Look What I Can Do

I will fill you in on what Billy has to deal with multiple times everyday now that I am on the road to becoming the best runner that I can be!  I like to show off my mad running and hopping on one leg skills because even a month ago I couldn’t do those things!

If you make fun of my yogurt spill on my shirt and who knows what is all over my pants…..I am blocking you.

It really is crazy how your body heals itself and how just a few months ago it hurt to sit/walk/stand!  After some time off, lots of calcium (thank you Yogurtland) and hours of swimming, I feel like my old self again (don’t worry I won’t overdo my mileage and speed).

It has been a long journey since my first DNF when I knew that something was terribly wrong and when I was finally diagnosed with my stress fractures.  Even though at the time I thought my life as I knew it was over and that I would be bored out of my mind without running, I  have learned so much.

I kind of feel like a different person, I think that is what trials do to us….they force us to grow and become STRONGER!!!

Just in case you are injured, too busy to run or have other reasons why you can’t run right now….don’t worry.  I know that 12 weeks (or whatever length of time that you are not able to run) will FLY BY!! Take the time to develop your OTHER TALENTS, spend time with your family and watch lots of tv.

I can officially say that I am sort of thankful for the femur fractures because in the long run I will be so much smarter about my running and stronger.

I had enough time to make it home for lunch and so I decided to re-create my favorite Wendy’s salad for 1/6th the price.

IMG 6477

I made a few adjustments: I had apples, chicken, cheese, dressing stolen from Wendy’s and some of my homemade taboule.

———————————————————————-

If you are a morning worker-outer, do you eat before or after you workout?  What do you eat (I need some new ideas)?  If you workout later in the day how long do you have to wait after you eat to workout?

-I ALWAYS have to have a banana or a piece of bread before my morning workouts (otherwise I feel and not just look like a zombie) and eat b-fast afterwards.  You do not want to know me if I SKIP BREAKFAST!

If I workout at night I swear I have to wait at least two hours after I eat to workout, especially if I ate fiber (I am sure you all wanted to know that).

How has your body shown you how amazing it is?

-Being able to recover!!

Do you ever run on the grass?

-No, but it is something that I really want to get into…gotta love soft surfaces!

I lurrrve your salads! That is the perfect-sized bowl.
People are always amazed at how I can eat before a morning workout, but it is usually 9-10 hours since I last ate so obviously I need some fuel! I like PB toast with a banana or a oatmeal with PB. Or PB on Graham crackers. (I think I see a trend…)
And I know grass running is good for your body, but I don’t really like it. I prefer pavement pounding :) Your welcome, knees.

Reply

‘Your welcome, knees.’ Girl, you are HILARIOUS!!! I hear you about needing fuel after 9-10 hours!!!

Reply

It depends if it is a quick week day morning gym trip, I usually don’t eat breaky before but on the weekends when I run in the mornings, I always have pb toast before. Some breakfasts I love right now – smmothie bowls, Greek yogurt bowls, pear & pb grilled sandwiches, Fitnessista’s cokoie dough breakfast cereals, meals and moves protein pancakes…who I am kidding I love all breakfasts!

Reply

PEAR & PB GRILLED SANDWICHES…that sounds like HEAVEN!!! I need that right now!! You are brilliant!

Reply

I usually drink a protein shake an hour before my workout in the morning. I use chocolate Shakeology because of all of the great vitamins in it and add some banana and natural peanut butter. No food before a workout= exhaustion. If I workout later in the day I have to wait 2-3 hours after I eat. It depends on what I eat but some things still bother my stomach then. I have been trying to eat lighter. Im also doing kickboxing in which you are constantly jumping rope or bouncing around and I’m sure that’s why it bothers me.

Reply

I am SO HAPPY that your leg is better!!!! Praise God! I know you are so excited! :)

I wish I could work out in the mornings, I usually work out at night after the kids are in bed, but in the morning I do have to have a little something also. Then breakfast #2 when I get home. :)

Last night I ran half on cement and half on the grassy/dirty trail beside the road and it was awesome!

Reply

I work out in the mornings now, although I used to work out in the evenings until a few months ago. I love the change and being able to keep my nights open for whatever comes up!

I usually wake up at 5 and get to the gym by 6:15, which gives me plenty of time to digest breakfast. Favorites include: toast with peanut butter and sliced banana, frozen fruit smoothies with protein powder and granola, ‘protein muffins’ (thank you, Fitnessista!), Greek yogurt, and whole wheat pancakes.

That salad looks Sooooooooooooo yummy. I can eat a lot before I workout. I know…weird right? I usually ALWAYS have a huge bowl of cereal. i am kind of questioning that before the marathon but my body does not know any different.

My body has shown me how amazing it is by getting through crazy training and the stress of school the past few months…I feel bad to have put it through so much but am proud that I (and my body!) made it!! woo hoo!

cant wait to see you tomorrow and for you to meet the fam!!!

I’m doing a 200 mile weekend bike race this weekend, so I’m actually RIGHT NOW trying to figure out what to eat so that I stay energized but not full…tricky tricky! As for my body showing me how amazing it is, well I’m so thankful that, after the set-back of a knee injury while training, I will be able to ride this race over the weekend!!

Reply

I definitely eat before my morning workouts- usually a piece of toast (gluten free) with PB. I used to eat a luna bar or kashi bar before morning workouts but discovering my intolerances to gluten and soy changed my ways.
For the evenings, it depends on what I’m doing and what time, but since I eat at least a million times a day, my afternoon snack usually fuels my evening workout.

As for the soft surfaces, I love running on the “trail” near our house because next to the paved trail is a dirt path that’s smooth enough to not fall (most of the time- I am a klutz afterall) but soft enough to cushion the joints.

Reply

Yay for body healing! When I run in the mornings (most days) I just get up and go, and eat breakfast after. Before races and weekend long runs, I usually have some combo of coffee (always!) and either a banana for short runs, or a big bowl of oatmeal, banana and cinnamon for long race/runs if I have the time to digest. If I run in the afternoon or at night I definitely need a good 2 hours after eating; I cannot run on a full stomach!

Reply

We usually go to the gym around 9 so if I’m running that day I will probably have oatmeal with apple, raisins, almonds and a scoop of almond butter. If I’m lifting I’ll probably have eggs. I usually have the oatmeal before I go out for my long run also!

Reply

I’m stealing that salad idea for my dinner tonight!

I wish I could start getting my lazy butt out of bed in the mornings to work out. Currently, I have been working out immediately after work, so I have dinner after my workouts. If I ate dinner before, I know I’d skip the workout completely!

Reply

Awwww I’m SO happy you’re on the mend!! See you in NY!!!

Love the video! You are so freaking cute Janae. Seriously our bodies rock and it is amazing how mean we are to them sometimes.

I workout in the morning and never eat before a workout. However I do eat before a morning race. weird? My first probably 10 races I didn’t eat anything before though. I used to have major issues with eating and side aches but it has gotten better.

Not a fan of running on the grass but love to play on the grass. woohoo!

Reply

I work out in the morning. I seriously cannot work out on an empty stomach, even if I’m not super hungry in the morning. If I work out on an empty stomach, I just end up having a horrible workout where I am a grump and super hungry the entire time.

I like to eat eggs and gf toast beforehand or gf waffles with fruit. They’re quick, so you can get out the door quick, and they’re not super heavy. I usually just put pb or jam on my waffles, not butter and syrup. I used to have oatmeal before a workout, which was awesome until I figured out gluten and oats were no bueno for me :)

Running on grass is difficult for me unless I’m barefoot. I always feel like I’m going to fall and I don’t have the world’s best ankles to keep me steady!

Reply

Amazing post! I believe we are never given a trial we can’t handle! You are amazing girl! We become so much stronger after enduring our trials! Keep it up pretty lady!
I am amazed at all the things I have learned about myself while not being able to run while recovering from ED! God has given us so many talents and it’s so important to develop ALL of them! While being off exercise I have learned I love to garden, do flowersvfor events, be a Better mom and more! We aren’t defined as just one thing!!
Our bodies are amazing and we are blessed beyond measure to have them! Keep healing girl! Oh and grass running is awesome!M

Reply

Yaaay!!!! So glad you’re healing! :D
I usually have eggs for a pre-workout snack and a smoothie afterwards!

Reply

I currently am on run rest and feel like I am going insane. Arrgghhhhh. Injuries are no fun but I agree that they make us smarter runners!!!

I am a morning workout person. I usually eat G-Fit bites or Nutralite chomps before I workout. I have a sensitive stomach and those things work for me. I have no idea what I am going to do for RNR Vegas!! I am going to have to eat around 1:30 and be done until after the race. If I eat any closer to race time I am sure to frab on the course! Ewwwwwwww!!!

P/S That salad looks AWESOME! I know what I am having for dinner tonight :)

Reply

I’ve never run on grass. It sure would take a HUGE space of grass for a good run, though, right? Who has that much grass near them?

I’d also be afraid to step in dog doo.

Reply

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy to see your lovely face running and hopping around!!

I will always be amazed that my body ran 26.2 miles!?!?!

Reply

hallalujeh!!!! thats some awesome single leg hoping! so proud of you. You are stronger, wiser, and braver for it.

Reply

I always throw down something before I workout in the mornings. Nothing big but a piece of peanut butter toast or a protien shake gets me through until breakfast.
I would love to run on grass but haven’t found a great place to do that.

Reply

I workout in the morn and I like steel cut oats with a scoop of pb and scoop of honey.

Reply

You are too funny with this video. Love it. :)

Reply

I never eat before I workout and seriously have a hard time with after work workouts it makes me feel so ill or like you said,…fiber = bad. If I am seriously hungry, I’ll down a banana as fast as I can so it doesn’t make me sick but I have suuuuuuch a hard time with food in my belly pre-workout.

Post workout? If I don’t eat, watch out! Must.eat.ASAP.

Reply

hahahaha i laughed so hard at that video. hahahaa

Reply

Loved that video! :) I usually don’t eat before my morning runs (since they are between 4 and 4:30 a.m. But, I do eat before my weekend long runs. I usually have toast with pb and some oj about an hour before I leave. And, I ALWAYS have breakfast (cereal and a glass of chocolate milk is the standard fare) after any run. You don’t want to know me, either, if I skip breakfast.

Reply

4 a.m. workouts…you seriously are my hero!! LOVE chocolate milk….I am going to have some now.

Reply

That video made my day!! You are so adorable!!!

Oh I love it! “Look what I can do!” I think it is absolutely amazing that you are strong enough to say that you are grateful for your fractures. Not too many can say that. I’m so impressed with what you’ve learned in the process.
I usually don’t eat before I run in the a.m. but always eat eggs and toast or oatmeal afterwards. I’m so boring. If I run in the afternoon I have to wait at least 2 hours after eating to run too for the same reasons.

Reply

Good to know I am not alone with the whole waiting 2 hours thing. I need to eat more eggs for bfast..thanks for reminding me how delicious they are!

Reply

I have to run on an empty stomach. If I don’t, I get terrible side cramps and burp the whole time. I am so gross! I love running in the morning because I obviously have no food in my system so it’s always when I have my best runs. Plus, even though I am tired when I wake up as soon as I get outside I feel so awake and full of energy. I feel like I go the furthest and the “fastest” right when I wake up.

Reply

That is not gross….we are runners and we all get it (maybe it would be gross to a non runner:) It is amazing how fast we can wake up once we start RUNNING!

Reply

haha great video!!

I never eat breakfast before I do a workout. I will just wait and eat afterwards. I sometimes run in the grass, but I’d rather run on the streets. I think running on the sand is SUPER hard.

Reply

The sand KILLS ME!!! Such a good workout though but I prefer the streets too!

Reply

I usually have the same pre-workout snack you do, and then when I get back (especially in the summer) I suck down a smoothie with lots of fruits, spinach and yogurt!

Reply

I am craving your smoothie now…..minus the spinach ha!

Reply

I love this: I kind of feel like a different person, I think that is what trials do to us….they force us to grow and become STRONGER!!!

You are awesome!! I’ve missed you and it has been way too long because your site is so different now. What happened? Who hooked you up with this awesome layout…so professional.

You’re beautiful girl and such an inspiration!

Reply

GIRL!!! YES, Billy is a technical machine and figured out how to change the site! I am SO proud of your marathon in that CRAZY HEAT and I love that you said that you would never do one again…..but 20 minutes later planning your next one…I do the EXACT SAME THING!

Reply

Thanks for the encouraging post Janae! I still need to go to the doctor so I can figure out what my injury is…but right now between the heat and my foot, running is not happening. Good to know that one day I’ll get it back and I love your attitude!

If I work out early, I don’t eat before but if it’s a bit later, I’ll usually have a big bowl of oatmeal! Or Overnight Oats in a Jar

Reply

I usually work out in the afternoons, and I have to wait about 2-3 hours after eating before I can exercise, otherwise I just feel off. For morning runs, I can NOT eat breakfast before working out, that would make me vom! But, I’ll eat 1/2 a banana and/or small handful of almonds and then I’m good to go. It’s just enough to get me through what I need to do and as soon as I return, I’ll make breakfast.

My body has amazed me by being able to adapt so quickly to the new workouts that I’m introducing to it! Plus it’s a trooper! I’ve put my body through hell and back and it’s amazing how well I recover… plus I never really seem to get sick? It’s pretty amazing!

I’ve never run on grass, but I LOVE running in the sand! It’s amazing.

Reply

mmmm your salads look SOOoooo good! I love huge salads, esp at lunch :)

Reply

haha I loved the video – you’re too funny! I didn’t see the yogurt spill though. :)

If I’m working out in the morning, I usually don’t eat before unless I’m running a longer run. If I’m hungry, I’ll grab a date or some raisins, but I can’t eat for a half hour after I get up anyways because of my medication!

Reply

Very happy for you girl! You look great and ready to rock marathons again, but I guess we’ll let the doc decide that one.

So I retired my Sauconys (RIP babies, I will miss you forever and ever) and bought Mizuno Waverider 14s today and was THRILLED to see that you know and love the WRs too! I’m about to take them out for a zip around the neighbourhood and I’m embarrassingly excited :) :)

Reply

I am SO SO happy that you got the Mizuno’s!! Wahoo!! Let me know how you like them and RIP Saucony’s:) Thank you for your sweet comment!

Reply

That’s so awesome that you are recovering so well! It makes you feel like you can do anything when you come back from a set back, right? My body taught me a lot when I ran my first marathon and was completely rid of soreness two days later. I was like “whoa! I feel great!” I didn’t expect that at all!

Reply

TWO DAYS LATER….wow, you are my hero!! I feel like I walk like a grandma for two weeks!

Reply

I ran this morning and just had a banana with PB before the run…it worked pretty good for keeping me full. But if you’re going to do that, be smart and take a few sips of water before heading out. My mouth was terribly dry the whole run – that’s just wrong!

Reply

I hate having a dry mouth when I am running…all I can think about is water and then I end up using someone’s hose to hydrate!!!

Reply

eeek! i am so happy for you :) !! i’ve just started reading your blog a few weeks ago and i look forward to each of your posts now. your running is so inspiring to me! i completed my second 1/2 marathon last month and now i’m in week two of training for my FIRST marathon, ahhh! i’m very excited to follow your training, it totally keeps me motivated!

yesss, i always have to eat something before i work out in the mornings (ugh, if i ever manage! i’m much more of an afternoon/evening runner). a slice of toast + nut butter works best. and errr definitely a cup of coffee :)

have a great night!!

Reply

HEY GIRL!!! I am so so happy you commented!! CONGRATS on your second half marathon…you are a rockstar!! I am SO SO happy you are training for your first marathon…you better keep me updated!!

I am an early morning workout-er. I usually pop a few shot blocks/swedish fish/gummy whatevers but lately it’s been a handful of the world’s best granola that I get at my local farmer’s market. And I always have a smoothie on my way to work.

Reply

Swedish fish before a workout…I knew I liked you!!

Reply

I work out in the mornings and I don’t eat till afterwards. I have to set my alarm for 5 and hit snooze for 45 minutes till I get up and rush to make the 6am spin/bodypump class, or whatever else I’m doing that day. There is no time for food in my snooze-schedule :)

Sometimes after bodypump I will drink some chocolate milk, (which I learned from YOU!!) but not always. I usually am pretty bad about getting fuel right after the workout because I have to come home, shower, and be at work by 8. I eat at 9:30.. wayyyy too late, I know… and it’s ALWAYS vanilla chobani, fruit, and granola mixed together. It’s so delicious and I love that it’s a great mix of protein and carbs.

Video = hilarious. I laughed and woke up the dog :)

Reply

Sorry to wake up the dog:) CHOCOLATE MILK IS THE BEST!! I NEED TO GET BACK INTO THAT…thanks for the reminder gorgeous girl!

Reply

I loved that video!! It was hilarious.

Funny that you ask that question… Usually I have to wait at least an hour after I eat before I can run. Today I ate my afternoon snack and then ended up going for a run about 20 minutes after I ate and it was horrible. I was honestly thinking about how I’m going to stagger my meals from now on in order to be able to eat all my meals and run too.

I had a bulging disc and a stress fracture in my back earlier this year and after many aggravating months of limited exercise options and physical therapy, I’m amazed at my body for how it’s healed and that I’m able to run again. Our bodies are truly amazing. Aaaand, I’m going to run the Vegas half marathon and I’m going to go to the blogger summit, so I’ll see you there!! Woo hoo!

Reply

A BULGING DISC AND A STRESS FRACTURE!?!?! BOO!!! Girl, you are my hero for overcoming that and I did my happy dance when I read that we will get to meet at the BLOGGER SUMMIT…we are going to be best friends!

Reply

I’m an afternoon warrior. I have a tendency to run on an empty stomach. It works pretty well for me. Otherwise I’m usually cool with about an hour after I’ve eaten. It’s perfect if I have like a piece of fruit and a few sips of coffee like on weekend “mornings” (I mean like 11 AM).

Reply

I run best on an empty stomach for sure. If I eat a huge bedtime snack I am good to go. I am curious to see if that is going to hold now that I am doing 10+. I’ll have to listen and learn. I think that is the most amazing thing about our bodies they so tell us everything we need to know if we listen.

Reply

It really is so fun to learn about our bodies and see what works best?!?! Keep me updated with how the 10 plus milers go!

Reply

I run in the AM no that school is out. I usually just put shoes on and leave so no breakfast for me. If I have them I hit up the bananas when i get back. During the school year I had lunch around 10:30am so by 3:30 I was good to run.

Reply

i workout first thing in the morning – the thought of eating — ugh. I eat about 30 min after my workout. Usually 1/2 banana, granola cereal and 2% milk with 1/2 glass of 2% on the side.

Reply

Love the video! I need tips on working out in the morning too because I’d love to transition from afternoon/evening to morning workouts. I usually eat a snack in the afternoon, then workout around 1.5 – 2 hours later. If I do go in the morning, I think I would need at least some food before working out.
Grass running is so fun when I’m chasing around little kids and playing the octopus tag games. Gotta be careful for little holes in the ground or wet grass though! My friend actually broke her leg last year after slipping on wet grass during a soccer game.

Reply

I have really been digging a green apple slices with a bit of nutella on the tip. Easy to digest and like a tasty dessert too! OR I love those nature valley bars. They are the bomb diggity.

Reply

I LOVE nature valley bars too!! I need to buy nutella to try it on my apples like you!

Reply

I like to work out first thing in the morning. While I was working this worked out because it was so early, think waking up at 4:45, that my body didn’t need food. Now I’ve been noticing that because I sleep in and don’t run until 8 or 9, I don’t get in a good run because my body is starved…literally! So I need to start eating b-fast…most likely a banana and then have “real” b-fast after the run!

yayyyy, I LOVED your video! Shane was like, who is that?? I was like she’s this AMAZING runner who is HEALED!!!! So happy for you!

Reply

Your comment made my day!! You are the BEST!!! 4:45 a.m. workout…YOU ARE MY HERO WOMAN!!!!

Reply

I usually eat a banana or peanut butter toast before a morning workout, unfortunately I can’t workout on an empty stomach. We are on the same page!

Reply

You are so adorable! I love the video.

About eating before… I’m totally in AM running mode now that the temps are REDONK here. Today I had about 4 oz of milk (because I took 400mg motrin) and a half a banana. If I eat a bunch, I’ll have to pinch one off during my run. And that’s no good… Less is more for me.

My body has shown me how amazing it is by bouncing back after having 3 babies. There was a time during my unmedicated deliveries where I actually thought I was going to split in half. Literally. Oh, and also that I would NEVER be able to poop normally again. NOPE! The body is amazing.

Reply

WOW!!! Love your example of the amazing body. It really is incredible what our bodies can go through and bounce back too! YOU ARE AMAZING and stay cool in that crazy hot weather!

Reply

I have to eat before I workout. If I run on an empty stomach when I first wake up it grumbles LOUDLY! I eat oatmeal and then I’m ok to run about 30 minutes later. I like to wait about 2 hours after I eat, but if it’s just quick carbs (dry cereal, toast, etc) I can eat it right before I run no problem.
I would love to run on grass, maybe I could go across the local baseball field when it’s empty? So fun!

Reply

Thanks for the injury post…I’ve been going through my own personal running injury since the beginning of March, a couple weeks before I was supposed to run my first half marathon. It was such a bummer, I was down for days about it. Not that I would wish this on anyone, but it’s nice to see that I’m not the only person who has felt this way or has gone through this. Your blog really is a bright spot during my day!

Loved the video!! You’re so adorable! :)

I’m happy to tell you that I’m 97% better now. I hated having to bail on SD R&R! I wish the race was this weekend! Sometimes you just have to listen to your body even when your mind/heart is saying “YES!!.” I think I was in a little denial until the very last day. It just wouldn’t have been smart to wobble for 26.2 miles!! Injuries are tough. In the end, it’s just running! I think that your wonderful family, friends were really there for you and really wished they could take the pain away from you. I’m looking forward to hearing about your running and future races. You’re going to be Mrs. Speedy Jacobs real soon!! I forsee a tri- event with all of the swimming you’ve been doing lately!!

it is astounding what the body can come back from and heal! i’m so happy that you’re rocking your recovery…thanks to yogurtland of course. :) you should sign on as their little spokeswoman, “it was the calcium packed fro yo and mountains of gummy bears that brought be back to full running strength!”

i have a really finiky stomach and prefer to run first thing in the morning before breakfast. but when i was racing i’d try to get in at least some oatmeal.

LOVE the video!! You’re back, woohoo!! Thankfully I’m all recovered from my sickness that took me down for a while, and we’re attempting to follow a half training plan! I’m super excited!! And check out my giveaway!!

Reply

Love the video. You crack me up!

I only workout in the mornings on Saturdays and I usually get up at least an hour before my run to eat breakfast. It’s a long run day, so I need all the calories I can get to stay alive!

Reply

I don’t really enjoy grass running but I do it anyway. I ALWAYS get shin splits and I’m scared that they will turn into stress fractures so I do everything I can do avoid them. I have some starting right now as I ramp up my training for the Marine Corps Marathon and so I’m obsessively stretching my shins, walking on my heels, making Js with my ankles, and always running on the grass. I run in suburbia so it makes it really challenging to stay on the grass – I am constantly avoiding holes, dog poo, low tree branches, tree roots, people’s lawn decorations, etc. Crazy stuff. It has worked in the past though – a few weeks before the race I always switch back to pavement so that my body doesn’t go into shock on race day, but other than that I always stick to the grass.

As for what I usually eat in the morning – banana, waffle, 1/2 an energy bar, chocolate chip cookie (I don’t think this helps me any but sometimes I have no control over what my hand puts into my mouth), and other random items.

Have a great weekend!

Reply

Your positive outlook on life is always so inspirational, thank you for sharing it! Also, that video is hilarious and you are adorable.

I’m the same way about breakfast – I turn into a nasty, grumpy, evil person if I don’t eat breakfast. This is actually true of all meals. I just need to eat to be tolerant of the world around me. I’m a morning worker-outer and I need to have a good amount of food before I can make it through… banana and peanut butter works, 18 eggs with bacon works, you know, just something. Otherwise I feel like I might die in the middle.

Grass running freaks me out because on a few runs when I first started running, I went through a little patch of grass and it was HARD! It’s like beach running! Now that I’m more experienced at running, though, I really should try it again.

And my body has been amazing lately – it’s getting me through so much in my life right now and I’m super grateful. Today I looked in the mirror and was really impressed at how my upper body is responding to the extra strength training I’m doing… muscles rock! I love it!

Reply

I wish I could run on the grass.. I have horrible ankles and roll them on the grass all the time! Glad you’re looking at the bright side of the injury =)

Reply

I just found your blog and I have to tell you that you are such an inspiration! I am just a “newbie” at running, I started running last December and today I achieved one of my long-time goals, running 5 miles. I workout every morning before work, and I usually eat a banana before and then a larger breakfast when I’m done!

Reply

My favorite pre-run breakfast is toast with almond butter and sliced strawberries on top. And sometimes a protein bar (zone perfect chocolate coconut) too. Good stuff.
I don’t run on grass-not enough of it out here without running laps through parks and then the other moms look at me like I’m a creeper. I did finally explore some of the trails in the mountains behind my house last weekend, i was very pleasantly surprised that they were pretty soft and almost sandy! Who knew out here past Ut Lake where everything is clay that there was soft dirt up in the hills?! It was fabulous. Tough workout running uphill in that, but so much fun!

Reply

I’m overcoming a metatarsal stress fracture. When the stress fracture first presented itself I was at my highest weekly mileage in my marathon training (and my highest weekly mileage in my entire “running career”). I also thought my life was over. It’s safe to say I fit the definition of “depressed” from lack of running and feeling like a failure as a runner. However my relationship with running at the time had taken an unhealthy turn. I would truly lose sleep worrying if I didn’t think it would be possible to get a run in the next day. SOOO I served my 8 weeks of no running…ok maybe I cheated once or twice just for 10 minutes to remember how good it feels. I got back on the horse, ran for 2 weeks, my foot began to hurt again and am back to “bike only”. Blah blah blah, sad story. HOWEVER, your blog has helped me re-evaluate my previous unhealthy relationships w/running and/or working out. So thanks and congratulations on “being cleared” to run 3 miles! :)

I get soooo hangry when I don’t’ have breakfast!!!!! My family cannot deal with me because I get a really short patience and kind of become a beeyotch.

It’s really hard for me to workout on an empty stomach. I typically workout later in the day after eating a big meal. Many people say they have to wait 30 mins- 2 hours after eating before they can work out. I think I typically wait about 20 minutes before I workout and I somehow never notice a problem!

When I came over to this post I can only see part of it, is this my internet web browser or the internet website? Should I reboot?
