The best things to have at a wedding.

Crepe bars at weddings are ALWAYS a good idea.  Toppings included:  puddings, whip cream, fruit, caramel and hot fudge.  See that beautiful jar filled with liquid?  You guessed it, pink lemonade.  The items on the below table are all that I need to survive.  I told that to the catering service so I could get a few to-go boxes but they wouldn’t go for that idea.

Round 1 for me:

You know you are an excellent crepe maker when you put in too many toppings that you can’t roll it up.

Round 2 for me.  Only difference was that I added more pudding, that stuff was good.

My BIL’s (the one that was living in Provo this winter) best friend got married yesterday.  Billy and I were stoked to go the this friend’s reception and also spend quality time with our favorite comedian.  Fun fact about this BIL… He just got elected as BYU Idaho’s student body president!

First try for a brother picture:

Billy learned his lesson for round two of brother pictures:

DSC 2536

My favorite people just so happened to be close to where the reception was so that was our next stop.

Curly has this thing against smiling in pictures now, she has mastered the evil eye at a very young age.

I haven’t had a strong craving for anything (besides lemonade) in a while but yesterday one hit hard for some Mac and Cheese.  Mac and cheese tastes even better when eaten at the counter surrounded by beautiful artwork.  Billy is always in charge of making this meal because he does his own measurements for the butter and milk and it always turns out way better.  I will ask him if he will someday share his secret recipe with you.

I kind of love eating dessert before dinner because then you just have to worry about getting too full to finish your dinner rather than your dessert.

Did you do student government/leadership when you were in school?

Thank you, Billy and Janae! My butterflies will not go away! I’m guessing this is normal the day before, though, right :)?

Reply

CONGRATS!! A soft serve machine?! That is seriously amazing. ENJOY it for me, kkkk?! :)

Reply

Thank you! Yes, it was my parents idea! I’m much more of an ice cream person than I am a cake person, so I’m looking forward to it!

You two look so nice and Curly is so precious! We got married at The Sagamore in Bolton Landing/Lake George, NY and our reception was on a boat that went all over Lake George. It went by too fast! Happy Friday! :)

Reply

Your reception was on a boat…that is the coolest thing ever. I agree, weddings go by way too fast!

Reply

Middle of the week wedding? LOVE the crepe-bar idea! We did a really traditional country club wedding, chicken/beef/fish. :)

Reply

I think it is because there are so many weddings here in Utah that they have to do them in the middle of the week too. I bet your wedding was beyond beautiful!

Reply

Oh, I can’t wait to get married! (Not happening anytime soon, but a girl can dream!) My dessert bar will DEFINITELY be bigger than my food spread, that’s for sure.

PS. You are glowing! I hope to be half as beautiful as you when I’m pregnant. Can you do a post on how you do your hair? It’s AMAZING.

Reply

Dessert bars should always be bigger than the normal food spread:) Thank you so much for your sweet words! You are the best. I totally will do a post on hair but until then this is the tool that I use to curl it:

Have an awesome Friday!

Crepes at a reception sound amazing! Those look so good. We had a huge buffet at our wedding, but since I’m a vegetarian, I let Mike pick all of the food except for a couple veg options. I didn’t end up eating anything at the reception, though, because I was so high on life. So I have no idea what we served.

We got married right on the water in Old Saybrook, CT.

Crepe Bar – sounds amazing!!

I plan on getting married in/near the Colorado Mountains, I cannot wait, dream about it all the time!

Also, i’m totally craving chocolate milk today!

aw Janae you’re glowing sweetie! so gorgeous!! :)

congrats to your BIL! that’s really awesome!!

I was student body Vice-President in the 8th grade & secretary in the 9th. We got married at Huntington Beach, Hyatt Regency. Because I’m 1/2 Korean & Rocky is a latino we had “mexiorean”- mexican & korean foods! Kimchi, enchiladas, etc. Everyone loved it. :) We also had a fondue fountain which I know you would’ve loved!! :) I’m craving crepes now!!

your nieces are the cutest!! have a wonderful Friday! hope you go get some Mickey D lemonade today!! :) xo

I am craving which witch and am going there for the first time today! Suggestions?

Reply

AHHHH I am so happy you are going to which witch. I wish I could come join you. I have only tried the club and the turkey/coleslaw ones and both were heavenly. I think the most important part is the toppings too… I get all three types of onions, all the veggies (except olives) and the TZATZIKI spread is to die for. Enjoy!

Reply

Can’t believe you mentioned crepes- been craving a savoury crepe with goat cheese all day today…bring on dinner!

Reply

Yep-student council. Craving – sleep and coffee. :)

I was the president of the Student council in high school. In college I did 1 year in Student Senate

The crepe bar is such an awesome idea!! I’m going to a wedding tonight and now I am secretly hoping they have a crepe bar… and pink lemonade :)

My dream wedding involves a candy/ jelly bean bar, lots of dancing and wine and… now a crepe bar :-D

Reply

We had chicken and salmon, rice pilaf, garlic mashed potatoes, veggies, and a few salads… For dessert we had 3 types of cupcakes, root beer, cookies and cream and pina colada. Oh and I cannot forget the slush machine we had – it was a highlight for sure!
I am craving a Screamer, and we are going for them tonight :) Friday night treat!

A crepe bar is an awesome idea! At my cousin’s wedding she brought out snack platters with fruit, veggies, meats, cheeses, breads, and crackers at about 11 pm. I thought that was such a good idea because of course your hungry again after all that dancing!

Have a great weekend!

Not craving any thing YET….

I just looked back at your wedding photos….ADORABLE!!! Your hair is so much darker…or at least it appears to be…you two are BEAUTIFUL!! I am sure your little munchkin is going to be a beauty too. ;-)

Reply

We got married in Baton Rouge and had lots of Louisiana food-jambalaya, muffaleta sandwiches, boudin balls, and doberge cake! We really wanted a snoball machine, but the reception hall said no. Boo. But we had a jazz band second line us from the church to the reception, so that was fun. Right now I am craving frozen coffee…and maybe a snoball!

Reply

Ooohh I love the crepe bar idea!! They are so good!!!
I would love to have my wedding (whenever that may be) in Oregon at a vineyard or the Benson Hotel :)
Happy Friday!

Reply

A crepe bar!!? Seriously!? That is what I call a fantastic wedding. I’ve never even seen or heard of those before!

Reply

they had a crazy ice cream sundae bar going on at the last wedding I went to and it was pretty awesome!

I honestly dont know where my dream wedding would be..i’m not too concerned about the location as long as all my friends and family are there with us :) Wings will absolutely be served at my wedding, thank you.

Reply

oh my goodness, Curly is just the sweetest little thing. I think you should pack her up with you when you move to Cali.
At our reception we had oodles of hor dourves (sp?) bc we were on a slight budget, but there was def. enough to go around and it was really yummy, too!

Reply

I was just telling my boyfriend that I want to have a lemonade bar at our wedding. I’ve been completely obsessed recently with fresh squeezed flavored lemonade (mostly strawberry or pomegranate). And no, we’re not engaged, I just like to talk about our future wedding, ha.

My dream wedding would be in Captiva Island, FL. It’s where my whole family used to vacation every year and it holds so many great memories for me. :)

Reply

I just went thru your wedding posts! You’re wedding looked like SO much fun! That’s totally what I think it should be, a huge party to celebrate love! :)

Reply

Mmmmm… that crepe bar looks delicious! (I need to change my blog name for the moment- I’m rebelling & think I would make an exception for these!)

I was Student Body Secretary. Didn’t realize at the time you could actually learn something from that that would help you in life. You know, event planning skills are pretty useful :).

I made my mom make her amazing Sweet & Sour Pork, served with a bit of rice. I think there was something else too, but only remember the pork. No, this wasn’t the wedding luncheon. It was for the reception! Yeah, I’m weird like that.

Reply

I saw a recipe for a peanut butter smoothie this morning … so now I’m craving PB hard!

I was Student Body President. Loved every minute of it!

Reply

I love the crepe idea!! I think its great when wedding have some sort of buffets or options for everyone. Plus you can eat UNLIMITED amounts of food at buffets, no one wants to be stuck with ONLY the food that they serve on a little plate!

Reply

No student government or leadership for me when I was in high school.

Is it weird that I don’t remember all that we ateat our reception? I know we had prime rib, salad, roasted potatoes and a delicious cake.

We got married in Las Vegas. Our reception was at the Excalibur Hotel where all our guests were staying. We had 15 family members that were able to come down to the party! This was my dream wedding for sure. No stress, lots of fun.

I don’t know if it’s to the craving stage yet, but I do believe a big bowl of jalapeno cheddar popcorn is in my future today.

Reply

I totally get the mac ‘n cheese thing. My Fiance has to make the grilled cheese. I don’t know what he does, but it always turns out super crispy with perfectly melted cheese.
Our wedding is May 4th, 2013 and we’re including a good amount of Mexican food, a favorite of ours + it’s the day before Cinco de Mayo, not that I need an excuse for Mexican food. Fiance doesn’t know it yet but his grooms “cake” is going to be Atlanta’s King of Pops serving gourmet popsicles. I’ve told him it’s not an option, but they’re AMAZING! And it’s unique.

Reply

I was in SGA all through high school and loved it!

Unfortunately I haven’t been to a wedding since I was 5 and all I cared about then was being really jealous of the flower girls… but hopefully I get to go to my cousins’ weddings because both of them are getting married this year!

Crepes!!!! Yummy!!!!!

I didn’t do student government but I did do cheer for a couple years. It was super fun!

My dream wedding would be in Italy I think. Somewhere lovely like Florence or a cute little Tuscan town.

I’m craving a chocolate chip cookie. I was going to make some last night but decided against it. Obviously a bad decision!!!

Reply

That crepe bar is such a good idea!!! Never would of thought of doing that for a wedding! I wasn’t on any of those, BUT I was on the swimming, track, and crosscountry team ;) I would want a HUGE chocolate fountain and cupcakes instead of a cake….maybe have some froyo…. :D

COME CHECK ME OUT AT MY BLOG :D http://runningsprinkles.blogspot.com

Sweet pictures Janae! I just caught up on your wedding posts, it looked lovely. :-)

Our wedding was in the mountains in New South Wales, Australia with a lunch reception and brownie cake for dessert.

All I am craving this week is watermelon and frozen treats… it’s becoming a problem!

Reply

I think your older niece looks JUST like you in that picture! Adorable!

Reply

I just got married in Italy a month ago so we enjoyed quite the variety of delicious Italian food:) My favorite part was after the cake–white cake with strawberries and whipped cream between the layers–they served us platters of assorted mini desserts. I love mini desserts because then you can sample all of them and it really only = one regular-sized dessert:)

Reply

IN ITALY!! Wow, Kristen I bet your wedding was beautiful! Italian food…oh girl, I should have come:) That cake is making me drool ha and you are so right about mini desserts!

Reply

I want some of those crepes!!!

A crepe bar at a wedding??? That is an amazing idea!!

Reply

Love the crepe bar!! I had finger foods b/c I got married at 2pm. I was study body president in high school…. lol! We had lots of fun!

Reply

You are HILARIOUS! And beautiful!

A crepe bar sounds AWESOME!!! I wish I had thought of that! We served fried chicken at our wedding. I hate going to weddings and having to suffer through crab-stuffed chicken or something equally fancy-sounding but gross. So, we opted for fried chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, sticky buns, and maple-glazed carrots. It was a hit!

We got married at Middlebury Inn in Middlebury, Vermont. It was perfect, but cold. We got married in March which is the opposite of wedding season in Vermont (summers=green, fall=foliage, winter=snow, spring=mud). That’s why my wedding was themed Maple and Mud (March is maple syrup season) and where I got my blog name from actually.

I am craving homemade ravioli (not homemade by me, but homemade at a restaurant) with rose sauce. And gummy bears. The sour kind with sugar coating. I am pretty much craving everything but the pb&j, greek yogurt, and grapefruit I brought for lunch.

Are weeknight weddings common where you live?

Reply

Yeah they happen a lot I think! We got married on a Tuesday because everything was booked on the weekends and it is a lot cheaper during the week for things like the reception center:)

Reply

Wow that crepe bar looks awesome!!!

I got married here:

it was amazing and i loved it!

Reply

Are you serious? That is the prettiest place I have ever seen!

Reply

I loved reading the wedding post, you two are so cute! I think you should permanently hire that caterer in your new place in cali so that you can eat crepes and pink lemonade on a daily basis.

Reply

A crepe bar is genius! We had our favorite local farmer’s market/gourmet deli cater our wedding. They served 6 different hors d’oeuvres (tasting-sized portions of some of our favorite items from their menu), as well as blueberry, strawberry, and regular lemonade and tea. They also served some amazing small bites as we did our receiving line, and the ceremony site was turned over for the reception. We also did a huge candy bar (where guests could pick their favorite items) in our wedding colors as our favor, which was a big hit! We got married in the church I grew up in, which was so special!

Reply

I had never heard of a crepe bar before reading this post, but now I think I’ll be dreaming of them… :)

Reply

I love the crepe bar idea! We served our main meal as a pasta bar at my wedding, and brought out sheet pizzas when we closed the bar down. Both were a definite hit!

Reply

We had all sorts of tiny desserts, including lemon bars, mini cheescakes and chocolate cupcakes at our reception that my parents threw for us when we got back from our super tiny (my parents, grandparents, his mom, brother, sister and us) wedding in Santiago, Chile. It was definitely a wedding I had never even dreamed of but was amazingly perfect and wondefully dreamy.
I posted it on my blog with pictures here: http://proverbsnineteen21.wordpress.com/2012/01/29/a-tale-of-two-march-26th-2011-wedding-day/ :)

I LOVED looking through the slideshow of pictures on your blog, you look BEYOND gorgeous! WOW!! PS I need one of those lemon bars asap!

OMG crepes – yum. need one now.

A crepe bar is fun! I too usually top mine with wayyyy too much stuff. Hah.

At our wedding reception we had a chocolate fountain, cake (4 diff flavors), meats and sandwiches, fruit, veggies and dip, desserts, and more. For the luncheon we had delicious Asian food and ice cream cake.

Enjoy your lemonade today!! :)

Reply

ooohh yummy, those crepes look amazing!!

i just love weddings, too. :) you look gorgeous!

at our wedding, we had yummy crab cakes and mushroom tarts for appetizers (i haaaaaate mushrooms, but loooooved these tarts! weird, i know!) SO delish! and the usual main course, with chicken and a yummy salad, etc. honestly, i had only a few bites. you know how it goes! i was wayyyy too excited to eat!

I never did student government in high school or college, but I was the adviser for the student government at BYU for 3 years and it was the BEST JOB EVER! Now I teach at BYU-I so maybe I will have your BIL in one of my classes. :)

Reply

Oh my goodness! That is the coolest thing ever! What do you teach? His name is Jon Jacobs.

Reply

My sister’s wedding is tomorrow (Emily) and she’s having an ice cream bar. I will definitely be thinking of you when I eat it ;)

Reply

I was vice pres of our student body in high school.

We had great food at our wedding (so we were told – I only remember tasting a few bites). It was all southern fare: mini bbq pork sandwiches on rolls, shrimp, sweet potato bar (my favorite part) with candied pecans, marshmallows, brown sugar, and cinnamon. I know there was a lot more food, but I honestly can’t remember what all we had! :)

Reply

I am absolutely having a candy and cake bar at my wedding! Who needs alcohol when you have sugar?

Reply

our wedding was last fall and since i am a huge cake fan, we needed something extra delicious. i know a lot of people do not give a whoot about the cake, but these are not my people! when we did the tasting, we were supposed to pick 3 flvors, but we could not, so we got four! they were:
1. Almond pound cake layered with pistachio and hazelnut buttercreams
2. Fudge cake with salted caramel buttercream
3. Pumpkin cake, white chocolate buttercream, homemade candied cranberries
4. Vanilla butter cake, coffee buttercream, Kahlua syrup

It is taking an immense amount of self-control not to eat the anniversary pieces in the freezer!!

We are going to a wedding later in the yr that is going to have a smores bar, cannot wait for that!
