In the 18 months that I have been blogging this is my first self-portrait in the car.  I was going to continue my streak but I figured today would be a great day to break it.  I had my normal pre-run bfast of grapes with cottage cheese and a drinkable yogurt and went to meet with the sister to get our run on.

Photo 4

We got out of our cars and had the exact same look on our face.  The look of ‘why in the world are we going to do this?  I do not feel like running and would rather go eat french toast.’    Part of running is just coming to accept that you have great runs and you have awful ones but either way you just get out and do it.

You know how we usually put our gamins up to the sky so that they locate the satellites quicker….well today we tried to keep them down low so that it would take forever for the garmin to load and then we could walk longer and avoid actually starting.

Photo 2 copy

B$ and I are going out of town tomorrow for the rest of the week and so I forced my sis to do my long run with me.  Her actions prove that she deserves sister of the century award.  By the end we were so over it and just wanted to finish fast.

Photo 2

Mission accomplished but it was not fun, there were no skittles falling from the sky and I wasn’t singing my normal I love running song.  At least my favorite long run partner and I are always on the same track when it comes to having a good day or a bad day….it makes complaining a lot more fun when you are both doing it.  Once we finished we laid on the grass, guzzled water and thanked our lucky stars we were done.

The Sunglasses Shop sent me some Nike running sunglasses that I tested out today on my run.  They were awesome and I am not just saying that because they sent them to me.  I love the fit, they didn’t bounce at all and they protected my eyes from the trillion bugs flying around on the trail.  Now I just need to learn to close my mouth when a bug is flying at me 90 mph, it wasn’t pretty.

Added bonus:  these babies are quite sleek looking.

If you are looking for some new shades to workout with, I totally recommend taking a look at their selection HERE.

How better to fix a bad run day……eat a salad mountain with Megan and Ash.  I had a side of ranch (cut out of the picture) and honey mustard poppyseed.  Although it was quite the stressful event because there was a guy right behind me in line trying to hurry me through the salad bar.  I take my time to figure out the exact measurements to fit the most amount of heaven on my plate and don’t like to be rushed.

Before my last run (which was last Sunday), I had cereal, a banana, and orange juice – my standard prerun breakfast! I am having a terrible week of running… lingering hip and knee pains plus neck pains have been arise over the past few weeks, so I’m actually going back in to start physical therapy tomorrow. I have the Chicago Marathon this October to train for and right now I have no confidence that I can get through an entire training season injury free. Here’s hoping that relief comes quickly!

Favorite flavor of yogurt (not fro-yo) would have to be strawberry banana (although, I am always partial to flavors like white-chocolate raspberry, lemon cream pie, and Boston cream pie). Can you tell that I eat Yoplait yogurt?

I’ve been blogging for about 3.5 months, but have been reading blogs for about the last 9 months. So much wisdom out there to learn from, wish I’d started earlier!

Reply

Darn it!! I only got 3/5 right. Well I guess that’s not so bad!
I have been blogging for four months!! I love it. I am eating salad right now and could eat it every day for the rest of my life.

Reply

Orange yogurt! But sadly is was discontinues here about 20 years ago. haha. But in the US you lucky guys have Chobani and their new Blood Orange…
Reading – about 2 years, blogging myself since the start of 2011.
I had a banana before my last run. I ran 10km (6 ish miles) Monday and it was a great run but haven’t ran again yet.
I eat salads almost every day for lunch and usually as a supper side too. Love them!

Reply

Weirdly, peach. I always thought I was a strawberry yogurt kind of gal, but whenever I have peach I think it’s heaven! And two questions: 1) where did you get that amazingly huge salad? 2) How do you eat it without it falling all over the table (huge, embarrassing issue of mine…)

Reply

You should title your spring break “Spring Break 2012: The Week of the Most Epic Salads Ever” haha. Once it’s warm put I usually eat at least 1 salad a day :) the more epic the better

I did a 10 miler on sand. The fact that I was on sand was awesome, but everything else about it was difficult. I just could not get to my happy place either, because running sand was so.much.work. Then I was just exhausted and was too proud to tell my sis all I wanted to do was nap on vacation, so I OD ‘ed on caffeine. After I got fro-yo last night I feel all is right with the world again. Wow that was rough!

Reply

It’s really tough to get yogurt up on our island, but as soon as we get back to Michigan I am going to go ham on some greek yogurt with honey and strawberries! My mouth is drooling already!

Reply

I’ve had many “runs from heck,” but it is a lot nicer when there’s someone with you to share it. I’ve had a good week of running (even though I only ran 2 days) and I eat a salad for dinner every. single. night.

Reply

So far, a very good running week! I haven’t run too far or too fast, but my legs (which have been causing me grief) have finally started to feel better. And a pain free run is AMAZING! I love the Fage greek yogurt with honey. But I always want to add more honey – I like it sweet :) I’ve been blogging for a whole 2 months and have 3 followers haha I don’t know why but I haven’t told my friends and family I’m blogging. I don’t know why…guess it’s my personal space….that I share with everyone!

Reply

I’ve been reading running blogs for months now and started my own blog a month ago :) I love it, its a great way to share ideas and to also keep track of what I’m doing. Its nice to meet new people, too!

Where do you go for 10 miles? Do you have a nice route where you won’t be interrupted much by cars? Plus, I need a running partner. Can I borrow your sister for a day?! My sister would ride her bike with me while I ran, but I probably risked her life a few extra times than I should have with my “LET’S CROSS THE ROAD NOW SO THAT CAR CAN MISS US BY AN INCH” antics.

I would honestly love to bust out a 10 mile run…I just wish I had an awesome trail to do that on!!!

Reply

Mm. I do that, too. I am a bad role model. Though I am very careful to take equal responsibility with the vehicles. They have a LOT of directions to look and so many things to watch for. I can take my share and make sure I don’t do anything stupid that would make either of us sorry I went for a run that day.

Before my last run (which was during my lunch hour today) I had a Reese’s PB Egg. Pre-run fuel at its finest! :)

I’ve been reading blogs for months and months, but JUUUUST started my own blog this month! It seems like a great way to hold yourself accountable, meet new people, share ideas, and it’s just fun! :)

Favorite flavor of yogurt (currently, because it changes like every week) is apple cinnamon chobani. So freaking good!!! But I did just try stawberry banana and that may be giving it a run for its money…

What did I have before my last run…a delicious chicken salad from an organic foods restaurant in so cal, with a side of quinoa, spicy mashed potatoes, and honey wheat bread. It was heavenly. But not a very good week running wise. My knee has been hurting so I’m forcing myself to take some time off… I hate resting :)

Oh and I’ve been reading blogs for about 2 months. But I pretty much just found a ton of running blogs and stalked through every post they’ve ever made (you’re my fav!). So it FEELS like i’ve been reading blogs for years! haha I don’t blog yet, but I definitely want to start one :)

And I eat salads daily. They’re amazing.

Reply

yea, we all have those crummy runs but it’s a matter of remembering that i kno i ALWAYS feel better once i’m done…and ur post-run grubbage was perfect bait. i do that too, i drool over the food i’ll eat later to keep me plugging away on those miles when i’m so not feeling it…lol.

great job to u and billy and safe travels!!! :)

Reply

just one question….how do you dig into that salad! it seems like it would all come crashing down with one fork stab into it!
looks yummy though!

Reply

A not so great run = an amaazing run next time :D
I usually just get plain and spruce it up with fresh fruits and stevia. But I loove the apple cinnamon, the blood orange, and lemon chobani :)

Reading blogs for a couple years, blogging since August:D
I eat a salad once a day literally. I love them! Have a fun and safe trip!

Reply

I love strawberry Ch0bani and usually have it as my 3:30 snack everyday.

Before today’s run, I had a bowl of fake cheerios and a cup of coffee. It was great running fuel, but I was insanely hungry by the end of my run.

I have no idea how long I’ve been blogging. Maybe I should look it up.

Reply

I knew one of those answers should have been an ‘A’!

Hey, even non-preggers runners have crappy runs – running 10 miles pregnant at ANY pace is still an amazing achievement to me, let alone at the ‘slow’ pace you ran it.

How often do I eat a salad? Not as often as I should. Fibre and my stomach are not good friends.

I can’t believe you had the energy to run 10 miles! I need those glasses. Just yesterday I was riding my bike and a bug flew in my eye and I couldn’t get it out until I rode home 1 hour later. Ouch! I have only been blogging about 8 months now. I love it! Running has been good for me this week. Yay! I need to eat salads way more often.

Reply

Yes, some days are WAYYYY easier than others–glad you finished, though :)

I love your mountain of a salad–that rocks! And yogurt I love lately is vanilla!

Reply

I’ve been reading blogs for years but it wasn’t until my husband convinced me to start my own that I began blogging just a couple of months ago… love it!! :)

10 miles while pregnant.. YOU are AMAZING!!
I have a TFL injury right now.. Dang hip:( So I’m on the rest/heal/recover mend for awhile and going crazy!! I just want to RUN!
I’m in need of a new hobby stat..

I have been having great runs lately and I am just soaking it up! Today was HIIT and hills and my usual ‘so fast I want to die’ speed was easier. Holla! Saturday when I was at my parentals, I went on a 9 mile hilly run (my parents live on a mountain) I still averaged a 7:30 min/mile and I will take that for running up a friggin moutain for 4 out of the 9 miles. This morning I had the yummiest overnight oats. Mmmm. I fream about that oatmeal.

I have a salad almost every day. And my fave yogurt is a toss up between Chobani apple cinnamon and Oikos peach mango. I could probably marry them both.

I am impressed you still got 10 miles in when you weren’t feeling it. Way to go. I would have bailed. I need a sister to run with me! Hope you and Billy are going somewhere fun and warm since it is going to be chilly here this weekend. Boo!

I’ve been blogging since June … so I guess 10 months? And I’ve been reading blogs for that same amount of time. :)

I’m planning on doing my long run (12 miles) tomorrow. Fingers crossed it goes well! I’m in Florida visiting my mom, and it’s a lot hotter down here! ;)

I eat a salad for lunch almost everyday because in grad school I need something that is quick, easy, cheap, and won’t make me fall asleep in class! I started reading blogs probably 3 years ago, mostly design blogs… but now they are almost all food blogs (I consider your blog a food blog of sorts :)

I was actually interested to know, how do you separate the days when your body doesn’t want to run, and it’s due to it telling you that it is tired and on the way to injury and NEEDS rest, VS. days when you are actually just feeling like a bum?! I can’t seem to distinguish between the two and sometimes force myself to run even though I maybe shouldn’t…

Reply

My favorite flavor of yogurt is plain greek yogurt (2%, not the fat free stuff). I load it up with tons of fresh fruit (strawberries and kiwi right now!) and some honey to top it off.

All week, I’ve been having a hard time motivating myself to put on my running shoes and get out the door…but as soon as I get moving, things go pretty well!

I’ve been reading blogs for a about a year. Thinking about starting one of my own soon :)

Reply

Hmm.. I only like blueberry and strawberry, so they’re both my fav. Especially with cinnamon on top.
I’ve been blogging and reading blogs for about a month. I agree with whoever said earlier–I wish I’d started reading sooner! You all have so much great info on your blogs and it’s nice to read others’ experiences with running (and food!).
As for running this week, it’s my week off!! Ran my first 50miler on Sat and have NO IDEA on the protocol for recovery. I’m guessing a week doing easy gym workouts is probably the best idea, although I’m itching to get back outside for a nice, long run :)

Reply

So far my runs this week have been great! I cut off 4 minutes from my goal time!!
Other than that, I’ve been blogging for about a month now! Yay!!
I could probably live on salad. Your picture made me even more hungry!

Reply

You could seriously win an award for salad bar creations, I can’t believe that didn’t spill all over the place. Haha!

Reply

Your salad is crazy! Looks so delish, you definately know how to get your moneys worth. One question: how do you go about eating that? I have a hard enough time at the fro-yo place eating my yogurt without my toppings spilling over so I have to wonder about a salad. P.S. I tried your method (I think it was yours at least) of putting the toppings at the bottom and the fro-yo at the top…genius! :) Hope your next run is better!!!! You are awesome for a.) running in the first place and b.) running while preggo :)

The Nike glasses are gorgeous. I recently made the switch to Oakley sunglasses and adore them! (Nike ones were nearly impossible to find where I live.)
I juuust started blogging a week or two ago, but I’ve been reading them for probably three years! Stop by and say hi anytime!

I’ve been reading blogs for a little over a year now and started my own a few months ago.

I bought the Oikos Key Lime Greek Yogurt this weekend and it is delicious!

I love looking at your salads: some miraculous cutting edge engineering stuff going on there.
For my last run I ate some chicken and rice and was still very full when I ran,not a great feeling. I have started reading running blogs for a couple of months now and start mentioning my runs on my own blog . Since I do it so often I might as well blog about it. I’ve lost my mojo on running last year and I found again after reading your blog and many others and I can’t stop now!
If you find the time, drop by and say hi.

My favorite flavor of yogurt is plain yogurt mixed with cocoa powder and served with a big ole spoonful of raspberry jam. It’s awesome.
And I’m having a great week of running actually! I’ve been struggling with back pain and finally was able to get my legs moving quickly again this week.

Reply

I came home from work today knowing I was supposed to run but didn’t feel like it. I went on twitter, saw this post and decided to do my run anyways. I’m so happy I did. It was a little hard at first but around the 15 minute mark I was enjoying it.

Current favorite yogurt flavor is blackberry!

I’m in the process of deciding if I want to blog or not.. Last time I had a blog my heart wasn’t really in it and I put too much pressure on myself for it to be successful.

I hope you had a wonderful day Janae!

I think I only got one right on that quiz. Boo.

What is your absolute favorite FLAVOR of yogurt (note: not fro-yo…I am talking about the healthy stuff;)? Pina Colada!

How many months/years have you been blogging or reading blogs? Couple years now.

What did you eat before your last run? Are you having a good week of running or a not so great week of running? Okay week.

How often do you eat a salad? Once a week currently. Once a day when it’s warmer out.

Reply

I Love reading your blogs! You share the cutest stuff! Keep it up! :)

I’ve been reading blogs for 2 and just started my own last November (I am doing my first giveaway for awesome sunglasses-please come and give me some love-shameless, I know). My favorite flavor of yogurt right now is pomegranate.

Wow. I only got one of those questions right (ground beef). Sheesh.

I had a bad walk the day after I bumped up my learn to run program to the next level (walk 1/run 1s). I should have listened to my body when it said “rest” but I didn’t and crashed 1/2 way through. Afterwards I felt sick and dizzy. Tough lesson to learn. Glad that you have your sister to run with and keep you motivated!

Fave flavour of yoghurt is probably mixed berry or apple cinnamon.

I’ve been blogging for about 6 years now. It seems like just yesterday…

I’ve been blogging for about 8 months, but I’ve been reading like 2 years longer than that.

I’ve been rocking my running this week! Ran my fastest 3 ever on Monday. :)

Good for you for getting out and doing 10!!!
I don’t eat yogurt, but I like peach chobani if I did:)
I’ve been doing my blog regularly since January of this year. I love it. And I love reading them- yours is my fave! I like skinny runner too:) hers is the first one I started reading last winter.
Enjoy your time away with billy!

I’ve been an avid blog stalker for about 18 months. Coincidence? I think not.

My running has has taken a huge nose dive. School is killing my workout schedule. My goal is to sign up for my races this weekend to force me to train.

Salad – not nearly enough.

Reply

1. My favorite yogurt is Chobani’s Pineapple yogurt!

2. I started reading blogs just a couple months ago and now I’m hooked. I love looking at food blogs because they make my mouth water and when I found yours, I am always entertained and inspired so thanks!

3. I don’t eat before I run. And this week’s running has been going great! I did 5 miles yesterday morning in spandex in 20 degree weather (totally unplanned, my fitness center was having a fitness class) but it all worked out okay!

4. In fact, I had a salad tonight! And it was piled HIGH just like yours– no idea why people go to a heavenly salad bar filling their plate only like 1/8 full?!

Reply

You should know that I yell at my parents for not giving me a super-cool older sister every time I read one of your posts involving her. Not really true (about the yelling), but I might silently curse them in my head. :) I’m 23 and in LOVE with go-gurt. I take it almost everyday in my lunch, and right now there’s a green watermelon one that looks like a Star Wars light saber and it tastes AMAZING! I’ve been blogging for 4 years now (some years more than others), but long before that if you count Xanga! Oh, the good ole days.

Reply

I hate when the person behind you at the salad bar gets antsy. Calm down and quit crashing my salad party. And I always double plate it at salad bars, the plates are too small for just one.

Reply

I eat salads for lunch 3-4 times a week. I love throwing as much in as possible to create unique salads. However after seeing your pictures I must admit….you are the queen of piling on as much salad as a plate can hold and have had some very unique salads.

Reply

I really like vanilla. I love to make parfaits with alternating layers of yogurt, strawberries, blueberries and vanilla almond granola. Mmmmmm!
My latest salad craze is baby spinach with fresh strawberry slices and balsamic glaze.

Reply

I love strawberry or vanilla flavored yogurt…although I have to make do with plain with honey because the flavored varieties available in Mumbai are loaded with sugar- I rather save the sugar for fro yo! I know what you mean about salad bars…it’s the same for when it comes to ordering: I like to take my time browsing the menu and how I want to punch the server who keeps coming and asking if I am ready!

Reply

yeah, it definitely makes a difference to have a nice pair of sunglasses when it comes to wearing them during a work-out (running or beach volleyball..etc)!

I’ve always loved berries flavors for yogurt :D

Nice run!

Reply

I don’t eat it anymore because I’m avoiding added sugars, but fage yogurt with honey (where it’s separated and the honey mixes in and gets extra thick) or chobani black cherry and chobani blood orange.

I’ve been reading Megan’s blog (munch and crunch) the longest – over three years! I have been reading multiple (zillions?) blogs for the past 2 years. I started my little blog last summer (June, I believe).

I eat some form of salad almost every day (sometimes it’s more of a lettuce wrap) or every other day.

Reply

Oh, because of your question I realized that I’ve been reading blogs for almost 6 years.. I don’t ever want to count how many hours of my life that means :D

Soo I tried cottage cheese with grapes the other day!! It was actually REALLY good! :-)

I love salads. Esp the one’s from Jason’s Deli!
