IN MONTHS.  I think my last run outside was HERE which was way back when in JULY (and it didn’t end well).

Today I did my favorite 3 mile loop (after doing weights and elliptical with sister).

Favorite things about my run this morning:

-No garmin and ran completely according to feel.

-An amazing breeze and at the same time feeling the sun beating down on me and absorbing some Vit D after a week of being inside way too much.

-Being forced to stop at the perfect time at stop lights to allow my heart rate to reach a normal level again.

-Um, hello….running OUTSIDE and not on a machine at five in the morning.

I was extremely happy….that is, until I had to go to work.

At least I was able to convince my Drivers Ed students to make an emergency stop at Subway for a foot long ham sandwich (extra jalepenos).   Once again, I amazed my students at being able to finish that sucker off.    Good thing I was wearing a shirt that is the exact same in the front and the back because the student breaked hard at one point and mustard got all over me…..I just turned it right around at the next potty break and will spend the rest of the day with a huge yellow spot on my back.

My mother and I have finally found our perfect hangout spot.

You see, she does enjoy ice cream but she loves cupcakes way more.  I would chose ice cream over a cupcake any day of the year and these two places are right across the street from each other.  Match made in heaven.

Fruit/chocolate chunks/vanilla ice cream (they offer custard, ice cream and fro-yo and I always get their ice cream because it is creamy heaveniness).

Photo

Last but not least I made it to Costco to finally get groceries.  I will confess that I waited in line for a Cinnabon sample for 10 minutes.  I went by myself and came up with at least 10 excuses to give to Billy about how the crate of cinnamon rolls accidently landed in my basket.

Anyone else ever have to work on Saturdays?

-Just when I am doing extra drivers ed stuff.

Have you had anything SWEET today?

-Mango on ice cream is a must.  If you haven’t tried it, go right now.

Do you have a FAVORITE loop to run on….your go to run when you don’t feel like planning a route?

-Three miles of right turns:) Never have to cross a busy street!

Sometimes if I have an event for work or something I will have to work on the weekends, but it’s not too often. The last Saturday I worked was because of a 5k and I was more bitter I wasn’t running than I was at work haha.

I haven’t, but I think I need to go remedy that ASAP. It’s just not right.

I’ve been running the same out-and-back loop for a few weeks now. I like it because I can see how much farther I make it each week when I add mileage and it’s the same road I drive to work so I can be like OMG look how far you got self! Go you! AND there are good visual landmarks I can use to set goals for myself. Oh and it takes me exactly 5 mins to warm up by walking up the hill to get to the road.

I only have to work (or be on call ) Saturdays if we are doing some sort of launch or system release. So not lately.
I had a peach and a nectarine and some swedish fish at the movies.
I don’t have a favorite loop. Our neighborhood is hilly but I have figured out a 1.5 mile loop that I do when I don’t feel like driving somewhere else.

mmm cinnamon buns mmmmmmm

Congrats on your wonderful run! :)

I treated myself to a yummy margarita after running a half today and I enjoyed every sip! As for loop runs…in theory I like them better than out and back runs, but in thinking about, I realized all of my favorite runs are out and backs on trails. And I don’t work on Sat, but my husband coaches college and they have games on Fri and Sat :) I hope your mustard stain comes out!

When I’m feeling really lazy about plotting new routes I just hit the river path a half mile from my house. I’ve run it so many times that I know exactly where all the mile markers are and where to turn around depending on how far I was to go.

And major congrats on your first outdoor run!!! Awesome sauce!

I love running outside on country roads, the only problem is that it is pretty dangerous with all the highway traffic and my family/loved ones cringe when I say that I run it. I really started to think about it, and I think it is time to find a new route.

Congrats on your outdoor run!!

Yes, I do work Saturdays. I work at two libraries so I end up working most Saturdays every month. However, it’s only until 1 or 2 so it’s not that bad. :) Plus today I came home to my copy of Kara Goucher’s running book. Yeah!

Definetly ate a ton of chocolate today! Haha :)

I made pumpkin brownies today and snuck a corner piece already ;)

I had *some* fro-yo. The 3 yo ate most of it. It was fab, though. I love running the brooklyn bridge or along the bay. So nice.

NO SHAME IN THE CINNABON GAME, BABY! those things are so stinkin’ good. and yay for an OUTSIDE run! what a great morning. :)

Congratulations on your first run outisde..I’m so glad you enjoyed it! It’s so great to run without a bunch of gear..you are so right!

Ummm yummo, that dessert looks so tasty. Why is icecream SO amazing? I could literally eat it every.single.meal.seriously.

Dessert? Me? Today? Actually I have to finish this comment because my apple pie just finished in the oven..NOM NOM NOM :)

Have an awesome rest of your weekend!

I went years without running outside (kids in childcare at the gym was the only way to get it in). Now that I am back outside (early AM’s, usually) I cannot believe I went so long without it. Fresh air.

Something sweet … kale and froz blueberries, with yogurt and OJ, blend and serve to me and children. Blending with froz blueberries is about the only way to get green vegetables in the little mouths.

I have a 6km loop with all rights and no major stops. Its great for a quick tempo run, well except the back half is on an incline :)

One of the best things about where I live is the variety of routes I have made up from my doorstep. I have an easy three miler, 6.4 mile loop, 9.5 mile loop, 8 mile loop and 4.5 out and back with a big hill (ok, truthfully, it is an overpass, but there are no such things as hills in NE Florida, only bridges and overpasses). When I need to go out for a long training run (like tomorrow morning’s 17 miler), I just combine a couple of routes. Love. It.

congrats on the run, janae! way to go! and yes – i do the “right turns only and no trafiic lights” route designs, too!
i work every saturday – busiest day in retail. and today was INSANITY!
i would choose cereal any day over ice cream or cupcakes – really. cinnamon toast crunch and reese’s puffs (yes, together!) coming right up!

yay for outside running!! i hope all of your bones enjoyed the run as much as you did :) my easy outdoor run is a 2 mile jogging trail around my apartment…I end up doing lots of loops

i have to work 2 weekend shifts per month, but I usually work Sunday nights so then it’s still like I get a whole weekend

My favorite route is just over 3 miles and I love it. It goes down by the water and I get to run along the piers. It’s actually the only route that I can take where there are minimal hills…any other direction I’ll be going up and down huge hills forever!

My breakfast was sweet. A bit like a peanut butter cup. It was oatmeal, with a banana, chocolate pudding, and peanut butter. It was so yummy (which is why I eat the same thing every morning, haha.)

I don’t often work on Saturdays, but I definitely workout–ballet, then pointe, then 5 more hours of assorted hip hop, jazz, and contemporary–about 7-8 hours. Sounds even worse when I right it down lol–no time for breakfast this morning, but lunch was pretty good and was finished by a fab chocolate chip cookie=)

I live right by this open space area with some ponds and dirt trails. It’s really beautiful and it’s an easy 3 mile loop! I took pics of it this morning for my blog (although the run was definitely not a great one!!)

I’m excited to be running outside too! It’s nice for it not to be blazing hot by 6 AM every day. I’ve got a favorite loop too!

There seem to be several items that tumble into our cart when we grocery shop. We are both guilty of adding things while the other isn’t looking!

Since you visit here often you’ll understand that there are MANY awesome loops to prance around in Orange County :) Happy that you got to get back out on actual pavement. And I don’t think you should feel bad about the subway 12 incher…everyone knows they really want to order the whole sandwich at subway and are just holding back!

Running outside (and without a Garmin) is like the best feeling in the world. It’s how we should run ALL the time! Glad you had fun!!

Woop woop! Non-sucky runs are the best! I did my first outdoor runs in MONTHS (after a horrible winter that just. would. not. END!) and it felt so good to be outside! with stuff to look at and people to spy on! bahaha so much easier to be entertained :D

I have a 4 miles of left turns route.
I had a yummy chocolate long john today. Like 6 months ago I got into this doughnut for dessert thing…….it is still hanging on, usually weird cravings faze in and faze out much quicker. I take that back ice cream was a 2 year craving.
You need to treat Billy to a study break and take him to that Moneyball movie. It is great!
I am so glad there is another day to the weekend……I bet you are too!

I can’t wait to see that movie!

Congrats on your run outside! that is awesome :D
Running outside is one of the best things ever…especially in the fall.

I can not believe you finished off a foot long!

Congrats on your outside run, that’s awesome!! It feels so good to run outside after treadmill running for a while. I’ve been doing treadmill running because it has been way too hot! I am a ice cream/fro yo girl and my mom is a baked goods girl too. (Ice cream is WAY better)

SO glad you had a great run outside!! You look like your sister in this picture – such gorgeous ladies!

Work on Saturdays?? Well, I don’t have any daycare kiddos – but have 4 of my own. Nope, no work on Saturdays. :)

Sweets today = IronGirl Bar. Yeah…pretty lame to count as sweets, but I prefer my indulgences be salty or made from barley and hops!

Go to route – catch the trail that runs 1/2blk away from our house and run till I hafta turn around. Of course, not in the dark…yeesh!

I’m a nurse at a hosptial so I get to work on the weekends and holidays too. It’s great fun. I like to do an outside run on a paved trail near the house thats a 7 mile stretch. Pretty scenery and lack of cars makes for a stress free run.

Reply

I did my first run outside in a long time today too! 2.5 miles so I’m not near as awesome as YOU! Go you for taking things easy and doing it good this time! :) Hooray for subway rewards! (too bad they don’t have those cards and stamps anymore)

Congrats on the run! Must have felt fantastic.

I had a dark chocolate covered marshmallow Peeps pumpkin today. So excited that these are back again. They’re so good!

You make me miss my old stomping grounds. I had a 3 mile out and back that I knew inside and out. And I loved it. Now I have to find a new path. And I totally live in the magical land in which you are always going uphill. I’m determined to find the path that always goes downhill. Or at least find a path that I don’t need to bring directions to navigate.

SOOOOOOOO happy for you b/c I LOVE running outside and it looks like you had an awesome run. LOVE that workout colour combo as per usual :D

Mmmm ice cream! Congrats on the run! No feeling of accomplishment quite like a good run! Did I have anything sweet yesterday..do I ever not? haha! Amongst the many ‘sweet’ things I had, the oatmeal pancakes I ate for breakfast and the Madagascar flavor of Lindt before bed particularly stand out! Working on Saturdays–> story of my life!

Exciting stuff that you are back outside! I love running without the Garmin the odd time!

oh, I need to convince the hubby to take me for ice cream and starbucks today. I wanted it the other evening, but by the time we finished dinner, they were closed. Yes, our starbucks here on base in Korea closes at 7:30 pm. I’m pretty sure it is the only one in the world that closes that early.

Congrats!! I definitely miss running outside When I’ll actually get to run outside it will probably be freezing…which is fine because I’ll rock the cold gear :) Have a great Sunday!

Congrats! Running outside really can be the best form of therapy sometimes :)

My favourite is the t-shirt “running is what everything else isn’t” this is so true in my books. Love their products!

Wow. Three miles of right turns. I need one of those!!!!! I’m impressed with the footlong sub too!

Yay for running outside!!! I’m glad you felt great!

I don’t have to work at my 8-5 job on weekends, but sometimes I do freelance stuff. I sort of hate it.

Reply

Good job on your run outside! I love running outside, it seems so free!

Reply

yes : ( actually had to work yesterday. we have to every third sat, and it never gets tolerable…its a full day, 9-6, and i never like it. even w/ a day in the week off, it never feels like a compensation.
running outside is the best! no matter how slow/fast, long/short, its just so nice to go in my usual areas/loops. so happy for ya, btw!

Reply

soooo getting caught up on your blog and this post caught my eye!! soooo happy for you friend! running in general is the best but running outside is amazingly refreshing! i want to run with you at some point this week :)

I miss all my favorite runs from back home and in Provo. I had some great ones. I am working on figuring some out on the island, but it is just so darn hot all the time. I’ve never felt heat like this. And my quad has been hurting, and so I’m just lazy and go on the boring treadmill every single day. Ah! What kind of runner have I become?! I do really miss running outside. And I’m scared my treadmill training does not measure up to my road training. Oh well. :(

Sorry for this lame-o comment. I’m so glad you got to run outside! I’m glad it went well.

Reply

Congrats on your outside run NAKED!!! (no Garmin) Sometimes, I am too obsessed with that thing, I want to tape over the pace part and then analyze post-run to see if my body is learning to “know” what a certain pace feels like!

Fro-yo…get in my belly!

i finally got a costco membership and can’t wait to go back!!! Maybe tomorrow?!

Had Panera’s iced shortbread cookie for a sweet and definitely have had my fair share of Saturday jobs..lifeguarding, event planning for weddings, babysitting..etc.
