You know you are extra cool when two hours after you go to the store to buy your nephew donuts you notice you have donut glaze all over yourself.

When I licked it off it was a great little sugar pick-me-up as I was driving to the gym to get some strength training in.  I got home and I noticed there was some on my face too…double score.

Photo 2 copy

These are the beauties that I picked up!  Pretty sure the ginormous glazed ones are actually cut using the top of a bucket.

Is that mean to show you delicious donuts first thing in the morning?

Of course we didn’t let them dig into the donuts until after we filled them up with a nutritious dinner of $5 buck pizza served on paper towels, keepin’ it classy.  I also had my mound of fiber on the side…dinner wouldn’t be complete without it.

I think we have a rock diva on our hands.

IMG 9975

Billy is not a fan of dancing but once you whip out guitar hero he lets loose.  They played for so long that they formed calluses on their fingers.

IMG 9981

After about the third hour of guitar hero we took an intermission for dessert.  The girls only finished about a third of those huge donuts (they could probably use them as hula hoops)…do not fret, we did not send her into a sugar coma.  That is one of the beauties of children….they know when to stop and when their body can no longer handle any more sugar…..I have a thing or two to learn from them;)

IMG 9983

The girls and I finished the night watching Jimmy Neutron in bed.  Does it get any better than that evening?

———————————————————————–

If you could have any donut in the whole wide world magically appear in front of you right now….what would you choose?

-Apple fritter with a mug of hot chocolate (I know, that wasn’t part of the question).

Any guitar hero fans?

-Yep, but I am terrible at it.

What was a ‘special’ treat that your family had growing up?

-My sis’s families special treat is donuts but growing up our special treats involved ice cream….hmmm interesting.

What is a fitness challenge that you are working on?

-More strength training, let’s see if it lasts longer than my usual one week.

I don’t like donuts…..but I LOVE yogurtland! My family is all about the ice cream, fro yo, and frozen custard. MMMMMM

I am not really a guitar hero fan….I am a dance dance revolution kinda gal ;)

And my fitness goals include improving my speed, agility, and strength in all areas that I teach in (Zumba, pilates, BodyPUMP) and in running/plyometrics! And with that……I am off! hehe.

Have a good day, girl!!

Reply

YOU TOO!!! I love that you teach so many classes! I hope you had a great workout!

Reply

How’d that donut glaze end up on your face, too, girl? ;) Haha.

I haven’t had a donut in years! That will have to change! I would opt for anything with chocolate frosting.

I remember one Christmas break, when Guitar Hero first came out, I would sit all day and play it. I loved it. Now I hardly play it at all :(

My family is a big ice cream family. We probably go through 20 gallons a week! It’s never really a ‘special treat’ because it ends up being an everyday occurrence!

And, I am trying to get more cross training in. I do a lot of running and strength training, but I should probably do some cross training, too.

Hope you have a terrific day!

Reply

I don’t know!?!?! These things just happen to me! I think you need to change the lack of donuts in your life TODAY!!! 20 gallons a week sounds pretty amazing to me!

Reply

ohhh hot chocolate sounds amazing right now

we were an ice cream kinda family growing up.

AND I am on Day 10 of P90X! It’s kicking my you know what but in a good way!

have a great day!

Reply

CONGRATS on P90X!! That is KILLER, keep me updated with how it is going!

hahaha that last picture of the “little one” killed me. The donut is wayyy bigger than her face. I came to your blog to comment on this morning’s post but it wasn’t… here? Oh well, your curled-in-the-computer-camera hair was super cute.

Reply

I made amazing PB Cup donuts the other day so I would go for one of those right now, maybe it should have been my breakfast!? Darnit.
Oreo cookies and chocolate pudding were common treats in our house.
I want to have more balanced workouts now that running season is over for me – more yoga, strength and spin class!

Reply

PB CUP DONUTS…..I must have one asap!! YAY for spin class wahoo! Now I am craving oreos dipped into pudding:)

Reply

Ummm THANK YOU for bringing back Jimmy Neutron to my mind. I must go rent this immeditely. When I was a little girl we used to go watch my brother play saturday morning basketball and i always got one of those coffee rolls with frosting……….. and finished the whole entire thing within 5 minutes. Oops.

Reply

YUM….those sound amazing! What a fun saturday morning! Jimmy is on Netflix instant:)

Reply

I love donuts soo much but if I ever eat one, it’s all I can eat the entire day..my tummy doesn’t like them like I do! The best donuts ever are at VooDoo Donuts in Portland, I wish I could live off of their donuts!!! I’m not a fan of Guitar Hero, I prefer Dance Jam on the Kinect :) my fitness challenge is running my first marathon next month!!! I can’t wait!! Have a great day!!

Reply

AHHH, I have wanted to go to voodoo so so bad! That sounds amazing! Dance Jam is way fun too. You are going to rock your marathon wahoo.

Reply

Janae, I want those donuts NOW! Ah, they look so ah-mazing! I am so envious of your time with the little tykes! They are so adorable and it absolutely melts my heart to see how much fun you have with them! How’s the lil’ guy doing? His shiner makes him look pretty tough!

If I could have any donut in the world right now, it would be a blueberry cake donut. Love guitar hero, but I too, am horrible at it! As a special treat, we would have ice cream from a place called Baskin Robbins. So, so good. My current fitness challenge is the Chicago Marathon on Sunday! After that, it’s high time for me to get back to the gym and hit the weights hard!

I have been loving your blog posts recently, Janae! One of the best parts of morning is reading your posts. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for Billy for an awesome LSAT score (I’m a relatively newbie attorney, so know the joys of the LSAT, applying to law school, etc). I have no idea where I’m going with this comment. . . Just wanted you to know I think you’re fabulous! Have a happy Tuesday:)

Reply

CHRISSY!! Thank you so so much for your sweet comment, you are the best!He is doing so much better and feels awesome…especially after eating the donut! I am SO STOKED for you to do the marathon and I better hear all about it. YAY for weights:) THat is so cool you are an ATTORNEY!! Thanks for your thoughts, I adore you!

I could totally polish off one of those humongo glazed ones in like 2 minutes flat…i’m the pinnacle of healthy eating if you didnt know. I dont even think i’ve SEEN a donut that huge, yet another reason to get out to Utah soon, haha. Boston kremes are my favoritest donuts ever though :)

I used to love guitar hero. Until my brother played it non-stop and now I cant stand it. I threatened to break the guitar into a million pieces before I moved out of my parents house. And you know thats serious bc i’m the one who bought it to begin with. torture device I tell you!

special treat that we had growing up…there was a portuguese bakery on the corner and we would wake up early on Sunday and get a box of elephant ears still warm from the oven. soooo good!

hey, we have the same fitness challenge…i’m hoping my resolve lasts longer then a week as well!

Reply

Oh girl, I polished off both of theirs:) You better not be kidding about visiting Utah. I am drooling over your elephant ears tradition. Girl, WE CAN do this:)

Reply

I REALLY want an apple cider donut with a side of apple cider to dunk it in. Oh man, that is what I’m getting after the marathon…like on the drive home!

My current fitness challenge would be the marathon. I’m psyched, but terrified at the same time. At least I’ve figured out what I’m wearing :).

Our special treat growing up was Swedish Tea Ring. My grandma used to always make it for us. Now, we don’t see my grandparents as often, so I’m in charge of making tea ring for Christmas every year.

Reply

yes. yes, it is mean.

send me a donut?

Reply

what a fun night!! Those donuts look insane in the membrane…I love the ghost looking one your nephew is mowing down on!! What a fantastic aunt you are – I can’t wait for my sisters to help me out in that department :)

Reply

I have been told I take guitar hero way too seriously but I sure to love it :)
and my new fitness challenge involves more strength training. I am really trying to work on some toning! And I want abs again, I had them one day so I know they are in there.

Reply

I’ve seriously never seen a donut that big before, that thing is insane! We used to get fresh donuts on Sunday mornings when we were kids. I miss those days :(

Reply

You are seriously the coolest aunt ever :) Can you and those donuts come to Delaware and hang out with me too?

I was super craving a pumpkin donut from dunkin’ donuts on Monday but I was running late for work and I had to choose between stopping for dayquil, or getting a donut… had to go for the dayquil, was too miserable without it – *sigh* not a choice ANYONE should have to make on a Monday morning!

Current fitness goal:

Strengthening my quads at home by doing several exercises… and they are kicking my butt! BUT if I keep at it, hopefully I can run longer, stronger and faster without any knee pain… here’s hoping!

Reply

Your nephew is the cutest kid in the planet!! Best donut I’ve ever had is a glazed one from this cafe in Nigeria called Chocolate Royal- orgasmic! My fitness goal is building up to 10 miles. I crossed off my long run of 7 miler yday- woo! Have a great day!

Reply

Your little curly haired niece is always so cute… all of them are, but she’s always so adorable with her big smile and curly blonde locks. :)
And holy cow, those donuts are massive!! If I could have any donut, I would have a Krispy Kreme chocolate glazed donut (or two or maybe three).
I love Guitar Hero – so fun! I’m terrible at it too though…I always choose the easiest songs to make me feel better about it.
A special treat my family had growing up was Krispy Kreme donuts on Saturday mornings. Mmm I miss those days.

Reply

Hahaha! Those donuts are as big as their heads! It reminds me of a Food Network show I saw once…”Doughnut Paradise”. There was this one donut shop that had giant donuts like that and also had ones that were voodoo donuts (kind of strange).

Reply

Where in the world can you get donuts like THOSE!!!? haha Is that your little neice? That donut is bigger than her! SO cute <3

I am a Bostonian and grew up on Dunkin' Donuts.. yeah yeah I know they are not the best but the coffee rolls are insanely awesome. I really cannot remember the last time I had one (years and years and years ago haha) But when my sister and I were little we would stay with our dad on the weekends and he would take us to Dunks in the morning and I always had to get the coffee roll. I think it was because it was the Biggest!

My boyfriend and I are slightly obsessed with Rockband… kind of similar, right?

My Grandfather would always treat my sister and I to those Italian Baci chocolates RIGHT before bed when we stayed him and my Grandfather during summers.

My fitness challenge is NOT overdoing it with my leg. It is recovering form a stress fracture and I think I have been a liiiittle overzealous with my running lately. I am working on patience fitness! haha

Reply

A coffee roll from Dunkin Donuts. We have Rock Band and LOVE it. So much fun. Special treat for us growing up was sugary cereal. I am working on my endurance and my strength.

Fitness challenge – FIRST triathlon on Sunday. Have I trained? NOPE.

Reply

That is the BIGGEST donut I have ever seen! Holy smokes, a hula hoop for real!

I never liked sweets so growing up McDonalds on Fridays was a treat for me. How times have changed! I haven’t been to McD’s in years! I love sweets now though so I’ll take anything. I like chocolate coconut donuts but I rarely eat them!

I am also working on strength, especially in my upper body! Good luck :)

Reply

HOLY MOLY those donuts are HUGE! I’ve never seen such a big donut in my life. Your little niece is so cute holding it- it looks like it is the size of HER! lol! :)
I would LOVE to have a blueberry donut from Dunkin’ Donuts show up RIGHT this very minute. I would be in donut heaven ;)
I have never played Rock Band..believe it or not. I’m just not into video games. I don’t know why, I just never liked them too much..except for Donkey Kong!

Reply

So photogenic in the pic of you, the kiddos, and the pizza.

Chocolate long john……with fall colored sprinkles.

Our treat would be actually going out for the treat…….going for ice cream, going to Baker’s square for a piece of pie, getting a mrs. fields cookie at the mall etc. Pretty sure my parents used dessert as “something to do” when we were kids.

Fitness goal: more stretching or yoga.

Reply

Oh I’m all about the apple fritters girl. Those are dangerous.

When I was a kid we used to stop by the grocery store every Sunday after church to get donuts.

My fitness challenge right now is to try out some new classes. I just joined a new gym where I moved and so far have only done solo workouts, but I want to try out spin, yoga, and body pump. For spin, can you just wear regular running shoes? I know people have spinning shoes, but I do not. And yoga, do you need your own mat? I’m clueless.

Reply

YAY FOR NEW CLASSES!! You can definitely wear regular running shoes but I like using cross-training shoes instead of my running shoes because I don’t want to wear them out. Depends on the gym and yoga mats..some do, some don’t. I think you can find them for super cheap (I got mine at TJ MAXX) because sometimes the mats are really gross. GOOD LUCK and let me know how they go wahoo!

Reply

MMMM doughnuts. I love a maple glazed long john filled with cream, not the yucky yellow custard stuff, but the white yummy cream stuff.
I love guitar hero.
We ate ice cream as a family treat.

Reply

Now I am totally craving a maple bar filled with cream…delicious (agreed about the gross yellow custard). COME OVER FOR DONUTS AND GUITAR HERO:)

Reply

That sounds like a great afternoon. :-)

Reply

I have never seen donuts that big!
I want one!!!
So glad to see your nephew is making a speedy recovery, sugar speeds recovery!!!

Reply

It really does:) I WILL SEND YOU ONE!

Reply

Love the love in your family! So precious. My favorite donuts growing up were old-fashioned cream filled. Basically a HUGE glazed donut with vanilla pudding inside. Amazing. And I like blueberry cake donuts, too. :)

Reply

Those donuts are ginormous! They remind me of something that would be on Man vs. Food. The kids are adorable eating them!

I love an old fashioned donut with maple glaze. I would fight someone for the last one. Serious.

My fitness challenge is to incorporate more lower body strength training into my routine. I think it’ll help me build up my running endurance and hopefully break 4 hrs in my first marathon.

Reply

The same sized donuts were on M vs. F one time ha. Maple glaze is billy’s favorite too! WAHOO for more strength training and girl, I KNOW you will get that sub 4 marathon!! Can’t wait to read all about it!

Reply

I haven’t had a donut in the longest time! I used to like the plain glazed heated up or chocolate frosted.
The treats we would get when we were younger was definitely ice cream! It was my all time favorite.

Reply

I think you need to get yourself a donut:)

Reply

Apple fritter. Always an apple fritter.

Reply

Thank you, I could not agree more with you:)

Reply

I want one of those ginormous donuts!!!

Reply

Where did you get the doughnuts girl! I am a Provo native…Would love to get one of these for my husband!!!

We always had treats growing up so I can’t think of one that was really specific…no wonder I can’t lose weight!

Reply

They are from Macey’s grocery store!! Girl, we should go for fro-yo someday!!

Reply

Like everyone else has said, those donuts look SO delicious! And I don’t normally like donuts!
growing up, treats for my brother and I were ice cream, but now I’m definitely more into baked goods- brownies, cupcakes, ANYTHING with frosting!

I’m in the middle of training for my first marathon and it is definitely a fitness challenge!

Reply

Your posts always make me so happy, I am quite glad you had such a nice night with those little guys :) The size of that donut just completed my morning!
For my friends several years ago, instead of a cake she had three giant strawberry frosted doughnuts with rainbow sprinkles instead of a cake. Twas fabulous, and we each go to have a massive portion
I am a fan of guitar here, but like you, I am rather terrible at it!
Special family treat- the cake we always had for my older brothers and my birthdays- homemade yellow cake with chocolate frosting, simply delicious :)

Reply

When I was growing up, my dad would pick up donuts for after church on Sundays. The problem was that I only like the icing of the donuts, so I’d get in trouble for just eating off the tops, oops!

Reply

seriously!?! those look like the most amazing doughnuts ever. ahhhh. i need those in my life!

Reply

What a super fun night with the nieces and nephew!!

Reply

I am not a huge donut fan-UNLESS they come from the Donut Plant. BEST DONUTS EVER. You MUST try them when you are in NYC-soooooo yummy!!!! Tres leches and the valhrona chocolate and the coconut are my fave!

Reply

same as you apple friter! yum….or a dutchie :)

I really want to eat one of those huge donuts though. I’ve never seen them so big.

We used to play rock band. I suck at the drums but everything else I’m ok.

Reply

Seriously could a Monday night get any better? Love it!!! Those donuts look yummy and you need to convince me to strength train with you. I can only last about 5 minutes in the weights sections.

Reply

Why has nobody combined the maple-glazed donut with a custard-filled donut bar?!?? That would be the best combo ever…. P.s. Of you want to ogle at donuts for a little bit, google “Psycho Donuts San Jose” :)

Reply

OMG, the picture where she has that huge donut in her mouth, hilarious! i was worried until you made a point to say they only finished 1/3 of it…I am sure you enjoyed the rest! lol

Reply

Still praying for your sweet nephew. You are a wonderful auntie to bring him donuts and cheer him up. He’s blessed to have you and Billie!
If I could have a donut right now….I’d probably want a pumpkin pie one.

Reply

Those doughnuts look incredible!!! :D
For a special treat we used to go buy giant cookies from a local bakery! I always got chocolate chip with buttercream frosting! :D

Reply

This post makes me so. hungry. I need to find a place that makes that size of doughnuts…or I’ll have to stick with eating 4 of the normal sized ones. The Little One is too cute!! Janae, you are the best aunt ever!

Reply

I NEED a sour cream cake glazed doughnut from Krispy Kreme. NEED.

And, yes, it does get better than that- but only by just barely. Doing those things with YOUR OWN children will top any event in your life. Promise :). (But a sister’s kids are a very, very close second).

Reply

That is a seriously huge donut.. did the kids finish them?!?!

Reply

Favorite donut is peanut!

fitness challenge is healing my stress fractures that just WILL NOT go away!
I want to do a 70.3 Tri in June 2012.

Reply

Hmm, so many donuts to choose from BUT I would have to go with an old fashion (boring yes delish heck yes).

Love guitar hero but not so great either.

Favorite treat were the Perugina’s Baci chocolates – my papa would give my sister and I one after dinner every time!

I should definitely do more strength training but I am currently training for my first 1/2 and my first full marathon -ehhk!-

Reply

Chocolate glaze with sprinkles. Yumtastic.

I like WATCHING people play guitar hero… but I don’t like playing it because I’m terrible and thus too competitive to let myself enter a situation where I will lose to a 2 year old.

Special treats: S’mores :)

Fitness challenge: 10k – I’m getting there!

SO GLAD to see your nephew appears to be doing okay. That is one heck of a black eye! Hope you had a great day, Janae!

Reply

I will take one of those chocolate covered…YUMMY!!! That is a very pretty picture of you, with and without the glaze ;)

Reply

Our family treat was ALWAYS ice cream. Now it’s ice cream or sbux!! I love it!!!! I’ve been challenging myself with strength training also. I accidentally overdid it last week and I was super sore. So hopefully I can find a happy medium.

Reply

I have been craving a pumpkin donut like CRAZY lately!

Our family treat was donuts back in the day. Whenever we had a sleepover, my dad would show up with donuts in the morning. Also, on holidays, we ALWAYS have cinnamon rolls.

My fitness goal right now is training for my first half marathon next month–excited!

Reply

I would wish for a chocolate cream filled from Dunkin Donuts. Yum.
I love guitar hero, but I am only so-so at it.
I am currently working on slowly building up to where I was before my injury- that’s my fitness goal :).

Reply

Holy Cow! Those donuts are huge! I’m not a huge donut fan, but the hot chocolate sounds amazing right now as I’m cold and tucked under covers. Fall is officially here in the Midwest!

I’m a guitar hero fan, but just for fun. I’m pretty sure I will forever be on the intermediate level…

My family’s special treat growing up was definately some form of ice cream treat or around Christmas time my mom’s homemade Christmas cookies, yum!

My current fitness challenge is strength training and CORE. I’m trying to take advantage of the off season to fit these things into my schedule! So far, so good, but I’m on week two of this mission, so I’m sure its going to get more challenging, but I feel much better when I have time to incorporate strength training into my training. Good Luck fitting it into your schedule as well :)

Reply

Holy ginormous donuts!! If I could have any donut right now it would be a pudding fulled donut! I love the pudding filled ones :)

Reply

Holy moly, those donuts are HUGE!!! I cannot imagine even eating 1/3 of one!!
