A run-off and razzleberry

Just brushing up on my old waitressing tray carrying days.  Not going to lie, I dropped a lot of plates and trays when I was waitressing.  Walking and doing something else at the same time is tough.

For lunch yesterday Billy and I ate leftover burgers with some grapes and a banana (the iceberg lettuce on my burger was my veggie) while watching the diving Olympic Trials.  Watching the Olympic Trials is even better to me than both the Bachelorette and Make It or Break It combined.  If you know me that is a huge statement.

For the next 5 weeks I get to have one of my best friends in town.  The gorgeous girl below was one of my greatest friends and I set her up with my brother and now they are married and have the two cutest kids around.  (I apologize to those that have heard me tell this story 8 billion times, I am just really proud of my 100% set-up accuracy).

DSC 2089

Last night we had the classic Utah dinner.  Roast, peas, mashed potatoes and biscuits (even though the potatoes and biscuit look identical, they really are different foods).  The jello is probably just as high in sugar as normal dessert but we still count it as part of dinner because there is banana slices in it which makes it healthy.

I use my knife to cut up my mashed potatoes too.

One day I just want to stick a straw into a pie and sip out all of the filling because I think that is the best part (hello, there is way more sugar in the filling than in the crust).

We had Razzleberry (I have no idea what that means) pie with vanilla ice cream which I know for a fact makes great night before running fuel.

So many crazy awesome things going on in the Olympic Track and Field trials!! Ashton Eaton set the WORLD RECORD for the decathlon.

The girls in the first and second lane tied for the 3rd spot to go to compete in the London Olympics.  Even after analyzing their high speed camera which shoots at 3,000 frames per second the officials determined that it was a complete tie.

I probably could have found a better picture online but I was pretty proud of the fact that I caught this moment with my camera.

There was no procedure in place for a complete tie and they are still meeting to determine what to do and who will go to the Olympics. They did come up with procedures for in the future if this does happen again.

They can choose between doing a run-off or a coin toss.  If they don’t both agree on one or the other than they will do a run-off.

Can you imagine being in their situation?!?!

Would you choose to do a run-off or a coin toss to determine who wins?

Did you catch any of the trials over the weekend?  What are you looking forward to watching?

-We watched a few hours of them everyday, we are hooked.  I can’t wait to watch Gymnastics on Thursday night.

Do you like the pie crust or the filling better?

Ever been set up on a blind date?  How did it go?

Utah dinner sounds eerily similar to North Carolina dinner. Except sub in fried squash for the peas.

Who DOESN’T use a knife to eat mashed potatoes? Obviously!
Pie crust or pie filling?? Crust all the way! I loooove pie crust!

Reply

Or you could make it a Georgia dinner, and swap out the roast for some slow-cooked pork ;)

I’d rather do a run-off if in a tied situation, with a trip to the Olympics on the line. I think leaving a decision like that up to chance by doing a coin toss would completely trivialize all the hard work these woman have put into the event!

A razzle-whaaat! Now that’s the first I’ve heard of that berry! It’s all about the crust and the ice cream topping :)! Have fun with your bestie!!

Reply

The filling over the crust??? What is wrong with you??!?!?! I always make my mutter make two pies.. and I chuck half (or more) of the filling out and eat the crust in one or two sittings..

I love to watch gymnastics. I look forward to that one the most and cannot wait for it! :)

A run off! How could you let a coin toss decide your olympic fate?
I watched diving and running this weekend. I am super pumped for swimming all week long!

I have been glued to the TV- I love the Olympics! Ashton Eaton has the most gorgeous smile and seems so sweet- I am so happy for him! I love Allyson Felix, but I think she will make it in the 200m sprint, so I kind of hope the other girl gets to go. The women’s 10k was so intense- I think I’ve watched it 4 or 5 times now! Amy Hasting’s face when she was pushing through to win was so unforgettable.

A run off, I could not leave it to a coin toss!
Pie filling for sure, I dislike pie crust.
Never been on a blind date! I probably actually only went on 2 real dates before I met my husband!

Pie filling :)
And nope ive never been on a blind date… but i have been on some akward ones. lol
and I have been watching some of the Olymic trails… they are so amazing. I would love to go watch in person sometime!

I think I would have to do a run-off. If I lost to luck, I think that’d hurt more. I was actually watching those Olympic Trials on Saturday night, too. I was literally yelling at the TV when Eaton set the world record! SO exciting.

I made pie for the first time ever this weekend. My boyfriend’s mother requested Blueberry. Everybody said it was one of the best pies they have ever had. Now my mother is requesting one!

I don’t think I could ever go on a blind date. I’ve only gone on a couple dates in my entire life, knowing the people before hand, and that was awkward. My boyfriend and I worked together and were good friends before we started dating. I love it because we really got to know each other beforehand.

PS – I made those cupcakes that you said sounded great. I decided to hold off on the lemon, so they were just white chocolate and raspberry. They turned out AMAZING. Recipe is here: http://runningjunkie123.blogspot.com/2012/06/white-chocolate-and-raspberry-cupcakes.html

Totally would want a run off! I can’t wait I watch the 5,000m! Molly Huddle is from my hometown so I’m obviously rooting for her!

110% agree about the trials being better than the Bachelorette & Make it or Break it, even though I don’t watch Make it…although I guess I should. You got me hooked on White Collar ;)
I LOVE biscuits right now, it’s pretty much all that I can think about non stop. There are two staring at me right now on my desk, I may have to eat them shortly!! :D

Reply

I got to see a little bit of the diving trials which was kind of awesome, but none of the running, unfortunately.

How does one make biscuits that look exactly like mashed potatoes?

I’ve never been on a blind date, but know many who have.

Nice job on the set up, that is way cool. My sister married a boy I went to high school with I didn’t set them up but they did meet when she was out with me and my friends one night. It is still way strange that she is with him ; )

I watched the diving trials yesterday and it amazes me how people can bend their bodies like that in the air!

Reply

Oh my gosh a complete tie? That’s pretty crazy! I’m seriously soo excited for the olympics I spent my entire plane ride last week reading the latest issue of Runner’s World and am now officially obsessed with Ashton Eaton!

Reply

I missed the tie but I saw Ashton Eaton! And I’m SO excited for gymnastics on Thursday!! It’s definitely my favourite!

Reply

Wow that tie is crazy!

I love mashed potatoes, yummmm, haha.

I have been loving watching the trials as well and have the dvr set up for the whole week- cannot wait for gymnastics! If I could be any type of professional athlete (besides a runner) I think it would be a gymnast. I like pie filling better than the crust, but like cheesecake graham cracker crust better than the actual cheesecake!

Reply

I would 100% want to do the run off. At least then the outcome is within your control, as opposed to a coin toss, which is out of your control. The best runner should go to the Olympics.. How does a coin toss determine that in any way? I think it’s kind of silly.

The run off still raises issues though.. If you ran all-out in the first race, it would be awfully hard to perform at your best (or in a way that is really relevant to how you would perform in London) if you are tired and not rested. I hope they at least give a day or so to rest up and recover before the run off!

I cannot wait for the gymnastics trials! I was a gymnast for 8 years and I LOVE it so much!

Loooove me some Razzleberry pie! It is one of my faves!
I met my husband on a blind date after I had sworn blind dates off after about a hundred flops! It’s good I agreed to just one more! :)

Reply

Filling! I think I could eat bowls of pie filling. Who needs crust, really?

Reply

I watched a ton of diving yesterday…and I also can’t wait for gymnastics!

Reply

To make matters worse, the girls tied are TEAMMATES!
I would personally want to have a runoff because then it comes down to their own work, not the toss of a coin.
I’m truly OBSESSED with watching the trials. I am really excited to see who makes the team in the women’s 1500m. That field is deep this year. And I can’t wait to watch the 5k and steeplechase.
I’m really excited to watch it all!!!

Reply

I am also obsessed with watching the trials. I have already been near tears when Ritz made the 10k team (um how awesome was it that Galen Rupp helped pace him?!?!?!) and when Ashton Eaton broke the world record (and how classy were the other guys in the decathlon to let him finish first in the 1500?!?!). I was amazed by Ashton’s humility in the post-event interview.
I plan on staying up past my bedtime tonight to watch the steeple and 5k semis, and then again on Thursday to watch the finals. The steeple is just such a crazy event!

Hey lovely girl! I would rather eat the crust. Unless the pie was filled with ice cream or snickers pieces… That is a deadly combo for me. I haven’t been watching the trials because lets be honest my t.v. hardly ever comes on with chasing around Pax. I’d love to watch though. I would rather do a race off, I like fate being in my hands, not a coin.

I NEED to plan a date to PROVO ASAP so we can hang out!!! Miss you!

Reply

I’d rather do a coin toss-although they should just let both of them go!

I didn’t watch any of the trials-I didn’t know they were going on until just now! So now I will be sure to watch some. I LOVE gymnastics so marking my calendar for Thursday! Real life Make It or Break it? Yes please!

I love the bottom crust. It’s so delish! And if it’s a key lime pie or a lemon merangue, I like the filling too.

I have been set up on my fair share of blind dates. The last one was a complete disaster. Ugh. At least they make funny stories later right?

Reply

We watched a few of the Olympic trials and I totally thought of you during the running ones! It was super exciting to watch! I can’t wait for the gymnastics too! Definitely my favorite event, hands down.

Speaking of Make it Or Break It…have you ever seen the show Pretty Little Liars? I watched the entire first season last week and LOVED it! It’s got the drama that make it or break it has but it’s a different scenario–more of a thriller/mystery. I think you’d like it! It’s on Netflix!

I love pie filling but never eat the crust! My favorite kind of pie is probably pumpkin!

Have a great day, Janae!

Reply

I would totally pick the run off. Talk about pressure!! The coin toss does nothing to measure your athletic ability! I love the trials!

Reply

I’m all about the crust…I LOVE crust so much. And I was set up with my boss’s brother – we had this amazing date, seriously good, and then nothing came of it. I can’t understand why, even years later when i’m very happily married to someone else. Never mind, eh??

Reply

If there is a run-off, it better freaking be televised.

Reply

Eaton is a beast! I’m so pumped for the Olympics!

I would definitely go with a run-off. I don’t know how you could chance a coin toss–leave it all out on the track and let your true athletic ability speak for itself!

I’m a pie crust girl, but with the right filling I don’t discriminate! I definitely prefer cream pies (french silk is my all time favorite) over fruit pies, though.

Soooooooo excited for the 1500M trials on Thursday!! Morgan Uceny is my #1 to make the team – she was 2 years behind me in HS in our little cornfield town in Indiana and I couldn’t be prouder to have her represent our town as well as our country in the olympics! I’m going home to visit for 4th of July and I know everyone is going to be going crazy with excitement still if she makes it :)

Reply

I’m not a runner, and I don’t think I ever will be… but I’d definitely go for the run-off . I’d never want to wonder if I really deserved to be there.

blind date: yes. sort of a sweet kid, but so, so awkward. not at all a good idea and we didn’t mesh at all! haha. but at least I know. :p

but the women’s 5000m and 1500m are on thursday night!!

i can’t wait for the gymnastics either! it’s my absolute favorite!! that pie looks delicious too! where’s my straw? ;)

It always makes me giggle a little that all Utah dinners include jello. :) Love it.

We didn’t watch anything on tv this weekend because our niece was getting married!

I love pie crust, but you have to have the filling too, so I need both. :)

Reply

I would definitely choose a run off. I couldn’t imagine leaving something like the olympics up to a coin toss.

Sorry Janae, but I actually prefer the crust over the filling. I think it might be a texture thing; I love a bit of crunch over something sloppy.

Reply

Oh I am loving watching the trials. So many exciting races. Eeeek getting so excited for the olympics. :)

Have the best day ever Janae!

Reply

I think I’d do the coin toss if it were me, but that’s because I’m not a very good sprinter, so I’m picturing having to race again and that scares me. I imagine they’re pretty good at it though ;)

No trials, sadly. Some Eurocup though!

I’m with you on the filling – all the way. My sister and I sometimes share a piece of pie, where she eats the crust and I eat the filling. Delicious.

No blind dates, either. The only guys I ever went on dates on were “friends”. Turned out pretty well! Been dating one of those “friends” for 7 years now! :)

This is random (but showing you what a running nerd I am too) but I’ve run two 10Ks that Geoffrey Mutai was running as well. Ya know, the world’s fastest marathoner and the 2011 Boston Marathon winner? I feel kind of honored to live in Boston and be able to run this race put on by the BAA. Oh, and Mutai won the 10K two years in a row. I think I was a close 2nd though! ;)

Reply

I love the sweet goodness of filling, but the crust will always hold a very special place in my heart…and in my stomach! Let’s sit down together with a pie and enjoy our parts together, okay? :)

Reply

If I had to pick between the crust and filling, I would go with the filling :)

My sister-in-law set me and my husband up!! She is my husband’s brother’s wife. And she wanted to find a “nice girl” for her brother-in-law, and another lady at church suggested me! The rest, is history! :)

Reply

I’m so addicted to the trials. Ashton Eaton is my current crush. Nevermind that I’m married, and he’s engaged to a beautiful heptathlete.

I would do a run-off. I wouldn’t like the idea of the flip of a coin being what stands between me and London. At least with the run-off, you know you tried your very hardest. I have a feeling Allyson Felix is going to forfeit her 100 m qualifying attempt if she gets in for the 200 m though. It’s her bread and butter.

Reply

Thank you for the trials update, I have not been able to watch. That tie is nuts… depending on how much rest time they gave us, I guess I would go for the run off. If it were back to back, I might go coin toss, afraid i was already too tired.

I was set up on a blind date when I was in college and it was horrible! I was like “does my friend know me at all?” We just had nothing in common. at all.

My sis is currently dating a guy that was a blind date situation and that is going swimmingly!

Reply

I would want to do the run-off. I wouldn’t want to leave my Olympic fate to a 50-50 toin coss. Good thing I’ll never have to be in that situation!

I watched the diving yesterday too. Can’t wait for swimming and gymnastics.

Reply

I love that the lettuce on your burger was your veggie. ‘Cause really, it is. And I now feel totally justified when I do exactly the same thing. Thank you.

And I prefer the pie filling. And the crusty edges. If someone could figure out a way to just make the crusty edges without the rest of the pie shell, I would be in heaven.

Reply

I watched every minute of the diving trials this weekend and can’t wait for the swimming and gymnastics. I so wish I could take off work the 2 weeks of the Olympics so I could watch all day every day. :)

I’d much rather do a run-off than a coin toss. I wouldn’t want all of my hard work to come down to the flip of a coin.

Reply

I met my husband on a blind date twenty odd years ago! Funny thing was he didn’t know it was a blind date! Ha Ha! It certainly worked out well for us!
I would rather eat the filling than the crust.
I have watched some of the eurocup too. Hopefully Spain will win their next match!
Personally I can’t wait for the Olympics. I love just about everything about them!

I’ve went on a blind date before, I had a lot of fun but I dont think my friend considered that me and this guy wanted opposite things in life haha.

I’m going with pie crust…I love pie crust with icecream. Mmmm.
