Smiling feels good.

As hard as my headache and my students being out of control today tried to make me mad…..it just wouldn’t happen.

Between amazing comments/help/guidance/experiences from YOU GUYS in the Period Post, wearing pink, starting the day off with a killer pump class, feeling STRONGER,  and a crazy delicious lunch, I couldn’t help but be happy.

You know those days that you just feel at peace..

Smiling happens more than breathing.

Yeah, days like that rock.

So, even though physically I am not the healthiest ever with the whole femur thing…

My mental health is soaring today.

I think a big part of this random injection of happiness (more than my normal levels of crazy optimism) is realizing that I am more than running.  We are more than miles, lbs or fitness accomplishments.   We each have MANY people that NEED us, we are STRONG, and we have SO many great things in our lives right now and ahead of us.

I don’t really know where I am going with this post besides to say that I love the days that even though everything around you is begging you to not smile, you can’t help but CHOOSE to put on a different pair of glasses and see the world and people in the best way possible.

Yoga update- I don’t know what is in the air during my yoga classes but somehow my anxiety melts away, my leg feels better and I feel like I am on the top of the world after.

Welcome to my blog where I talk about how obsessed I get with something new each week and then forget about it the next week (I may be referring to the push-up challenge here, oops) but I am really hoping this Yoga phase lasts for a while.

PS I am sorry for being so mushy gushy this week on the blog.  I did warn you that it is our wedding anniversary week (I don’t just celebrate the day of a holiday but the entire week instead).

What gave you a big smile today?  (it is more than acceptable to answer chocolate)

Who is your favorite person to see smile?

-Billy get’s first place and my neice’s and nephew’s get second place!

To go along with the neice picture….have you ever surfed, boogy boarded or body surfed?

-I have tried many times but each time I end up with sand in my swim suit and ears full of water.  I run because I lack all coordination to do any other sport.

I smile because someone heard me sing (and I'm finishing off a cold right now!) and asked why I wasn't in choir anymore. It was such a compliment, and it felt so RIGHT to be singing again!

I am just like you in surfing boarding whatever department…disaster!

I love seeing my Q-Man smile :)

I am smiling about this post and how happy you sound…oh, and chocolate ;-)

I love that you had such a good day. Yay :)

The best thing about my day was the fact that yesterday was my last day of classes, so while I've been working on papers and take home finals all day, I got to sleep in and haven't had to commute. Woohoo!

Also, this. Cats sleeping in all sorts of ridiculous and adorable ways and it makes me laugh a lot. http://www.uproxx.com/feature/2011/04/50-cats-straight-chillin/#page/1

This might sound cheesy, but I love seeing my mom smile. When she's in a really good mood and just acting goofy with me like I'm a little kid again, it makes me happy.

Oh, and I've definitely never tried to surf or anything like that. I'm the least coordinated person in the world. I almost face plant just from running on a treadmill. I CANNOT be trusted near anything like that.

Reply

I run because I lack the coordination to do any other sport as well!

This makes me SMILE! :) Last night I had time with my BFF and that made me smile. We had a few laughing in church (but not at church) moments where we tried really hard not to laugh but couldn't control ourselves. So wonderful to really laugh. I love seeing my husband smile. :) And my kids. Oh and I read your period post. I just didn't comment. I lost my period once when I ran Boston and then I just stopped running so much so that I could make babies …ha ha.. and it came back. Love my period. ;) Hope things start flowing.

I love days like that!!! Today one of my closest friends (she is also my food/fitness/everything accountability friend) told me how much she admires me and loves me. It made me smile BIG. Also, my students are crazy right now (two weeks left!), but they still can make me smile with the crazy things they say and random questions they ask me… Also, I had frozen yogurt last night and today, which always makes me smile.

Daniel definitely gets numero uno, but, like you, my nieces and nephews are second for sure.

I took surfing lessons in Hawaii and absolutely LOVED it – I could have stayed out there all day. One day I will go surfing again!

Sadly, I've been stuck in my house by myself all day today working on final exams/papers, so I don't have a cool/motivational answer. But this is one thing that made me smile today: http://www.horness.com/tools/screenclean.swf

Sometimes, you gotta find joy in the little things:).

I had that same kind of day! The weather was BEAUTIFUL, i got to work in the garden with my mom, spend time with my sister & nephew, take a long nap, and eat good food. nothing beats that. So glad to hear life is looking up for you :) you deserve it

That picture of your niece (?) is just too cute!! That girl is absolutely adorbs

Haha, I run due to lack of coordination too! I always, always wanted to be that super cool athletic chick who played softball and soccer and volleyball… Then I realized that, by playing those sports, I was risking my own well-being, as well as the health and well-being of those around me. LOL

The absolutely gorgeous weather made me smile today. I have [not-so] patiently been waiting for warmer weather to get here and it finally is! :)

Big smile – I enjoyed a great lunch with mu dad!

I love to see anyone smile, especially if I made it happen :-)

I took a surfing lesson when I was in Hawaii and swallowed so much salt water I felt sick the rest of the day :-/

It made me smile that I get to have a slumber party with my good friend tonight while Mike has his poker night!

I love making Mike smile, but laughing is better. He has this crazy laugh that always sounds like he's surprised by it.

your period post made me smile. it's now the topic of conversation amongst alll my clients tonight and probably tomorrow.

That is so great that you are doing so great mentally. You are such an inspiration for runners and non-runners

Seeing the sun (finally after days of rain) made me smile today…and my kids make me smile EVERY day :)
One of your comments, where you said "realizing that you're more than running", makes me think of a book I'm reading now that really puts things into perspective. It's Ryan Hall's "Running with Joy"…haven't finished it yet, but it's awesome so far, and I highly recommend it. If you haven't read it yet, definitely put it on your to do list.

I've had the smiliest most awesomesauce day today than i have in a while… things are just looking up, and it proves how our mental state affects EVERYTHING! i looked in the mirror at this girl at the gym this morning who is not a morning person, (is 40lbs lighter than last summer) yet she was there with sweat dripping into her eyeballs and lovin every second!! turning into a strong healthy person makes me smile :) this is my all time favorite post i must say!!!! =)

I've always wanted to try surfing!

I am so happy you had a great day! Sometimes it just takes time to realize that there is more to life then just running and weight issues. There is a whole entire world out there, go discover it!
What made me smile today….seeing my students leave at 1:00 for an early out. As much as I love my students, with three weeks until summer and the nice weather my students have been CRAZY. We are all getting on eachother nerves lol
Two people I love to see smile, my puppy Cooper and my boyfriend Craig :)

My daughter just got some of those hipster ray bans. I showed her your pic and she wanted to know who the pretty lady was…uh errr how do you explain blogger friends to an 11 yr old? LOL Anywho, what made me smile today was spin class (I sent you an email) and a small waffle bowl with vanilla icecream.

Reply

My foster cat, Chester, made me smile. I was foam rolling the living daylights out of myself and he decided to eat my hair. It was adorable and silly.

Of the bazillions of posts you've written… this is one of my faves! You're such an inspirational little runner/yogini/push-up queen!!

Great post! Your niece is so adorable!!

My favorite smile of course is my spouse but my close second is my nephew. He has my heart.

I LOVE to surf. I'm not very good. I had a surfboard but I just got rid of it when we moved because it was banged up beyond repair. It's so much fun.

Reply

I love smiling at strangers and then they smile back :)

Reply

My spin instructor who I hadn't seen in months made me smile today :)

I tried surfing in Hawaii last year and thought I was going to die. I got swept away by a huge wave (I'm not a strong swimmer), landed in a crowd of real legit surfers who I thought were going to run over my head when the next big wave came, got my feet and legs scraped by coral, and lost a toenail. How's that for a surfing experience?

Happy anniversary week :)

I crowd surfed at a concert once. Does that count?

I love when Brian, my fiance smiles at me. Or laughs at me for being silly. making him laugh= my happiness. <3

I had a terribly stressful day at work and reading your post made me smile.

I love, love, love this post. It made me smile :)

The thing that made me smile today was listening to my students read their short stories. Those kids are so talented.

My favorite people to see smile are, the husband, the dog, and my nephew.

And I've never tried to boogie board or anything, but I've also never had the chance.

I smile every morning when I wake up and there is an email from my boyfriend (all the way across the world) waiting for me to read – starts the day off perfectly!
My favourite person to see smile is my little sister (not so little now as she is nearly 21). She is just beautiful and it makes me glow to see her happy :)
I seem to be surrounded by people who surf and I live near the beach but I don't think that someone who lacks basic coordination such as myself should really risk it. Have been boogie boarding many times though. Lots of fun.

Oh and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY WEEK!!!
You totally have the right to be mushy and gushy!!

Thinking that my new nephew is going to be born in about 2 weeks made me smile. I love seeing my little boys smile! I tried surfing once. It was high tide, my brother paddled out with me and then ditched me. The waves kept breaking on top of me, sent me down to the bottom, I would swim back up just in time for another wave to break on top of me. I almost drowned. Fortunately my brother returned from where ever he went just in time to pull me up and tow me back. OH and I got a nasty ear infection from the polluted water as a souvenir.

Bring on the mush & gush!! And here's to a very romantic and awesome anniversary for you and your guy :)
Your blog and photos made me smile plus also seeing my friends at the gym & listening to my kids laugh (best sound ever!)
I haven't tried boogie/surfboarding as I am a wimpy swimmer. I love the beach but am more of a sandcastle builder than an athlete around the water.
I'm so glad you had such a great day. Your outlook is wonderfully contagious. Love the glasses- I think you need to host a talk show :) And your niece is just smushably adorable!

Reply

I love the picture of you in the glasses! Makes me happy. I feel the same way about yoga lately – I hope it's not just a phase for either of us since it seems to help so much with anxiety and relaxation!

Love days like that :)

Today I smiled when I tried a new Edy's pineapple popsicle after my run. The chunks of pineapple were to die for!

This post makes me happy! Loving your beautiful smile all over the place.

Okay, I know I should say Spencer (my hubs) but when my doggy Cooper smiles (dogs DO smile!!) its the best! :)

I haven't tried surfing…but WANT to–or at least paddle boarding!

Keep enjoying that yoga–its working for you!!!

Reply

yay for good mental health days!
what made me smile today was that it was the last day of finals of my junior year of college! i'm officially a senior with just one year to go!

and i used to try to boogie board, but always ended up with a face full of sand and oftentimes a missing bathing suit top. no bueno.

Reply

Days like that are awesome! I definitely wish that they could come more often, but when they do, it's the best.

I never tried boogie boarding or surfing, because like you, I have very little coordination. I even hurt myself when I run, so I don't think surfing would be the greatest idea lol

I'm a relatively new reader, and I just have to say that this post made my whole day better. Thank you so much for your positivity, and for sharing it with us! I might have to put "We each have MANY people that NEED us, we are STRONG, and we have SO many great things in our lives right now and ahead of us" on my bathroom mirror!

What made me smile today was hearing my boyfriend's voice after not being able to talk to him yesterday – good old long distance love! My favorite person to see smile is probably my dad because he just has such a genuine, infectious smile. And last but not least, for the sake of the world, I have never done any of those things. I also make it a point not to ski and snowboard because really, it's just uncomfortable and embarrassing for everyone involved.

Janae, I just love you!

Aw, I'm so glad you had a good day :) Something that made me smile yesterday was my amazing dinner. I don't eat pasta often, so when I do I REALLY enjoy it!

Good post, I am the same way when it comes to bouncing all over the place with new fav's. Yoga makes me feel amazing too. Today I'm trying Hot Yoga for the first time. Have you tried it? I'm not sure what to expect…I guess just a bunch of dripping sweat everywhere. Enjoy your anniversary week!
