Annoying Popcorn and Running Stats

I knew I married Billy for a reason….my in-laws ROCK!

IMG 0200

I came home from school yesterday to find this box of heaven.  The best part:  when I called my MIL to thank her she said I only had to share the Pound Plus bar with Billy, the rest is all mine.  The mini pb cups and chocolate covered pretzels are already hidden safely away in a place that he will never find, muhahahaha.

—————————————————————–

Today as I was eating my popcorn midmorning snack during my prep period a huge kernel got stuck in between my second premolar and first molar (I looked up the names for my teeth, google makes me so smart).

Even though it was annoying, I still finished off the bag and then spent the next 30 minutes trying to get it out.  No luck and now I am counting down the seconds until I race into my house and get my floss.  Maybe I will go to Walmart during lunch or maybe if I eat some really really sticky carmel that will help it to break free.

I don’t know why I felt the need to share this with you but I can’t stop thinking about it.   The worst was when I had braces though….I am pretty sure every morsel of food ended up stuck in those metal pain traps.

——————————————————————-

I took things pretty easy at the gym today and wasn’t going to run but I got really sick of the elliptical (I can only handle that thing for so long before I go nuts) and the stair climber (ONE in the entire gym) had someone on it the entire time.  My workout went like this:

10 minutes elliptical

2.5 miles on treadmill

10 minutes elliptical

2.5 miles on treadmill

Speedwork: sprint to the shower and get in some more cardio by running around the locker room like a madwoman.

Some running facts from Running Times (February 2012)…..

These incredible athletes are getting faster and faster every year!   13 men broke 2:06 in 2011 alone and only 14 had in all of the years previous!

Photo 1 copy

5 men’s course records broken in 2011!!!! WOW!

What do you think….will the men ever break the 2 hour marathon!?!?!

Did you have braces?

-Yep, for FOUR years….along with every other piece of metal the orthodontist could think of to help fix my teeth.

What was the last fun thing that you got in the mail?!?!

-Chocolate, more chocolate and chocolate.

Yesterday, I came home to a box full of Brooks running gear and I love every bit of it! Little black shorts, new tanks, new long sleeve, new t-shirt, and a new pullover. I was in HEAVEN. :) Getting food comes in a close second on favorite things to get in the mail.

AHHHH Best package ever. You have to post pictures of everything you got!

I am going to ask my boyfriend’s parents if they would send me chocolate if I married him. If they say “yes” I am getting married next week.

Reply

DO IT DO IT DO IT!! If they chocolate they send you isn’t the best of the best, you should reconsider;)

wednesday I got my Hanful bra that I won from runningwith spatulas…amazing!
those stats just make my jaw drop, i cant imagine (but do dream of) being that fast. i think they’ll break 2 hours, just give them time.

AHHH That is so cool! I am so happy you won her giveaway! I think they will too…maybe not for a long time but somebody will!

i had braces and a retainer for more years than i can count… thank goodness they’re long gone now.
i got a couple boxes of cascadian farms cereal in the mail just today from a giveaway i won! woo hoo for free food!

YAY…free food is the best. Enjoy your cereal and have an amazing weekend Ashley!

I’m so jealous of your care package! I could sure go for some delicious chocolate right about now… I’m dying of boredom at work and counting down the minute until the WEEKEND! I had braces too, it was the worst.

Reply

I will send you some;) I hope your weekend comes fast and that you have a blast!!!

I definitely think they will break 2 hours – and that is CRAZY!!!! I had braces for like 3 years. and my teeth are still a flipping mess. and the last fun thing I got in the mail was probably runners world – and it’s the March issue?? Is that kind of weird? but that means SHAPE isn’t far behind. I was hoping the last fun thing I got would have been my Old Navy order or the books I got from Amazon, no such luck:( but excited to read RW!!

OMG…… those trader joes chocolate covered pretzels are worse than addictive, or maybe better than addictive…. good luck :)

Never had braces. I was the kid who was dying to get braces and glasses and I didn’t need either. Weird I know.
I used to put gum on my teeth to look like I had braces. I was a very odd child!

Reply

Did you have that dumb thing that you crank to expand your molars to line up your bite. I had that I had a huge gap in my front teeth for weeks. And that dang thing hurt. I also remember my friends having frankels, and being jealous bc I thought that they were cooler.

Oh Yum. I was craving chocolate so much today I had to make some!

I wish I had taken up running when I was in Kenya, maybe I would be faster?? Are there any good articles on why Kenyans are so fast?

Awesome care package! I love getting things I order online in the mail – if they came free that would be all the better! :) Luckily, I never had to have braces. I had this weird plastic retainer that I’d bite into to slightly move my teeth, but nothing too bad. I can’t even fathom how they run that fast…CRAZY.

These statistics are incredibly interesting, thanks for sharing. I do indeed think 2 hours will be broken in the near future. Rediculous indeed but it will happen. So so crazy how much running has evolved.

Your in-laws rock! I’m totally breaking into your house and stealing all that goodness. ;) I’ll blame its absence on Billy of course.

I wore braces in middle school through the 9th grade. It felt like I would never be free of those damn things. The last thing I got in the mail was a care package from MIL!!!! Mine was filled with lemon Luna bars (for me) and Mac&Cheese and Poptarts for Dear Hubby.

Reply

What an awesome MIL! Surprise packages are one of the best things ever! I came home today to a new pair of pants (but a package of food is waayyy better).
As for the sub 2-hour marathon, I think the guys are going to do it. They’re already so close to breaking it that someone is bound to run faster.
Braces – yes. Two years. Along with a metal thing that had to pull my jaw forward. Talk about metal mouth! I still managed to eat everything I wasn’t supposed to (popcorn, tootsie rolls, corn). I hope you’ve managed to get that kernel out by now!

Reply

That’s so sweet that she sent care packages! Haha I have to send them to myself from Amazon. And I had braces back in middle school… so awful. That would be awesome if someone broke 2 hours one day! It seems like quite a stretch though, that would be a really fast pace!

I just got a bunch of LARA bars in the mail! Score :)

I got these bad boys in the mail!

I plan on wearing these during the marathon! How awesome are these shoes?!?!

Reply

Your in-laws rock! TJs care packages are tough to top.

Yesterday I got hot pink Asics running shoes in the mail that I got on super sale. I work from home Fridays and have been wearing them around all day even though I’m inside because they are awesome.

Reply

Ooh nice work finding a family that totally understands the important things in life, haha. But all joking aside, those treats look awesome!!

Reply

I did NOT have braces … I had something much much cooler. A neck brace and lip bumper. That’s right, my friend. I had to wear this thing around my neck while I slept to help straighten my top teeth, and then I had this metal piece on my bottom teeth all the time. I hated the neck brace and never wore it, yet my teeth still managed to straighten out. Totally worth the money, right? ;)

Hmmm I can’t remember if I posted this before when you’ve mentioned the trader joe’s PB cups, but over thanksgiving my aunt’s house had an endless supply of them and Andrea & I probably ate our weight in them. They are like 1000X better than reese’s pb cups (which are also great). I’m actually sort of glad we don’t trader joes b/c my running ability would probably really decrease if I could get them anytime I wanted! :-) What you really need to do with the mini ones is make your own moose tracks ice cream! Or just add them into store-bought moose tracks and make it even better!

Marathoning is going to a new level. Look at Dubai today – a bunch of people no one has ever heard of ran 2:04/2:05 and 2:19/2:20 http://www.letsrun.com/2012/abshero-dubai-0127.php

Chocolate! I would love to have a care package like that right now. How nice of your in-laws. My MIL did give me a fantastic pair of boots for Christmas, though, and while I wouldn’t eat them (though I constantly worry that my dog will) I guess I can’t complain about her non-chocolate-giving ways.

It amazes me how fast people can be. I always get a great view of it, too, since the front-runners pass me so soon into my race. :)

Best delivery lately was a sample pack of GU that I won in a blog giveaway.

dont lie…you didnt hide those pretzels…they are already gone!! haha…busted!!
I hate when popcorn gets stuck in my teeth!!

It would be AMAZING if someone can beat 2 hour marathon. I can’t even fathom in my head how fast they go already. WOWZAS.

Reply

I had braces for two years so I guess it wasn’t TOO bad!!! Hey, at least you have an amazing smile now, right???

I think you should share the Pounds Plus bar with me too!!

Reply

I totally agree with you! The elliptical bores the heck out of me….I don’t know how I used to stay on there for an hour at a time!

Reply

YES! Eventually they will, look up Boston Marathon times on google and see the first finishing times to now. Its crazy insane how much faster these men are going! And I got my philosophy purity face washes in the mail today :-) my absolute favorite cleanser around!

Reply

Someone at my school organized a staff run after school. So.much.fun! Reason #326 we should teach at the same school.

Reply

Don’t all those stats make you wish you were Kenyan? Sheesh, they are running rock stars. I sure hope someone breaks the 2 hour marathon, and I hope I am watching it when it happens.

I had braces, but not until I was 19! Yikes. and Nerdy, the worst part was that I paid a full on $300 just to have my braces taken off for the week of my wedding.

Wedding pictures are forever, no braces in those!

Reply

I swung by TJ’s on Wed after work, my boyfriend mentioned that if the mini PB cups and some beer fell into the cart, he would be just fine. He’s already eaten all the PB cups. Should have bought another container to hide : )

Enjoy all of your goodies!

Those men are simply incredible. Breaking 2 hours sounds a little impossible, but who knows. It could happen!

What an awesome gift from your MIL!?! I’ve gotten two fun packages in the mail this week! A necklace from my mom, just because, and my order of new running clothes from Oiselle!

Reply

Those stats are awesome, thanks for sharing them! I think some wickedly talented prodigy runner will break the 2 hour mark at some point; then I bet you’ll see more do it. It seems that all it takes is one to show others that it IS possible, then others do it too. Like Roger Bannister and the 4 minute mile- people tried for years and it was considered impossible to run a mile in under 4 minutes- and since Bannister actually did it in 1954, lots of runners have done it. I think it’s a psych thing, once you know it IS possible, people believe they can actually do it.

Latest thing I got in the mail = new Lululemon tank top to match my ridiculously bright rainbow shorts :) So excited to have a tank that actually matches my shorts and won’t blind people :)

I hate when I get popcorn stuck in my teeth. FACT!

I made myself a blog book of me and my family’s life in 2008 and ordered it a couple weeks ago. It came today and I am so loving it.
I have never seen any of those things in that box before except the salad dressing. Must be from trader joe’s?

Reply

thats amazing your inlaws sent you a foodie package!! they must really love you! its so nice how close you are to them :D

i graduated college in may so i long for those care packages…in my opinion, starting working in a new city by yourself warrants a care package WAY MORE than being sheltered at college where meals are pre-paid for :) !!

I just had the same problem with some popcorn last week – and I had a dentist appointment that day! I had to make the dental hygienist believe that I had just eaten the popcorn and it hadn’t been stuck there for a week.

I was lucky – not even a year of braces, and only on the top! I also got lucky with wisdom teeth. I just have one and don’t have to have it removed. Yay!

Reply

Last fun thing I got in the mail was candy, cookies, and wine from France from my awesome pen pal!
I think you also go cookie butter a while back. I was wondering what you thought of. Did you like it and what did you eat it with?

Reply

I had braces for two years and they were the WORST! As soon as they came off I ate tones and tons of apples. It was so freeing.

Reply

That would be incredible to see some one run a 2 hour Marathon , and I never
had to wear braces , I do love how you bogart all the sinful goodies you are so bad,
but in a good way :>)

Reply

No braces for me! Though now I’m thinking about them- my teeth are shifting a bit from grinding… Booo…

The only thing I’ve gotten in the mail are textbooks, but they’re about Shakespeare, so I find them VERY exciting!

(^I’m not being ironic, I really do LOVE Shakespeare.)

Reply

did u happen to check out the results for the Dubai marathon that happened thursday? FOUR men went under 2:05 and three women ducked under 2:20…smoking fast! the guy who won was only 21 and it was his first marathon…that’s the ethiopians for ya. hehe

Reply

I just got my first packet of protein powder in the mail…Sunwarrior, baby! And as crazy as it sounds, I definitely think someone is soon going to run a sub 2-hr marathon…some crazy person!

Reply

I had THREE phases of braces. Not fun. I’ve been meaning to comment about your new cottage cheese obsession. I blend mine up and add in a ranch packet that you use to make ranch dip with and you have yourself a yummy protein packed dip or dressing or whatever!

Reply

LOL i hate when things get stuck in my teeth! popcorn is the worst because the kernels are hard and its actually kind of uncomfortable lol. Hopefully your students didn’t make funof you too much at least! :-D I really like your workout mixup actually, I get SO bored using the same machine! And yeah, I definitely think that three hour barrier is within reach….maybe not this year, but soon. I hope its Ryan Hall that does it lol <3 <3 <3

I think they’ll break the 2 hour marathon in the next 5 years.

I had braces when I was in high school my Freshman and sophomore year. I got them off the week of prom when I was a sophomore.

The last fun thing I got in the mail was a huge box of goodies from Luna!

Reply

I got the honey wheat pretzels today! So good with PB or hummus. TJ’s is amazing, and clearly so are your in-laws

Reply

I think they will break 2 hours, but not sure how long it’ll be before it happens. Too bad none of those super-speedy guys ever run St George. They would probably come pretty close flying down that course!

I had braces from 12 to 15 years old. 2.5 years. Did you have to do those elastics? Those were funny. Hated when I got the next level of tension on the elastics because that always meant slightly sore teeth.

My bottom teeth bounced back to 50% of the original crooked-ness within like 6 years of getting them off (and I wore my retainer nightly). Top teeth haven’t shifted too much, thankfully.

One day it has to stop. They can’t just keep getting faster and faster. I don’t know when it will be…but there will come a point at some time when no one will be able to run faster. Because we’re not going to get someone Usain Bolt’s speed that can hold it for 26.2. (I hope…)
