Boston, Omelets and a Balanced Lunch

My biggest complaint about the temperatures rising…….

IMG 0195

My chocolate chips now melt in my hands…….either that, or my palms are sweating more than usual.  Don’t worry, no chocolate was wasted and I licked that semi-sweet goodness off my hands in no time.

This morning I woke up bright and early and hit up my favorite all abs class.  It had me shaking so good and Billy will probably have to carry me to wherever I want to go (between my crazy sore core and mis femur I am more of a gimp than ever) all day tomorrow.

We then went over to my parents house to have breakfast and to……

IMG 0196

watch the BOSTON MARATHON!!!! Holy macaroni and cheese there was a lot of excitement, drama and at points I was tearing out my hair and yelling at the TV.  WOW…DESIREE WAS AMAZING….WHERE DID SHE COME FROM!?!

Don’t worry Kara, I am still beyond obsessed with you!!!

After watching the marathon I went for an awesome 45 minute swim and then a fun trip to MODBOD (details to come soon) and then met my mom for lunch.

Yes, this was my lunch and I wouldn’t have it any other way (Remember I don’t post even close to everything I eat on the blog…..think 4 granola bars, apples, banana, greek yogurt before and after my so called ‘lunch’…you get the picture.)

IMG 0198

It was heaven as usual even if my creepy eyes tell you another story.

IMG 0199

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE THAT DID BOSTON!!!  I can’t wait to read your recaps!!!  I am so happy the weather was good for you even though it was pouring rain here all day ha!

———————————————————————————————————-

What did you think about the Boston Marathon RESULTS?!?!

-Of course my heart is with Kara but man, I was really growing to love Desiree and wanted her to win so bad…..she is a POWERHOUSE (all 5’2″ of her:)  Does anyone know what happened to Kim Smith?

If you have a food blog do you post everything you eat on there?  What do you think about that whole thing……do you compare yourself or do you just think that they must not post everything they eat so it is pointless to compare?

-I like to post the highlights of what I eat throughout the day and if I took a picture of every handful of skittles or milk duds I ate I think our 2 GB memory card would run out of space on a daily occasion.

Semi-sweet, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch or mint chocolate chips?

-All of the above but if I had to choose….WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIPS!!!

i told luke about your injury (hadn't mentioned anything about it) and told him instead of boston you were gonna run new york. he was like, wait… she's not gonna do anything else until then, right? i worry about that girl…

HAHAHAHA insanity around here.

I was also wondering what happened to Kim Smith?! I tried to figure it out and no luck!

I love dark chocolate these days :)

I like these questions.
I was in class checking the tweet updates for the marathon on the edge of my seat. I can't believe how fast the elites ran. Very excited for my friend Matt's time, too.
I guess I'm more of a "recipe blog" because I just post a recipe a day. And even sometimes it's not a recipe but sarcastic bitching.
Dark chocolate. All the way. Except when i want milk or white. I'm indecisive.

Reply

That melting (DARK all the way!!) chocolate chip thing is definitely the biggest downside to hot weather. I think that every year! :P

And I sooo badly wanted Kara to win!! Did you see her post-race video interview? Here's the link in case you wanna see it: http://bostonmarathon.runnersworld.com/2011/04/kara-goucher-prs-vows-return.html

I love her:)

Reply

your so gorgeous janae! :)

Reply

Next year you're gunna be just like desiree…people are gunna wonder where you came from!!! I kept thinking that during the race :) I don't post everything I ate but just the main points (I just typed pain moints…uhh dyslexic?) but I love mint chocolate chips and dark chocolate chips…thats a very hard choice!

Reply

my blog is "Fitness Health and Food" so I post about all three and I definitely do not post everything I eat. I don't think it's necessary or to be honest healthy for the blogger or the readers – Too much comparison or feeling of scrutiny.

Reply

Those people are freakishly fast!! I can’t believe it! Desiree is incredible.

I could never have a food blog where I posted everything I eat like some food bloggers do. That is just way too much for me, personally. :)

Reply

You are going to run Boston next year and even beat Kara!!! :) I do not post everything I eat-NO way. I'd be bored out of my eyeballs taking pictures of it all. Yikes!!

I love swimming and I love milk or dark chocolate. Both are great :)

Janae, I did a post about watching the elites that talks about what happened to each of them – hopefully that will help you out with all the details! Felt terrible for Kim Smith but I was so impressed that she tried to finish even when the medical staff were telling her to quit.
http://www.50by25.com/2011/04/boston-marathon-elite-race-recap.html

I used to post cooking recipes, but haven't done that in a while. However, now that I'm home for a week or so, I may start up again!

If I had to choose, I'd pick either white chocolate or butterscotch. They're so much sweeter!

Reply

I post MOSTLY about food on my blog but for sure not even close to everything that I eat. It's mostly meals or desserts, and my weekly weekend breakfast recap that I do. I could never post EVERYTHING! I getchya.

Oh and I am munching on some dark chocolate right now…I may or may not have put dark chocolate squares on top of a rice cake that had peanut butter smeared on it. mmmmmm

This year is the first year I heard about the Boston Marathon and the results and I have to say even though I don't know much about it, it is still pretty exciting.

Reply

congratulations to everyone who ran Boston today! I could not stop stalking the race. :)

Semi-sweet!

I was so excited by Kim Smith and I really, really thought she was going to win. I guess she injured a muscle and just couldn't keep up. I was also really excited for Ryan Hall, but the winner was having the run of his life!

Reply

Wow, your eyes REALLY DO look creepy in that picture! LOL

White chocolate is my absolute favorite chocolate. Give me a white chocolate chip/macadamia nut cookie, and I'm putty in your hands.

Reply

I didn't watch the race – I was working all day! So glad you were still able to enjoy it!

I never never ever EVER posted everything that I eat!!!

Reply

Post whatever you want about food it gets me out of food ruts. I just want to say since finding your blog I have rediscovered:
1)frozen yogurt
2)gummi anything
3) cinnamon bread
4) roasted broccoli
5) salsa on top of salads
6)egg sandwiches
7)rocky road ice cream.
8) frosting

hahahahahah, notice how many of them are sweet?!

Reply

Kim Smith- think she tore a hamstring? I know she bailed out after leading the pack for quite a while- I was watching the live feed when she pulled up, grabbed at her leg- tryed to keep going and after a few more miles stopped. Bummer! I was pumped for Desiree too- AWESOME! It was an exciting race all around. (and good weather here in the NE)

I love all chocolate, which is why I can't have any in my house–for some reason I feel like I have to eat it all to "get rid of the evidence" so I eat it till it is gone, then try not to buy anymore…I'm like that with most sweets, so I usually buy a bag of whatever, take them to a friend's house, pig out, then leave the rest there!

Reply

I'm totally with you on the white chocolate chips thing!

Reply

White chocolate chips for sure….also love my butterscotch and PB chips. Not a fan of chocolate ones.

Reply

Melted choco chips!! BUMMER! Yogurtland NEVER gets old!!! If you come to LA we need to have a blogger Yogurtland meetup!!!

Reply

white chocolate chips are the best hands down. White chocolate anything for that matter. I wish we had a Yogurtland around here. Your pictures make me want it more and more!

Reply

Don't worry, I had fro-yo for dinner! I hardly post anything I eat. Sometimes I think it would be fun, but then I worry that people might hate it! Plus, I wouldn't wanna get too caught up in it, ya know? Semi-sweet chips all the way!!!

Reply

I don't post everything. I don't hate time and there is no need too because everyone has a different metabolism and works out and needs certain foods.

But everyone needs candy and chocolate. That is all.

Reply

Please tell me that Yogurtland gives you some free stuff!!!??? You deserve it!

Just when I think that one pic you post of yogurt is the best….then comes another :)

I really wanted Kim to win, she is a Kiwi like me and in her pre race interview she was talking about how in NZ they chuck a cone on the road and you run around it and thats our 5ks, so true!
It looks like her calf/ankle got injured. Hope it is nothing too serious because I believe she is going to kick some serious butt.
Des is from brooks-hanson, they are a really great coaching team and she has had a very solid build up to Boston so I am not surprised that she placed.
Kara did amazing for someone who had a bubba after 7 months, Colt is a cutey!

Joan is truly a fearsome runner, 50plus and racing those times! What a legend.

I got up at 1am our time, with snacks to follow the coverage of the race. It was exciting! Then i slept in, took the day off work and just got back from a 11 miler hilly run, thinking about the hills of Boston the whole time!

Reply

WHY have that asked craaaaazy Michelle to model for them?!

Reply

I'm in Britain so I couldn't WATCH it live but I tweet stalked the entire race- Smith just seemed to drop after 21 miles out of the commentary!

Did any of you guys watch London?

I sometimes post about what I eat, but I reckon constantly posting everything is a recipie for disaster or at least some seriously funky feelings abbout eating.

What kind of car is in your first picture? It has a really nice interior.

Reply

dark chocolate chips all the way! Sometimes, if need be I will do semi-sweet choc chips :)

Reply

Boston was amazing to watch! Such a fast race! I post pictures of food sometimes–definitely not everything. I snack way too much and couldn't capture everything!
And…any/all chocolate chips. Just stick them in the freezer first please!

Reply

any chips are good with me!

I didn't watch the race, but just read SR's recap, it looks amazing!

Reply

I was pulling for Desiree but I was bummed for Kara. Everyone ran a great race though. I wish I had an ounce of their speed!
I'd have to say milk chocolate is my favorite, followed closely by dark, but truth is, I'd eat any and all gladly. : )

Watched the Boston Marathon today @ mile maker 23. It was such a blast cheering on the runners (a first, since I'm usually one of the runners), telling 'em they look great & are only 3 mi to the finish & grabbing hand slaps from the runners. It was inspiring. Next year I will be there (even if I have to run for charity which I know some runners are against that). Maybe you can run next year too and beat Caroline's time of 2:22.

Reply

I was following the marathon via twitter, and it was SO exciting! I really wanted Desiree or Kara to win! I'm a fan of dark chocolate, but semi-sweet chocolate chips!

Reply

I don't have a food blog…just my blog and there is food….I NEVER post a days eats and STILL get so much flack. If I write about, for example my recipe for Kimchi I get flack…eat something…that has no calories…etc. So frus.
Glad you got to enjoy the marathon in good company and cheer. It couldn't have been easy. Good thing you had a great lunch after.

Reply

I don't have a real food blog because honestly I'm pretty boring and tend to eat the same things over and over again. Pretty sure readers would get sick of seeing photos of toast and jam eight times a week :)

All chocolate chips have a special place in my heart (and my belly) :) I DO NOT DISCRIMINATE!!!

ps… I saw this and thought of you hahaha it reminded me of your goldfish/animal-shaped food love – http://www.seriouseats.com/2011/04/happy-national-animal-cracker-day.html
Hope you're celebrating this most sacred of days ;)

Reply

I would go for a mix of butterscotch and semi sweet chocolate! yum!

and um. wow for the boston marathon. i am a new runner, and i know i won't even run a half in that time! truly amazing!

Reply

The race was amazing!! I was jumping up and down and screaming at the screen at the women's finish! YOU will be there and rocking it next year, Janae!! Thinking of you today. Can't wait for NY for you.

Reply

I didn't get the watch the Boston marathon, I was swamped at work, but I was rooting for everyone! As a runner, I am just now getting familiar with all the athletes, so I am slowly learning names. But I did order Kara's book and can't wait to read it when it comes in and learn all about her!

Reply

Hands down, milk chocolate every time!

I think I need to take your lead and go out for frozen yogurt more often. That looks SO GOOD right now!

Reply

So happy the US had a good showing but really wanted them to pull out a win. Next year, right?
I love dark chocolate every time.
As a random side note, my fam and I are doing the 100 pushup challenge (6 weeks). We did our initial test tonight. My 8 year old kicked all of out butt's by pumping out 45 good push-ups.

Reply

Loved Boston marathon watching…Desi is my new hero :)
I don't post everything too time consuming and I'd get bored plus I eat pretty much the same every day.
Semi-sweet or dark all the way mmmmm

Reply

I'm glad you're still able to get in some workouts despite your injury! You ,motivate people to keep moving forward and make the most of everyday. :)

I love dark chocolate chips. Straight from the bag or on a spoon of almond butter. I can't imagine taking a photo of everything I ate. I'd be taking photos all day. Ha.

Reply

i'm so sorry you didn't get to run it this year! but hey, now we have an exciting twist in your blog :) i WAS wondering what the heck we would watch you do next after you ran boston, so i'm kind of excited that chapter hasn't closed yet! BUT SAD FOR YOU! i thought of you all day and was going to text you. but i didn't. sorry. i love you and know you will do so great next year! maybe consider moving to nigeria for training…?

Reply

You forgot peanut butter chips! Mmmm!

Reply

Your fro yo always looks so amazing! If I lived closer to Utah I would def have to drive to go to fro yo with you! I can't wait for you to dominate Boston next year! I'm so sad for you that you weren't able to run this year. I know you will make it through this injury though and come out stronger, you are an amazing person! :)

Reply

You are always so funny! Love crazy eyes pics–if there was a yogurtland near me, I would buy stock and be a very faithful customer. :)

I think it would be so hard to remember to take pics of all you eat–I always get hungry reading food blogs!! :)

Way to kill your swimming and ab workouts–still finding a way to be fit and keep your stamina in check during your healing time.

I have to read kara's book don't I?

white chocolate… my fav. so so so good.

glad you had a good day girlie! we need another date sooN! triple date w/Kelsey!

Kim Smith sprained her ankle:( http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/4903689/Painful-end-for-Kimberly-Smith-at-Boston-Marathon

During the race Runner's World said Kim had a cramp.

Reply

White chocolate all the way! Your meals always look so incredibly healthy!

Reply

I'll eat any kind of chocolate chips! I hate when they melt on my hand… just means I have to shovel them in my mouth faster, if that's possible!

Reply

Semi sweet or dark for me please :)
I put up some of my food, but I would get bored posting the same things every day!

Reply

You'll be here next year and you'll kick butt! I'm not posting my recap for a couple weeks, but will do in May when I'm home!

Reply

Def dark chocolate!!

Boston… I envy those with such great talent. I should have started when I was younger.

Reply

i might be just as obsessed with broccoli as you are, but i've never put it in an omelette. thank you for inspiring my next breakfast!! :)

dark choc is my favorite, but i'm not one to discriminate against any of the others!

i don't post everything i eat. i think that would make me obsessive about it and i don't think anyone really cares about every bite that goes into my mouth. and then people would see how much of a crazy candy eater i truly am!

Reply

The marathon rocked! I got to see the Elite ladies run by me right before mile 25. I put a video of it up on my blog! Check it out!!!
