandwich place! There’s one right down the street from my work and I’m really sad I’m moving, because I have no idea if there’s one in my new town! Speaking of, I have a punch card and it’s full, so I get a free sandwich! I should definitely take advantage of that before I move. I probably won’t have time though :( Feel like a free sandwich?

I was a big Hobie Call fan until reading about him in RW. He’s an amazing Spartan racer, but he also wants to be sponsored so badly that he sounds almost like a charity case. I still think he’s amazing, but what does he think those Kenyans do…sit around all day!?

Do you ever get those popping candy thingies on your ice cream? YUM.

I think a sub-2 will happen, but not by this guy. I think it will probably be broken by someone who is proven to run marathons in the low twos, not 16 minutes outside of two hours.

Reply

Whoa, a sub 2 hour marathon! That is speedy! It sounds like this guy has the perfect mind set to accomplish this goal. I believe once you convience your mind you are capable of doing great things. I would love to see him make it happen!

Bachelorette fan here! I am routing for Jef with one F. I have adored him since day one! I did however love Sean. He was perfect! My heart broke a little when she sent him home….

Reply

Interesting. Actually, i think this guy can do it! remember, doctors said it was physically impossible to run a mile in under 4 minutes. Then one person ran it in under 4 minutes, and all of a sudden hundreds of other people could too. It’s as much mental as physical, i believe =)

Haha. That RW thing is hilarious! I just trained for and ran (and won) the Bataan Memorial Death March Marathon in New Mexico this year — while wearing a weighted pack. We had to carry at least 35 pounds, my pack weighed in over 40. I trained with a vest so I’d be more balanced, but wore a pack during the race as req’d. I wasn’t running 4:34 miles with the vest, but I was moving faster than my weighted race pace (and slower than my Boston race pace, which I can use for comparison from a year earlier). I ran the marathon with the weight, and then actually thought I’d be a lot faster w/o the weight. NOT! Running with weight for so many months seemed to damage my cardio fitness, and that more than offset any muscle strength I gained. Now a few months post-marathon, still training regularly, and I still don’t think I’m back to Boston race pace. This guy is going to have a RUDE awakening I think! But that said, I do think we’ll see sub-2 in the next 20-40 years.

I think eventually someone will break the 2 hour marathon but I don’t think it’s going to be by the way he thinks… but maybe he will prove me wrong! Last I checked all of the elite runners believed in themselves too… I don’t think that they haven’t broke the 2 hour marathon based on lack of faith. I didn’t weight train yesterday but today I will be doing legs. I don’t watch the Bachelor or the Bachelorette but all your posts about it are sure making me think it’s something I might have to pick up! I get along with my BIL and SIL really well. We used to hang out quite a bit when they lived closer.

I did body weight circuits yesterday morning and I am SORE after taking a week off for vacation! I am weight training tonight in my SHRED class, and it will most definitely be a challenge for me.

Daniel is the youngest of seven kids (SEVEN!), so I have a ton of in-law siblings. I like all of them, and there are a couple that have become my very best friends!

Reply

Bachelorette fan! I really thought Sean was perfect for Emily, and didn’t really see it working out long term with the other guys. I hope I’m wrong though!

Reply

Ryan for sure! I don’t like the Arie guy. I was super surprised she got rid of Sean. I think she is going to choose Arie and be sorry for it in the long run. Yes I feel totally crazy talking about these complete strangers like I know anything at all about them…

Reply

I think someone will, if they are only 3 minutes from breaking it then someone’s gotta break it next year. That is the guy who always wins the Spartan Race, he is a beast!

Reply

TEAM JEF!!! GO JEF!!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!!

I hope that guy breaks 2 hours. He seems so determined :)

Reply

I really like BOTH of them…..like Janae said but to be honest in last nights episode Jeff really had me….he just needs to fix his hair ;)

You’re right Nicole….Ari seems like he just has sexual chemistry with her….if it was me I would’ve given him the fantasy suite key and then picked Jeff for the end ;P lol

Reply

Um, I want to break a 2 hour half marathon haha. I hope he breaks it though, that would be insane!

I went to a Chisel class yesterday so it was a total body strength workout. Loved it!

Reply

Ugh, I was so annoyed by The Bachelorette. Girl made the wrong choice (but at least that means Sean is single now, lol).

I’m in awe of people who can set such records for running. I’m a newbie, so the prospect of even entering a marathon gives me palpitations. Running a sub 2 hour race? Holy mackerel, that would be pretty cool if he could do it.

What an accomplishment to run that fast!! Go Him!!
I haven’t done my workout yet today. I did an evening run last night….a little more than 4 miles. I’m hoping to get another night run in again….So much better than running in this crazy heat!

As far as being a fellow Bachellorett fan…… I read the spoilers so I know who wins Emily’s heart….. but regardless of this….I think Jef is the best choice for her no matter who she picks! That would be so awesome for Emily to live in SLC!!! And how fun that you got to meet him! However, Arie and Emily have this amazing chemistry. But I wonder if that’s all they have and could that be enough for her?? We’ll see, I guess! :O)

Reply

I am so utterly in love with one-f Jef. I want it to be him, and if she doesn’t choose him, I will be so sad. They seem so perfect for each other!!

Reply

I would love it if he did! as that would be pretty sweet. I love the idea of him running a 4:37 mile in a 40lb vest. WOW! now he just has to add 25.2 more and he’s ready!

Reply

I worked on my thighs today, and had the shakes until well after lunch, haha.

I get along great with my brother in law…we hang out lots, along with my sister.

Reply

That would be impressive as hell if he does…and it’s great he has all that confidence…perhaps that is the extra oomph he needs to break 2. I did chest and back today…I just started incorporating strength training into my workout regimen this month. I am hoping it will help burn some fat and lean me out which in turn will hopefully help with my running. I see my BIL and SIL every so often. I just went to a magic show and dinner in NYC with my SIL and in-laws which was nice. We’re kind of spread out so it’s hard but we also stay in touch via Facebook and text. Glad you got a yummy sandwich!!! :o)

I have never been to WichWich but am dieing to try it! The creator of the chain graduated from MSU with my same degree! He came in and watch my entrepreneur class give presentations and gave us feed back, hes a pretty cool guy!!!

A 2hour marathon sounds a little hardcore. I think if he is training hard enough he may just do it. Or he will be insanely close to 2 hours. Weight training, I may go grab some weights after work tonight. I start a boot camp next week, so I gotta prep some of my muscles.

Reply

funny story …. that guy is my cousin! he is pretty hard core huh! he flies all around the country for spartan races, visited my parents last year in florida! oh and im craving frozen yogurt so bad now!

Reply

I was so bummed Emily let Sean go last night, I immediately looked up spoilers so I *think* I know who wins!

Reply

Well only time will tell with Hobie I suppose. I think it’s great that he is so confident, but I do think he needs to also be realistic. Dropping from 2:16 to sub 2 is going to take a lot more work then running with a weighted pack. And in the mean time while he is testing out this method there are dozens of other guys so much closer to that point working just as hard to get there.

But I always think its better to dream big and live boldly then play it safe.

Reply

I have serious doubts about Call’s approach to a sub-2:00 marathon, but I give him serious props for having such confidence!

I’ve never done a body pump class, but would LOVE to try one out at our YMCA some time. I suppose I should actually JOIN the YMCA first, instead of just hoarding the free passes they hand out every once in a while…

One of my sisters-in-law is one of my best friends! It took a couple of years to get to that point, but now we text every day and talk on the phone at least once a week. She lives way too far away, but staying in touch has never been an issue for us!

Reply

I’ll believe the sub 2-hour marathon when I see it!!

Reply

-breaking a sub 2-hour marathon sounds absolutely insane, but even if he doesn’t do it I’m sure someone will someday!
-yesterday i worked lower body weights and my hamstrings and bum are screaming at me today! (made my run a little more challenging this morning haha)

Reply

I saw that article too!! I think he’s cocky and full of crap. If training with a weight vest worked than other people would already have been doing that for a loooooong time. I feel like his method is equivalent to saying that if Usain Bolt keeps running 10 second 100’s for long enough and learns how to sustain that speed that he could run a 3:20 mile. Yeah right!

Reply

This guy sure got his 15 minutes of fame! His plan sounds a little nuts to me – I understand where he’s going with it, but it doesn’t make scientific sense.

Reply

2 hour is ridiculous! I think someone will eventually break it though. Look at all of the previously though unbeatable records that have fallen this year. Ellie just beat an 18 year old record at Western States. I don’t know that I have the discipline for that though ;) I do Ashtanga Yoga for strength training had an awesome class today and yesterday :) Planning on practicing every day I need to spiritually center myself. Plus get ripped arms! Truly best strength training workout out there for runners. It gives you muscle without bulk, spiritualness and flexibility. Nothing can give you all that but yoga!

Team Jef 100% :)

Wow no words to describe that guy- I am speechless! Although you’re pretty amazing too- love how active you are so late into pregnancy! Today is a lower body weight sessions for me…can’t wait but just gotta get through the day at work!

Reply

I am so torn with the Bachelorette as well…. I LOVED Sean! As much as I love Jef too… I think Arie is definitely going to win it though. I also took a body pump class… after taking a boot camp class this morning…both were killer and I left feeling so amazing! I will definitely go back to pump!

Reply

I’m sore if I take even just a few days off Pump! It’s so bad when I travel for work, since I have no motivation to do weights on my own.

Reply

I haven’t weight trained in YEARS. I can’t imagine how sore I’d be afterwards.

Breaking a 2 hour marathon would just be insane. It’d be awesome to see, but I don’t know if it’s possible.

Reply

I read in a report that according to tests it will be possible to run a Marathon in 1.59.59 at some point but anything faster is still far away. And that would be with perfect form/speed/conditions.
He does sound very sure about the whole thing, though, so maybe it will work?

Reply

Holy crap, what a hostile interview! I know the guy is a little nutty but come on! I really felt like the interviewer was being really rude. :( But I guess they were both a little… tense. If he can do it, I’m rooting for him!

ps- I LOVE your blog:) stumbled on it about a month ago and I’m obsessed!! Can’t wait to see your little angel!

Reply

That is crazy! A sub 2 hour marathon…I can’t imagine training wtih a 40 lb vest!

Reply

A 40lb vest?!?! I can’t even imagine driving in my car with that thing on, much less running, hahahah.

Reply

Just read the whole Hobie Call interview- man that guy was defensive! It would be interesting to see his theory tested, but I don’t think it will work. Only 6 extra pounds for thd half? I don’t think that would be enough weight to make a difference. Our bodies fluctuate 5 lbs on a regular basis already. That’s just my opinion- obviously I’m no expert. Does he think he’s the only guy that trains with a weight vest? Seriously.
