I almost got arrested…

For stealing oatmeal from Starbucks.  I had never tried their oatmeal, I was hungry and really excited about the fact that I finally like oatmeal again and so my brain was somewhere else.  The cashier gave me the bag full of my goodies and with my credit card in the other hand I just started walking away fast to get started eating.  The security guard came and got me to tell me that you kind of have to pay for your food at their store and I felt really stupid.

They have mastered the oatmeal.  I have gotten McDonalds oatmeal at the airport before and Startbucks is officially 48,000 times better.

Walking with luggage  and taking a picture at the same time is actually quite difficult.

After my first flight I was hungry again and so I got a parfait  (there was one full strawberry in there…I sure got lucky) and a sample from TCBY.  I bet you didn’t know that they gave out samples at the airport.  You are welcome for filling you in.

I made both flights which is tricky to do on a Sunday and the Billy picked me up.  We came home, ate lunch (I had a turkey salad), watched baseball and I fell asleep for 2 hours.

Now I am just trying to figure out how in the world to find my left ankle again.  Please tell me this is normal for only being 6.5 months pregnant…is it going to get worse?

Turns out your feet can get sunburned, put sunblock on them too so you don’t end up with a Toms tan line like me.

Gotta get cooking!  Billy and I are having our own Sunday dinner tonight (my family is gone) and so we are making steak, potatoes and rolls to celebrate how happy he is that I am back in his life again.

PS Is it weird that I got really excited when Cinnabon started following me on Twitter?

This is a huge life accomplishment.

Swelling when you’re preggo stinks! I recommend wearing compression socks when you can and demanding…ok requesting, nightly foot/leg rubs from your hubby. The good news in 2.5 months you won’t have to worry about the swelling any more :).

Reply

You are brilliant!! Thank you so much…I thought about the foot rubs but never the compression socks. Thanks so much Genny, I really appreciate you!

I have to agree with you…Starbuck makes the most fabulous oatmeal! It is one of the few places you can actually get “plain” oatmeal if you want it. I am kind of liking the new McDonalds blueberry banana nut oatmeal, but there is something in the taste that tells you it is chemically McDonalds even though the blueberries are in their own little fresh-pak.

As for Sunday dinner…was part of the Cellcom marathon that got cancelled today due to heat, so thinking of taking my disappointment of not being able to finish out on a very cool new restaurant.

Reply

I haven’t tried the banana nut oatmeal yet…I might have to if I can’t find a starbucks next time:) You are right that is nice you have the option to have it plain if you want. I am so sorry that the marathon got cancelled! Do you have another one you could do soon so that all of your training can still go towards a race? YES..go to a cool restaurant!

Reply

LOL they should hand over the food after you pay!

Reply

You are so right…technically it was their fault right:)

Reply

Are you sure they were free samples at TCBY? ;-)

A co-worker is 20 weeks pg and her ankles are 100x’s worse than yours, so I say its normal (sorry)…but I agree w/giving compression socks a try and keep your feet elevated as much as possible. I was lucky and only my fingers got swollen.

Reply

HAHAHA You are right…I probably stole that too. Oh my goodness, thank you so much for telling me about your co-worker…I feel much better now. OH NO, the fingers swell too?!?!

Reply

Well maybe since your ankles are swelling your fingers won’t ;-)

On Sunday afternoons/evenings, Daniel and I always prep our food for the week, and we usually end up snacking on whatever we are cooking. Today, Daniel smoked some chicken thighs, so that was his dinner. I was juicing a ton of fruits and veggies, so I basically drank my supper and snacked on veggies and hummus while juicing.

Starbucks does have great oatmeal! I always get it at the airport before early morning flights.

Reply

YUM!!!! I should have come over for the smoked chicken thighs, that sounds amazing and what type of juicer do you use?

Reply

You are welcome anytime! I use a Jack Lalanne juicer.

Reply

Thanks, I have been wanting to get a juicer and want to get a good one!

Reply

I love any of their baked goods- cake pops in particular. I also have had the dark cherry yogurt parfait which I love!
Dinner was salmon with mango salsa and roasted sweet potatoes/asparagus. YUM

Reply

Dark cherry yogurt parfait…okay, I am going to have to get that tomorrow. That sounds incredible and so does your dinner! Did you make the mango salsa or buy it?

Reply

Bought it! I need to figure out how to replicate it though. Mango and pineapple salsa are my two favorite things (well mango and pineapple in general) so i need to make a salsa that includes them both :)

Reply

Haha I’ve almost done that before too, I was so embarrassed but my cashier just laughed at me.

Sunday night dinner my boyfriend and I went to Panera bread. We were walking around the neighborhood and both had a craving for it. It was a good choice.. turkey and avocado!

My favorite baseball team is the Yankees :)

Reply

Good to know I am not alone. Girl, I have never been to Panera…can you believe that? Wanna take me for a turkey and avocado sandwich?

Reply

I’m jumping in here … you’ve NEVER been to Panera?? What universe are you living in?? I can’t believe it! Do they not have them in Utah? I need to send you a Panera Panini, immediately! ;)

Reply

I KNOW…can you believe it? I haven’t seen any in Utah? Do you need my address now or later for the panini?!?!

Reply

Maybe you just need to come visit me in Atlanta, and I’ll take you. ;) And then I’ll take you to Flip Burger so you can get a Krispy Kreme Milkshake!!

Reply

DONE AND DONE!! See you soon. Okay, a Krispy Kreme milkshake….sign me up right now!

Reply

I can’t believe you’ve never gone to one!! Intervention!!! We need to get you there ASAP. Come out to NYC and I’ll treat you to a sandwich on some kick ass bread :)

Reply

WAHOO!! I am taking you up on that because I might actually be coming to NYC soon! You better not be kidding:)

Reply

Haha yay thats great! I’m not kidding at all, this is an intervention and a must-do! Then some Pinkberry just because its the best and I’m obsessed.

Reply

Panera and Pinkberry….best meal ever I am sure!

Reply

Imagine the headline on newspaper ” Pregnant woman arrested for stealing oatmeal at Starbucks” hahaha.

The only thing I like from Starbucks is their Green Tea Frappe but I might try their oatmeal next time.

Reply

HAHAHA that would be hilarious! Yes, try the oatmeal, it was surprisingly good and super thick (I hate watery oatmeal)!

Reply

girl…the swelling gets so much worse

Reply

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Reply

Hehehe that Starbucks story is so funny! I’m glad that the security guard was pretty nice about it. :) I’ve never tried their oatmeal but I walk by Starbucks on my way to class every morning so I might have to stop in and try it!

I have a sneaking suspicion that Billy won’t approve of the picture where your parfait is on top of your ipad, hehe.

I’m sorry about your swelling…I saw the comment about wearing compression socks…brilliant! Glad you had a safe, fun trip! :)

Reply

YES, try it out!! Oh no, you are so right…I didn’t even think about that ha he probably is already not happy about it…OOPS!

Reply

how awesome! I would love to be followed by them, esp if they sent me coupons! ;)

Reply

That is a brilliant idea, I need to tweet them to start sending the coupons.

Reply

oh my gosh, starbucks oatmeal is the BEST. now that i’m thinking about it, i may have to pick some up for breakfast tomorrow! I like mine with dried fruit and brown sugar.

Reply

You really should! I did the dried fruit and brown sugar combo too. I forget how good brown sugar is! Let me know how it is tomorrow:)

Reply

I used tO get their oatmeal all the time!! It’s soooo good!

Reply

I could definitely eat it daily:)

Reply

Sorry about your swollen feet/ankles and your sunburned feet. I had NEVER met someone who had burned their feet before…and then I met my husband and his whole family! Apparently it isn’t as uncommon as I think it is. It’s just that none of my friends ever applied sunscreen to their feet. Since marrying him I have seem many a red foot, it’s crazy. Someone said that they think compression socks are amazing for pregnant woman, that may or may not be true. I also hear a nice pair of super soft super cushy slippers are helpful too. Usually in the shape of some animal:-) Also, you have inspired me to try Starbucks oatmeal. Gracias!

Reply

HAHAHA Yes, I must get the awesome animal shaped slippers…you are brilliant!!! Maybe those will help with the sunburned feed too:) TRY the oatmeal and let me know what you think. Have an amazing day Christy!

Reply

Hahaha I’m glad they didn’t arrest you ;) I’ve definitely done stuff like that before. Once, I was just chatting away with the cashier while I was checking out at the grocery store, and then I literally walked out without paying. Neither of us realized it! They ran out to the parking lot to tell me I never paid!!! it was so embarrassing, haha

Reply

Oh my goodness hahaha good to know I am not alone. I think we just have way more important things on our mind and are far too busy to be thinking about paying for stuff. Have a great night Liz!

Reply

Thief! LOL! I love Starbucks oatmeal and the new blueberry walnut oatmeal from McDonalds is really good too! Sorry about the swelling :(

Reply

Aww! Sorry about the swollen feetsies! Elevate, ice, elevate! :)

I flew home from a trip last week, and my feet got super swollen too. They went down after a couple of days, but I heard it just gets worse as pregnancy goes on…not looking forward to that!

Reply

Ahhh, the swelling ankles and feet. SO very normal for lots of women. Some get it early on and it lasts til the end and some get it towards the end and it lasts til a few days or a week after birth. Thank goodness it’s just temporary!

Reply

My last pregnancy was swell city. The good thing is that if you swell a lot you lose tons of weight immediately after the baby is born. At least that’s what happened with my last one! They told me not to look at the scale for the first week, but I’m glad I didn’t listen because I lost tons of weight with all of that retained water evaporating. Of course then it slowed waaaay down — the losing weight.

Reply

Regarding the feet swelling, just make sure your blood pressure isn’t up!! That was my problem. :)

Reply

Did the cookie make it to Billy?!

Reply

Hahhaa It is a miracle! It actually did!

Reply

That swelling feet pic brings back memories of pregnancy days…it’s very normal. Hope it doesn’t get way worse. Mine was so awful. The best part though is right after you have your baby you’ll feel soooo skinny when u look at your feet and can see clear ankle definition!! :)

Reply

Cinnabon is so awesome! I was ridiculously excited when Saucony followed me after I tweeted about their shoes. That upped my grand total of followers to 6 :)

Reply

Glad security let you go home! LOL!

I haven’t tried Starbucks oatmeal. I do get their Spinach Feta wrap on occasion.

Reply

I haven’t tried Sbux oatmeal but I have tried McDonald’s oats. Oh my the oatmeal was so sickly sweet! Rumor has it Jamba Juice sells organic steel cut oatmeal, so if you’re ever in need just keep a look out for Jamba Juice!

Reply

Haha, they have security guards in starbucks? Intense. I’ve never tried their oatmeal, but am curious to now! Oh goodness, I’m terrified for ankle swelling if I ever have kids. It must feel so weird.

Reply

Hi Janae! :) It is perfectly normal for a pregnant woman to have a swollen ankle! just be careful with walking and dont get tired too much :)

Reply

It is very normal at 6 1/2 months after a flight! Mine do that after every shift at work if I don’t wear compression socks. They have been a life saver. Keep your feet up and the swelling will go down.

Reply

Haha I feel your excitement- I got super excited when Quaker tweeted me back :)!

Reply

Um… at least you didn’t pay for your food and forget to TAKE your food. Yeah… that was 30 minutes ago. I’m an idiot.

Reply

WHAT?!?!?! NOOOOO…where did this happen?

Reply

At a local department store… I had purchased some snacks. But not to worry… they chased me down half a block to deliver the goods :) Still an idiot.

Reply

I am so glad that you still got them. Sometimes our brains are just someplace else.

Reply

Tell me about it. I had SO MANY mishaps this morning that I thought about getting a brain scan. No joke.

Reply

i tried starbucks’ oatmeal when it first came out (i think maybe 4 years ago), and it was terrible! i’ve heard good things from everyone now, so i think they figured out what they were doing wrong. if there was a starbucks closer than 25 minutes from me, i definitely would have tried again by now. :p as it is, i save myself for a gigantic latte any time i find a starbucks.

Reply

Ha! I am not a Starbucks fan. Do not like their coffee at all, but the oatmeal has become an early morning airport staple for me. I like that unlike McDonald’s and other fast food restaurants that have oatmeal, Starbucks doesn’t add any sugar or other junk to it before you even get it. It’s just oats and water. It’s much healthier than the other stuff and an easy airport breakfast. Just slice some banana in it and put half the nut packet in and you’ve got a great healthy breakfast on the go! Glad they didn’t take you to jail! ;)

Reply

I love Starbuck’s oatmeal! It’s pretty much the only healthy breakfast you can get in the airport, so that’s where I go when I’m traveling for work.

We had pizza for dinner last night. It was AMAZING. There are even leftovers for lunch today :).

Reply

Hey I’ve heard upping your protein level keeps swelling at bay. I heard it on the pod cast Pregtastic (on itunes) they say 80-100 grams but that is a whole lot! I would just try to up it and see if it helps ;) Something I will for sure be trying later in my pregnancy as well.

Reply

Tessa, thank you so much for filling me in on that. That is definitely something I could work on and so I will totally be trying this. THANKS!

Reply

I used to get food at Starbucks when I was in college. The one on campus had stuffed soft pretzels, and they were so good!

Reply

haha. I can’t believe you accidently tried to steal oatmeal!

Last December my gym had a flasmob at the Galleria mall, and we had security called on us. We dispursed pretty quickly!

Reply

How ironic! My left swells up too while my right stays normal!!

Reply

OK, that is just awesome that Cinnabon is following YOU! Normally that would be the other way around, right? I really like the food at Starbucks and I don’t feel nearly as guilty getting little meals, snacks and treats there for my kids and I as if I’d gone to McD’s. Have you tried their cake pops? Just a little bit of guilt on a stick. I agree on the foot rubs from your husband–pregnancy needs a few perks like that!

Reply

The swelling was the worst part of pregnancy for me. I agree that compression socks will make a difference. I had to break down and get a pair of crocs two sizes bigger than my tennis shoes in order to have a pair of shoes for work. Yuck! I did enjoy being able to push my thumb into my swollen legs and feet and watch the imprints. And the day after I had my kids, the swelling was nearly nonexistant.

Reply

Welcome back!! I hope your swelling goes down soon!

Reply

Put your feet up, eat food high in potassium (bananas, dried fruit, nuts), drink tons of water, stay cool, avoid caffeine and junk food (good luck), stay mobile (which you’re an expert at) and it should help a little with the swelling! I was also due in August last time and the summer heat doesn’t help! Along with the compression socks you can ice your feet, it will help.

Reply

Oh I love oatmeal but haven’t tried McDonalds or Starbucks, now you have me intrigued!
