The Gym is my New Home.

If you are looking for me I will be joyfully riding my little heart out on the bike or attempting to flap my arms around in a pool (if you do see me, do not be alarmed…..It just looks like I am drowning but that is what I call my breast stroke).

Today’s Workout Agenda (Please remember I am not doing this for weight loss or because I am psycho….well I am kind of a psycho, it is the advice of my Physical Therapist in order for me to still kick trash in Boston or finish for that matter.  I am under a doctor’s supervision, I am keeping the tension low and most importantly LISTENING TO MY BODY).

-Before school: 75 Minutes of biking (50 of those minutes were during a spin class that was AWESOME, best. music. ever.)

-30 Minutes of strength training during lunch, the gym is CLOSE to my work.

PT APPOINTMENT after school, WAHOO:)

-PM workout: teach spin and an additional 30 minutes of riding before class.

Has anyone ever eaten a PB and J while biking…..I can now say I have.

Tomorrow I will be focusing on my SWIMMING along with teaching a spin class.  The biggest problem with swimming is it is forcing me to wash my hair more often and that is the number one reason I will not be getting into triathlons anytime soon unless I buzz my head, it takes TOO much time to blow dry and straighten my hair.

I have done some tri’s awhile go and they really are fun but going fast downhill on the bike scares me and even though I can get a good lead in the run EVERYONE and there grandma catches up to me and passes me on the swim.  I don’t like losing, I am a sore loser.

Yeah, I want to steal my Aunt’s arms.  They are hardcore.  And don’t worry I am attempting to work on my posture.

Time for some more of your AMAZING RACE photos!!

The CUTEST Lindsay @ LearningToCookEatandEnjoysent in this awesome picture of her running cross country from high school.  She ran VARSITY as a Freshmen, dang girl you are amazing and so RIPPED!!

The GORGEOUSHollie @ LolzThatSwimsent in a picture of her running a 5k that she convinced her bff to run with her. I love it, and I love the double fisting of water, you are hardcore and with that face we KNOW you are PUSHING IT!

The PRETTIEST Nina @ RunDanceLove sent in a picture of her FIRST half marathon from last September.   Nina said, “My time was 2:22 and I couldn’t be prouder of my time! I was lucky enough to run most of it with my awesome running friend Mary, but I made her run ahead the last 4 miles since I was burning out. I finished strong across the finish line though!

Have you ever done a tri-athalon?  Do you think you ever will do a tri-athlon?

-I know THIS GUY does….he is CRAZY good.  If I keep working on my swimming I might just have to get back into them.  With all of this biking I think I might have to do a century ride this summer:)

What things bring out your competitive side?

-Anything active, board games, being right about something with BIlly (even though I never am) and probably about 15 other things but I am too ashamed to admit…..I have a problem.

Have you ever eaten anything besides gu’s/chomps etc. while you work out?

-I enjoyed a marvelous pb and j while biking today as for running…….starbursts, swedish fish, a banana, an orange and once upon a time a granola bar.

DID YOU WATCH Biggest Loser……this is a yes or no question only.   I will be watching it after spin tonight and if you ruin it for me I will come after you with my huge steroid/weight lifting biceps.

You are carazay. I don't know how you do it.

Triathlons are so fun and addicting! I can't wait to get into hardcore Ironman training mode after Boston. I KNOW you would rock a tri if you wanted to! Swimming is the least important part! :-)

Reply

I will not ever do a triathlon… the swimming. And the follow-up hair-washing. Just not my thang.

I tend to be too competitive. Board games with kids can get ugly :P

Trying to think… I think I ate a burrito once while riding my mountain bike… but that wasn't really working out.

Reply

I'm doing some tris this summer and biking downhill is definitely what scares me most!!

So far I've only done one with Matt where I did the swim and run and he did the bike :)

Reply

You would be a kick ass triathlete… get through the swim and bike then just run down everyone! :)

I've done a bunch – anything from a short sprint to a couple of full Ironman races. There's something addictive about them!

Reply

i didn't know you had done triathlons too! that is awesome…i am terrified of them because i HATE swimming. seriously. I do not know how to swim more than a lap without drowning.

I pretty much cannot do anything without making it into a game or making it competitive…oops.

have a good evening :)

Reply

I want to do a tri.. but I am scared of bicycles and swimming.. so not sure how that is going to work out.

Reply

i used to eat granola bars when i was doing long runs when i was training for my first marathon.

and i don't think you're psycho at all. when i was injured last year i probably spent more time working out than i did when i was running. because, for me, nothing was quite as intense for me as running was so i could do more of it.

Reply

I really hope to do a tri-athalon someday! I can't swim either…well, I can doggy paddle alright, but even I lose to my dog :(

I am competitive when it comes to games, sports, and and getting all the attention…ha!

YES! I watched the biggest loser!

Tri's scare me. I can't swim with my face in the water plus Texas is not a bike friendly state. But my 8 yr old is doing one this fall. Trying to get him started early.
NO eating during workouts. I'd puke.
I am competetive when it comes to board games. I may or may not have tipped the board on during a game of Risk that I was losing.
I watch BL religiously. I can't believe they sent…..JK. I hate it when people ruin my shows.

Reply

I've done a handful of sprint tris. I relayed an olympic distance and did the swim leg. We came home with some hardware so I was pretty proud. There are too many awesome athletes out there to hit the podium solo.

I am competitive sports, but oddly not running. More competitive at tennis, and golf…..game type sports.

I don't think I work hard enough on the bike because i have eaten some crazy stuff with no distress…..Doughnut, bagel with cream cheese, summer sausage sandwich (wow?!?)

So happy for you that you have been getting some good workouts in again! Enjoy your night.

Reply

I'm proud to say I'm a triathlete ;) But I come from a swimming background and am a shitty runner.

And please… drop the second A from "triathalon" :P
I live riding up hills… just so I can ride back down again. 60kph down a hill is exciting and just… awesome!

I want to do a sprint tri this summer, but am afraid of the swimming. My form sucks and my tiny butt sinks to the bottom when I try to swim!

Reply

I loved the triathlon I did, so much fun! I think it's just hard for me to spend time in the summer training for something not totally running. You wait all freezing winter for this time of year so you can run it up!

See you at spin tomorrow!

Reply

I've never done a triathlon, but I'd love to try a Sprint. I just need to figure out how to swim first. ANOTHER reason I need you nearby, Janae! I guess I can drive to Austin and have Lindsay and James Cotter teach me. :) I get competitive with myself in running, but I'm not too competitive otherwise. I want to come to your Spin class!!!! I don't watch The Biggest Loser…does that make me a loser?

Reply

I totally <3 triathlon!! and I've totally eaten a PB&J on the bike – also boiled potatoes…and bananas filled with almond butter. Anything goes on long bike rides!

I watched TBL with a 6 y/o, 8 y/o and a 10 y/o. They were GLUED to the tv screen :-)

Reply

I did one tri once and hated the swim! No more! I stick to land activities =)

Reply

I want to do triathalons sooooo bad! I swam in high school and ran so I think biking would be the most foreign thing to me…someday I will get to doing them!

Reply

I have never done a tri before and can confidently say I never will! I admire those that can, but the swimming part DQs me!

I am super competitive, in everything, but quiet about it because I know it's not always appropriate!

Reply

You have to straighten your hair? I am surprised! It looks naturally straight. I have to flat iron mine, too. It's naturally very curly, and I HATE IT! It'd be different if it was pretty normal curls but NOPE! NOT ME! I get the kinky, frizzy, unmanageable curls!

Reply

Just embrace the wet hair. Wear it as a swimmer badge of honor.

Also, when I did like 12k meter swimming workouts, I used to eat snickers bars in the middle of sets.

Reply

Race car video games bring out my competitive side! Idk why because I'm not a competitive board game player.

I would love to do a tri one day! I was a swimmer growing up, but I feel like it'd creep me out to swim in a lake/ocean for some distance.

Reply

I have no idea how you find time in your day for all of this! Maybe it's just because I'm a rookie, and it takes all I can to run for 20 minutes straight haha.

I am way too competitive for my own good. Pretty sure it's not very becoming to some people, but I just cannot help it.

I am watching Biggest Loser, but honestly I just don't like this season this much. Maybe it's the new trainers…they are throwing me off.

Reply

Yay! That's me!

I've never done a tri, and I hope to one day, but I am not a fan of the open water swimming thing. I do really want to start racing in duathlons though! I just need to buy a bike…

I watched BL last night, thanks so my wonderful boyfriend who endured watching it with me. Though he mocks the entire show…but I must put up with it if I want to watch it.

ABHAA a pbj… NICE! and DANG your aunt is RIPPED!!!!!!!!! when people tick me off or hit me.. especially in basketball.. ALL HELL BREAKS LOSE WITH ME!

Reply

Hahaha wait girl I love you, biking is my faveskies, I definitely remember one time eating a sammich while spinning! I felt so hard core at that moment.

Slash I linked back to you awhile ago with my picture!! Should I also email it to you?

Reply

I would love to do a triathlon, but I'm an extremely week swimmer and biker, plus I don't really have any place to do either… maybe some day!

Reply

I found out that a pb and j or pb and banana is the best pre race food or during the race!! I digest it soo easily!!

I emailed you my picture… do you post all of them?

Reply

I wish I could really swim. That's the onl thing holding me back from a sprint tri. You are so hardcore!
I've never eaten anything besides half a protein bar on my runs…maybe some day I'll try some of the things you wrote about.
Yes, I watched Biggest Loser last night and loved it!

Reply

maybe you can wear a swim cap to keep your hair dry??

Reply

dude… can you email me songs from your spin class?? my work has these SICK spin bikes and i want to try to do it… but i have NO idea what im doing so ill need help!

Reply

BAHAHAHA. I'm so honared to be on your blog. :)

I seriously want to get into tris-but I hate biking forever and ever.

Reply

Glad you enjoyed a good day full of workouts!! You rock!!

I've never done a tri but I've thought about it. I really enjoy swimming and biking is pretty cool.

I am way too competitive about things!!! It's not always a good thing…

Yes, I watched BL!!!!

Reply

Can't say I've ever eaten a pb & j sammie while working out… i usually use chomps to fuel, but I'm trying out gels again because of the guys at runners corner.

Never tried a tri. The swimming part terrifies me… even though i know how to swim.

I get competitive when someone tells me i can't do something … or during a race at the very end… i HAVE to beat everyone in font of me, especially those who are older or boys… HA!

Have not been watching BL religiously :(

Heya! I've been lurking around your blog for a few weeks now and thought I'd drop a comment! It has nothing to do with your post, but I just wanted you to know reading your blog has inspired me to find a frozen yogurt place and now I'm hooked!! I've been there twice this week already ;)

PS- love your blog, it's refreshing to find someone who really enjoys life!!

Reply

when i first started running long i used to eat crustless pb sandwiches with dried cranberries while i ran. crazy but worked so well! Adding bananas also helped as well! add moisture to the sandwich.

and i've never done a tri..one day; maybe.

Reply

Yep! I did the Iron Girl and I loved it. I would like to buy a bike before I do another.

I'm not competitive. I wish I were more competitive. Never eaten GU outside of a race/training :) And, yes to BL.

Reply

whohoo! glad you're having a good time biking! :D
you'll do great in boston!

Reply

I hate the bike, so I will never tri … hahahaha… anyway- no I haven't seen it yet, either. I usually wait until a semi long run and watch it one Hulu (if the weather is bad.) It got me through 16 miles Monday, cuz heck, if they can push it, so can I.

Now be prepared to be jealous- I had maple cotton candy during a run. Or before, during and after, but that doesn't matter.

Reply

WOW that's a lot of biking! like a lot a lot of biking wow! Great job though girl:) I'm totally SOOOO Super jealous of your auntie's arms too…omg sooo freakin' fit! I'd kill for super strong arms! :)

Reply

Awesome on the cycling!! :) Do you wear cycling shorts with a good chamois (pad)? I have, um, those issues too, and the other thing that helps is chamois butter. The problem with spin bikes is they don't have women specific saddles on them (which have a cut out so you don't put pressure on certain parts).

Reply

I ate a granola bar once when I was running. It's really hard to chew and run at the same time!

Reply

You are a crazy girl! 75 minutes of cycling? I'd die, seriously.

I haven't watched the Biggest Loser and I don't eat goo while working out.

Knowing that I have a chance to win brings out my competitive side.

And no, I've never done a triathalon but hopefully I will someday!

Reply

I love triathlons! I totally prefer them to other endurance races just cause I get bored so easily…by the time I'm sick of swimming, it's time to hop on the bike! :) Plus the training is easier cause it's broken up between so many things!

Reply

I don't think I could get down a PB & J while spinning! I'm totally imagining you eating a sandwich while still spinning a way, so funny!
I wanna do a sprint tri, maybe this summer I'll do one.

Reply

hahah i love this title bc i feel like the gym is my 2nd home too. i've never done a triathlon! boys bring out my competitive side. yes boys.

Reply

I'm competitive in everything. Usually to the point it is out of hand, and i have to leave the room. But hey…it makes things fun! And i'm a triathlete at heart. fo sho

Reply

Hahaha, we have the same posture. I've never done a triathlon.. I can swim, but it's more of a doggy paddle than it is anything remotely acceptable for a proper race!!

Reply

I love triathlons – 3 sports in one? hell yeah!!!

I especially love freshwater open-water swims – they're so refreshing!

Unfortunately I'm a sucky swimmer and I'm even worse at biking :( but this summer I'm going to make it my mission to improve!

Anyway dude, doesn't your race page say you took first female in your sprint tri? you're not a loser! you're a WINNER!!!

Reply

Lol I have eaten WAY worse on the bike. A summer favorite is Snickers. I will freeze a few Snickers and take them on a 3-4 hour bike ride. Sometimes they melt but it is SO worth it!

For a great workout I take DynaPep, it gives me an enormous amount of energy. I found this coupon code 10MAR11 that you can use at http://www.evolutionnutritionproducts.com

I am doing my first Tri in August and I haven't even bought the bike yet! I need to get my swimming in shape too. I don't have much of a competitive side except with board games. During the Baltimore marathon a guy is famous for giving out gummy bears and that's probably the only thing I've eaten besides Gu in a run. I didn't watch the biggest loser yet and my friend posted who was kicked off on her facebook and now I'm mad at her.

Reply

I've never done a tri-athlon but I'm doing a duathlon at the end of May. I am not a big swimmer so I figured I would stick to the things I like. I am competitive when it comes to board games, especially if it's Scrabble. And I once ate peanut butter M&M's while running. I don't recommend that though, it made my stomach hurt.

Reply

You name it I eat it on the bike :) McDonalds dollar burgers are the best haha.

Yup I love triathlons.

You, competitive? WHAT?! I would not have EVER guessed haha.

Ummmm no yummy food pictures today?!

Reply

"I don't like losing" I love it. I just realized I have a race photo I can send you from my sweet race this weekend!

I've never done a tri. I worry that I would actually drown.

Reply

– I may have a done a couple or dozen triathlons

– I know that guy, nice guy he is

– I like to eat fruit while biking

– I watched the BL, the preview of next weeks show is the shocker

– There is Duathlons, run – bike – run, if you dont want to deal with chlorine

Reply

Yes, I did my first sprint tri Sept 08 and I want to do another one! I get competitive mostly with myself. But seeing someone else do something only pushes me because I know I can do it too. OR when someone tells me I can't do something, I can't stand that! THAT is motivation for competition! Sometimes I eat power bars, Luna bars or Clif bars when I work out. But I like GU and sports beans for runs. I need to catch up on BL!

Reply

I love tris! They are so much more exciting than running races, in my opinion.

Reply

I love eating PB&J on my long rides! Cyclist eat tons of food! AND, I love some triathlon :-)

Reply

I am such a competitive person – it's actually quite sickening!!!

Reply

I am turning the big 3-0 in June and I wanted to do something big before I do. I've been running a long time so I decided to go for a tri on May 15. And yeah, swimming is really, really, really hard.

Reply

You go girl and I love how you are keeping it real with PBJ on the bike! I'd love to do a tri, in my head I think I could do it, but I'm struggling now with running and the ups and downs of motivation. You inspire me.

Reply

I love triathlons, and sometimes have to shower 3 times a day! It's annoying, my skin is dry and my hair looks like crap but I'm a sick addict. Two Ironmans a year is heaven to me, my coach won't let me do 3 :/

Reply

I can't wait to do my first triathlon!!!
