First Place and 5 Months Pregnant.

The race that I did this morning was put on by my school.  We have a sister school in Africa and every dime from the race went towards building their school a bathroom and other things…hence the name of the race:

Billy had been up all night coughing and so I made him stay home especially considering that this was the temperature my car said AFTER the race when I was driving home.

The race was put on by my best teacher friend and there were about 60 runners.

The temperature actually felt really good while I was running since I am always hot now.  The course was SHORT (it got changed last minute) so it was 2.8 miles.  My average pace was 7:05 with a time of 19:50.  It was a perfectly flat course (any incline is what gets me out of breath) and I was able to talk the whole time (don’t worry mom, I monitored my heart rate throughout the race).  I had my boss driving along side of me for a little while that I was talking with and student volunteers were along the course to talk to also.  My OBGYN says as long as I can talk comfortably while working out the baby and I are more than okay.

This morning got me really excited to see what I can do in the future for short distance racing when it is safe for me to push myself and train hard.

Pie after a race is always a good idea.

First place woman (remember the race was REALLY small) and I got a super sweet wrap skirt from Africa.   Technically my baby actually did beat me since he/she is a little ahead of me:)  Another really good teacher friend:

Did I run afterwards like I said I was going to?  Nope.  I had my couch, cottage cheese with grapes and the heater on full blast to keep me busy for the rest of the morning.

Nice job! I like the skirt and pie is always good after a race.

I ran this morning in central park for the Scotland Run- 11,000+ runners! We only got stale bagels though, no pie oh ;)

Great job! Looks like a great way to start your saturday morning. I love the skirt, so fun.

Great job!!
I like frozen fruit bars or beer after a race! :)

Congratulations to you and baby!

Best post race food you have ever had? I did a multi-sport relay race last summer with the most amazing food! It was a chicken wrap (I don’t eat meat, but everyone else loved it!), fresh baked cookie and apple. All came from a local restaurant that specializes in fresh ingredients, using many local and organic items. I was so sad that they ran out of the vegetarian wraps!

What was the smallest race that you have ever done? When was your last 5k? My last 5K was in September. But I have one next weekend!

What did you do this morning? Little League Opening Day Ceremony. So fun!

You are amazing janae! You never cease to amaze me. Great race and congrats on 1st place woman. It was so fun meeting up yesterday, we need to do that more often :)

After the Hartford marathon, they gave us HUGE loaves of chibatta bread. It was AMAZING.

Awesome job on your race!

Way to go chick!! You’re inspiring!!! I am actually enjoying this running while preggo thing…Its fun having company all the time :)

I ran a 4 miler in 2010 where there were just 32 of us and I got 2nd female as well. No prizes as cool as your skirt though :) I love the t-shirt for the 5k…lol. Best post race food has to go to the Hangover 5k put on by a local running club. They had rice crispy treats last year!

I haven’t had any post-race food as exciting as that! I need to find one. :) Although I certainly won’t complain about Panera bagels after a race.

My last 5K was on Superbowl Sunday, but it wasn’t very small (shocking for a February race!).

I did 9 miles this morning…it was tough, but now I feel awesome! Amazing what a good run can do for your motivation. Since my run, I have been out to breakfast with my bestie, and painted my office. Pretty productive!

You and the baby ran an amazing race!

Nice race J. Great cause/shirt, too. Having a baby … Your life is just getting better… Of course you can still win races.

Yay congrats!!!!!! So exciting! I’m planning/hoping to run my FIRST “official” 5K on May 23rd!

Reply

I have not run a 5k in about 2 years! My first one scheduled is May 5th. Should be interesting. This morning I went to the gym and now I’m heading to work :)
Ohhhh love the name of the race you ran!! Very cool!

Wow – I wish I could run that fast and call it easy.. Actually, I just plain wish I could run that fast :) Way to go!!

What a cute race theme!! Haha the shirts are awesome, I’d wear it everywhere just because it’s hilarious.

My last 5k was about 6 months ago, and it was a trail race during a 100km/h winds and pouring rain.. Needless to say, it wasn’t exactly a PB! The last one before that was over a year ago.. I think I’m due for another 5k soon to see how far I’ve come!

That’s awesome, congrats. I think it is impressive you are able to run an average 7:05 pace while being 5 months pregnant. I played with my kids and cleaned this morning. Now that they’re napping, it’s time for a run.

Reply

WOW!! You are super speedy even with child. Great job Janae :)

Reply

You can talk comfortably running at 7:05?!!?! Haha you have some serious lung power!

Reply

I love that you won a race 5 months pregnant running at a conversational pace. So awesome.

‘Technically my baby actually did beat me since he/she is a little ahead of me.’

That has to be one of the most adorable statements I have ever seen on a blog.

I love your long paragraph about why it was okay that you ran. Obviously you were okay, but it made me chuckle because it read a lot like a sweet little girl finding a million reasons for why she ate all of the Easter Candy ;) This post is on cuteness overload, that’s for sure.

I think you’ve really earned that ‘My Mom is Faster Than Your Mom’ onesie now!

Yay, congrats! :) I did 11 miles this morning. It was a good run, but now I’m pooped!! ;)

Nicerun, first place WINNER!!!

Great job! A few years ago I ran a 5k where the women’s winner was 9 months pregnant, she gave birth a week later. It was surreal getting passed by such a big belly. Keep up the inspiring running as long as your body lets you!

Reply

Wow you are amazing! Pregnant and still stronger than ever!

Reply

Wow! I wish I could run that fast! I did my duathlon this morning 5-32-5 and I did pretty good for me 3:38. AND I wasn’t last…not even almost last. It was a hard but fun race. We had awesome weather too! Thanks for cheering me on a few weeks ago. It meant a lot! Happy Easter to you, Billy, baby, and the rest of your awesome family!

Reply

Less productive than yours, but this morning I just cleaned up the apartment. I feel the need to vacuum frequently because my 10 months old is crawling everywhere and putting EVERYTHING in her mouth!!

Congratulations on your race! You have a great pace, reading your blog always motivate me to go running!! And sometimes it feels like I already ran just reading about your run… not good! lol

Reply

Your little one is already winning races! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for that little runner to be :)

Reply

Congrats Mama!

Smallest race I’ve ever done was 56 peeps and I was 2nd women overall :) and that was my last 5k (last Aug.).

I ran 8 glorious miles this morning :))

Reply

Gorgeous mountains and awesome run! I spent the morning hiding eggs in the park for our church’s egg hunt. It was 50 degrees at 7am and I was still cold (Phoenix is a weird place). No way could I have braved your weather!

Reply

congrats on first! even if it was a small race, that’s impressive while preggo!

i ran a 5k last year that was put on by the local greek orthodox church and they had baklava afterwards! yum!

I think it is pretty fitting that a pregnant woman wins the Run for the Potty 5K. Kinda along the same lines as the photo from this blog: http://iwannagetphysical.blogspot.com/2012/04/friday-funny-307-how-most-races-are-won.html

Nothing motivates you to finish quickly like REALLY having to go.

Reply

We raced today too! My sister was up ALL night coughing up a storm, but she rallied to complete her first ever half marathon! Couldn’t be more proud :) I love the potty line on the back of the ‘5k’ shirt! congrats!

Reply

Congrats! I love that you won while pregnant! I’m running a 5k next weekend… only my second ever. I’ve always done longer runs in the past. Looking forward to it! And I ran a 4 mile race this morning… they had crepes and egg burritos. Pretty impressive!

Reply

Smallest race would be the Turkey Trot 5K I’ve done the past two years…hosted by AM of Goals for the Week :)

The last 5K I ran was in early February. It was brutal and slow. Not such an awesome combo :P

Congrats to you and baby!

Reply

You continue to amaze me! Tell the baby congrats on his/her first race win!

Reply

Congrats! Did you get 2 medals? :)

I’ve never really done a small race. Maybe I should? I never think there’s a possibility of winning in larger races but smaller might be good if I want a title!

I ran a 10 mile training run and it was awesome!

I’m not picky about post race food. I’m happy with a bagel!

Reply

Great Job Janae :) I love that you’re running pregnant. I hope I do my next baby….if I have another.

I actually adore the wrap skirt :) CONGRATS!

feel better billster xo

Reply

Yay for you! After my last 5k (at my school), they served smoothie king smoothies and fresh cookies. It was awesome. They also had bananas and other choices, but obviously I went for the cookies!

This morning I slept in, read blogs, snuggled with puppies, browsed pinterest, and watched tv. It was a good morning!

Reply

my shortest race “ever” was the 200

As an adult it is a 5k.

When do you find out the gender again? I am super excited!

Reply

That looks like such a fun race and pie at the end is AWESOME! I ran the Scotland Run 10K in Central Park today (and PRed!).. just slightly bigger than your race with almost 8,000 finishers lol. People seriously love their running in NYC.

Reply

Great race. Today we did an Easter egg hunt 5k….my one year old daughter came first in her division (1-6 yrs). I am so proud, I think I am going to frame her medal!

Reply

Way to go, Janae!!! Iced coffee tastes extra amazing after a run!!I feel like I’ve finally my running groove back! My last 2 runs, I went out with no time/distance goals and it felt fantastic- a reminder why I continued running despite a few off months!

Reply

Best post race food = Diet Coke. Pathetic, I know.

This morning I ran 5 miles and biked two hours. It was a perfect morning in DC.

Congrats on the race!

Reply

Congratulations! That is just awesome that you are pregnant and still running!

Reply

Great job on your race – you’re speedy! I have a 5k on the 21st. Its a Dine and Dash 5k – a run and eating contest in one! There are teams of four and each team member runs their own 5k, so only 20 people run at a time.

Have a wonderful Easter!

Reply

Yay! That’s amazing…what a great cause and great success for you. Going to have to give cottage cheese and grapes a try. Well Done:-)

Reply

I love the shirts! The only thing that would make them funnier is if they were brown or a yellowish color lol

Reply

Janae you are awesome. Congrats on first place and feeling great!!!!! You seriously impress me!!!

Reply

Winning a race while 5 months pregnant!!!! You’re an inspiration!!!

Congrats Speedy Mommy! I love the shirts and the cause! Will you ask your friend if there are any left? Maybe we could work out a donation for a shirt trade???

Reply

Great job Janae!!! You are so speedy!

Very lazy day off today … Family lunch out (yum for Angus steak!) and watching Davis Cup tennis game. Czech Republic won over Serbia and we are in for semi finals. It was great atmosphere and I have never known that tennis could be such a cool sport to watch!

Reply

Wow! You are so stinking fast!! I ran a 5k on saturday and PRed with a 23:5o. I was proud of myself!! Enjoy your spring break!!!

Reply

I seriously thought I was the only one who combined grapes and cottage cheese!! Such a perfect snack/dessert. I don’t eat dairy anymore, but if I did — that’s what I’d be indulging in right now:)

Congrats on being 5-mos preg and grabbing first place in a 5K – that’s impressive!
