My last day of vacation to-dos.

What?  Your main priority of to-do’s the day before you leave California isn’t to go to Trader Joes and stock up on salad dressing, pretzels and chocolate?  I am not the weird one.

PS I expect those dressings to last maybe two months….I eat a lot of salad.

Second randomness of the day…..Billy’s G-ma cuts her watermelons like this:

IMG 0641

I have never seen this method of watermelon cutting but I really dig it because it does not waste any of the good stuff.

And the final randomness of my Saturday involved going to the local running store to of course talk about running for an hour with their employees.

They put me on this foot machine thingee and I found out I have high arches, hmmmm.

And now off for some Yogurtland of course and ribs for dinner.

It is going to be a good night:)

———————————————————

Have you ever had your feet analyzed….do you need stability shoes, inserts or anything?

What are you having for dinner tonight?

-We are having a little party with ribs, potatoes, watermelon and cake!

What was on your Saturday to-do?

I love that watermelon method! Genius! I had my feet analysed. I have high arches too! I don’t wear insoles but the guy in the shop had me running on a treadmill for the best part of an hour to find me the perfect pair of new trainers. An hour well spent! I made a random cous cous dish for dinner….with rainbow cauliflower, terragon, dill, lemon, garlic and cashews! Random but I saw it on “This Morning’s Kitchen” this morning! I actually cooked fish too – for Phil – my first time!

How she cut the watermelon was neat!! But, I’m not very graceful and I’d be afraid of cutting myself on accident!
Dinner tonight was breaded pork chops with peas :D

I get my feet analyzed every couple of years or so because I discovered that they can change! Crazy I know. And of course one of my priorities would be to stock up on as many goodies possible from TJ’s. I bet your in-laws will send you care packages of salad dressing and pretzels now!! Safe travels.

Dinner tonight was blueberry pancakes for the hubs and leftover chicken spinach spaghetti for me. We were on two different wave lengths tonight can ya tell? Todays to do list was super exciting… mow yard, spray for bugs (bugs inside = not cool!!), sweep front porch… jealous yet? :)

Dinner tonight was blueberry pancakes for the hubby and leftover chicken spinach spaghetti for me. Random but it worked! Todays super exciting to do list: mow yard, spray for bugs (bugs inside = not cool!), sweep front porch, Home Depot errands…. I will stop now as I am sure you are starting to get jealous :)

My to do = get outside for a run!

I’ve never had my feet analyzed, but I don’t think it would be a bad idea!

Enjoy your rips and yogurt land :)

That watermelon method is genius. However, I am known for being klutzy so I think I’ll skip it. My hand might come off along with the rind. I haven’t had my feet analyzed but when I went to running camp in high school, they videotaped us running and I was told I overpronate. So now I wear those fabulously clunky stability sneakers. I should probably get analyzed again since that was like 12 years ago!

Dinner tonight is a bbq with hamburgers, salad, and some tiramisu for dessert. My Saturday to-do list involved shopping and swimming. I’m on vacation in California (I’m from Massachusetts) so my to-do lists have been a bit skimpy. :)

Interesting watermelon cutting method! But very smart.

I’ve had my feet and stride analyzed a couple of different times in running stores. I over-pronate a bit so I run best in mild stability shoes.

Today’s to-do list included: a few hours of work, grocery shopping, a run, and a nice big homemade meal. Turkey burgers, sweet potato and regular potato oven fries, corn on the cob, and mixed veggies. And ice cream for dessert, of course!

I’ve never seen anyone cut a melon like that beofre either! How interesting! And I would be so so sad if I were going home from two months in Cali. I hope those dressings last you a while!!

I am so jealous of all of your TJ’s stuff!

Tonight for dinner my dad made smoked salmon, sun dried tomato crusted green beans, crispy curry potatoes, tomato and basil topped bread slices, and a chocolate torte cake for dessert. YUM.

I LOVE TRADER JOES and was just there today too! My gosh, we really are meant to be related! AND I am going to cafe rio for the first time tonight! Wheee! Have a great night!

His grandma must be really talented because I feel like I would hurt myself cutting a watermelon that way!!
I was put on one of those foot things when I got new running shoes and they said I’m mostly balanced but may want an insert. I passed but I thought that thing was super cool!

Holy salad dressing! Too funny.

Cool foot analyzer. I’ve had my gait analyzed but never that. Although I doubt I need it — one glance at my feet and it’s 10000% evident that they are FLAT!

My boyfriend and I walked an hour to get to trader joe’s on the other end of the city (we live in Chicago) just to buy 10 spicy peanut vinaigrette salad dressings! Its safe to say I am pretty addicted. The cashier asked us what the heck we were going to do with all of that dressing and my boyfriend looked at her and said she eats a lot of salad…that was two days ago and I have already polished off 1 bottle! salad + TJ’s dressing is the best thing, ever. My Sunday plans are running in the Rock and Roll Chicago Half marathon, so excited! I love your blog btw. Have a great night!

That looks cool! I’ve gotten my stride analyzed at a running store but nothing high-tech like that. I have little to no arch so I use inserts :)

Reply

Do they not have Trader Joe’s in Utah?!?!?!

I have flat feet and I over-pronate- not good at all. Oh, and I have an extra bone in my right ankle that swells up after long runs. My feet hate running but I don’t let them stop me :)

Reply

how fun! I want to stand on that machine! I wear stability shoes and they are great for my feet.

I want a TJ’s so that I can buy all of those goodies! Enjoy your party

i work at a running store, but we don’t have a groovy device like that! i’m jealous! that is so fun that you were there for an hour. i love chatting running with our customers! would love to know what shoes they recommended for your high arches (yes, i seriously DO love talking shoes!) i’m a neutral-with-high-arches girl, myself!

Reply

I might try to steal all your TJs goodies… Just a warning for you. Safe trip back!!

Reply

I tried rice noodles for the first time tonight fo dinner, and ended up having watermelon too :) nice cutting method btw…very interesting!

Reply

Hey! I have really high arches too. What did they say to do for that? I wear a neutral shoe b I land on the outsides of my feet! Do you?

Reply

have you ever read born to run? the writer posits that high arches are natural and that we shouldn’t necessarily aim to correct them. I’ve done the treadmill analyzing test things before…I’m not sure what is right, but it is definitely an interesting thing to think about!

Reply

What kind of sneaker did they reccommend?

I love your blog, you are too cute! I also have high arches and I’ve been told I mildly overpronate. I have had my gait analyzed 3 different times at 3 different places and every time they have recommend Asics Gel Kayano, so I’ve been wearing them for 7+ years. Last time the guy told me there isn’t a better shoe out there, so no one would ever recommend anything else! Too bad they’re so expensive! When I got back into running after my 2nd child I did too much too soon and had shin splints, foot pain etc and I went to see a podiatrist and he recommended the superfeet inserts. I don’t know if I need them, but I am too afraid to stop as I haven’t had any issues since. What shoes did they recommend for you?

Reply

I totally want to have my feet analyzed!! I’m waiting to get some sort of pro advice before I get new kicks. I have blister issues! lol

Reply

That’s how I cut a pineapple but I never thought to do that with watermelon! My feet are the exact opposite of yours. I think I am part platypus or something my feet are so flat. I have orthodics to compensate while running otherwise I end up with some serious foot pain. My toes curl a bit to compensate for the lack of arch in my foot and my feet look alien because of it. Lovely, I know.

Thanks!!

My husband had his feet analyzed on one of those, the doctor had told him he had flat feet but turns out he actually has high arches. Funny! I over-pronate so I need stability shoes, Brooks Adrenaline!

Reply

My local running store has a foot analyzing thingie. It’s pretty neat! I have super high arches and run really weird apparently so I need a stability shoe AND inserts!

Is Billy’s Grandma Mexican? That’s how our cook here in Mexico cuts watermelon. Makes SO much more sense.

I should have stocked up on Trader Joes goods before leaving for Florida..definitely regretting it now because I’ve received no care packages from home. :( Definitely an interesting watermelon cutting trick..I’m sure it’d end up on the floor if I tried that. :)

Yum! I am eating watermelon as I write this comment, yum :) I need to try the grandma’s method! Wow– fancy!

My 20 miler was fantastic today!! My legs felt so fresh!

Are you still running in pretty low profile shoes?

Reply

I’m telling you… this bra is awesome. I am 32D in it but 34D in regular bras. I used to need 2 different sports bras when running. With this one, one is all I need. Just fantastic!

And I have super high arches that don’t cave in. That means rigid feet that don’t absorb a lot of impact. No stability stuff for me… just cushioning, neutral shoes. I am loving my Saucony ProGrid 3 something or others.

My “buy” list to take to Hood to Coast includes a trip to TJ’s, too :P Do you like dark chocolate? If you do, you ought to try the dark chocolate with caramel inside and some salt business going on… heaven. I was skeptical at first… sounded so pretentious. But wow…

Have a safe journey home!

I must say I have never had my feet analyzed! That is incredible!!

Tonight we had fried green tomatoes, Talapia, Baked Potato, Salad, Sourdough bread and FUDGE!! Amazing!!

My Saturday to do was attend a bridal shower for my cousin, and take trax with my sweet daughter and my hubby to Gardener Village!! So fun!!

I had my feet analysed last time. They are probably the only balanced part of me! Unfortunately they gave me the wrong size and I ended up with bursitis on one of my heels :(
I agree with your stocking up at Trader Joes! When you find your favourites you gotta make sure that you are well supplied.
I can’t wait to move from Australia to LA so that I can live at the salad bar in Whole Foods :)

I have never seen anyone cut watermelon like that – I’d be scared it would slide – but I like her style!
My feet were analyzed and I have high arches too.
My dinner was too bitty to call a meal, but was washed down with red wine, and my to do yesterday was to write, and that I did!

Reply

oh I would do the same for sure! stock up. I might even get billys grandma to teach me how to do that! WOW! so resourceful.

I used to live in a place where there was no Target (GASP!) I know it was like being no where civilization…anyhoo, when I would go on vacation I would go on the Targetsprees! It was awesome! And there are still things that I get when I am on vacation and stock up on that I can’t get at home.

Reply

I’ve had my gait analyzed and I need stability shoes because I overpronate. No surprise there, I’ve always worn them! Good to have a second opinion confirm it though.
I would definitely be stocking up, that is a crazy amount of dressing, haha!!

I tried to go to TJs the last day we were in California (last Monday) and the location near our hotel didn’t open until 11! I wasn’t really expecting a grocery store to open so late during the week!!!

Needless to say, I didn’t get to go. Oh well, i’ll stick with my Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Central Market I guess

Reply

The local running store has one of those machines and fit the sneakers to your foot- too cool! Even cooler, they have a treadmill hooked up with a camera that’s pointed at your feet to watch you run in the different styles of shoes they bring out for you to try on… A sure fit!

Reply

I want to get my feet checked on one of those! So cool.

Also, that’s the craziest way to cut watermelon ever.

Reply

I have high arches too! I had specialty orthodics made because they said my high arches were throwing off my gate so much that that could have been a contributor to my two acl tears…
