What are your eating habits and a new way to stalk my favorite runner.

I woke up remembering how I said I wasn’t going to run and instead do the elliptical today and tomorrow because of the race on Saturday.  I then remembered the elliptical is boring compared to running and I am less of a beast to my students if I run.  Plus why taper if I am not racing?  (I knew you wanted to know my exact brain conversation from this morning).

By the time I got to the treadmill it was 7 on the dot so I fit in 3 miles and still made it to school by 7:46….don’t think too hard about that time frame or you may think less of me.

Yesterday when I got home from the track I had the best package ever waiting for me, THANK YOU CHOBANI!  If you haven’t tried the blood orange flavor you simply must right this second.

The other day I was wasting my life away on Facebook and I came across something that made me beyond happy!  Kara Goucher’s husband, Adam, has started a blog following her journey to the 2012 London Olympics.  Since I like to be referred to as her biggest stalker, I love having a new place with pictures of her and things about her training.

Kara and Shalane Flanagan are currently training high altitude (8,000 feet high altitude) in Mammoth.  They are averaging about 120 ‘base’ miles per week. You can find the website HERE!

Just a few of my favorite pictures:

The Nike black and blue outfits are just about the cutest things in the world.

Maybe this one will motivate me to do core work someday….who would have thought that having a strong core could make you faster;)  She makes it look so easy.

And for the randomness of the day:

Are these stats true for you?  Do you tend to eat later in the day on Saturday and Sunday?  Do your eating habits go downhill on the weekends?

-We do eat a lot later in the day on Saturday and Sundays and if my eating habits could get any lower then yes, I am sure my eating habits are less healthy on the weekends.

How often do you do core work?

Do you follow any elite athletes blogs/training?

Would you rather have a croissant or a cupcake right this second?

I do some core workout because it really makes a difference to my running and overall posture. At the moment I follow Jake Krong’s blog, which I love .

Buttery croissant will beat cupcakes any time for me!

Reply

I am totally going to agree with you about the croissant. Jake’s blog is such an amazing source of information and SO motivating.

LOVE the Blood Orange Chobani, but Chobani is not sold here yet!!
I indulge more on Saturday’s with sweets for sure, and if we are going to eat out or any fast food it is usually on Fridays. But I would say we eat earlier since during the week by the time we are off work, hit the gym and make supper we eat around 7:30pm.
Core work – once a week right now.
CUPCAKE!! Not a croissant fan.

Reply

AHHH I am going to have to send you some…no Chobani, I would die. Great job getting in your core work and please send me any croissants that you get:)

Reply

Oh my word….I think of Gus Gus EVERY TIME I have to carry a ton of stuff. You posting that picture cracked me up!!!!!!!!

Reply

BAHAHAH we think a lot alike and I love it!

Reply

Ahhh! I love Gus Gus!!! We once named a cat after him!

I’m pretty sure I eat all day long on Saturdays and Sundays! My eating patterns are definitely worse on the weekends. A cupcake sounds so delicious right now!

Reply

I love that you named your cat after him….maybe I will name my baby after Gus Gus…ha, jk billy would never let me. YEP, I graze all day on Saturday and Sunday…what else would I do?

Reply

Your blog counts right?

My eating is worse on the weekends, but I just chalk it up to fuel for the long run and refuel after the long run.

Reply

HAHAHA only because of Billy’s speediness:) It really is one of the beauties of running..we actually NEED all of the extra calories and glucose to get through our training!

Reply

I just saw that blog yesterday, too. I love it!!

Reply

Aren’t they inspiring?!?!

Reply

Gosh…I need to do more core, too!!! I used to a lot…where did that girl go?!?! I should just have a set list that I look at every morning and follow. Impressive with the run and making it to work in that time frame…you never cease to amaze me!

Reply

I used to too…it is so hard to get back into the habit though. Amaze or gross you out ha:)

Reply

You’re my famous runner blog.

My eating habits are frightening on the weekend. Bad. So bad.

Core what?

Cup cake please. Now.

Reply

HAHAH because of Billy’s crazy fast workouts. Good to know I am not alone in not ever wanting to do any core! I will send you a cupcake and you send me a croissant.

Reply

I try and save getting sweets and froyo for the weekend and that’s when I tend to eat out with friends and family, so I’d definitely say I’m less healthy on the weekend.

Reply

We eat out a lot more on the weekends with family or friends….how else do people socialize than over a big meal?

Reply

Haha well I tried getting my brother to run with me, but he nixed that one pretty quickly. So what do I do other than run? Eat! Haha

Reply

Eating and running…the two most important things in life. Hope you are having an amazing day Katie!

Reply

Ahhh I follow Kara on Facebook and saw all those pics!!
I used to do core work in the form of Mat Pilates 2x/week and now I do it on my own per my PT instructions. But after I’m fully healed I can’t wait to get back to Pilates. I’m just not all that motivated or enthusiastic doing it on my own!

Reply

Way to go…2x a week, that is awesome! I want to get into Pilates!

Reply

I wouldn’t say every weekend is unhealthy, but if we’re going to go out to eat at all during the week, it’s typically on Saturdays. So I would definitely say on average, Saturday is my least-healthy day. ;)

Reply

Whoa that’s a lot of Chobani!!!

Love that Adam has so much passion for his wives journey, there is a lotta love there.

Reply

I would tend to say that I almost eat worse during the week because I’ll have a long day at work and then feel like I need to binge on crap to feel better (NOT healthy I know). Also, I’m careful not to eat fatty foods before my long runs (GI probs) so I tend to eat a bit better on the weekends when I do my long runs. But overall I eat a lot of crap so it’s tough to tell ;-)

Reply

I love the Chobani Champions yogurt! Especially the honey-nana and chocolate chunk…but that chocolate to yogurt ratio is a bit off. Less yogurt, more chocolate.

I don’t do much core work any more, I just figure the amount of lifting and cardio I do will cover it all. I know I should, but never really saw any noticeable improvements from the stuff I was doing, so I just moved on plus its soooo boring.

Reply

AHHHH! I love your Gus Gus pic, it’s my FAV!!! I literally burst out laughing when I saw those pics side by side. Hilare!

And yes, I am such a sucker for bad weekend eating. I still go for lots of veggies and lean proteins but it’s much easier to indulge in a beer (or four…) on Sat or Sun. Then Mon comes around and I get mad at myself when running is not as easy as it was on Fri… Silly!

Reply

Love love love the intro to Kara’s husband’s blog. so cool!

Reply

Absolutely in love with the Blood Orange flavor of Chobani, cannot get enough of it. I try to get in core work about twice a week but sometimes it doesn’t happen, I should try to work on that!!

Reply

It honestly depends! If I’m busy and didn’t plan things well then my eating is crazy. If it’s the weekend I might splurge but at least I still have my whole day to plan meals, etc.! I do agree that I feel more like splurging on the weekend.

Reply

Gus Gus! I love Gus Gus!! Your picture + Gus Gus had me cracking up!! :D
Isn’t Chobani the best?!
Your blog is the only Elite athlete’s that I follow…and I love it!!
I would like a croissant right now. How good does that sound?!

Reply

I stalked those same pictures on the run the edge blog yesterday too! I love when famous people, like Kara, post personal pictures. It makes me feel like we’re BFFs.

Question: What kind of camera do you use? Your photos always look great!

Reply

I definitely eat more on the weekends, not so much during the day but in the evening since my boyfriend and I love to go out for dinner. And then dessert. I love dessert.

I just started to do more core workouts, but I’m still lacking in that area. I think I just need to find a workout thats fun. Usually they bore me!

Right now: cupcake. Buttercream please!

Reply

I love the blood orange flavor and Gus Gus!!!!!

I think that chart is very true. I eat REALLY healthy M-T and somewhere around lunchtime on Friday things start to slip. I would say Saturday is my worst eating day, and usually Sundays I am back on the upswing.

I would take a cupcake over a croissant any day!

No elite blogs here…. I already fall into comparison traps with people who are better than me so I would probably beat myself up after reading their blogs.

Reply

I LOVE the Blood orange flavor too!! I JUST tried it–soooo good!

Love the blue.black Nike outfits as well. So awesome :)

Reply

Cupcake, of COURSE! :)

Reply

I’m loving the pictures. Kara is the cutest thing ever, but her son, he’s so adorable! I always look the same way when I have yogurt at the grocery store. That is how I carry it until I get to the cart. :) I love the infographic, I would have never thought Sunday was the unhealthiest!

Reply

I have always been a huge Gus-Gus fan. Of course, you have to say it very fast and with a squeal.

Reply

I am excited to try the Chobani Champions yogurt! I don’t have any kiddos but I know some who might like it.
I definitely don’t eat as healthy on Friday or Saturday and I also eat later those days. But Sunday is more like a normal day.
The only athlete’s blog I follow is yours :-)

Reply

A cupcake because I just ate a bagel! =)

Reply

Just seriously injured my hip adductor/pelvis (aren’t you glad I’m sharing that?) because of a weak core. Once I’m better, I’m starting Operation Get-A-Six-Pack.

I love Kara. Get it, girl.

Reply

Those stats are my life… and cupcakes. Always cupcakes.

Reply

As a college student, my good eating habits basically disappear on the weekends. I’d much rather have a cupcake right now since I’m about to start a hardcore all night study fest for kinesiology, although the croissants at my fave beach restaurant are SOOO good paired with their house salad!

Reply

The blood orange is fantastic – I agree!
Not being on a schedule and being home more, I proabably do eat a little unhealthier on the weekends.
Ooohh…I would have a croissant, especially if it had chocolate inside and it was warm. Now my mouth is watering :)

Reply

I just bookmarked that site so that I can stalk my idol too! Thank you SO much for telling us about it! I totally needed another time-suck in my life (hehe, kidding, but I also think of this as an educational endeavour)!

Weekends kill my diet but I also think it’s because I do long runs on weekends and they make my appetite soar. Cannot – get – enough – brie!

I do core work 5 times per week, mostly planks, bicycle crunches, and leg lifts. I used to hate it but after seeing results I have grown to love planks! Need to try those weighted situps because Kara has the most amazingly fantastic abs. There should be a shrine decicated to them.

Reply

Does anyone else think the Blood Orange Chobani tastes like Sour Patch Kids? Definitely my favorite flavor but then again there’s pineapple, too. Hmmmm…they are all good!

I love doing core work! I try to fit it in while I’m watching TV on most nights.

Please pass me a cupcake right now! :)

Reply

im so obsessed with gus gus

Reply

Cupcake!

Reply

love that you can run 3 miles, get ready, and commute in 46 mins! I aspire for that! my hubby and I do eat later on the weekends and I eat lots of junk food all the time so… yeah! and I would always choose a cupcake!.. unless its between icecream and a cupcake. then it would be ice cream all the way!

Reply

I’ve never liked doing core work and it’s that area of fitness that I continually struggle to work into my day-to-day…I even know how important it is, I just don’t like it!

Reply

I usually do eat worse on the weekends. I plan for the week, and I try to stick to my plan closely (this is not true for this week…cheer clinics have apparently made me weak), but on the weekends, there’s a lot more snacking and typically some eating out.

I’m not really a croissant person, but I do love a good cupcake every now and then! Right now, I’d rather have ice cream!!!

I do core work at least 4 times a week – I love it!

Reply

Ummm the fact that you just made a GusGus reference makes you my new favorite person ever. That is all.

Reply

I love Chobani!! And I definitly just cinderalla the other day when I was having a bad day! Disney + chocolate makes any day better. :)

Reply

Umm what? Kara Goucher has a blog?? I will be adding this to my google reader asap!

Reply

ooo awesome definitely checking out their blog!

and id have to pick cupcake..ive been making cupcakes like, a lot lately for some reason…pregnancy cravings? or prob just real life cravings haha.

Reply

I do core work about twice a week. Perhaps I should step it up with those weighted sit ups! Looks tough!
Weekends are definitely when I indulge more… so I would have to say the stats are true for me.
Have a wonderful Friday!

Reply

Awwww Gus Gus ;)

Reply

Croissant for me, please! (after decorating the cupcakes … I am a piping fan!)

Reply

I freaking LOVE Kara Goucher! I’d kill for those legs. I will definitely be keeping up on that blog :)

I always eat worse on the weekends but I don’t think it’s that bad. I usually allot one ‘cheat’ meal.

Reply

I just finished breakfast which is sweet so I’m ready for savory….bring on the ham & cheese croissant!

Reply

okay, comparing urself to Gus Gus is priceless!! haha…u are too cute! :)

yea, kara and shalane are beastettes in the best possible way….i tell everyone to please stalk away. :) i love to see them kicking butt!

Reply

Although I am British and LOVE Jessica Ennis (homegirl can RUN), a huge part of me will be cheering on Kara at the Olympics… is it wrong?

Reply

My eating habits take a definite turn for the worst on the weekends…such is life. I also tend to be more active on the weekends, so that’s food for thought.

Toasted croissant! with an egg

Reply

I love the pic of Kara and her son…he so reminds me of mine on the pic.
Corework…too little! I am the only persone who had sore core muscles after a marathon (it was worse than my legs)…lesson learned!
My eating habits are not great, weekends are just as bad as the rest.
I would go for a croissant with strawberry marmalade and a latte…unfortunately have only latte :-(
have a lovely weekend and have fun racing…you are racing for two…which means your time should be halved – rigt?

Reply

I throw something at my core a couple of times a weeks.

I will follow Kara now! Thanks

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

120 base miles?? Out of control!

I definitely eat worse on weekends. When I don’t have a schedule, I can’t be trusted!

Reply

blood orange chobani = heaven.
cupcake all the way! my weekend eating is definitely worse than weekday.
love Kara!

Reply

Blood orange chobani is fo sho the BEST flavor!

Love me some Kara and love to see her doing core work…so important! I have started doing a plank-a-day challenge for the month of April – planks everyday and I am up to holding it for 3 minutes straight! Who would have thought holding the plank position makes you break out into a sweat!

Reply

GAAAHHH, I adore gus gus! I had a pet fish named after him once. he died after one month.

Reply

I love Chobani! One of my favorite snacks!

Reply

yes–my weekend eating is inconsistent! Try 2.5x more cupcakes :)

I don’t follow any elite athlete’s blog…but thanks for the linkage! Checking it out!

Reply

Cupcake. Always cupcake.

Reply

Croissaaaaaaant. Preferably chocolate croisssssaaaaaant. Maybe w/hot chocolate, just in case there wasn’t enough chocolate in the croiiiisssssss….you get the picture.

Reply

Kwahsaunt!

I actually eat a lot better on the weekends. On the weekdays I end up snacking at work out of sheer boredom, but on the weekends I have time to buy fresh food and cook up something great. Plus I do the long run, cross train and have time for strength work. Sigh…I miss being unemployed sometimes..

Reply

I do try to get up around the same time on weekends so my eating isn’t thrown off, but it is hard when I have plans with friends!

Reply

I LOVE the comparison to Gus Gus. I’m a big fan of your blog, but this really made me giggle so much that I had to comment for the first time. Love some Gus Gus references. :)

Reply

I do a little core workout most everyday, just enough to keep from being flabby, not enough to be really strong.

I love following elite atheletes. It makes me keep at what I do. I am just an average person trying to stay fit which I probably wouldn’t do without their inspiration.

I don’t really like cupcakes, so I’ll choose the croissant, but what I’d really choose are chocolate chip cookies with a glass of milk! :D
