Long Run on a Friday.

This weekend is going to be pretty booked plus I love hotels more than anything and the idea of leaving my hotel bed earlier than I want does not sound fun so I got my long run in today rather than over the weekend.

11 miles in the book. I actually only did 8 this morning before work and 3 after work because it was early out day (end of the term wahoo). It’s better to get in the miles by splitting them up than not doing them at all.

Pretty cool that my hands are the same color as my shirt. My overall pace was 8:27 which I feel good about! I showered real quick, said goodbye to Billy (he has to fly out to LA on a different flight because he is using a buddy pass) and got some lunch.

Is there anything better than eating a loaf of bread, full of your favorite protein (eggs for me), veggies and dressings? Especially when you have a gift card from your madre (thanks mom)!

I am at the airport now and and so far five things to report:

1. I guess they don’t like it if your only form of ID is an expired license (less than a month ago and I hadn’t realized yet). I got to go through all of the fun pat downs and questioning.

2. There were men in the restroom….that was awkward.

3. Moving walkways are awesome after your ‘long’ run.

4. The Salt Lake City airport is getting a CAFE RIO!!! I may be flying more often because of this.

5. This is within 8 steps of my gate and I have an hour until my flight leaves, I am walking over as soon as I push publish.

I love flying – especially without baggage fees! Food Revolution has a great underlying message, for sure. Safe travels and hope you have a fun weekend! :)

I love turkey subs!

I’ve got a 13 miler tomorrow morning with my running group in the cold wet rain! Ahh sketchy TX weather…should be fun though!

Have a great weekend!

Have fun this weekend!

I fly a couple times a year and don’t really enjoy it. I DO enjoy taking the train, though, it’s awesome.

My “long” run will probably be like 8 or 9 miles. I love not being in training.

nice job on your run! man oh man, you impress me!

we were just flying out of SLC yesterday too! they’re getting a cafe rio in the airport?!?! ahhhh! i might just have to travel more often just because of that. ;)

Ever since I have had children – I have major anxiety flying! I am flying to Nashville next month for the RNR marathon, and I am taking two kids with me. That makes me feel a little better about flying, I don’t know why!
I love turkey on a sub. And I have never seen Jaime Oliver, but have heard stories about the show – it is crazy! Even picking out kids snacks in the store is like a full time job reading the label and seeing what’s in it, so much crap! My long run is tomorrow, and it might be 15-16 miles, but faster pace. Have an aweseome time in LA!!! So jealous, can’t wait to hear about it:-)

Wow, I’m surprised they even let you on with an expired licence! Thank goodness! :)

I’m going to be doing a long-er run tomorrow … probably 8.5-9 miles. I’m hoping to run on some trails around here. Looking forward to it! ;)

Have a safe flight!! I love love love flying. I always fly Delta {I’m from Atlanta} cause my dad has points so it’s slightly cheaper.

My long run this weekend is 3 miles. Yes, pathetic – but I am 8 weeks away from my due date!

I love traveling and like the idea of flying, but then when I do it I remember all that I don’t like about it. Living on the other side of the world from flying means we have a crazy long flight to Utah that we take once a year. From New Zealand it takes three planes and with waiting times at the airport, it usually takes 20 hours. My kids are expert flyers by now, but it’s still exhausting.

Reply

Oh yeah, I heard about that pink slime, it’s probably in our kids food too. I am constantly encouraging my kids to eat my fruits and veggies. Childhood obesity is definitely present in my classroom which is very sad, they are first graders and I have one that’s clearly over 100 lbs. I hope to get in a longish run tomorrow or Sun. I like the idea of breaking it up, but not the whole two shower thing haha. Guess I could be dirty. My first half marathon is next Saturday- I’m excited but also extremely nervous. Hope you have fun in LA.

Does your Subway serve the eggs all day long? I always want the egg, but all the ones I have been to stop serving them at like 10:30 AM or 11AM. Lame.

I fly A LOT. Sometimes I prefer to fly on my own because my husband stresses me out about getting off the plane and being first through customs. I rather just enjoy the whole experience and walk at my own pace. Favorite airline domestically is JetBlue and Virgin America. International is Emirates and Virgin Atlantic. BA is hit or miss.

I have 12 miles scheduled for Sunday.

Reply

I’m indifferent to flying … maybe because I don’t do it enough? I have a feeling I would love it if a plane took me to sort of hot locale everytime I jumped on board.

Does bacon count as a protein? ;)

Reply

I fly about once every 6 months if not more, depends where I’m going if it is interstate just get cheap airline with jet star! But international I love edihad !! I love going to airport one of the best things about the trip ! Long run this week is 30km after I get my hair done this morning. In Torquay hopefully ! And I like turkey on my subway :) but favourite post run meal is pasta :)

Reply

I love to fly!!

Nice work on the 11. I am running 8 and letting everything else be bonus from there.

My favorite Subway flavor is the Subway Club. I get pepperjack cheese on it, it is so good.

I used to travel on business every week, and at the time I enjoyed flying when my flight wasn’t delayed, or when I was headed on vacation someplace! But now I think the travel restrictions, high airfares, and being nickeled and dimed for everything have gone too far. I no longer enjoy flying because I think it’s become more of a hassle than anything else. Grrr.

I have a half marathon next weekend so I am planning to do a stepback week with a 7- or 8-mile long run this weekend. But I’ve been experiencing some hip and groin pain recently so I may skip running altogether this weekend to try to heal up. Praying!!!

Have a terrific weekend and enjoy the travels!

i love flying! i used to get super nervous, but ive gotten much less anxious. now i just love it because it means im going somewhere new!

i didnt realize his show was still on! my dvr didnt catch it! but ill be watching it right now

Reply

just kidding, I saw that one awhile ago. but its sill so shocking to watch and hear what the FDA allows.

have a safe flight!

I love flying because I’m usually on my way to meet someone I love: family, friends, or a boy. Last year I flew 7 times. Is that often? But I’m only at 2 so far this year. Continental. They usually have the lowest prices for where I’m going. (Houston -> NYC)

My long run is tomorrow, and it’s probably going to be a surprise distance…I’m aiming for 8, but my legs might be aiming for something different. We’ll see after my date with my stick/roller tonight.

I actually don’t like subs. SHOCK.HORROR! But I love Salads..which is like a sub without the bread, right? In which case my fave protein would be eggs and almonds. OMG. I’m craving Salata just thinking about it!

Reply

I love flying! I don’t have to do it much anymore, maybe only a couple times a year. The airports are my favorite part. Great people watching!

I say that LA school district show. So gross!

Reply

I fly several times a year…it’s not my favorite thing to do but usually worth it depending on where I’m going. :)

My long run is 8 miles tomorrow…after sleeping in!

Food Revaltions is kind of sad…getting kids hooked on bad food so early is just really sad.

I’m a vegetarian so I don’t usually get protein on a sammich…does hummus count? Even though I’ve been a veggie for almost 6 years, I still get cravings for turkey sammiches sometimes. So…I guess that was my favorite. :)

Happy Friday!!!

I just found out that we have a Cafe Rio in Colorado. I had Wahoo’s salad today with carne asada… I think they sound kind of similar in terms of food. I will have to check it out soon.

I have Hulu Plus and I’m constantly thinking about how worth it I think it is for the amount I use it and it’s only $8/month. Then again, I don’t own a TV.

Do you like flying? Do you do it often? What is your favorite airline? I hate hate HATE flying. I only do it if I have to, maybe once a year or every other year.

What is your long run this week? I did 16 miles this morning for my long run.

Have you ever seen Jaime Oliver’s Food Revolution? What did you think? I just watched this last night/this morning! Insane. I watched his last season but this most recent one in LA was crazy.

Favorite protein on a sub? Umm… Considering the fact that I can’t even remember the last time that I had a sub I have no idea.

Have a BLAST in LA!!!

Reply

I would be running to that chocolate shop, too!! Best way to pass time before a flight!

Reply

I have flown more recently than I have in a long time! Oct. – flew to LA for a school training; Nov flew to the East Coast for a wedding; Dec. Flew to Mexico for my honeymoon; Jan. flew to Southern CA for my 2nd marathon. I am happy to not get on a plane for a while!

Reply

I fly every week for work…its not so bad since my company pays for everything. I have so many great stories from all the traveling I do…my mom says I need to write a book. I love that I can laugh at everything it makes life so much more fun!!

My long run will be non existent this week since I did some crazy leg workout on thursday that still has me using the tub and wall for support to go potty…ugh!

Reply

Hey Janae! Have so much fun in LA! I’m running a 10k race tomorrow- wish me luck! (slash really pray for me- I’m nervous!!)

Reply

Have fun!!!

I’m dealing with an injury right now so no long run :( it’s killing me :(

Reply

Southwest is the best airliner!

This post made me laugh!! WHY on earth were there men in the restroom, Weird!! Too funny about the license, I just renewed mine when I realized it expired in about ten days. (after someone working at the grocery store pointed it out to me) I always thought they sent out notices to remind people of such things. Good to know I am not the only one who doesn’t realize that stuff ;) Safe travels!

You are amazing, I wish I could run more than 3 miles now. I don’t know if its just a mind block or what, but I really don’t have the energy anymore. I feel good about 3 now haha :). And I love your baby bump pic on HRG baby!

Have a great time in Cali! You will do so great interviewing all of the runners!

Reply

I still don’t know how you do that distance on a treadmill. Maybe it is more a time thing than a mileage thing and I just need to get over being a headcase about it. Cheers to you for getting in 11 at your stage of the baby game!

Reply

I love to fly! I fly a few times each year. Between now and the middle of May I’m flying twice from Boston to DC, once for my sister’s senior banquet for rowing and then for her graduation from college! I can’t wait. Did you get some good chocolate?! Sucks about your license. I hope you have a great weekend!

The fact that they charge for hulu plus is SUCH a bummer!!! I would totally take advantage of it on my ipad at the gym!
I’ve only seen one episode of Food Revolution but I really liked it! I also have his cookbook (my dad gave it to me for christmas one year solely for the reason that we have the same name) and it is great!!
And, I have to agree with you that eggs are the best protein on a sub. Especially if their cooked over easy so that squishing the sandwich down results in yolk-soaked bread!

Reply

I LOVE ME SOME HAM & TURKEY!!! :) mmm!!

and I HATE that hulu.com doesn’t keep ALL episodes… I have to wait for Season 3 to come on Netflix because I missed the first few of season 3 and I CAN’T watch them out of order!!! ;)

Reply

Have fun in LA!!! Safe travels, and enjoy some chocolate! Yummmmmy.

I am not a very good flier. I get totally freaked out when there are bumps. I flew a lot as a kid, so I am not sure why I am such a nervous Nelly. I squeeze the heck out my husband’s hand (who gets motion sick on planes) when we fly. Poor guy.

I heart egg on my sub too! After that I would pick turkey or chicken. I don’t like beef or pork.

I just went for my long run too! Outta the way for the weekend, and now I can have fun all weekend!!

Reply

Have fun in LA! Check out Runyon Canyon- its my favourite place to run in the city.

I fly a lot! So far this year- mexico to australia to mexico to la to japan…and soon to NYC! I like singapore airlines and jetblue. Not a united fan.

My long run this week was 14 miles… the longest I have done in a loooong time! :)

Reply

I flew today too! To SC! I enjoy it as long as i don’t have a huge bag to lug around. There’s such good people watching!

Reply

I don’t mind flying but haven’t since 2006; that sounds sad. Haha. I have not watched that show but you have me intrigued now. I’ll have to watch it on Hulu Plus while we are using it on the 3-month free trial. ;)

This is going to sound bad but I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like Subway’s. I like crusty bread. Have a safe & fun trip!

Reply

Have fun on your trip!!

As long as it’s a relatively short flight, I like it. Especially if I’m with fun people and going on a fun trip!

Reply

My long run is tomorrow – a whole 5 miles! I’ve enjoyed cutting back on mileage in the weeks after the half, but I’m ready for the mental excitement of knowing I’ve got an 8-, 9-, 10+ mile run coming up!

Subway is the bomb dot com. I love that place. It’s my go-to when I don’t want to cook dinner, because it keeps me from zooming to McDonald’s or Zaxby’s! I always get the turkey with no cheese. I’ve never tried egg!!

I fly maybe two or three times a year. I flew to Connecticut in October, and I’ll fly to Orlando in July, and then back to NY in October ’12. So three times in a year? I love it, but I think it’d get super old if I did it frequently!

I do love flying! If I had to fly every week for work or something, I’m sure I wouldn’t enjoy it so much.

I love getting turkey, chicken, or ham on my subs (I usually roll with ham at Subway because it’s cheaper for some reason).

Reply

I actually like being in an airport more than I like flying. I don’t get scared during it, but even the slightest turbulence can make me jumpy.

I like Jet Blue. Nothing like free snacks and DirecTV. :-)

Reply

I’ve actually only flown once (well twice if you count there and back), because I was terrified, but it actually wasn’t that bad. It’s kind of nice to have nothing really to do but read.

I’m with you on the eggs. For some reason Subway’s egg whites are just soooo good!

Reply

I’ve been SLACKING on the long runs lately. A friend asked me to run tomorrow.. and she won’t want to run too far. I don’t see motivating myself to run more after that. But we shall see!! Haha. I kinda hate flying, but I do prefer American Airlines.

Reply

When I fly I choose Southwest. They don’t charge extra for checked bags and you can change your flight without a fee. Plus they still give out snacks for free :) I am always flying home to visit family (husband and I live in one city and each set of parents live in a different city) and for work.

I love the Subway Melt because of the bacon. Mmmm Bacon…..

Reply

Not big on flying, our domestic aircrafts in New Zealand are pretty small (20 seaters are the norm for me) so I get scared. 14 km run today, hopefully 23 km tomorrow. Mmmm chicken, turkey or ham sub stuffed full of every vege! ( yes olives mmmm;)

Reply

Subway offer eggs on the menu??? Whaaat!! I always go for the turkey! Hope u had a pleasant flight- I quite enjoy travelling! Must be the exciting of going somewhere/on holiday!

Gonna try and knock out 6 tomorrow, don’t laugh that is long for me! Just debating trail or road….

Have fun on your trip! Hotels are the best, especially since my brother in law works foe Marriott and we get great deals.

Have an awesome trip!!

Couple things..

1- I dont like flying. We fly a lot though, esp now that we live down under. I do like airports though. Great snacks and people-watching.

2 – I ran 12.5 miles today, slow and steady. I had a route planned before I left, but at mile 4 or so, I ran by a fro-yo stand (it’s impossible to find fro-yo in Brisbane–so sad I know)…..so I changed my route up so that I could finish my run at the fro-yo stand!! I had stashed a credit card in my shorts’ pocket for Gatorade, so my new plan worked like a charm! I refueled on fro yo baby! :) It made my run awesome, and I knew it would make you proud.
Have a fabulous time in LA!!

PS- My fav airlines are Air NZ and Qantas, hands down. Im very disappointed w the US airlines these days. You have to pay to pee pretty much.

safe travels!!! man, i’m surprised the airport people even looked close enough to scope out the expiration date.

oh, i love me my subway and my protein of choice for a sandwich would be turkey. have a great trip!!:)

I am surprised they let you fly with an expired driver’s license I am pretty I have heard that is a no-go, and actually know someone who could not fly out because of it. What exactly is a buddy pass?! Have a fun weekend!!

I just stumbled upon your blog after seeing a reference at msfitrunner…love it. Your photos are great and I love the layout. I don’t like flying, but I love getting away – far enough away that it requires a flight. Actually the SLC airport is my favorite…just so many good memories of times spent in Utah that landing in that airport fills me with happy thoughts. My runs are in the 3-5 mile range as I work to lose the 40 lbs I managed to gain with 3 pregnancies and get back to marathon shape. I look forward to reading more. Have a great weekend in Utah.

Rocky Mountain in an AIRPORT?!?! Wowwww!! Get one of their crazy candy apples! :P I am not scared of flying, but I get really bad ear popping so I kind of hate it!

Reply

wooo nice split run!! I’ve been splitting a lot of my workouts lately and I kinda like it. And moving walkways are the BEST! I could play on the one at the philly airport allllllllll day hahaha. Hope you get some yummy chocolate and a good flight! :-D

Hope you have a great weekend! Can’t wait to hear about it. :)

I do love flying! Except for the cost. Southwest is by far my favorite airline.

I loved Food Revolution. People need to take that kind of thing way more seriously.

Reply

WAHOO Cafe Rio in SLC, that rocks!

I love turkey or chicken on subs–so tasty.

Reply

I was laid over in the SLC airport for like 3 hours due to a storm the day before my first marathon (in Seattle). We landed, they wouldn’t let us off the plane because of the storm, the unloaded all of our bags into the rain and then I commondeered like 15 feet of space drying out my running gear. Ran 26.2 on 2 hours of sleep.

I typically love to fly, but after 4 trips during february…multiple layovers, delays, running gate to gate, and one might spent in ohare on a bench bc of a cancellation, I’m done flying for awhile! was all worth it though :)
my long run was 11 this week, too, and I don’t know who’s legs I had, but I was bookin it.
have fun on the trip!!

Love your blog! Just started reading it this week. As a marathoner, aspiring teacher, and aspiring personal trainer, it’s great to see that you can do all these things and still have a life!

Long run this week was a 20 miler that turned into an 8 mile FAIL :P
