Triple Tangent Tuesday!!!

What up homefries?  I don’t know what that means but my hip students say words like that so I am just trying to be cool like them.  I also still shop at Forever 21 and watch the same shows that they do on ABC Family in hopes that I stay young.

In case you are new to the game I like to tell you 3 tangents on Tuesday that I think are awesome.

1.  My mom brought lunch to school today and I spent 30 minutes chillaxin with the madre over Wendy’s salads and lemonade.  It was heavenly.  Now I just need to find a way to brainwash her into thinking that this should be a daily occurence.

My favorite grilled chicken, apple and pecan salad.

She brought me NEW RUNNING SOCKS because my nephew may or may not have thrown away half of my socks on Sunday night. Dear Billy, I promise to keep my sock matches together because remember when THIS happened?

—————————————————-

2.   Randomly I thought of a weird game to get my students to participate more in class and it worked.  Please keep in mind that I don’t teach first graders…..this was a class of 17 year olds.

If they answered a question correctly, they got to have the gold star and hold it on their forhead until the next person answered a question correctly.  Only one persons arm fell asleep from holding the star up because I forgot to ask another question for 20 minutes.

I was shocked that they had so much fun with this and they tried so hard to get the gold star…….good to know that my weird mind helps me to be a better teacher.

3.  What was I thinking having a flower bouquet at my wedding….

I should have had a candy bouquet……

Tell me some TANGENTS about your day!!!

Do you organize your socks?  Any tips on how to be responsible and not loose them in the sock black hole.

If you could be ANYWHERE in the world right this second, where would you go?

-I just watched a House Hunters in Southern France and it is all I can think about.  I am going to start a savings jar to put all my coins in to start saving up!

What did you have for your last lunch date?

-WENDY’s!

My last lunch date was yesterday at a local sandwich shop with my kiddos. Oh wait, unless you count going to a local bakery for doughnuts at lunch time as lunch. Which I totally did. So that’s the most recent.

I want to go to New Zealand super bad. Or to go visit my sister who lives in Exeter England right now, that would be hecka awesome.

And I totally am going to start saying “homefries”. Possibly with air quotes every time.

Last lunch date was that delicious salad with all the other awesome bloggers!

Your bouquet was gorgeous! :)

I <3 the South of France – we went there on our honeymoon, AMAZING! Next on my travel list is Africa! I want to go on a Safari!

I like the gold star idea, teaching is so much more fun when you can get high students to buy into silly games, love it!

You need a lingerie bag for running socks, put them right in there after taking them off. Zip up, wash, dry, and fold.

I HATE SORTING SOCKS. Seriously, I put off doing my laundry for as along as humanly possible just so I can delay the agony of trying to match socks. If I was responsible, I’d buy all the same kind. Instead, I go into a store and think, “Oooh! A pack of 6 pairs of UA socks, with 6 different colors of logos!” Repeat every time I’m in a running store. Then, I do laundry I can’t handle it if they don’t match. Takes forever. Plus, my dog likes to steal my dirty socks and build nests with them to cuddle in under the bed. (Cute? Adorable? Both??)

Lunch date- I went to a local bar with a friend for lunch yesterday because she was having a really awful day. I ordered chicken strips and fries, which I never do…but it was awesome. :)

I’m going to cheese out on the last question. Really, I’m just jonsing for some time with my family. I miss them like crazy and would spend time with them anywhere right now. Although, considering we’ve had a record number of days over 100 this summer, maybe I’d choose somewhere cooler. Like Alaska.

Organize socks?! No way! I don’t even wear matching socks EVER cause I always lose one sock, and the way I see it, why waste the other good sock?! Definitely not abnormal to see me wearing one shorty running sick with a knee high sock :)

Reply

i like ‘homefries’–it is fun!! :)

I had a lunch date with sisters and ate delicious salads and warm bread. MMM.

I am a huge fan of gold stars!!

I SWEAR socks disappear so fast! Where do they go? I can literally buy a jumbo pack from costco and they’ll all be gone within a week.

If I could be anywhere in the world right now..it would be snuggled up in my jumbo comfy bed..no seriously. I’m sleepy and that sounds SO good right now:)

I totally found the socks black hole in my washing machine and it’s behind the drum! Well, I think that’s the correct name for it, I don’t have a degree in washing machines, but I’m pretty sure the socks and underwear that go there are gone for good. I tried to break apart my machine (I use the term “break” very loosely), but no luck!
I totally love the gold star idea. I’m 29 and can still be convinced to do things with the promise of gold stars :)

i am praying that you had the berry lemonade because it is amazing and i’ve been dreaming about it day and night since i tried it! i am seriously trying that star game. pretty sure my kids will think they are too cool. but i’m still trying it. you are genius.

You wedding flowers were very pretty…..not as sweet as candy though ;)

My last lunch date was with my daughter at chipotle. It was a nice break from shopping for school clothes all day.

Reply

I had a lunch date the week of in-service – SUSHI!!! It was the best! We also went to Jason’s Deli one day and it was delicious as well.

Tangent – I do weird things like that with my students too! I teach 7th grade language arts, and sometimes it gets so monotonous going over grammar rules and exercises. I have them stand up and if they know the answer they have to do something weird (strike a ballerina pose, jazz hands, matrix pose, hit the floor, etc). They enjoy my craziness, and I’m sure your kiddos do the same!

I have a separate drawer (in a rubbermaid 3 drawer thing I have in my closet) just for athletic socks. My socks never ever match, so i just dump them all in there and grab 2 every morning. Currently I have on one neon yellow sock and one purple sock. Perfect for my Zumba class tonight ha!

If I could be anywhere….I would choose Virgin Gorda in the BVI OR Italy!!!

Reply

Tangents: 1) I want a chocolate chip cookie, badly. 2) My sock keeps getting sucked down into my shoe. Why does that happen? Do I need sock suspenders? 3) Just learned I have to go to AZ for a business trip in a few weeks. Isn’t it hot there?

I have an infatuation with all shows abc family (especially Secret Life, Pretty Little Liars, and Make It or Break It), and I teach high school as well! Let’s just say we’re doing research to better understand the age group we’re working with!:)

Reply

Last lunch date was at Panera Bread..Tomato and Mozzarella Panini with their Seasonal Flower Iced Shortbread cookies with Mom.

Probably Italy!

Reply

LOL You seriously crack me up.

Anywayssss, I could think of like a thousand places I’d want to be right now… Fiji, Italy, Australia, Greece, Maui, Bahamas, Cancun, Spain…the list goes on! Too bad traveling is way expensive, and we’re way poor.

Last lunch date: Cafe Rio!!!

Reply

I’d go someplace tropical- some place where there’s really blue water! I am an Elem Sped teacher- your star question game is a good idea. I’m terrible with keeping my socks organized. There are times where they don’t get into the drawer folded (and stay in the laundry basket), b/c I don’t take the time to fold them!!

If it makes you feel any better about talking and dressing like your students please know that I once got counted in attendance call by a student. I was a teacher assistant helped a disabled boy in the back and the substitute teacher and added me in the count for class. Did I mention I was working in a SIXTH grade class? BTW, before he found out I was a TA he gave me a lollipop for being so “good”. I thought he was just really impressed by my TA skills. Once he figured it out he asked for the lollipop back. I had of course already eaten it. OOOPS.

haha, i like your game. Its so fun! i’d play. And your mom is super cute, what a fun date!

I went on a lunch date today too, with my 85 year old great aunt. It was hilarious in a really fun/I love her way! bahah :)

Reply

I too am a teacher but a kid at heart, I love ABC family shows and still get caught shopping at Abercrombie or Forever 21, I know I need to grow up! If I could be anywhere in the world right now, I would probably be in the Carribian laying out in the sun and reading a book. I miss my pool days :(

Reply

I want to see more of your wedding pics! They are GORGEOUS.

Reply

YAY i love you and your mom she is the cutest in the world!!!!!!
hahaha that is hilarious your students loved that game hahahah on 17 year olds love itt!
and last lunch date…I CANT EVEN REMEMBER! that is sad!!! hahah
love you<3

I had a Wendy’s salad today, too! It was the spicy chicken caesar. It was pretty tasty (though I wasn’t sure at first about the lemon poppy caesar dressing). :) I just kind of toss all my socks in a drawer…not highly recommended. My hubby rolls his together in a pair…I think this system works much better. :)

Reply

Your moms a teacher too?

Reply

No….I wish she worked with me. She actually works with my Dad a few days a week and she just came to school to visit me. Have a great day Becca!

Reply

I can’t believe that hold-this-star-on-your-forehead worked for your class! I substitute teach, so I might have to try that one… it must have been all about the presentation. “Holding a star on your forehead is such a party!” I’m officially going to try this tomorrow and I’ll get back to you on its success!

Reply

No worries, I still shop at Forever 21 too and watch shows on abc family and the CW lol

Reply

No tips for the socks..I always put my Thorlos on one side, and fuzzy socks on the other side of the drawer. Thorlos make up probably 3/4 of my sock total.
I’m playing around with the idea of moving my family to Denver for the month of May next Spring.
Lunch Date – Greenlife bar (Whole Foods)

I do not organize my socks. :( Sadly I have a habit of leaving one sweaty pair in my shoes just in CASE I can’t find a pair when I want to go out for another run. It’s better to be SWEATY THAN SORRY.

I totally understand the star game. That’s genius! I’ve taught K-12 and that would basically work for any grade. You must be an awesome teacher!! :)

:) :) :) I just got back from a run. Can you tell by how happy I am!??!

Reply

My tangent…I rapped 3 times in front of my students today, and sang a random song about what it means to motivate a person. No…I’m not an elementary school teacher. :)

Reply

You need a kid. I make mine sort the socks. Also each boy has only one kind of sock & they are colour coded. Mine, on the other hand, are all the colours of the rainbow ;D

Reply

comments instead of tangents (except my last lunch date was for sushi! and i have THREE scheduled for the last three work days this week!):

that salad is nowhere NEAR big enough for you. ;-)

and thank you for slipping in a random wedding photo. :-o that is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I can’t imagine life without organized socks. I fold them up right after they come out of the dryer. Do it in front of a movie and it doesn’t feel like work. In fact, I have come to enjoy folding laundry because I can “work” while I watch tv.

Last lunch date? Today at Panera. Me and wi-fi… we’re a hot item!

Reply

Ok, first things first…I wrote a post about my favorite foodie blogs and runners blogs and you are on it! I can’t tell you how much I enjoy reading this blog. I secretly hope to one day meet you and talk for hours over delicious food. I guess it’s not a secret anymore.

I try to orgnanize my socks but it doesn’t always work out. I have a few mismatched pairs, but when you need socks to run, anything will do, right? If I could be anywhere in the world right now, it would be Lanikai, Hawaii. We went there on our honeymoon and I dream of the day we can go back. On my last lunch date, Adam & I ate The Corner Bakery and I had a grilled chicken panini with a site ceaser salad.

Reply

OH MY GOODNESS…your post made my day! Thank you so much Tabaitha! I left a comment in which I used way too many caps and exclamation points!! I have never been to the Corner Bakery, can we go together!??!

Reply

HAHAHA I’m trying that sticker thing TOMORROW!!

Reply

I would go somewhere with no humidy and the temps are an average of 75. Love the sticker idea!!! Why couldn’t I have teachers cool like you? And with the socks? There is a sock monster. I know it.

Reply

Ha ha ha! Candy boquet- that was a classic.

As for Tangents: My house smells like a fast food joint thanks to me. I made Pioneer Women’s fried chicken strips. They were both delicious and disgusting. They tasted great, but my stomach is NOT loving the fried food lately. Boo to that.

Reply

OMGosh! Love your star idea:) I teach 10-12 yr olds and I think they would hate this but I would love it!!!! They would probably want to encourage their classmates to answer so they didn’t have to hold it up anymore :)
Also, you always look comfortable in your school clothes and I’m very jealous. Since my face looks like a 16 yr old instead of 23 yr old I feel I must wear heels and very nice clothes to distinguish between myself and the kids… :( it gets old.
Have a Happy Wednesday! :))

Reply

HA!!! TRY IT!!! They will love it I promise!! I am usually REALLY comfortable. I have mastered how to dress at school following the dress code yet still be able to be crazy comfortable;) I should wear heels and nice clothes but I am too lazy ha!! Hope you have a great day tomorrow at school!

Reply

I know some people say to put one sock in the other when you wash them so they don’t separate and still get clean I guess. But since I personally think matching socks are overrated I just you use a mesh laundry bag or lingerie . It is SO convenient, and you NEVER lose socks! Just throw all your socks in the mesh bag and into the washer they go, no more missing socks :)

Reply

I’m a sock nazi – if they have a hole, gone, if they don’t have a match, gone! I loathe not being able to find matching socks, so those are something I make sure to fold and put away every week!

I’d go to Key West right now, and live in a little house by the beach! We went for a week last summer and have been talking about moving there (only partially joking) since we came home!

Is it bad I can’t remember my last lunch date?! Eek!

Reply

safety pin your matchie socks together before you throw them in the dirty laundry bag :)

Reply

What Southern France? Boo. What about Switzerland? I guess we can drive to France in under two hours when you come here.

Reply

My boyfriend and I went out for sushi last night for dinner! Yum!

Reply

I had that salad for lunch yesterday too (for the first time) and man, it is surprisingly good! I was sad I got the small one after I tasted it.

Reply

I love Wendy’s salads! They had the Berry Almond salad over the summer but I think it’s gone already. :( And I HATE matching socks. I have a laundry bag full of singles that I add to every time I do laundry. Seriously, where do these socks go?

Reply

now THAT would be a cool bouquet. noted.

Reply

Use a lingerie bag (you can get them at any lingerie store) and throw your socks in there! It’s a bag that zips up that you can throw in the wash (to protect your bras and such); anywho, that way you won’t lose anymore socks and all the pairs should stay together!

I just watched KUWTK and now I want to go to Bora Bora~!

My last lunch date…. I think was at costco as well! We had poutine and a couple hot dogs!

Reply

This post totally inspired me to walk down to the local Wendy’s on my lunch break to try that salad. HOT DANG! I could swim in the dressing. SO yummy!

Reply

I am so so glad you liked that salad, I always ask for extra dressing to take home and use on my next salad that I make!

Reply

I still can’t get over how gorgeous your wedding pics are! Not that I am rushing or anything, but they really make me want that day to happen for me too!

I am sitting in a juror’s room, so my lunch is an orange and a luna bar…booo…my last lunch date, I have no idea when it was…Tripp isn’t that romantic and my mom lives too far away :(

Reply

I would go to New Zealand or Cananda :-) Aahhh…that would be HEAVEN! <3 *wishful face* I too need to put pennies in a coin jar. Good call. Last lunch date I had salt and vinegar snack-a-jacks (like mini rice cakes, so yum!) and a hummus and roasted vegetable sandwich with my boyfriend…so yum and fun. :-)
Laters homefry! ;-) <3 xyx

I always wonder when I will stop liking the same shows/music/clothing stores as my students. I think it’s much more embarrassing for them when they say “Miss! I have that shirt!” than it is for me. I am obsessed with their music (hahaha.. “their”) and I love shows like 90210, Gossip Girl, and Pretty Little Liars.
Your mom is the cutest, and I am so trying that gold star thing. It’s like HeadBandz, only cooler!

Reply

I will never get sick of seeing photos from your wedding day! So beautiful. I’d like to be back in NYC at our lovely hotel! It’s nice to have someone come in and clean up after you everyday. :)
