After work longish run and the best way to eat a cookie.

Did I tell you how I have a cold again?  Yep, that means you have to deal with me complaining about a stuffy nose and scratchy throat all over again for the second time in 3 weeks, true friends stick with you through thick and thin right;)  This time around my cold is not nearly as bad but it did keep me inside on the treadmill for my run after school.  Let me rephrase that: my run after school and after a 2 hour nap.  I am guessing that the fact that 3 out of 4 of my students are sick is how I got these germs, no matter how many times I Clorox wipe my room floor to ceiling….I am bound to catch it.

I ended up doing 10 slow miles while watching The Biggest Loser.  Even though I complained just the other day about all of the drama on the BL I still watch the show and have to know who is getting sent home each week.

Photo 3

Really flattering lighting.

Billy hit the roads while I was running indoors and we finished at about the same time.  Families that stretch together, stay together.  Can you guess whose calf is whose?

Photo 3 copy

Since we finished with our workouts and stretching at about eight we were ready for something quick, warm and filling.

Enter in chicken nuggets (from our Costco love) cooked to perfection and what else than a baked potato with sour cream on the side.  We may have accidentally bought three too many containers of sour cream for super bowl Sunday and have to use them up before they go bad which I am totally okay with.  3 times as much bbq sauce and ketchup were consumed during this meal.

For dessert, because we all know that it had to happen, white chocolate TimTams from my dear friend Lizzi in Australia.  She even included instructions on the best way to eat them to make you “so happy you could cry.”  Lizzi, you were right and turning my cookie into a straw to drink my milk really did make me cry, thank you!

Today will be a day off spinning and maybe a little stair climber.  I did squats on Tuesday and my legs have not been this sore in a long time.  You would think that running a bunch of miles each week would allow your legs to do a few squats without being sore for days but it doesn’t, I am living proof.

————————————————————–

Have you ever had a Tim Tam?  What are your favorite packaged cookies?

-#1 TimTams and #2 E.L. Fudge…..I could live off of these and I don’t understand why Oreos are more popular.

How often do you do weights with your lower body?  Would you prefer to do squats or lunges?

-Seriously, probably once a month but judging by my soreness, I should do it more often. Squats….I swear I don’t know how to do a proper lunge and I always get hurt.

Do you ever eat frozen meals?  Any meals you take straight from the freezer and pop into the oven or microwave?

-This was our first time getting chicken nuggets and they were great.  We also love frozen potstickers and frozen fish fillets.

What and where are you working out today?

We eat the Morningstar and Quorn “chickin” nuggets. They are so good, and you would never know they were made of soy. Those are the only frozen meals we really eat.
I’ve got a spinning class tonight!
Sorry that you are sick. When I taught I was sick all the time. Its the kids–they get teachers sick! Hope you feel better soon.

Reply

YUM!! I will have to try those. Have a blast at your spinning class and thanks for the get well wishes!

I’ve never heard of timtams but they look yummy! My favourite are shortbread cookies with thick chocolate on the top -our local store has them and they are sooooo good.

I just started back to using weights a couple of times a week and I hear you on the sore leg thing. The day after I started, I was hobbling around like a 90 year old! Right now I’m taking a few days off running because of a sore hip. I’ll have to resort to the cycle, which is not my favourite. The things I do for cookies!

Reply

Shortbread cookies are amazing!! HA….cycling to eat cookies….yep!!! I hope your hip heals up ASAP!!! keep me updated!

Reply

We buy a ton of frozen veggies, especially those out of season that can be so expensive to buy fresh. We also buy frozen ravioli and french fries. I worked out in my living room this morning! Didn’t even have to leave my house on a cold morning, love that! :-)

Reply

Now you have me craving ravioli and french fries! Isn’t that the best when you can get your sweat on at home!

Reply

Double stuff oreos! I only buy they once in a while, my husband will eat the whole package in 2 sittings.

I do not lift weights, eventhough we have a massive weight machine in our basement.

I do eat frozen veggies all the time and my favorite frozen meals come from Trader Joes. The have great orange chicken and bbq chicken. I had this “Guiltless” chicken dinner last night. I love their frozen baby brussel sprouts.

Already ran 5 miles this morning outside, I do not own a treadmill.

Reply

Good for you to get out so early this morning and RUN!!! Yum….double stuffed ores are the best! I need a TJ’s in my life so I can try out that chicken!

Reply

I ran this morning on the treadmill! While watching Friends. Makes the time go by so much quicker!! :)

Reply

I love watching friends while I run…the time flies by and I can watch the same episode over and over again and be happy!

Reply

I love how your ‘tv screen’ is about 1 inch away from the treadmill;-) You have an awesome set-up!

I have never even heard of a Tim Tam. We only have packaged cookies when on vacation (and we run out of all the homemade ones we brought along) and we get EL Fudge too, yummy!

Squats and lunges kill me. If I don’t go to body pump I rarely do them. But I try to do at least 1 set of squats or lunges per week (better than nothing, right?!)

No freezer food for us (besides vegis)–the husband would eat an entire bag of chicken nuggests in 1-2 days (Costco size) so its really not cost effective.

Reply

Good call on reaching for the homemade ones first! 1 set per week is way better than me…you are doing awesome! I think we might finish off the bag of chicken nuggets today:)

Reply

Haven’t had a Tim Tam. Nutter Butters!
Lower body 2x a week. Definitely squats. I don’t have great balance for lunges.
We eat frozen meals. Like the Bertolli’s dinners.
Have PT today. If I feel ok later I may go for a run.

The Kidless Kronicles

Reply

You are right about nutter butters…amazing! 2x a week, you are my hero! Let me know if you got to go run today:)

Reply

OMG Oreos are my favoriteeee! But I’ve never had TimTams so maybe I’m missing out!

Reply

My sister brought back TimTams from Aussie Land acouple months ago! So good!! :D

Reply

I have frozen veggies & Chicken wings (never know when you need to make a batch for an impromptu get together). That’s about all the frozen food I buy. I freeze loaves of bread. I buy on sale (B1G1) and I don’t eat bread very often so freezing it keeps it from going bad.

This morning consisted of a quick (cold) walk with the pup. We are going to run later because he will be visiting his BFF/girlfriend for the next couple of days while I’m in school & I like to wear him out before I send him off to be watched by someone else.

Reply

We need to have chicken wings in our freezer:) Enjoy your run later on:)

Reply

I feel like I’ve had tim tams before, but not white chocolate. The perfect way to eat them is familiar.

Hope you’re feeling better!

Running this afternoon, was too lazy to get up early this morning. It will be outside wahoo!

Hope you are out having a great run right now!

I just got done! How funny! Twas a good run, got my fastest mile in 3 miles :-)

Reply

ahh tam tam’s. one of my biggest weaknesses while i studied abroad in australia. these things are dangerous! they have lots of different kinds too!!

Reply

What was your favorite kind?

Reply

i dont really remember but i know there was a chocolatey carmelly kind..

Reply

I love tim tams so much! They have orange chocolate ones that taste AMAZING i the freezer. So excited just thinking about it ;)

Reply

Nutter Butters with jelly on top is my favorite. I love buying frozen ravioli, frozen pizza and french fries.
I hope your cold is getting better. I have a cold right now as well. It seems to me every time I am in “Taper Time” I get a cold. I am tapering for the IMS Arizona Marathon next weekend and I have a cold…ever hear of this?
I neeeeeeeeeeeddd to try Tim Tams because they look amazing and well, hte name is pretty cool too. It reminds me of the Flinstones and BAM BAM.

Reply

Yup, my friend also brought them back when she was in Australia a few years ago, they are soo good! And a grocery store here actually sells them too.
I think I might have to go with Oreos, they were my childhood favorite or Dad’s Goodie Rings…
I do lower body weights once a week, I think I prefer squats, that is until I cannot walk the day after doing them!
I actually cannot remember the last frozen meal we ate…but we do have a pizza in the freezer my hubby begged me for!
It is my rest day!!

Reply

I’m going to gloat about my run this morning because you’re one of the few who will get my excitement! So I complained how my pace suffered after not being to run for a month! On my first run back, even 10.8 km/h felt HARD….well guess who ran at 13 km/h today…well just for a minute but still (overall pace was about 10.5 km/h)! Woo for baby steps :D

Reply

AHHHH I am so so happy for you!! Girl, you are incredible and so speedy! WAY TO GO and keep up all the hard work, you are a rockstar!

Reply

The only time I strength train my lower body is when Julian screams at me or I go to Power Pump…so, not often enough! I’m so sick of the drama on BL. Hopefully it’ll be better now.

P.S. I sent you an email…just wondering about tonight? Let me know! :)

Reply

I haven’t had an EL Fudge for years. Mmm. One of the few things I miss about eating meat is having lots of different foods to dip in barbeque sauce.

Reply

Have you tried Trader Joe’s edamame tofu nuggets? They are AMAZING in bbq sauce!

Reply

I had timtams all the time when I was younger (back in oz!). There are now about 6 varieties including double filling and caramel- yum! If you get the chance, the best savoury biscuits (crackers) from Australia are called BBQ Shapes.

I don’t do any lower body work (or upper body…oops) but I know I should.

After a lazy day yesterday, I think this afternoon I will run about 7-8 miles in the park :)

Reply

Tim Tams are the most delicious thing in the whole world. There is a US version but the Aus version is infinitely better. I make my aunt and uncle mail them to me on a regular basis and when my parents lived in HK they could get the Aus version so I had them send them to me at school. I would not survive without them.

Reply

i’ve never even heard of a tim tam! my favorite packaged cookies are probably nutter butters. and i do like oreos too… don’t hate. ;)
i do one lower body weights day, and then one full body weights day… so i’m lifting my lower body about 2x/week. i definitely prefer squats. lunges kill!
i ate frozen meals all the time in college, but we don’t much anymore. every once in awhile a pizza, but that’s about it.
i’m doing cardio later today at the gym… haven’t decided what yet! probably a mixup cuz i get bored so easily. ;) have a great day!

Reply

Oh TimTams…I miss those little cookies! You can find them at some Targets and Cost Plus World Markets in the states, but never the variety you could get in Australia. My favorite was always the double dark chocolate ones and yes, they make excellent straws, and ice cream toppers. :)

Reply

I had baked potato for lunch, too!
Anyways, what I wanted to say: I found straws filled with tiny chocolate pearls (and I think there is a Vanilla flavor, too) that you drink milk through and then it`s supposed to taste like chocolate milk. They reminded me of you, and if they carry them in a store close to you, I think this would be something you should try out (if you haven`t already, because you know all the sweets ;) ).

Reply

WHAT!!! I need to find these asap!! A chocolate filled straw!?!? Sign me up!

i’ve never had a tim tam but i want one!!

i try to do weights with my lower body once a week. i was avoiding squats or lunges for a while because of my IT band problems but now that I think i’ve solved that issue I’ll need to get back into it.

i used to eat lean cuisines alot, but I’ve been trying to stay away from them..sometimes I’ll have one of the kashi frozen meals for lunch, they are pretty good when you are in a bind! amy’s frozen burritos are pretty darn tasty too.

i did 50 minutes elliptical/10 mins stairmaster/20 mins upper body weights at the gym this morning.

p.s. feel better, boooo to you being sick. the same thing happened to me over the christmas season, it sucks.

Reply

I am trying to raise my running from 3x per week to 4x per week. Today will be my 4x this week so we’ll see how my knees hold up! I’m planning a 3.5- to 4-mile fartlek session.

I just bought a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 15s a few weeks ago, and I love them! I’ve been trying to “save” them until my other two pairs of running shoes have more significant mileage (one has 90 miles and the other only 45 miles) but I’m going to treat myself today and wear the Mizunos. =)

Reply

I haven’t done leg work in forever.. I’m a wimp! The Tim Tams look fantastic though!

Reply

I’ve never had Tim Tams but I would love to try them! I like Girl Scout Samoas and Tagalong, E.L. Fudge cookies, and white chocolate dipped oreos (the kind they have out at Christmas).

I do lower body with weights 2-3x per week. Not the whole workout, but a good part of it. I do a ton of squats and lunges, and they both make me sore. Walking lunges make me so so so sore no matter how many times I’ve done them!

We buy frozen shrimp, does that count? Every now and then I’ll get a couple of Lean Cuisine french bread pizzas to keep on hand for an emergency.

My only workout today is teaching Zumba at a local gym. I may do some bodyrocking tonight if my legs feel up to it.

Reply

I am totally guessing that you are the one in pink sneakers..however I could be wrong! ;)

Reply

TIM TAMS, AHHHH!!!!! THOSE THINGS ARE SO GOOD! OK-I need to chilll, but really…my brother just got back from a semester in Australia, and we went to visit him this summer and became completed ADDICTED. While we were there we bought boxes everyday and had a carry-on devoted to those little nuggets of joy, haha. Good call on the white chocolate, that was one of my favorite flavors!

Reply

BAHAHAH I am so glad that you understand how incredible Tim Tams are….YAY for white chocolate. Hope you get to enjoy some soon!

Reply

I like some of the healthy choice steamers for frozen meals! yummm
I would rather do lunges than squats because squats feel so off for me and my trainer told me it is because i have a weird hip alignment so I always struggle with good form. booooo

Reply

I have never heard of a Tim Tam and he only frozen food I buy are veggies. So far today I have taught 2 spin classes, a bootcamp, and done the stair master. I still have a bodypump and abs class to do this pm! I love lunges and am crazy strong doing them….it’s kind weird. I can almost double my squat weight on lunges!?!
I’m sorry you are sick again. Those high schoolers are germ magnents. Here’s my advice……Use bright yellow tape as a barrier in your classroom seperating your desk, etc from them. My kids cannot cross the yellow “crime scene” tape. NOT KIDDING. Also, make sure they have their “materials” station w/ stapler, hole puncher, etc. They don’t touch my stuff. I haven’t gotten sick yet this school year………(knock on wood!)

Reply

I think I would starve to death without frozen black bean burgers- I don’t even want to know how many packages I’ve gone through over the years! I can’t do lunges either, I always tip over. Maybe that means I should work my core? Haha :)

Reply

Favorite cookies: el fudge!

I do 3 or 4 days of strength and 3 or 4 days of running. I do Jillian’s Killer buns & thighs DVD for lower body and it’s amazing!

A rare frozen meal gets eaten at our house but id rather cook most meals.

I am going for a long walk with my dog right after work and then hitting the gym for a run later tonight. Yay for cardio!!

Reply

I’ve never heard of Tim Tams before.. but they look good!!

I’m sick today too.. everyone in my office has had this awful head cold/ cough/ sinus infection and just when I thought I had evaded it, BAM. Just when I finished with the back spasms! I am going to keep running, but at a slower pace and on a treadmill instead of the freezing outdoors.

Any tips for getting over the flu/ cold faster??

Reply

I have never had or heard of a Tim Tam but I need one! In Singapore they had such delicious cookies but I can’t remember their names, I miss those! Lunges make me more sore than any other activity.

Reply

You thought it was great in milk… try Tim Tams as a straw in hot chocolate! MELT IN YOUR MOUTH!

Reply

So mad at BL. It’s all drama now. But yes, I still watch it too. :)

Reply

I LOVE TIMTAMS!!! I ate so many when I was in Australia. I’ve never had the white chocolate kind though. Don’t be fooled with the peppridge farms timtams in grocery stores… they are a huge disappointment and not anything like arnotts!

Reply

I made that mistake once… they are not the same!!! :)

Reply

My son is a ketchup, BBQ sauce guy. Your plate looks just like his does. :-)
Freezer meals are the saving grace of my family. I make most of them myself, with the make one to eat and one to freeze on method, but of course we dig all the frozen goodies from Costco. As a family of 6 you gotta have some nuggets and pot stickers.

Reply

I have a son that went on a mission to Australia and totally knows all about Tim Tams and taught us how to suck out of them. Pretty cool feeling:) You can actually buy them here somewhere, not sure where though. Have a happy day and drink lots of juice and water and rest to try and get that blasted cold to go away.

Reply

I’ve never heard of that cookie!
I usually do full body weights 3 times a week so I do squats and lunges then. I like both!
I eat frozen veggie burgers all the time. I haven’t bought a frozen meal in a while though.
I am going on a run hopefully later!

Reply

Have you ever tried taking eccinchea? I swear by it.

We rotate frozen treats from Costco. Usually one or two Per trip: orange chicken, frozen pizza, pot stickers, egg rolls, pork buns, sweet potato fries. Yum yum! Are the chicken nuggets relatively healthy?

Reply

I am going to have to try eccinchea, thanks so much for the recommendation Josephine! BAHAHAHA we do the same rotation of frozen treats at Costco, this makes my day!

Reply

I love the instructions that came with your cookies :) That is awesome!!
& girlll, I have ANOTHER cold too. What in the world is going on?! I got one & had it for about 2 weeks (over new years) & then about 2 weeks ago I got this new one..that i STILL have – longest cold ever! Craziness.
I hope you are feeling better today!!

Reply

Boo for colds! I’m suprised I don’t get sick more with three little kids and two in school.
I don’t really think I like packaged cookies – never crave them at all! Definitely not oreos though!
That’s a great treadmill run. I think I could run that long on a treadmill watching BL! otherwise I would probably chop my legs off after about 5 miles.
We really don’t ever eat frozen meals – just frozen veggies. I’ll do fish sticks and nuggets for the kids for lunch, but not really for dinner unless I’m desperate:)
I worked out at home this morning on the stairmaster. good times! Have fun not running or spinning today;-)

Reply

WHY oh WHY is the new team SO dramatic! Conda was bad enough, and then add in the two new ones! I get that they haven’t been able to build relationships with the rest of the house from the start, but they are just awfully dramatic! And anyone who says that the BL Ranch has more “junky” food in the fridge than their house at home is cray cray!!
Do you microwave your potatoes or bake a bunch at once and then quickly reheat them in the oven? I always want a baker, but as soon as I decided a baker is for dinner I don’t have the patience to wait for an hour for it to cook in the oven. HELP!
I hope you are feeling better and your 10 miler and spin sesh this am help sweat out the bug =)

Reply

I agree!!! I microwave my taters…rinse them, then poke them with a knife alllll over, make sure you get a few ‘deep’ spears in, (and make SURE you don’t cut yourself!!! *speaks from experience*) they’re heavenly…and I can still eat the skins this way. My mom is picky and ‘requires’ her potatoes to be slow baked so as the skins will be crisp…. I’m too lazy for such nonsense, and I don’t mind the non crispyness of my skins lol! I would probably use the microwave for twice baked too, but then use the oven for the second go around of cooking…

Reply

I microwave them too!! Every now and then I will bake a bunch of them but I just can’t wait an hour plus for my potatoes to bake when I am HUNGRY. Thank goodness for the microwave!

Reply

since I’m married to Tim Tan, I have bought a lot of Tim Tams, because I think it’s funny.

Reply

We live on frozen food up here – it’s easier to get a bag of frozen veggies than pick through the schlumpy offerings at our store. I try not to get frozen “meals” because they just don’t appeal to me.

Today’s workout was a 5 mile run – and it felt wonderful!

Reply

sorry that you’re sick :( I hated when I was sick. feel better xox

and when I saw “tim tam” I was immediately intrigued, as I’ve never had them…I must!

ps: your calf is the one in the tights right ;) hehe

You are right;) I think you need some tim tams in your life asap!! Thanks for the get well wishes!

timtams are delicious! my sister first introduced me to them in january after new years. i drank my hot chocolate with them, my chocolate milk, my coffee… and then of course some random ones because they are SO DARN GOOD!

i would rather do squats than lunges. i try to strength train at least twice a week!

not a frozen meal fan, although i DO enjoy the occasional slice of frozen pizza (especially if it has mushrooms, spinach & feta/goat/mozzerella cheese on it, preferably all of them)

today’s work out was 6 miles inside on the treadmill while watching the morning news! then some foam rolling and planks!

Reply

I’ve never heard of TimTams! My workout today was 3 easy miles after a 6 mile tempo run last night, and then some abs and upper body weights. I also did a bunch of squats and lunges at the beginning of the week and I was SO SORE. Running clearly does not help. Oh, and I LOVE BL. I also hate the drama, I usually change my screen to check mail or read a blog when they start getting ridiculous…

Reply

I watched the BL this morning and it just frustrates me to no end! I know it’s probably for ratings, but geeze! Conda=crybaby.

Today’s workout: Killer buns and thighs, and Day three of the BodyRock challenge :) And it would be squats. I would hate to do a lunge in front of Jillian, because my form would be WAY off. :)

Reply

My husbands LOVES tim tams. We bought them once a few months ago and spent an hour watching demonstration videos of how to eat them properly. That’s so funny. I prefer oreos. :)

Reply

I studied abroad in Australia a couple of years ago and discovered the Tim Tam Slam. Best completed with your favorite hot beverage for an out of this world cookie experience. They are by far my favorite! (I like the dark chocolate ones).

The Tim Tams look good…it’s lunch time over here so your post is making me hungry!

I did spin early this morning and it put me in such a good mood! I love endorphins!!

My favorite cookies are chocolate chip…prefer them fresh from the oven.

Hope u feel better friend!!

Reply

Tim Tams are so goood!!! I forgot about those…now I NEED some.

Reply

I love the double chocolate Tim tams. Oh so good! Hubby does the straw method too, but I love them just the way they are.

I love doing squats, but hate lunges. Nothing makes me more like my legs are weak, even though I do legs once a week.

Hope you feel better soon!

Reply

Last Tuesday I attempted the Iron Strength workout that is posted somewhere on Runner’s World. It nearly killed me. I think I actually started wheezing (I don’t have astham) and it took me a week to stop being sore. For a couple days I could barely handle stairs.
The lunatic instructor (a “doctor” btw. more like devil) said to do 4 sets of 15 plyometric jump squats as a “beginner.” I could barely do two. It was ridiculous.
I also hate lunges, but the more I do them the better I am getting. Side lunges always hurt something though.
I agree, it’s amazing that you can run forever and not get sore, but you do one little thing differently and you feel like you just walked into a gym for the first time.

Reply

Oh my goodness, that workout sounds incredibly tough! Way to do it! That devil instructor sounds CRAZY! Good to know I am not alone in the soreness department:) Hope you are having an amazing day Suzanne!

Reply

I prefer lunges over squats. I feel like I’m getting more bang for my buck!

We buy frozen veggies and fruit all the time especially out of season. A staple frozen “meal” are veggie and salmon burgers. I really like Amy’s California Burger and Sunshine Burgers. They don’t have any soy fillers and are actually veggies, bean, and seeds!

Reply

I got sick twice in a month and a half back in December. It sucks so I totally feel you. Complain away!!!!!

Reply

Thanks Claire for understanding. I hope you don’t get sick again for a long long long time!

Reply

TIM TAMS!!!!!!!!!!!! While studying abroad in Australia, we became hooked. We’d buy boxes every day. The way to eat them is definitely the “tim tam slammer” using it as a straw with a nice cuppa :) Pepperidge Farm started carrying Tim Tams in the states, but sadly they aren’t as tasty as the Aussie version.

Reply

Thanks for the warning about the Pepperidge Farm kind and I hope you get some Tim Tams in your life asap!

Reply

That Tim Tam is making me drool. Never heard of them before so how can my mouth know how delicious they are? I am also sick of all the negativaty on BL this season, and Bob, I love you, but you are so jealous of Dolvett you are the worst offender! Yet I still will not miss an episode! I love Dolvett he has the BEST attitude!! I want him to train me! Gillian video this morning and Zumba class this evening, can’t wait!

Reply

YES….Bob is incredibly jealous and it drives me insane!! Please get some Tim Tams asap! Have a blast at ZUMBA!

Hahaha Oh I am so glad you enjoyed!! I wish I could’ve fit more flavours in! :(

Also now I am dyinggggg for a baked potato and it’s only 10:15am. THANKS A LOT!

I feel the same way about Biggest Loser, the drama has just gotten ridiculous this season but I can’t not watch it! lol
Good job on 10 miles with a cold! You are a trooper!

Holy crocodile, Tim Tams! We call that little trick — where you bite off a corner on the top and bottom and suck the milk in — The Tim Tam Slam. So fun, but I haven’t found a place to buy them yet in Alabama. Cry!

Hahahha I love that the cookies came with instructions!

My mom lives in Australia, because that is where her fiance is from, and they always get Tim Tams for EVERYONE for Christmas. They are soooooo good!

Ohh yum i love Tim Tams! Original are definitely the best flavour :) I live in Australia so i have easy access to them so its funny as normally i wish i had all the amazing fro-yo & candy thats sold in America & not here!
