How to celebrate, hungryrunnerboy style.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BILLY’S BDAY WISHES….you made his day!! We read them together and could not stop smiling and laughing…….especially when Jen said……

Um girl, you know me and Billy’s relationship very well.

Screen Shot 2011 07 07 at 8 38 49 PM

Billy had two birthday wishes:

1. I could only sing happy birthday to him once (on average I usually sing it 13 times).

2. We couldn’t go to Yogurtland.  I couldn’t be mad at him yesterday because of his birthday and all but you better believe he is going to get a lecture from me today.

—————————————————————————–

Billy chose FLAME BROILER for lunch.  This would be a brown rice, chicken and veggie bowl with extra green onions.

IMG 7369

I took a picture of my bad decision to wear (or even buy because of my spilling history) white shorts while eating this meal and I was being SO CAREFUL to not spill anything.

IMG 7370

I bet you can guess what happened.   Red hot sauce comes out of white shorts in the wash right?  Any special tricks you use to remove stains?

The sauce is heavenly, it is SO hot and I don’t normally love crazy hot things but the flavor of it is worth sacrificing not having feeling from my nose to my chin for three hours.  I may have dumped 6 of those cups of sauce on.  I like my sauce to rice ration to be 1:1.   PS eating with chopsticks is so much fun.

IMG 7371

Just throwing this picture in because it makes me extra happy.  Charlie comes everywhere with us.

IMG 7375

After lounging around for a few hours I got busy making Billy’s requested dinner.  Probably the healthiest thing out there.  Chicken and cream cheese stuffed into croissant rolls.  I can’t stand and roll at the same time, that takes too much thinking.

IMG 7382

I don’t know if he forgot it was his birthday and not mine but he requested broccoli and salad too…..he must want something from me.  Fine honey, I will stop losing my debit card every other week.

IMG 7385

Doesn’t everyone wrap their man’s present in a zebra print bag?  Charlie kept trying to grab the tissue paper out and unwrap all of his other presents.

IMG 7391

The grand finale…….get ready for this people.  I know you have all been in suspense to see what he wanted for dessert…….

IMG 7393

Fried Ice Cream.  He says that since he is 3/8ths Mexican that he has to have at least one Mexican food on his birthday.  Good thing I worked at a Mexican restaurant for two years and remembered how to make them.  To get a mental picture of mine just imagine the same ball of fried goodness with about 48 times more chocolate sauce.

———————————————————————————–

Have you ever had fried ice cream?  Did you like it?

What do you usually request for your birthday dinner?

-Lasagna or salmon…..this last year I got both:)

What’s your workout today?

-Spin and pump…..I am going to try a minute on the treadmill and see how the shins are feeling…..it has been 1.5 weeks of no running,  lots of icing and lots of freaking out.

I have had fried ice cream and was so scared to try it at first and then LOVED it!! I’m impressed you can make it from scratch?! I want that recipe! :)

Dawn dish soap is a miracle worker for stains.

I can’t believe that I’ve never had fried ice cream…what’s wrong with me?!?!

Just finished up 8 hot, humid, schweaty miles. HAPPY FRIDAY! :)

I have never had fried ice cream! What is a matter with me?!
We usually go out for birthday supper and my only request is that I get a dessert all to myself ;)
I am hoping to go to a class called Yoga in the Park if it doesn’t rain – if it does, plan b is a weight session at home.

What a great birthday and how nice of Billy to request broccoli ;-)

I have never made Fried Ice Cream, but I have eaten the version in a pint. How on earth do you make it??

BDay Dinner: Mexican food – I like a fiesta ;-)

Workout: 50 minutes on stairstepper and weiiiiights – got to get buff!

Oh my- you are an AWESOME fried ice cream maker!! I tried to make it one time, but it turned out WAY too oily- oops! (don’t worry, we picked the outside off & ate the ice cream..I know you would be devasted if we threw the ice cream away :D )
& I’m dying to know what you got Billy for his present!! :)
Charlie is so cute!! Billy’s expression is the best in that picture- lol!
Happy Friday!!!

Awesome! Good job on the birthday dinner, you look hard core.

First time I ever had fried ice cream was actually at a sushi place!

But yes, what is the secret to making it? I’m slightly terrified to ‘fry’ anything as I am a huge klutz and cooking with super hot oil sounds like a recipe for disaster!!!

Reply

Aww, you are both SO adorable!!!!!!!!! :) I love hearing/reading about relationships such as yours. You 2 seem so very happy. And yes, I have had fried ice cream. I’d describe it as heaven on a plate, along with brownies, and anything with peanut butter. LOL. I want to know what you got for Billy!!!
Great job on giving Billy a nice birthday! :) Have a beautiful day Janae!

Ditto on wanting the recipe for fried ice cream.

And I’m a vegetarian, but heartily approve of cream cheese (or anything, really) in crescent rolls. I have a recipe for roasted red pepper spread that is essentially roasted red peppers, cream cheese, garlic and onion. I think I may sub that out for your chicken mix! Yum… :-)

Looks like he had a great day!!

I don’t wear white for the same reason. I am always going to spill soemthing if I wear anything other then black for that matter.

For my birthday I usually want Mexican food. Next year I am going to change it up….or not. You can’t ever go wrong with Mexican can you???

Reply

No exercise for me today, I need a rest day! I’ve been doing way too much this past week and my muscles are now crying. (even though I kinda want to run!!) Tomorrow!

You should post how to make your fried ice cream! I haven’t had it in sooo long it would be good!

Fried ice cream is AMAZING!!!

B’day dinner request? Tucano’s… and Yogurtland for dessert.

Ran 4 miles and did 100 crunches. Lol. Abs of steel baby!!!

My poor tastebuds have never experienced the joy balled into fried ice cream. :( I am a poor soul, I know. Perhaps we could one day lure the recipe from you with a certain amount of giftcards to a certain frozen dairy place???? :)

Reply

Wow, girl, I’m very impressed with your kitchen skills… I can’t believe you actually made fried ice cream!!

And yes, back when Chi-chi’s was popular (before they got in trouble for hepatitis in the green onions or something crazy like that), I had fried ice cream many, many times. And it was wonderful. ;)

For my birthday, I usually like to try new restaurants. Two years ago we did a sushi restaurant. Last year Brandon took me to Niagra Falls and Toronto for my birthday. I have no idea what we’ll do this year, but I have a feeling it won’t be quite that exciting. ;)

Reply

I LOVE LOVE LOVE fried ice cream-but only get it usually once a year. I never request a birthday dinner (but my husband always takes me out to try a new restaurant) I only ask for a homemade birthday cake!

Workout was a 5 mile run in the rain!

Did I miss something…..what did you get Billy for his birthday??

Reply

Darn it! I missed wishing Billy Bob Boy a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Reply

I haven’t had fried ice cream in so long but I love it :)

My birthday dinners are usually some sort of pasta or seafood (or both) dish. Yum, now I want lobster mac and cheese…

I have no workout today because my stomach doesn’t like me at the moment. But I will be waiting tables from 6-1:30 later and I think 7.5 hours of walking is a good enough workout for today :)

Reply

I’ve never, ever had fried ice cream, but now I want some. :D
Usually, I ask to go to my favorite, nice pizza place where they bring out unlimited pizza and you decide what flavors you want on my birthday! I always get some of the dessert pizzas there…chocolate w/ strawberries and caramel and pineapple w/ condensed milk are my favorites!

Reply

I tried fried ice cream in Mexico and it was craaazy! What a crazy combo! We went out for dinner on mine and then also on the hubby’s birthday, too, but I’m so making him cook me dinner next year. That’s a way better idea. I might even buy him an apron (secretly for me) so I can enjoy it even more. Too bad I have to wait until next May to witness this!

Looks like he had a fab birthday. I think you may be a better wife than I – the husband wanted to go golfing on his bday (and wanted me to come), and I kinda complained a bit. Bad wife, right?!?!

Reply

Yes, I’ve had fried ice cream! YUM!!!! Today I’ll be in my trainer for 3 hours.. sigh!

Reply

Two words: Tide pen.

My birthday dinner request is pierogi. My reception dinner request was pierogi. Trend? (If you haven’t had them, you must! Best food on earth!) Followed by banana cream pie, of course!

Reply

Oh my gosh, that picture of you two is adorable! Looks like y’all had a wonderful day celebrating!

Can I please concur that you MUST do a post on how to make fried ice cream? I haven’t had it since I was about 12, and that is just too long.

I never request a special meal for my birthday, but I do request to be surrounded by friends every single second of the day.

Reply

I would LOVE a recipe post for fried ice cream! I had it once as a child and it was pretty much a perfect memory for me. I have not ordered it since then. I’m scared it will pale in comparison!

It sounds like you had a fabulous day. I like to grant myself a full birthday weekend whenever possible. That way it just goes on and on. :) Luckily, my sweet husband plays along with me.

Reply

I love fried ice-cream! I haven’t had it in so long but now I’m craving it! :)

I always carry a Tide-to-Go pen in my purse. It works wonders, I got strawberry juice out of khaki shorts like it was nothing!

Reply

I went to Menchies for the first time ever last night and it was the most amazing thing ever. I am totally in love. (this comment has nothing to do with this post but I needed to tell you that in more than 140 characters )

Reply

Wait? You MADE the fried ice cream? How!?

Reply

“Shout” for set-in stains usually works pretty well. You can spray and leave it on for as long as is needed, then throw them in the wash and pray that it worked. 9 times out of 10 it does.

I love fried ice cream! Yours looks delicious – so sweet of you to do that :)

Reply

that fried ice cream and those croissant chicken things look so good. Recipes please!!!!

Reply

Looks like a great day of birthday eats! Well played Billy. Happy belated birthday to him since I didn’t get to send him a wish yesterday. You two are the cutest! :)

P.S. For stains, I swear by oxi-clean. It gets the toughest of stains out.

Reply

Aww looks like you and Billy (and Charlie) had so much fun girl!

We are bbq-ing a day early with friends for mine tonight. Salmon is my choice I think! I will see when I get to the grocery store. I may have one of everything that crosses my path!

Oh and since the bbq is at my house, cleaning will be my workout for the day! hah!

Reply

Loved his birthday post, and he has the best birthday month, just like me! Funny, I’ll be requesting the same birthday dinner on Sunday from my Mommy cause I’m home in Oregon! Chicken rolls are my favorite. I love that is what he requested. I will not be requesting fried ice cream though. I’m going with strawberry shortcake, with vanilla DQ ice cream. For my workout I will be doing a pregnant lady walk and some prenatal yoga, I’m really good at it, no big deal! Love you

Reply

Good luck with the shins! I hope you get back to running soon!

I used to request we go out to an Italian restaurant for my birthday but since I am gluten free and the italians haven’t joined on that bandwagon yet, I make my husband cook me bacon and eggs, a GF cake, and basically anything else I want. The restaurants are punishing him not me! LOL

Reply

shout advanced will take virtually anything out. leave it on OVERNIGHT and wash in oxyclean.

Reply

I usually go to sushi for my birthday dinner. And I think Japanese restaurants are the only places I’ve had fried ice cream..

Taking a day off from running (ran 5 straight days, even though I know better), but I do have an indoor soccer game tonight. I don’t count soccer as running, I like to consider it cross training. :)

Reply

I love fried ice cream! It was nice of Billy to have broccoli for you ;)

Reply

Um. I freaking love green onions. Have you ever eaten them off the stalk? I have.

Fried ice cream?! I have always been so scared of such a thing buttt I’m glad he enjoyed it ;)

Reply

Looks like a great birthday for Billy! I think salmon would be on my birthday menu, too! Or maybe something with sweet potato fries, and avocado…and refried beans. Somehow I’d like to incorporate all my favorite foods. :)

Reply

Thanks for sharing Billy’s birthday celebration with us! He is adorable, as are you :). I’ve had fried ice cream once and it was delicious. For my b-day I like to go out to dinner, usually Thai food, specifically red curry with tofu and veggies, yum! My workout today is a long swim in an outdoor, 50 meter pool – yee haw! followed by a 2 hour bike ride, both with a darling friend! I’m so sorry about your shin splints and cannot blame you for feeling frustrated about now being able to run again, especially after just getting your running groove back!! I’m saying prayers for your fast healing and happy running ASAP.

Reply

Omg fried ice cream? I bet that’s delish! I’ve had a fried snickers and that was awesome :). The only thing I request for my bday is my favorite cake!

Reply

WOW! I have never tried fried ice cream but it looks soooo delicious! I’ve tried fried banana ice cream where the just batter a banana and fry it and place it on top of cold ice cream. It is delicioussss. But battered ice cream?!?!? That is beyond unreal.

I don’t care about the meal part of my dinner. I just always want carrot cake. There is a specialty vegan bakery here that makes the best cakes ever and you can’t even tell they’re vegan so everyone loves them!

Today’s workout: 30 minutes elliptical, 30 minutes stairmill, 30 minutes treadmill!

Reply

I like my food as hot and spicy as possible, so that I am sweating up a storm and coughing all over the place. I am a huge embarrassment to my bf, and he always says, “I can’t take you anywhere.”

Reply

Okay so I think white clothing is a food and beverage magnet! I have a hard time wearing white the whole day without getting something on it! Grr. However, Shout for set in stains WORKS! A couple other readers suggested it too. Miracle!

My workout today was an hour outdoor run by the lake…and I walked my pup for about 30 mins. Quite nice and super sweaty :)

For my bday I almost always request seafood for my meal. I love just about all seafood and I like trying new recipes.

Never tried fried ice cream but the fiance loves it. Yours looks FANTASTIC!

Reply

Friday’s are usually my longer run days – so I am going for 7-8 miles today. Unfortunately, I think I am going to do these miles on the TM because it’s so warm here!!

I didn’t know it was possible to fry ice cream?! Crazy!

Reply

Happy belated birthday, Billy!! Looks like you had a good time!!! I am taking today off from working out but I did 11 miles on the TM yesterday!!!! For my birthday I either want salmon or mexican!!

Reply

oh wow, I have never had fried ice cream before….that is amazing that you made it! Looks like a great day was had!

Reply

Looks like a great time!

Good luck running!!! I hope all of the rest time paid off. I rested while on vacation and my calves are feeling much better. I’m back running a couple miles without wanting to amputate my legs!!!

Reply

Awesome! So glad you guys had such an amazing day and celebrated in style, that’s soooo cool :-)
Dude, fried ice cream?! That is proper hardcore, lol! I don’t even know how that would work?! Doesn’t it melt? The physics and science of it makes my blonde brain very confused. :-P
My workout today was yoga! I practiced for an hour and it was awesome, but my body is sore now, lol! Tough class ;-) You inspire me to take 2 classes in a row, although the combination of spin and pump sounds terrifyingly intense…you rock, girl! :-D
My birthday dinner is ALWAYS salmon…favouritest food in the world, especially to eat out. Yum yum in my tum. And now that I have written out that childish sentence I will leave and get back to my grown up job, lol! :-)
Laters missy (and Mr)! <3 xyx

Happy Birthday Billy!!!

I am now salivating at fried ice cream!!

Reply

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOOOO BILLLY! I missed yesterday’s post because I was too busy eating froyo with Katelyn. That’s allowed, right? Since it was froyo and all? Just say yes. I know you will anyway.

On myyy birthday I had some awesome sushi. And annihilated every single bite.

And I had the hardest workout class ever yesterday and I’m now waddling. That’ll make for a real interesting long run day tomorrow, huh?

Reply

I feel your pain when it comes to stains. I even wore an apron once so I wouldn’t get sauce on my white shirt, and I still ended up with a stain. Maybe I need to incorporate a permanent bib into my outfits.

I’ve had the same birthday dinner since I was 4: my mom’s homemade rice pilaf, artichokes, salmon (newer addition), and fresh baked bread. I guess I’m not very creative.

Workout yesterday: spin class! I think I may have died. Today: a bike ride and yoga :-)

Reply

My hubby LOOOOVES fried ice cream. I think if I learned how to make it he would probably end up dead in a food coma within a week.

I hope your shins start feeling better!!

FRIED ICE CREAM = BEST thing everrrrrrrrrrrr. jealous girl right here. sounds like Billy’s bday was fantastic! happy belated birthday to him :)

hope those shins are feeling better!

Reply

I’ve never tried fried ice cream – but I think I may need to. Yummo!

I always used to ask for a taco birthday dinner when I was a kid. But these days, friends always take me for supper and I choose sushi or seafood. With a girly pink drink on the side, of course ;)

Awww you guys are the CUTEST couple! Glad to hear he had a great day!

OMG awesome! You must share that fried ice cream recipe!! Please…!!! My boyfriend would love that. Have a great workout. I slept through pump this morning… shoot!

Zebra bag is better than no wrapping paper!

What a great day and I love that Charlie is included in the adventures!! Get yoru spin and pump on girl! I finally tried spin this week and thought of you! I do hope those shin splints are healing. Pain in the rear.

Does Billy get a birthday week like you? If so, Happy Week-O-Birth Billy!

Reply

LOVE friend icecream! Totally normal to fry sugar right? Love it and um so awesome that you know how to make it. I wouldn’t have the first clue.

Good luck with the running today girl. I am definitely thinking about you and hoping those shins cooperate.

Reply

Please share you fried ice cream secrets with us! You are such a master chef, my gosh girly! I had Thai food for my birthday, and yogurtland for dessert (big huge cup style!!!) I keep a Tide-to-go pen in my purse, I spill ALL the time, and use Shout on it later, let it sit, and it’ll wash right out, Oxiclean works pretty good too.

Reply

Looks like a happy birthday boy!!! I love celebrating my husbands birthday…ALMOST as celebrating my own!

Reply

fried bananas with ice cream are even better! such a good wife. I bet billy was happy. And happy birthday to him from the cotter crew!!!

Reply

I cannot eat fried anything. My stomach cannot handle it anymore. The time I did try fried ice cream it was pretty yucky.
For my b-day I prefer to got out to my FAVE place Oregano’s, which has A-mazing Italian food!!
I have a small window to get the the gym for a run (hopefully 5 miles) and then I get to go PICK UP THE GIRLIES!! They have been away at girl’s camp and I miss their sweet faces more than I can say!

Reply

I’ve never tried fried ice-cream before and I don’t think I ever will! ;) I’d rather have a tub of frozen yoghurt please. On my birthday I usually go out for dinner at some of my my favourite restaurants. I lóve fusion food!
I wasn’t really feeling my workout today. I was soooo tired, but I still got in a good 40-minute cardio and 20-minute strength training workout.

Reply

Also FOAM ROLLING the shins. You should be in a few days to SLOWLY build up on the treadmill again. THEN add in outside running (1 run outside a week- slow and short). You’ll be ok!!

Reply

THANK YOU MARCI!!! I hadn’t even though of foam rolling them!! YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!

Reply

goo gone works miracles on stains! especially greasy saucy stains. chase it with bleach and BOOM magic.

Reply

How do you make fried ice cream?! Oh and SHOUT works wonders on stains :)
