3 Ingredient Smoothie and the Dating Days.

Rewind to 1.5 years ago during a trip to Costco.

“AHHH, Billy…..look at this Muscle Milk.  The nutritional stats are phenomenal and they will help my muscles get huge, plus it is CHOCOLATE.”

“But Janae, you hate things that taste like protein powder and I don’t think it is a good idea to waste $28 on something you will never drink.”

(Insert puppy dog eyes and a promise to drink them)  We ended up buying it.

I had one.  It tasted like pure protein powder.  I refused to throw it away and every time I opened the fridge all 32 of them stared at me and reminded me of how Billy is always right.

Until today that is.

Photo 7

If I use it in my smoothie and put in enough frozen bananas and ice cubes (yes, we are cool and use an ice tray) it actually tastes like a banana chocolate shake.

They are a little past their expiration date but I think they are fine (if hungryrunnergirl gets really sick and passes away in the near future, you know why) and I am determined to drink every last one of them in the form of a delicious smoothie after my runs.

After teaching spin this morning, I pounded out 5 miles of running and 3 miles of walking….progress people.  5 miles equals being able to do 26.2 in 11 days right?!?!

Billster and I are coming up on our 2 year anniversary!!! I was thinking about our dating days when we had money and no responsibilities and I wanted to share with you some of my favorite memories from the dating days.

This was the FIRST picture we ever took together after going out for Sushi.  I was already way past whooped over this kid at this point.  Did I tell you that the first time I saw him I told my roommate that I would kiss him.  I get what I want.

Lots of BYU football games (snow cones are mandatory) and BYU basketball games (below).

IMG 0727

Canyoneering in Zions and licking Billy’s neck.

IMG 1063

Trips to Sundance to look at the leaves changing colors (poor guy does this just because he knows I love it).

IMG 0424

Concerts.

IMG 0330

Ski trips, I ski and he snowboards.

IMG 0051

DISNEYLAND, seriously my favorite place on earth……I NEED to do the Disney Marathon.

IMG 0108

We even got to go on a Caribbean cruise with my family (he and my bro are BEST FRIENDS and they were bunk mates:)

IMG 1347

Sorry, to get all mush gushy on you but you have to keep in mind that about every 28 days my hormones are all out of whack and I get all sentimental and lovey dovey on you…..plus, our social health/relationships are a HUGE part of our overall health.

——————————————————————————————————————

Tell me some of your FAVORITE dating stories or memories!!!!

Do you ski or snowboard?

Do you eat things past their expiration date?

-If it passes the sniff test it goes into my belly.

Do you like to hike? Where is your favorite place to hike?

-Southern Utah is amazing.  I can only last about 2-3 days of camping before I start going crazy without my lap top, skittle stash and ice cream maker.

Aw your pictures & dating stories are so cute! My favorite memories so far are tons of sushi dates, skydiving for our 1 year dating anniversary (!!), and snowboarding in Colorado. We also went on a 2 day hiking trip on the Long Trail, which was awesome, and we saw 3 moose up close (a bit TOO close).

Reply

I love chocolate muscle milk! It makes the greatest protein shakes. My favorite dates always involve food! I cant eat anything past its expiration date….I can be picky like that. We love to hike, and living in Montana we do it several times week. But when we lived in Virginia we once did a 14 mile hike in one day and it actually sucked.

Reply

Such cute pictures!! I am a skiier-the husband snowboards (I forgive him. haha). I don't eat things after the expiration date b/c of some sour (literally) experiences! I will always remember a date my husband and I did when we were dating-a triathlon-and how much fun it was to spend time with him! And I love hiking in s. utah too!

Reply

First let me just say, awwwwwww, you two are so cute!

Alright, onto the questions! I loveeeeeeee hiking in So Cal, it's amazing!

I get anxiety over expiration dates as well as cross contamination between food. Like if I crack an egg while I'm baking, I make sure I wash any places the raw egg touched, before going onto the next step in the recipe.

And finally, I reallllly want to run the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon this year!!!!! I would love to wear a tutu or full on princess gear!!

Reply

way to go on the 5 miles!! That is awesome!

What is your plan for Boston? Running the whole thing, walking, … ??

I LOVE looking back on old pictures of me and my husband. We were SO young and little!!

Reply

Janae-

You are beyond gorgeous–not even fair! You and Billy make a super cute couple. Congrats on the upcoming 2 years!

And southern Utah does have some pretty amazing hiking. Between there and the Cottonwood canyons, I think Utah beats all other states! :)

Reply

I love the simple dates.. going to dinner, getting icecream, and going on a walk!

I drank milk that said it was good, but smelled terrible a few days ago, and let me tell ya that was a big mistake!! Throw away your old food! hah

Reply

I love looking at these pics! Y'all are such an adorable couple. It's fun to look back on the beginning of my relationship with Billy. Things were sooooo different back then, but we love looking back at photos when Billy lived in NYC and I'd visit him. I love hiking! My favorite places are Lake Tahoe, Napa, and Switzerland – amazing! I wish there was more hiking near Dallas.

Reply

I love the walk down memory lane! I also stick with the "if it smells ok, I eat it" rule :)

Reply

We love to hike. We're gonig to hike around Mt. Diablo on Saturday (the top is closed due to the snow). It should still be fun!

Reply

Ok, SERIOUSLY. Yall are TOO CUTE! I'm getting all mushy over here looking at the pics and reading about your story.

I have yet to have any happy dating memories…but it's a work in progress! "Gotta kiss a lotta frogs…" right?

I don't do any snow sports, but I'm dying to learn to ski. And I want to go snowshoeing!

I'm an expiration date nazi. I get jittery about eating things the day before the expiration date.

I love hiking, but don't have a particular favorite spot. Anywhere in "God's country," as my dad says, is fine by me.

Reply

ahhhh….we all get mushy every 28 days!

and i love hiking in mammoth lakes. or the beaches in socal!!!

Reply

Happy anniversary and CONGRATS on the run! Progress!! (the noun, not the verb, otherwise it sounds like I'm yelling at you) :)

Reply

Disney is having some big ol' mystery thing on their Facebook about revealing a new race! Are you following it???

Reply

Yay for 5 miles!

The first time I met Paul I was out with a few friends. My girlfriend told me I was going to marry him. Four years later, she was right. ;)

I used to snowboard. Poorly. I now ski. Even more poorly.

I do eat things past their expiration date, but just depends on what it is. . .

We are big time hiking fans. We love hiking all over the country. I think two of our favorite places are the Adirondack Mountains here in NY (Paul's home state) and Yosemite Nat'l Park in Cali (my home state).

Any interest in running the Disneyland Half Marathon in September? I want to run it but so far I don't have anyone to go with me. Wah.

Reply

aaaaaw love the pictures!!! :D
Glad you liked your smoothie! It looks tasty!

Reply

5 miles is awesome! For most people that is a long wrong, so to be able to do that as a recovery run is HUGE! Way to go!
I am pretty picky and I can not eat things if they are past their expiration day; even if they are just a little bit over. I am paranoid!
Cute pictures of you two!

Reply

I meant long *RUN*–typo!

You guys are too cute…

My favorite dating memories are when the hubby would come visit me at college (he had already graduated and was back on the farm when we met). We had some incredibly romantic times…

All of my family skis, but I have yet to- but I will be learning this next winter so I can join in!

We only live an hour and a half from Glacier national Park, so there are amazing places there to hike- one of our favorite things to do in the summer!

Congrats on the run, that's great!

Reply

Excellent pics! Thanks for sharing and yes I ski but I really wanna snowboard!

Reply

Love the mushy gushy post.

I love hiking more than anything. Favorite places to hike are CO for its fourteeners, or Switzerland for it's beauty. Hiked the narrows for my b-day 5 years ago and that was amazing….your pic took me back.

i am Weird about expiration. Usually won't even eat it on the sell by date.

Reply

For Billy: Anniversary idea for Janae –>> register BOTH of you for the Disney Marathon and run it together holding hands and taking silly pictures the whole way!

Reply

Love the fun pics! And congratulations on the 5 miles =) P.S. Not sure if you follow Shut Up and Run at all – but she has a post on injuries today that I thought you might enjoy: http://twentysixpointtwoormore.blogspot.com/2011/04/panties-behind-furnace.html

AW very cute!

We were "hanging out" for a good 2 years before we went on an official "date" ::insert "seriously?" face here:: It was to a concert where we completely lost each other in the crowd for most of the night (haha!)

I've been eying that Disney Marathon for a while now, and I've decided 2012 is the year! You should definitely sign up too! Registration is July 5th! :-)

Reply

You guys are sooo photogenic! Such wonderful pictures! I wish you both so much happiness! :)

Reply

You and Billy are the cutest couple ever!!!! I'm a snowboarder, skiing just isn't for me!!

Reply

In addition to Maui – Disney marathon together? Well, I'll watch you speed ahead anyway – but really, let's wear tutus?

Reply

Love the pictures! Thanks also for the great smoothie recipe. I am always trying to concoct something new in a form of a smoothie. My fave is the teras bourbon vanilla protein powder with frozen berries and a banana and vanilla almond milk YUMMY! I will definitely have to pick up some chocolate muscle milks now though :) Congrats on running too! I did 4 miles just like the PT said I could. They were the most glorious 4 miles EVER! I think I scared people on the running paths because I was smiling so much and laughing with my dog and being way too happy for someone running!

Reply

Adorable pictures! I love them!

And I'm a snowboarding girl!

If you do the disney marathon let me know so we can have a playdate! That is definitely on my "to run" list!

Reply

I love the stories of you and Billy! I have always wondered how relationships change when people get married…you make me look forward to married life :)

Reply

aww, great photos. I can barely take a photo without pulling a strange or funny face.

I snowboard! I love it, to the point where I used a kid sized snowboard because that's all I could find at last minute and I nearly snapped my ankle – but at least I had fun! hahaaha.

I also love hiking.

I have this weird issue with things that are expired. I think I'm afraid it's going to infect me automatically or something. :P

Reply

lol, I actually like Muscle Milk Light. the 100 cal one tastes all watered down.

I do the sniff test on everything, smells ok, I eat it. I have no shame

Reply

We started dating in HS, "fake dated" for 6 months, and finally admitted to the world that we were actually dating. We eventually got married…on our 6 yr dating anniversary! I swear we aren't actually gushy in real life!

I snowboard, as does The Husband.
I'm all about the sniff test, but Chris is a big chicken with food…sometimes I lie about how long something has been in the fridge…

Reply

Aww I love those pictures and dating memories! We have no money to date aymore either. It's a sad sad thing.

Reply

I wrote a post today about the perfect day from our relationship :)

And it includes a very long hike!

Reply

You guys are so cute! I agree, I HATE the taste of protein powder! I always cover it up with bananas, but I've also found that if I mix a little slim fast mix in with it, it tastes a lot better!

Reply

I have some yogurt in my fridge that expired sometime in February and I'm still eating it…

I believe to have dating stories you actually have to have been on a date before…

I grew up in Colorado, about 30 minutes from a ski resort… I have never been skiing and the first time I went snowboarding was December '09 in Washington…

Reply

you two are way too cute. Seriously. It's so much fun looking back at great relationships and seeing all the things you've enjoyed together! Have a great time celebrating!

Reply

How cute are you two?!!
I love to hike with the hubby–we try to do something outdoorsy as a date every two weeks or so and it's so much fun!

Reply

the sniff test = golden.

and you guys are adorable. i know i've asked you this before but does he have a single brother/cousin/whoever? man, they just don't have boys like that here in ri!

Reply

So I just have to tell you, that you are seriously the sweetest girl I have ever met. And I love your blog to peices!

Oh man…I'm like an old married person. Ha. Dating! Wow, did we really do that? Um…After a couple of months of dating Husband wanted me to come and spend the weekend at his house because there was a rodeo. It was my birthday weekend, and come to find out, his sister has THE SAME BIRTHDAY as me. What are the odds?? We were obviously destined to be together. :)

Reply

Oh P.S. I used to snowboard. But I was never good at it. Like seriously, doing cartwheels down the mountain, but with my head instead of my hands. It was painful. Husband decided I was not snowboard-worthy after that. I think it was for the good. :)

AND. I totally do the sniff test. I keep things waaaaaay past their due dates, and I've had good luck so far!

I love to hike up to Timpanogos Cave! So much fun.

Reply

i made that EXACT smoothie after my long run this weekend :) absolutely making it again! and i could care less about expiration dates as long as it doesnt smell ha- i think they put them on there more for profit purposes…and you should definitely run disney it was amazing!

Reply

I loved hearing about your dating adventures and seeing the pics. You two are a good looking couple!

Snowboard all the way – I own my own gear and board. And I'm another sniff tester.

Congrats on your 5 miles!

Reply

vacations with brian are my favorite memories! im so excited for our honeymoon!

Reply

I eat eggs WAY past their expiration date. After I learned the trick to find out if they're good or not, I don't even bother looking at the box anymore (and have never eaten a bad egg).

If you don't know the trick, here it is: Fill up a tall glass with water, and place the egg inside. If it touches the bottom, and stays there, it's good. If it floats, even if a little bit, it's bad. (Gases are already forming inside which causes it to float.)

Reply

Congrats on the running!! You will do great in Boston. Just have faith!!!

What sweet pictures from your dating days!!!! I love it!

Hmm I am trying to think of my favorite dating memories… our first date obviously! We were at a Mexican place and I had already told my now-spouse that I don't really drink much, which is atypical for most people my age… the look on my spouse's face when I ordered a coke still makes me laugh. Oh and also our first Hanson concert together. That's when I knew, without a doubt, that it was true love. I mean, what kind of person would go to a Hanson concert with someone they didn't love?? :)

I love hiking! It's one of my favorite summertime dates.

Reply

SO cute that you have the first photo you've ever taken together!

Reply

I'm with you on the protein shake. I have protein powder and struggle to drink it unless I combine it with bananas, ice cubes, soy milk and chocolate syrup. glad i'm not alone!

Reply

i always eat things way past their expiry date, but i never told anyone cuz i know they would get grossed out!

Reply

expiration dates-who reads those? by the bye, you and billy are probably one of the most attractive couples out there. please don't take that in a creepy way…oh and check out my GIVEAWAY!

Reply

I don't even look at expiration dates – which might explain why my stomach gets upset a lot? Hahaha

I'm actually going snowboarding this weekend and am SO excited!!! I love spring skiing!

Loved your dating pictures – you two are so adorable together. :) Happy (Upcoming) 2nd Anniversary!

Reply

Um YES, Sundance!! It is so pretty there. I'm pretty sure we took a photo at that exact part on the bridge :)

I love hiking! Basically anywhere outdoors!

Reply

I posted something very similar this Tuesday — pics of some of my fave adventures with my sweetie. Including disneyland and hiking :)

We're hiking junkies. My all time faves are the Colorodo Rockies, and Grand Canyon. Zion is on my list — maybe I'll get to go this year!!

Reply

Those are all gorgeous pictures!!! Thanks for sharing :)

Reply

oh my goodness you two are adorable!!
1. I snowboard (just did Vail and Beaver Creek this year!)
2. Heck no. I'm super scared of milk and think it smells bad as soon as the date is past, but it's prob all in my head.
3. Hiking in the Shenandoah :)

you and Billy are the cutest couple ever. love the pictures.

So excited for Monday!

Love the pics of you and Billy. You two make a gorgeous couple!! You made my heart smile!! :)

Never been hiking but, I've been wanting to go real bad!! Maybe one day when I visit you on your stomping grounds we'll go on a hike together!! :)

Good night!!
Never snowboarded or snow ski…but, I love waterskiing!!

Reply

These pictures make me smile–you two look so happy (and gorgeous) and "whooped" over each other from the get go! Love!!

You totally need to do the Goofy Challenge I think. You could rock that with you stamina and quick recovery! What do you think??

Reply

Love these pics! You two are lovely together! I feel the same way about protein powder! My trick is to use OJ. Choc and Orange is a big combo here in Europe and I've learned to love it slowly over the years. Yogurt, OJ and crappy protein powder that needs using up. I get gag reflexes at vanilla protein powder though, therefore, I stay far away from that stuff!

Reply

LOVE the Light Muscle Milk…good amt of protein for the number of calories!

I got it at COSTCO one time, you're right, it is a little heavy on the protein powder taste.

Reply

Great idea on the protein shake! When I'd make them your way, I might be able to drink them without feeling the urge to throw up! :)

Reply

I ran Boston last year with only running about six miles in the month prior to the race (compliments of an injury!)…as long as you're cleared to run the race, you'll be fine. May not be a PR, but Boston is awesome and you'll love it anyway!

Reply

we use an ice cube tray too, don't worry. all the cool kids are doing it.

I LOVE the pictures, so fun.

I love hiking. We have trails about two miles from us. Mike and I actually got engaged on a hike, so that would probably be a best memory contender :)

Reply

You and the Billster are such an adorable couple! You are going to have beautiful babies.

I snowboard. Well, kind of. I am learning. At least I look good while doing so thanks to my husband for hooking me up with a sweet board, boots, bindings, jacket, etc… :-)

I eat certain foods past expiration dates.

I never hike.

Reply

My husband and I started dating in high school, so we have some funny DRAMA stories from back then! We have no drama now :).

I totally eat stuff past the expiration date. I'm with you on the "sniff test"

I lllllove hiking!! There are a couple of places I frequent around here with mountain biking trails I hike on. One with a lake, and one with a creek. I love hiking around water!

Reply

You and the Billster are too cute :-) I love the pcitures, you're gorgeous Janae!

Sniff test for close to expiry date things, for sure!

We've been dating 7 months, but one of my favorite dating memories was our very first date! We went to a greasy, hole-in-the-wall burger joint – delicious! A close runner up would have to be a racing banquet – he won the championship and it was the first time we ever really danced together. It was a rowdy, ridiculous, FUN night :)

Reply

i wanna do the disney marathon too! and we're coming up on our 2 yr marriage anniversary… had our dating anniv (yes we still celebrate, lol) in feb :)

Reply

You guys are too cute!
It's funny because when I started dating my husband I didn't want anything serious. It was second semester senior year of college and I didn't want to commit to anything. But 6 years later, we are happily married :)

Reply

is that the muse concert last april? funny fact: my husband and i were there. it was our third date! how fun :)

Reply

Skiing all the way! I sure hope you two wear helmets though!

And I love, love, love hiking. Since moving to Montana I have incredible choices of where to go, I can't pick just one!

Reply

Adorable couple! =)
Billy looks a little like Jeff Gordon (nascar), yes?

Reply

I love you two. What a PERFECT couple :)
Have to tell you- LOVE LOVE LOVE that 2nd picture of the two of you– with you in the pink shirt, hair pulled back & Billy with the aviators- SOOOOO cute!

Reply

Your pictures are adorable! My boyfriend is a skier and I am a snowboarder! We both love to go hiking, its one of my favorite ways to workout, nothing better than a long hike with beautiful scenery!

Reply

Let's run the disney princess 1/2!!

Sniff test=pass. Good for launch into my belly.

Reply

Even better idea, you should do the goofy challege in Disney World with me in January. And by WITH me I mean running the same event, because I'm not keeping up with you…. :p

Reply

Haha crap! I hate when my b/f is right. Way to start sneaking some more protein into your diet though! I loved seeing these pictures :-) thanks for sharing. You guys are the cutest.

When I first saw my boyfriend I told my friends that I was going to kiss him someday too!!! Now we've been together for 4 years.

Reply

I have never been skiing or snowboarding in my life, but I really need to try it. I'm just so accident prone that everyone was always afraid I'd break a leg or something.

I've been known to eat food past it's expiration on occasion, but if I'm not sure it is good I'll probably throw it away.

Congrats on your run!!

Reply

I've been reading your blog for a little while now and I love all of your running posts, but I had to comment on this one. I hiked in Utah for the first time this past summer (at Zion) and it is AMAZING! I'm moving to Phoenix after wrapping up law school this year and I can't wait to explore more Utah parks. Have you seen that there are two half-marathons in Canyonlands? I'm dying to do at least one of them.
Good luck with Boston coming up! (I'm from Boston originally and I dream of the day I do Boston – I've been running for a while, but I tend to stick to 10ks and halfs – haven't made the jump to the full yet). Even if you aren't going for your time goal anymore, you're going to have an amazing experience. There is so much to take in: the Wellesley girls, Heartbreak Hill, the crazy Boston College students, and coming down Boylston Street. I have no doubt you will reach your time goal, just may be a different race. Good luck!

Ski! Had a blast at Park City last weekend :)
