Triple Tangent Tuesday and The Winner

So I lost my brain (I am guessing from high levels of glucose in the form of sour patch kids) and forgot to tell you the winner of the Nike Sunglasses!

Nicole, you get to replace your cheepos with some nice ones wahoo!! Email me and we will get you those glasses.

—————————————————————–

Let’s get the three random tangents going.

1.  I learned a valuable life lesson.  Do not leave your makeup bag in the car overnight.  Certain items will freeze, for example…your mascara.  Turns out it can and will freeze.  I guess this is a good thing because this particular kind (it was the cheapest at the store) burns my eyes a little but I was too cheap to throw it away until it was all gone.  Now the wand is stuck in there and it won’t be coming out anytime soon.

—————————————————————-

2.  Billy got me the book ‘Mile Markers’ by Kristin Armstrong for Christmas and I am completely in love with it.  This book makes me want to move to Texas and go running with her and her friends everyday.  The reasons she lists for why woman run are dead on and I find my head shaking up and down (or my eyes tearing up) when she shares personal experiences about how running has changed her life.

HERE is the link to buy it online!

If anyone has any connections with Kristin will you ask her if we can be friends and run a marathon together someday? Thanks, I appreciate it.

——————————————————————–

Sometimes I wonder how Billy gets away with having strong muscles and not participating with me in Jillian’s 30 Day Shred (I swear he would like it if he just gave it a chance;) and then I realized something on Sunday:

Photo copy

It is because he does things like hold my niece up so that she can walk on the ceiling (her favorite thing to do) for 30 minutes (don’t worry, he gave her breaks to allow the blood to go back to the rest of her body) while I sit on the couch and check Facebook on my phone.

What are some ways that you incorporate random physical activities/strength training into your day outside of your workout?  I want to find some ways to get some strength training in during the day.

-Teaching PE is a huge one for me…it really gets me moving around in the middle of the day!  PS I think a lot of moms out there have some killer awesome guns because of how much you carry around kids…you are amazing.

Where do you buy your make-up?

-Pre-marriage and pre-responsibilites: Nordstrom.  Now: Walmart.

Do you have a kindle/nook/ipad thingee to read from or do you enjoy real books more?

-I was very skeptical that I wouldn’t like reading from my iPad but I love it because it allows me to read while on my spin bike and it is easy to take around with me.

TELL ME A TANGENT ABOUT YOU!!!!

I’m old school–still reading the “real” books with no plans to change lol. I love my bookshelves full of books!

Makeup comes from all over the place, depending on what it is. I spend more $ on the face makeup just because my skin will hate my otherwise :)

Tangent: Today is the first time I’ve been to the gym all year because the January crowds scare me off!

Reply

GRACIE…I don’t think that I have been back to the gym this year either, the crowds definitely scare me off too. Did you take a day off from running after your killer marathon?!?!

Reply

No, I ran an easy five – but today I hit the gym for upper only; my quads have been painful!

Reply

i would love to read that book!! going to amazon.com to purchase it right after i finish leaving this comment… :)

haha i can relate all too well on your make up purchasing where abouts comment! i used to buy my make up from sephora or nordstrom before i was married too… but then real life came and i realized i couldn’t spend all my money on make up. darn. now my make up is all from walmart. at least i don’t feel as bad if i don’t like it or if i spill it all over. ;)

Reply

My comment is almost the exact same as yours :) Great monds think alike.

Reply

MINDS. Wish I could blame that on autocorrect.

Reply

I knew you meant minds:) You will seriously love it. Oh Sephora…how I miss that beautiful store. Thank goodness for walmart makeup otherwise I would have zero make up on at all times.

Reply

Ok so I’m sure it would be awesome to run with her, and I’m also sure that book is amazing, but let me tell you, running in Texas is not all it’s cracked up to be! :) We just moved to Utah from Texas and my running has thanked me for it! Majority of the year it was WAY too hot and humid to really feel “good” while running. Humidity and intense heat are not my friends!!

Reply

Oh Camille, that sounds awful! Do you stick to the treadmill when it gets to hot and humid? I can’t imagine. Come back to Utah!

Reply

That walking on the ceiling picture is awesome! She looks like cindy loo whoo :).

I have a Nook and I love it. I didn’t want one initially, but now I think it’s the greatest thing ever.

Reply

ME TOO….I almost didn’t give it a chance. Good thing we did.

Reply

All of my makeup = from RiteAid // CVS // the nearest grocery store. Not kidding. Broke college student status FOR THE WIN.

Hahahah that would happen to me. I lost my water bottle in a lecture hall today and I nearly died of anxiety until I found it two hours later. What is my life.

Reply

I forgot about the awesome selection from RideAid! NOOOOOO I hate losing my water bottle but so happy that you found it!

Reply

I am a pediatric orthopedic nurse. Lifting traction weights and children in casts is great exercise.

Reply

I bet that is a killer workout! You must have arms of steel!!

Reply

My husband gave me that book for Christmas last year and I loved it. I should pull it out again since it’s been awhile since I read it. And pathetically as a huge cycling fan I would get giddy every time she mentioned Lance too. (Okay, so he’s probably a doper, but he’s still awesome.)

Lifting kids is my major workout. But things like shoveling snow, raking leaves, mowing the lawn, building snow forts etc. all give me a good arm, shoulder, back workout and I think it totally counts.

Even though I should, I rarely wear makeup. I get most of it from Target.

Reply

I really like Lance too! I try to forget about all of those things that have been said to him because he is an incredible athlete and has gone through a lot. Building snow forts is the BEST! Have a great day Amy!

Reply

I have an e-reader, which I love, but I do still love the feeling of holding a book in my hands and actually turning the pages. I usually use my e-reader when I’m travelling because it’s easier to lug around, and save actual books for at home.

Reply

It really is so easy to take an e-reader traveling, I am completely hooked! Have you read any good books lately that you could recommend for me?

Reply

Loved your comment Janea! My marathon was great, I just posted about it today! I am so sad I am not taking your amazing spin class at BYU. They never had such cool things when I went there:)

Reply

I want that book now. Heading to Amazon.com immediately after this. I have a Kindle, but sometimes I like the feel of a real book. I do love the Kindle for its convenience though!!

My make-up ranges from wal-mart to herbergers and everything in between. If I had zero limitations, I would shop at Sephora though.

Reply

Oh that girl is from Texas?!?! Maybe I can stalk her!!!! I wonder where she runs… now I have to get the book!

Umm I got my bf and a few guys to do the Jillian’s No Trouble Zones DVD with us and they actually did admit it was a workout – and LIKED it because she slaps the other girls on the bum and also the one thrust move on the ground where she goes ‘feel the burn! ya, you like that?’ … man, guys are ‘smart’…

Hmm… random physical activity.. kinda hard at my job, sometimes I do ‘butt crunches’ in my chair, because no one can see me do them but I think it must be perking up the derriere!!!

Makeup mostly Target honestly.. but I love Urban Decay. Sometimes I can find it on sale through HauteLook!!

I would LOVE an iPad.. but alas I cannot afford one lol. I think they should sponsor a giveaway for you since you talk about yours all the time!!!!

Tangent: trusted my friend who recently got his pilot license to take me to lunch this weekend via plane – AMAZING! even though I was so scared at first lol. Kinda like a roller coaster, all good once you’re going!

Reply

That is awesome that the bf and his buds thought it was a great workout..that makes me happy! WHAT..your weekend sounds amazing and I am extremely jealous of your FLYING around like no big deal:) Yes, go find Kristin!

Reply

I was skeptical about it at first too but now I love my iPad. Still have yet to get a book going on it but it’s on my list, my long-ever-growing list…..

Reply

Yes, try out a book!! You will love reading it from the iPad. Except I hate that you can’t read outside in the sun (during the summer) with the iPad.

Reply

Love your mascara story! I would not have thought of that!
I think that is the next book I need. I was so intrigued by her article in runners world a while ago and I get quotes by her occasionally and they’re all so insightful! I just finished The Long Run by Matt Long and it was the most inspiring book I’ve read.
I don’t get much training from everyday stuff anymore since my kids are old now and I don’t carry them around anymore. Guess I need a job or something.

Reply

YES YES YES read it. I just put a link up on the post too to buy it online. I think you need to still try and lift up your kids every now and then!

Reply

I read his story in Going Long so inspiring but I need to read his whole book. Btw, if you haven’t read Going Long you must do so, such a great book and always makes me appreciate being able to run!

Reply

I got Going Long for Christmas and just haven’t had time yet. It’s next on the nightstand! Glad to hear you liked it!

Reply

OK, going to buy that book! I think I will love it :)

I buy my Mascara from Target and everything else from MAC. I get 30% off (score!) and don’t buy it often so it lasts me awhile. Seriously, I don’t wear makeup unless I have to. Like at family photos or important business meetings, lol! I know- a real professional right here.

Reply

You will love it. Um…30% off, that is AWESOME!! You don’t need makeup gorgeous woman!

Reply

I love that book and I’ve always been a fan of Kristin Armstrong’s blog. She writes so beautifully and somehow finds a way to turn every run into a life lesson. I wish I was that smart. ;-)

Reply

I totally agree with her. I love her blog too and the way she writes gets me every time!

Reply

I laughed right out loud at your response to where you buy your makeup because if you replace Macy’s with Nordstrom’s, you’ve my EXACT response!

I have owned a Kindle and an iPad for reading, and prefer the iPad. I read while on the treadmill (bizarro I know) and the backlight is key for running at 4:30 am and not having the overhead light on.

Reply

Good to know I am not alone on the cheap makeup. I can read on the treadmill too…I just have to go slowly. You run at 4:30 a.m? You are officially my hero!

Reply

Janae!!

Being a makeup artisT I GET 40% OFF AT MAC!! Send me your order!!Xxx

Reply

You better not be joking with me. PS I need your number asap. We have a lot to talk about speedy woman!

Reply

I just got a Kindle Fire and am IN LOVE!! I downloaded my textbooks on it and read blogs from it. Best ever.

Reply

Natalie, that makes me so happy! My bro got the Kindle Fire and he is hooked too. Enjoy it!

Reply

Have you tried the new berry sour patch kids? AMAZING

Reply

Yes, Amanda…we are soul mates. They are incredible!!!! What is your favorite color of sour patch berry?

Reply

I think we might be. Though I love them ALL, I am quite taken by the purple grape ones. How often do you find sour grape? What is your favorite?

Reply

My make-up comes from Target. Since I’m a Target Team Member, I get 15% off of everything! It makes my bank account quite happy.

I was so against Kindles and other eReaders when they first came out because I love holding a book in my hands and turning back a page. I just love it! But, then I heard a woman raving about her Kindle the other day and I got extremely jealous that I didn’t have one! I still don’t..but, it’s a debate I have with my checking account quite often now.

Reply

15% off everything…that is AWESOME! I think you should go with it…you would love it!

Reply

No reader for me. On the occasion I read a book, it’s the real deal.

I get my makeup at Walgreens, Target, or Walmart. When I was in high school up until a few years ago, I bought at Dillards

Reply

I gave up my nice nordstrom makeup, too, when I had kids:( sad day. I splurge on a couple things and make them last FOREVER. so funny you talked about that book – someone just recommended her! I will def. be reading it! the old fashioned way, no fancy reader for me. although I would love one for the workouts. I do get quite a workout from lifting the kids all day:-)

Reply

Gawsh HRG… this is so awky… you must have made a mistake or something with the random numbers generator cause… erm, i didnt win? ha ha! In all seriousness well done to the lady that did :)

I find that lugging myself up 7 flights of department stairs, lugging around books, lugging around trays of coffee at my weekend job and cleaning does a bit!

I buy my makeup at superdrug and savers… Not sure if you get those in the US but they are cheapo le cheap drugstores. Also when i say I buy things there I mean once in a blue moon. Sorry Cosmo magazine, but, “replace your mascara every 6mnths”?! What kinda crack are those guys smoking on their millionaires’ yachts?

Im still on ye olde. several relatives have iPads and kindles and im very jealous. Not reallly for the reading, more cause they are really shiny.

Today I had to take a really long knee based ice bath!

Reply

I did make a mistake ha. You are hilarious! 7 flights of stairs…holy cow, that is out of control. Ice bath…good job!

Reply

I just put the book in my Amazon wishlist. Maybe hubby will buy it for my birthday. I’m still using old school books though. Hubs keeps trying to get me to change over, but I’m holding on only because I’m stubborn. No good excuse other than making him crazy.

Lugging my kids around is a workout, but my kids are pretty independent. Yard work is a biggie for me though. Shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, pulling weeds.

I definitely need some new eye makeup, but can’t make myself spend the money. The cheap-o stuff here in New Zealand (cover girl, revlon, mabeline, and the like) is crazy expensive. Like $25 for a mascara. The good expensive stuff is $60 or more. I’m going back to the states for a visit in July and need to hold out until then.

Reply

When is your bday?!?! Continue making him crazy! You are so right about yard work…killer workout. WHAT…$25 for mascara, that is scary!

Reply

Maybe I’ll talk my husband into lifting me and letting me walk on the ceiling this weekend. He wouldn’t have to exercise again for a month! :) Your description of that book makes me want to read it next! I’m excited. A tangent about me: I used half-n-half in a recipe tonight instead of whole heavy cream to be healthier…evidently it changes the way things cook! Oopsie!

Reply

YES TRY IT!!! It looks like so much fun. I think you should read the book. Courtney, that is a substitution that I would try out too. Bummer it didn’t work out!

Reply

Omg walking on the ceiling looks like the most fun ever!!!! What a great uncle! Lol :)

Reply

I wish I had a nook. I am hoping my husband will buy me one for Valentine’s Day. (Fingers Crossed).

I buy all my make up at target. I use a lot of elf products cause they are $1 to $3 a piece. I am too cheap to buy any of the expensive stuff.

Reply

I am going to have to look into the Elf products. Save money on makeup = more money for running stuff!

Reply

I love all the elf products I have tried. You can also order them online and see all the products they have. Target does sell all the products elf offers. Hope you are having a good evening.

Reply

OMG I WANT TO WALK ON THE CEILING!!! How cool is that! I actually always dreamed (like literally, at night, dreamed) that I could fly. It was like I’d seen Peter Pan one too many times. I think it started after I went on the Peter Pan ride in Disney World when I was about six. I had these dreams up until I was probably in High School. Wish those would come back…

Reply

You should totally try the Loreal Voluminous mascara! I’ve got super sensitive eyes and it’s my absolute favorite, plus it’s the cheapest at our Walmart. I’ve always bought makeup at Walmart, but I just started using Mary Kay products for washing/moisturizing.

Reply

ABBY thank you so much for the recommendation! I really appreciate it and I will be getting some. Thank you so much!

Reply

I rarely wear makeup…that is how fancy I am. :)

What a wonderful uncle to let her walk on the ceiling.

Reply

1. I really want an ipad. I am hoping to get a scholarship for grad school and I will use it to buy an ipad.

2. I never wear mascara because I rub my eyes and touch my face too much during the day and get raccoon eyes within 5 minutes of putting it on.

3. Tomorrow body pump is on. I will definitely be getting up at 5:30 to go!

Reply

If you’re in the market for mascara, you have to try They’re Real! by Benefit Cosmetics! It might be a bit more expensive than Wal-Mart, but trust me, this mascara is as amazing as everyone says!!!

http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P289307&om_mmc=aff-linkshare-null-QFGLnEolOWg&_requestid=85153

Reply

Ditto to the post above mine! That is my favorite mascara! I use all different types of makeup but most of it is either MAC, Clinique or a cheap brand from Target. Oh and Cargo–one of my favorite brands ever! That book sounds awesome! I want to read it ASAP! You should totally move to Texas :)

Reply

Been toying with buying Mile Markers myself but worried it wouldn’t be any good…definitely have some more motivation now!

I got a Kindle for Christmas, so I am loving reading on it. The library waiting lists are too long though! :)

Reply

Glad to hear you like Mile Markers. I just started it a few days ago. You are the second person to mention you like it.

When I was coming home for winter break from college I had to say overnight at a hotel. I forgot to bring my fish inside the hotel. I live in Minnesota. Did I mention it was WINTER break and that I live in MINNESOTA? Enough said? :)

Reply

I also got a Kindle for Christmas, like a lot of people it looks like! I got Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park for free…I don’t want to be overly dramatic but I think that was the worst decision I have ever made in my life. That book is so flipping long, the biggest drama so far is when someone speaks out of turn at dinner, it is like a personal challenge to finish it. I should get Mile Markers!

Reply

MOst of my makeup comes from MAC, I am just so obsessed with their eye shadows :D

Reply

Maybellines little pink tube with the green lid (at walmart) is the BEST mascara ever! even the makeup artists use it. lol

also I now have to not only shop at walmart, but buy the lesser brands :( argh

I want to read that book so bad now!

Reply

I love love my kindle <33 That and downloading books online haha. I love having a book on my laptop because I'm always already on it.

Reply

I have an HP Touchpad that I absolutely love! I can read books, blogs, and surf the internet.

Reply

I want to read that book now! I hadn’t heard of it until I read this, but it sounds like a book I would love.

Reply

That photo is the cutest thing ever! It reminds me of the things from cat in the hat. When I have kids I will totally do that!

Reply

Every now and then we get in some killer workouts by splitting and hauling firewood (there are pics on my blog to prove it lol). Playing with my nieces and nephews is a great way too!

I don’t have one, but I would love a kindle fire or a nook or something!

Reply

I’ve never frozen my makeup, but I’ve definitely MELTED it before in the Texas summer heat. Such a bummer!

Reply

Ceiling walking–now that’s a new one!

I walk 2-4 miles to get to and from my classes every day and I also walk up LOTS of stairs! I can’t think of any ideas to truly incorporate strength training into life but sometimes I’ll make myself do random strength exercises nonstop during every commercial break of a show.

Reply

Squatting/lunging while the kettle boils….some people laugh but at least my booty is getting stronger by the second ;)!

Reply

Makeup: Target for Mascara and Chapstick, MAC for the funky lipsticks and eyeshadows and Sephora for the Sephora brand bronzer and tinted moisturizer. I wish I could get it all in one spot though.

I’m an old fashioned reader (but this also means I barely ever get to read because I never actually bring a book with me anywhere I go and I’m NEVER home!)

and my Triple Tangent Thursday:
– Not even wine makes the Bachelor better or ff on the DVR, but I am still sucked in each and every week and I am semi-super embarrassed about the fact that I cannot break this habit even though I vow to after each and every season.
– I just cleaned up at Marshalls for some new workout clothes. Can’t seem to rationalize Lulu when all I do is sweat buckets in these clothes. For less than the price of one pair of Lulu tights, I got 5 pair at Marshalls.
– I’m super jealous of your winter snowy runs (i know i’ve said it before, but in SoCal we don’t have that option) so I am really excited because I am headed to Vail this weekend to snowboard and I am going to sneak in a run or two and I am so excited!

xx

Reply

I mean triple tangent tuesday. Man I wish it were Thursday already.

Reply

I wish my husband could hold me upside down so I could walk on the ceiling! No makeup for me. I get major acne when I wear makeup. Even eyeliner gives me styes and my eyelids swell up for a few days (and I’ve always used hypoallergenic brands). Maybe there’s a type that wouldn’t do it, but with the consistent results I’ve gotten in the things I have tried, I don’t really want to buy expensive makeup for an experiment.

So there’s the answer to two questions, your makeup one and a tangent. :)

Reply

Lately I am getting a lot of extra exercise from baby carrying and baby walking/rocking. My make-up is half from Nordstrom, half from Wal-Mart. That mascara is actually my favorite one! I pretty much only read books that are available for my iPad.

Reply

i JUST got a nook from my parents for my birthday and i’m super excited to start reading my books off of there! maybe i’ll have to check out the Mile Markers one u speak so highly of! :)

Reply

Unofficial workouts are that I walk everywhere, including bringing the groceries home, and sometimes I think lifting our grill pan on the stove is a good arm workout b/c it’s so ridiculously heavy!

Reply

I like warm strawberries in my breakfast oatmeal. I discovered this by accident because the only fruit we had was frozen, and I was too impatient to wait for them to defrost. So into the microwave they went. I added them to my oats and YUM. They made the peanut butter go all melty.

Reply

I typically buy my makeup at Target, but every once in a while I’ll splurge on something from Sephora or Ulta.

I have the Kindle and Nook apps on my iPad and while I like them, there’s nothing like holding a book in your hands.

Reply

haha i love it – pre-marriage pre-responsibilities NORDSTROM. I hear yah…. Man, I miss Nordstrom…
I’m still on the real books kick. I have too many to read. Once I get through all of them then I might get a kindle or ipad.
That book sounds great! I’ll have to put it on my list ;)

Reply

I had no idea mascara could freeze. I learn something new everyday! That book is on my list to read.

Reply

loved mile markers also! be sure to check out her blog. it is just as awesome!

Reply

Now that it’s snowing here, I get a bonus cardio and strength work-out from shoveling our driveway! Yay for Michigan winters :)

I buy all my make-up from Avon. It’s cheap and high quality…plus I sell it so that makes it pretty easy!

My husband just got me a Nook for Christmas! It’s wierd not having a real book in my hands, but I love how convenient it is :)

Random Tangent time…I did Body Pump for the first time on Monday, no pain yesterday, but today my arms are super sore!

Reply

Body pump KILLS me and makes me sore for a week. Way to go! Are you going to keep going?

Reply

Yes! I loved body pump and I’m definitely going to keep it up!

Reply

I love reading from my i-pad. I can read in the dark and rent books from the local library for free!! You should read Unbroken by Laura Hillbrand.. so good.

Reply

Oh my goodness, Unbroken is amazing. Thank you for letting me know that you can rent books from your local library for free…I had no idea, that is so cool!

Reply

My preferred place to buy make-up: Nordstrom. My wallets preferred place to buy make-up: CVS. If only the two could agree…

Tangent: I’ve noticed that my diet lately has incorporated massive amounts of cereal, popcorn, garlic-parm toast, and ice cream sundaes… Am I tried of any of them? Nope :D

Reply

I have a one and three year old. My oldest will occasionally ask to “fly” like a bird, So I’ll toss him up in the air and when I catch him I go into a squat so it’ll work my entire body. For my youngest, he likes to be an airplane, so I’ll have him lay his stomach on my shins and I’ll left my legs up and stay in a position that mimics the pilates hundred pose.

As for makeup I’ve always stuck with walmart and occasionally macy’s.

I prefer actual books but had to switch to the iPad because my kids would get ahold of my books and damage them.

Reply

I wear all MAC makeup. My skin is too sensitive for anything else.
