SHARKS and family conversations.

Please enjoy the exact dialouge from lunchtime today with my BIL that is 16 years old:

Jimmy walks into the kitchen and says, “WOW….Janae, have you been to cullinary arts school?  Your salad looks better than any restaurant I have ever been to.  I NEED to have one of those ASAP.  P.S. Janae, thank you for being the best sister-in-law I could ever ask for.  I really look up to your amazing robot dancing skills, all-around awesomeness, ability to not shower for days and sense-of-humor; because of that I will give you my iphone because you no longer have one and my debit card for you to spend all of my money on running shoes.”

Janae says, “Why, yes Jimmy, I would love to help you make a beautiful salad full of nutrients and happiness even though I am busy lesson planning for the upcoming school year (okay, I admit the part about lesson planning is the ONE and ONLY lie from this whole post).”

IMG 8287

So we chopped, we laughed and we rejoiced by eating our 3 lbs of produce.  Too bad he had to have my other BIL help him finish it off.  It takes a lot of practice to be able to fit that salad in.

IMG 8289

I wish I could tell you that I have done anything productive besides watch the ‘After the Rose Ceremony’ and googling 1 million different cupcake recipes, but I haven’t.

Now, I am eating popsicleS (yes, that is plural, one is not enough) while watching SHARK WEEK.

IMG 8294

And Billy is eating his Dreyer’s smoothie thingee.   I keep telling him to go outside and get a little color but he won’t do it.

—————————————————————————

Do you watch SHARK WEEK?  Do shark’s scare you?

-For some reason they don’t, I find them really interesting and I love learning about them!

What is something PRODUCTIVE that you have done today?

If you were handed a debit card with $100 on it RIGHT NOW and had to spend it on something fun…..what would it be?

-Call me lame, but I would drive straight to TJ’s and buy a lot of fun food products and then use my own money to go buy another pair of running shoes.

Productive…mmm yes. Gym time with the brothers, taught swim lessons, worked, wrote, ate, read, talked on the phone, and showered (yes, that IS productive. Heh).

If I had been given an extra 100$ right now I’d be boring and save it….(my husband is practical–and it rubs off)!, but if I HAD to buy something, I’d buy some new fitness clothes. I LOVE buying clothes like that, b/c it is my job to teach fitness classes, and I gotta have cute stuff to do it in, ya know?!

I love LOVE Shark Week! I keep bringing it up on my blog but nobody else seems to care as much as me :) I saw one episode last year about a shark that lives under the ice by the North Pole but we don’t know anything about it because no one can get under the ice to do any research. How cool is that?!!

I have been crazy productive today cause I leave for vacation tomorrow! I finished all my studying, got all my work done, etc!

LOVE Shark Week!

I’ve actually been very productive today. I went to the gym this morning, worked on my dissertation that I will be turning in next week (woo!), and did about 5 hours of LSAT studying. Blech.

Not a Shark Week Person — However I did get all set up on Twitter today!! Whoo Hoo! AND I am making a fabulous new recipe — involves cheese, more cheese, gnocchi & panko bread crumbs….can you say yummy? xoxo from Trinidad

I LOVE Shark Week! I saw an e-card that said, “I’d love to see a crossover show with Jersey Shore and Shark Week!” Thought it was awesome and I’d share with you.
I have been very productive by stalking your blog while wasting time at work and reading every post. I have gotten some work done but I guess I should do more…

Reply

I love shark week!! But it’s also mob week on AMC and they’re playing all the Godfather and gangster movies so it’s a big toss up between guns and sharks in our household right now. The decisions are endless.

I’d put that $100 in my bank account to make up for the $$$$ I just spent getting tickets to Vegas hahahaa

When are you going to VEGAS!?!?

Labor Day weekend… should be funnnnn :) college friend reunion! and by college I mean Cal Poly SLO and by SLO I mean San Luis Obispo and by San Luis Obispo I mean: did you convince Billy to take a weekend trip with you to SLO?! <-happiest place on earth*

*debate Oprah in the SLO vs. Disneyland argument

Reply

Haha I’m going to sams and the farmers marketbtomorrow and could easily spend $100, so that’s what I would spend it on. Plus some fun running gear from RunOn

Reply

If someone gave me a $100 to spend, I’d finally buy that ice cream maker I’ve been eyeing so I could make frozen yogurt at home in any flavor I wanted (peanut butter, cake batter, s’mores, etc.).
Then I’d get sorta intellectual and buy some books for my Kindle.

Ahhh I love Shark Week!!! I am fascinated by them…though I DO think I would be scared if I ever came into real contact with one!

Something productive I did today? Hmm…put money into my joint account with my BF so that when we get married someday we don’t have to live in a cardboard box!

I would most likely spend my money on Lululemon. $100 would only get me one item, if I’m lucky! Maybe I would buy a sports bra so that I would have money left over and then go out for some fro-yo. A big one that costs $10! With tons of toppings! :D

SHARK WEEK :D haha! sorry that is a huge inside joke with the other lifguards I work with! But I love it! I watch it any time I can!!

I accepted a job offer at a place that looks awesome. After months of unemployment I am finally going to be working. And in a place that encourages healthy living.

Reply

AHHH CONGRATS TARA….that makes my day!!! You are going to be PERFECT working at a place that encourages healthy living!

THANKS!!! Your excitement and cheer is almost as big as mine!! I started jumping up and down in excitement in the apartment as soon as I hung up the phone. The boyfriend just looked at me like he didn;t know who I was anymore!!!

Reply

You’re too funny. I started my day off on a very unproductive note, but I got better during the course of the day. I volunteered at the Vegan Cafe!

Reply

I would spend the $100 on a new camera, because mine has died and gone to camera-heaven. So I am currently borrowing my MIL’s camera. :(

And no, I don’t watch Shark Week. I have much more important things to watch, like “The Bachelorette” and “Big Brother.” You know … the educational shows. ;)

Reply

Hoorah for monster salads! I don’t watch shark week because we don’t have ANY channels but I DO watch nature documentaries about lots of scary animals, including sharks. Does that count?

My $100 giftcard would be spent stuffing my face at Max Brenner’s Chocolate Factory and binge-buying $1 books from Strand (they’re coveniently located across the street from one another)!

Today’s productiveness was finishing choreography for our show with all but one of my classes!

Reply

Productive? Hmm…work today was productive, I guess!

With $100, I would buy some cute running stuff, new shoes, end up WAY over my limit, use my credit card, and then drown my sorrows in fro-yo!
:)

Love the conversation!! :D ‘full of nutrients & happiness’- lol!! You are too funny!
& I LOVE shark week too!! I’m always hooked- but it freaks me out & I never want to go in the ocean ever again- haha!

Reply

Loving Shark Week!! All of those stories scare the hell out of me, though! I know that the odds of getting attacked are very slim, but it’s still scary!

Reply

ahh, I thought I was th only one who was watching shark week! we’ve been hooked and yes, i won’t swim in the deep end now. haha.

I just have to tell you….We have a restaurant here in Delaware called California tortilla and my 6yr old and 3 yr old love it!! Today if you went in and said “Shark” you got a FREE taco!!!

Reply

WHAT!!!! I am hopping on a plane to go to that restaurant for free taco’s!!

Reply

I managed to clean out our store room in our small apartment, man it was dusty but proud I did it when I finished!!
I am loving the idea of putting a tortilla underneath a salad, way to add in some extra carbs :) Ever since I watched that movie with the professional surfer Bethany who gets her arm bit off by a shark, I have been terrified of them. You should watch the movie though, it is really good. She realizes that there is more to life then just surfing.

hahahahahahahahah! What a cool BIL :)

I try to stay away from shark week. Not gonna lie, it scares me! Plus, it would scare my children too, and we wouldn’t go to the beach. Ever. And I like going to the beach! Yeah, bad chain reaction.
I would spend $100 on….probably my entry for the St. Pete half in October.
And I went to spin and did back and bi’s at the gyn. Pretty productive.

Reply

My productivity was limited to driving down to the beach to try out a new frozen yogurt shop..Red Cup Yogurt. I wish I was lying, but I woke up with a migrane and froyo was the only thing that didn’t want to make me die (I had the lime and vanilla mixed flavor, and a side of cake batter).
If I had 100 dollars, I’d go buy a ton of herb, tomato, and pepper plants. And then an orange sapling. I need to take advantage of this California weather!

Reply

Janae! I am totally lacking in productivity too! I just wanted to tell you though that I am going to the visitors center at the Temple today for the first time and i’m sooo excited! I needed to share!

Reply

AHHHHHH AWESOME!!! Will you pretty please email me tomorrow and let me know what you think!!!

Boys are so funny that way. How is it that my boyfriend can eat an ENTIRE BOX of Kraft Mac & Cheese, but can’t finish the bowl of oatmeal I made him, or a large salad? Come on, men!

Reply

The one productive thing I have done today….uhhmmmm…….I……..I know! I walked the dog. :P There! I did do something useful with my time. lol

If I had a $100 to spend on anything, I would go load up on Sunflower Seed Butter, Peanut Butter, FRUIT, and fitness magazines (oh and shrimp because I love me some shrimp (I have the best gramar :P ))

Reply

hahahahah i loveeee billy’s faces they are hilarious. and really tho he is changing ethnicities!
i loveeeeeeeeee SHARK WEEK! i am scared to death of em but learning about them makes me a bit less scared?
100 bucks= new shoes right now

Reply

Sharks are cool, as long as they don’t bite me. :)

Today has been quite productive! Worked out, taught Zumba, three loads of laundry, changed the sheets, cleaned dishes, and made dinner. *gold star*

I’d probably head to Nashville and go to TJ’s to stock up!!!

Shark Week is a holiday around my house. This year we had t-shirts and shark treats every night. I LOVE it in the geekiest way.
$100 – a ginornous ice cube for my community pool so it doesn’t feel like I’m swimming in bath water. Have I mentioned it’s hot in Texas?
Or a pair of crocheted Toms.
I have done nothing productive today – unless you count washing my hair and shaving my legs.

Reply

Janae!!! I’ve missed reading your blog!! You are too funny, and that salad looks absolutely gobblicious! (totally made that word up on the spot!) ;)

Reply

SHARK WEEK OOH HA HA!! Umm love you, we are the best salad makers EVERRRR we need to have a salad-off!!!

Reply

No to Shark Week, I’m just not into it. Something productive..hmm. I watched children and they are still alive and well, is that good enough? If there was a TJ’s near me I’d do the same thing!

Reply

SHARK WEEK! i love it so much. just wrote a post on it! it made me look at all my BYUH pics and really consider how many black mail pictures you must have of me. i love you and your yummy salads, although i don’t htink i’ve acquired the broccoli taste enough to include it in everyyything like you do. :)

Funny…my Mum and I were just talking yesterday about the movie Jaws, and sharks, and the qualifying for the 2012 open water swimming…yeah, it was a strange conversation. Point is, I don’t find sharks frightening, I find them quite majestic and beautiful. Though faced with one alone in the ocean I might change my mind.

Reply

Sharks have never interested me too much but they always have scared me :-)

Yesterday, I went to work. That was productive. I didn’t necessarily want to be there, but hey at least I made it.

Yeah, if I was handed a $100 debit card, I’d pretty much do the exact same thing you’d do with it. I might hit up Fairway, the new hot grocery store by me. But, I feel like I’d get more bang for my buck at TJ’s!

Reply

Hahaha! Yeah, Billy totally needs a bit of colour ;-)
Oooh, sharks are sooo scary but also so fascinating. I am very afraid of them though…I always get so nervous snorkelling or swimming out at sea, and my boyfriend freedives in places with sharks so that makes me scared too! But shark week is so interesting, I always used to watch it as a kid…me and my brother were obsessed, lol!
Mmm…your salad looks awesome! So big and fresh and packed full of goodness. how yum! :-) Hmm…what is something productive that I have done today? I’m trying to sort out my Executive PA course, by which I mean transferring to a different study centre. So I’ve been doing that. And I worked out and did the ironing. Woo hoo!

I would put that $100 right towards sky diving! I want to do it so bad, but I also don’t want to spend $300. Dilemma!

Your salad making skills never cease to amaze me.

Reply

Your salads always do look delicious. I find that I burn out on salads very quickly, but it’s probably because mine lack variety. I need lessons from you on proper salad making!

Confession – I’ve never watched a single second of shark week. I just can’t bring myself to do it. I don’t get what’s so great about a bunch of shark shows. Hmm…maybe next year I’ll give it a try!

Reply

shark weeeeeeeeeeeeeek is amazing. yea, this is one of my fave weeks of the year. Ahhh TJ’s would be a great place to go crazy with $100!!!!

Reply

Oooh $100 free dollars. Hmmm… I desperately NEED new clothes – like REGULAR clothes. I just got a ton of new run gear but I have nothing cute to wear when I am NOT running. That’s a problem.

I’m not really afraid of sharks either. A lot of people around here don’t surf becuase they’re afraid of sharks but it never bothers me.

Reply

I want to watch Shark Week! I haven’t seen it yet!

If I had 100 bucks I would definitely buy some new running shoes!

Reply

Productive? Umm…Not much. I’m having one of those not in the mood to work days – that’s why I’m reading blogs at 3 in the afternoon!

Sharks are cool – I grew up at the ocean, so a fear of them never even crossed my mind!

If I had $100 free right now I’d buy more running clothes so I could wash laundry less often.

Reply

is reading your blog considered productive?? if so then i’m good to go :)

Reply

Shark week is the best! Did you know you are more likely to die from a coconut than a shark? I learned that today. I will continue eating coconuts and watching sharks with an intense passion.
