New favorite running quote and my FIRST baby shower.

I stole this picture and quote off of PAM’S Facebook wall and I have been thinking about it a lot lately.  On my 7 miler this morning I realized how applicable it is to my life right now.  I am not setting prs and won’t for a while, I am getting slower each week and yet running means more to me now than ever because it allows me to be filled with endorphins and see how great life is.  Running really helps us to see things in such a positive light and realize how much we have.  Sorry to get cheesy.  9 months pregnant will do that to you a lot.

Kara said it perfectly:

After my run I had my FIRST BABY SHOWER.  How did this all come so fast?  Do pickles taste amazing to you too after a run?  I had the salad bar with pudding, fruit salad and cornbread in the background.  Oh and their delicious ice cream to top it all off.

My cutest friend Holly, that I met through spin years ago, put the shower together (PS she just ran a 1:24 at her last half-marathon) and it was perfect.   She even brought my FAVORITE pb cookies.  Not only did she bring the cookies but she brought them frozen and kept packs of ice around them so that they would stay frozen!  I even shared a few which goes to show how much I love this group of girls that I was with.

Present time with the cutest stuff for our little girl and even a few presents for me (skittles AND lemonade:).

How about everyone comes up and moves to Northern Cali and we can all stay best friends forever.  All of you reading better come to and we can have the coolest running club ever.

Now I am counting down the seconds until the Olympic Opening Ceremonies!

Do you have any running quotes that you have seen/heard lately that you are loving?

Are you watching the Olympic Ceremonies tonight?

Are you a pickle fan? Do you have a favorite kind??

My favorite running quote/ tip of all time is a Dean Karnazes quote,
I cannot remember it exactly but that’s not what is important, the message is this, “If you’re exhauseted and don’t think you can go any furthur you have two choices, 1. Stop. 2. Keep going.”
After asking myself this qhen I feel like quitting, I have NEVER stoped! He makes it sound so simple!

Reply

I am going to be trying that out on my next run, I love Dean K and that is awesome that you NEVER stopped!!!!

Reply

Let me re-phrase: I have never stopped when asking myself that question… it doesn’t always pop into my head though haha

Reply

I love this quote by Confucius and find it fits your situation quite perfectly, “It does not matter how slow you go, as long as you do not stop.” You can apply it to speed, but also obstacles that slow you down, whatever you go through and whatever slows you down, you are still persevering as long as you never give up.

Reply

Wow! Stef that is so so perfect! I love it! Thank you so much!

Bread and Butter all the way! In fact my Yia-Yia gives me a jar for my birthday every year!

Not only am I watching the Olympic Opening Ceremonies, I am taking notes so I can rewatch the highlights with my friends tomorrow night at my Olympics Party. I’ve been a ginormous Olympics fan since Mary Lou Retton nailed her vaults in 1984. This is the first Olympics I’ve watched since I started running so I am super excited for the marathon this time around. And also all of the other events.
My favorite Olympics moment is when Derek Redmond pulled his hamstring and his dad helped him finish his race. It gets me every time. Go World.

Reply

What nice and wonderful friends to give you a baby shower. Can’t blame them, cuz your so lovely.

Reply

You are so sweet Cathy! THANK YOU!! Hope you are having an amazing Friday night!

Reply

I just have to say that your salad bar pics always crack me up! It usually looks like the salad bar ingredients gathered together in a mob and just attacked your plate!
I’ll have to catch the opening ceremonies tomorrow on the web. I’m camping out tonight before the Grand Island trail half marathon. So excited to see the view there!

Reply

I think that your mob description of my salad is the best one I have ever heard! You are camping tonight… that is so awesome! Will you please let me know how your trail 1/2 marathon goes!!

Reply

It was a beautiful, wonderful race! We took a ferry out to the island just after sunrise, with loons diving around us. The event was kept small and the trails were wonderful. After 4 miles of packed road, we ran a mile on the beach/sand dunes, then had a 1 mile hill climb. But, after that tough stuff, it was just rolling, gorgeous trails through the woods and near the water. Got my post-race “ice bath” by wading into Lake Superior. Ahhhhhhhh! I hope I get to do it again; and, you should definitely add it to your ‘must do’ list!

Reply

CINDI!! I am so happy you had such an incredible race, that is awesome! I bet running on the beach was amazing (but CRAZY HARD especially with the hill after). Good job getting in the lake after. You are amazing and I am so going to do this race!

Reply

I ran a 7-miler today, too! I know that’s like an everyday thing for you, but that’s the longest I have run since February (and I’m not pregnant!;)

You always talk about the people who inspire you to be a better runner, but I just wanted to let you know HOW MUCH you inspire me (I know you can’t see me right now, but I’m holding out my arms as far as they can go to demonstrate). I know it might sound a little cheesy but I feel really blessed to have found your blog—YOU inspire me everyday to be a better runner:)

Reply

WOW, you absolutely made my day! Seriously, thank you so much Kristen for your sweet words… they mean the world to me. CONGRATULATIONS on your 7 miles today!! How did you feel after? That is so awesome, you are rocking it! Thanks again (I read your comment out loud to Billy because it made me so happy!)

Reply

How does your blog always make me simultaneously want to run & eat cookies…love it hahaha :)

Reply

Great quote!
And a plus you are fully stocked with extra candy.
I recorded the opening ceremonies to watch tomorrow morning, can’t wait!
I’m super excited for swimming to start!

Reply

My favorite quote lately is “no grit, no pearl”….with running and life you’ve gotta get throu the discomfort and the struggle to get to the really beautiful parts and I think that embodies that idea so simply and perfectly!

Reply

You start my job search and I’ll be in N Cali next year! Haha I’m willing to move almost anywhere if I can find a job I love!

Reply

LOVE PICKLES!! Any and every variety. I actually have a restaurant rating system on my blog based on pickles (as opposed to stars). Also, my boyfriend knows not to eat the last pickle in the jar or he will be in serious trouble. haha ;)

Reply

NOT your first baby shower, Jacobs.

Reply

I love pickles, but rarely buy or get them because i’m not supposed to have a lot of salt. My life is so hard.

I want to see your presents!!

Reply

I am living in the UK right now, and haven’t really seen any of the Olympics!! Isn’t that crazy!!?? It’s because we don’t have a British tv, so British tv stations don’t work. We could stream it online here, after the fact, I think, not live, but I just had a new baby and am not sitting with the computer playing things right now because there has been lots going on – could have caught up by watching last night but had to hop into bed when new baby was sleeping so I could get some sleep before the next feeding – then today we disconnected our tv (still have our router and internet so I could watch some on my computer and might watch some in a bit) that we usually watch online stuff on through a computer hooked to it – because our movers come tomorrow to pack us out to move back to the US!! The Olympics have just come at a bad time :) I played in a Pipe and Drum band the whole year I was here until too pregnant to play the bagpipes – and my band – the Reading Scottish – will be the only band piping in the closing ceremonies!! I won’t be with them because there were tons of rehearsals in the last few weeks and baby number 6 was born 12 days ago. I don’t think I’ll even be able to play the pipes til about another two weeks anyway and wouldn’t be in piping shape to play with them :( So sad. But at least I’ll get to see my friends there doing it!! :)

Reply

OMG! That is the best running quote EVER. I might be stealing it for an upcoming post!
