Cheese and My First Marathon Video

After the great question of eating lunch or breakfast after waking up at noon I decided upon lunch because it seems more acceptable to eat See’s candy after eating lunch foods than breakfast foods.  Forgive me all of you breakfast lovers, I will never sleep through the hours of such a glorious meal again.

Lunch was pretty dang good if I do say so myself.  I had a spinach salad with apples, cranberries, walnuts and a vinaigrette dressing with a grilled cheese/grilled apple sandwich.  I am strangely obsessed with the cheese and fruit combo. Click here for my all time FAVORITE SANDWICH!

You know how I posted the video of those two AMAZING Ironman finishers……I decided to whip out the video from my very first marathon finish!!! Enjoy!!

This is the finish line for the 1/2 marathon and the full marathon.  My chip time was 3:20 but the gun time was 3:23 (I started towards the back of the coral and didn’t get to the starting line until 3 minutes after the gun went off).

We are off to have Sunday Night Dinner with friends……don’t worry my family is still alive and well but a lot of them are out of town and so we are not doing a family dinner.  I know, somehow I will get through this and I will probably use a pan of brownies as my coping mechanism.
————————————————————————————

What was the first race you ever did?
-Salt Lake City was my first marathon but the Provo Canyon River 1/2 marathon was my very first race (I did it for fun with my Aunt 4 years ago).

Do you like the fruit with cheese combo?
-Obsessed.

Do you have bigger meals on Sunday Night?  What are you having for dinner tonight?
-Maybe it is growing up in Utah but Sunday night dinner=Thanksgiving feast.  I am not complaining, I really enjoy looking forward to starting my week off with a full belly of delicious foods!  I am making chicken TACO’S……we seriously need to branch out of eating Mexican food every night but it is so so good!

I have a great idea…. If you want, EMAIL me a picture of you at a race or after a run/awesome workout and I will post them on my blog and link you (if you want to be linked_.  I find it really motivating to see other’s doing races and accomplishing great workouts so it will be an awesome resource for all of us when we need a little help getting motivated!!!  Email these photos to [email protected]

My first race was a 10k to raise money Cancer Research. It was AMAZING and I loved every minute:)

And I LOVE that idea of yours!! Can't wait to see everyone's photos! Maybe I'll send one, if I can find one where I don't have my eyes closed or look like I'm dying! :P

Get this: ezekial bread, spinach, havarti cheese and strawberry jam. Toast it. Die.

I don't even know what my first race was. It was probably the Turkey Trot, but I'm really not sure. Sad.

I'd planned on making stir fry for dinner tonight, but Mike, Bungee, and I kind of just napped our way through dinnertime, so I'm not sure what we'll have now!

Great video!! That's awesome!!!

My very first race was a 5k for lung cancer. My Aunt had recently passed away and she had liver, colon, lymph node and lung cancer so I did that race in honor of her and raised a couple hundred dollars.

Tonight we are having salsa chicken! Mmmm. It's great leftover so I made enough for tomorrow night too!!

I sent you my picture!! I think that's an awesome idea!! You rock!!!

I got chills from watching that! Wow, what an amazing feeling! You were so speedy at the end of 26.2 miles!

FFruit+ cheese combo = GREATEST. You HAVE to try grapes on cheese pizza!! Not cooked though, just pop it in your mouth and then take a bite of pizza:)

Slash I don't ever really have big family dinners because they all live out of state:( It's okay though because I eat enough for a whole family:)

YESES I am going to send you a picture!! And you should send me a mission I feel pretty picture:)

Yum your lunch has my mouth watering. That video is too cute. :)

I love reading about other people's first races! I just completed my first race in December (a 5k) and will be running my first half marathon in 2 weeks.

I usually do make bigger meals on Sunday nights. That way, we have leftovers during the week!

Reply

My very first race was in 2003. It was an itty bitty 5K called the Mission March back in my hometown. That was my first and only race until October of 2009 when I ran the Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure in Nashville. I've been racing regularly since.

I've never even thought about combining fruit and cheese on a sandwich, but that looks really good! Do you do them on a panini maker or something? They always just LOOK so pretty!

Did you really think that picture thing through? lol You have almost 1000 followers, and I bet most of them will jump all over it. I hope you have a BIIIIIIIIIIG inbox! lol

Oh, and that video is awesome. :) My hubby got my marathon finish on video too. It was not nearly as pretty as yours. hahaha

Sweet video!
My first race was a 5K, but my favorite was my first half marathon a few months later with my mom! I loved training and all the long runs we did together.
Fruit + cheese rocks, especially apples & cheese melted together.
Love this idea, I'll definitely email you!

Okay I have always thought your name was pronounced "Jay-nuh" so I'm glad I saw that video! & it's so awesome you have your finish on tape! My first ever race was the Mayor's Marathon in Alaska in 2009. It was amazing. & I just had pancakes with nutella for dinner which was even more amazing.

Reply

I am right now consuming cheese and grapes! yummy combo!

Awesome video! Love hearing Billy so excited.

Right now I am obsessed with goat cheese. It makes every salad taste fabulous.

My first race was a 5K 5 months ago. I won it, to my tremendous surprise, in 20 min. Then of course, my second race was the 1/2 mara last weekend.

I'll send you a pic.

Dinner on Sunday is small (because I run when the kids swim, and that's 5:00 on Sunday). We have a big glorious dinner after church though.

Reply

my first race was the marine corps marathon. it was a disaster. i had a stress fractures. there were tears. i lost the ability to walk. and yet I somehow fell in love with running and racing and haven't looked back!

cheese and fruit=always a win.

i am still so full from eating a heaping pile of eggs benedict crab style after my race this morning that I'm not hungry for dinner.(this is definitely a first). I think it's going to end up being a cereal and peanut butter night for me.

Reply

Why are the pictures making me hungry!???? Cheese and fruit are a delectable combination. Maybe someday, I will accomplish something awesome like you. A marathon sounds like it would be awesome.

Reply

Love the video!!! :) My first race was a 5k almost 2 years ago. I have been hooked ever since! :)

Reply

Love the video!! Was the Billy recording it?? He is just the the best fan/spectator!! :) Wish I had a video to share, that's so cool! :)

Reply

Mmm, fruit and cheese is delicious! I always like cheddar and granny smith apples, although marscapone is amazing with pretty much any fruit.

Sunday dinners are nothing special here, although we usually pick stuff that is more complicated to make for Sundays because we have more time.

My first (and only) race was the 1st on the 1st 5K on 1/1/11. I wish I had a sweet video like yours!

Reply

eeeek! That video gave me goosebumps! i love all the people cheering for you! You've got a great support dear friend.

Fruit and cheese- heck, ANYTHING with cheese is awesome in my book!
Dinners round here on Sundays= lame-o! Especially during the winter months, but once summer is here we like to grill out a lot- I cannot wait!
My first race was a half marathon of which I was severely undertrained for. But it seriously got my blood going for all this running stuff. I love the idea of posting the pics, but someone mentioned you may have to have a pretty big mailbox for that!? Who cares! Its a great way to keep the motivation going! Thanks!:-)

Reply

I love how excited your family is in the video!

Cheese and apples combo sounds yum!

Reply

My first race was a 5k and I ran it in 35 minutes, which I was proud of, because I had only been running for a few months before I did it.
Fruit and cheese- one word YUM! Sundays- usually a take out night for my sister and I, tonight was Olive Garden, yum!
Very cool idea of posting race pics, super motivating!

First race – Texas Marathon (half) on 1-1-11. I ran it with my 15 yr old. It was amazing. I'm hooked and doing my first full this October.
The sandwich combo looks so good. I'll have to try it. Can't wait to see pictures.

Fruit and cheese- FAVORITE COMBO EVER!

The first race I did was a 5k a few years ago before I started running- I ended up walking almost the whole time :) My first race as a runner was my half-marathon last year. So excited for my second one next Sunday!

Reply

Love the video! They sound so sweet and proud of you! I am going to have to try a fruit and cheese sandwich!

That video is great. It's even better that we can hear your cheerleaders yelling for you and about you the whole time. Such excitement :)

I'm on day 7 of a clean eating challenge (details in my blog) so tonight's dinner was an awesome veggie/lentil/quinoa stew. sooooo good!

Every sunday is big meal night @ my house. I go home, lay on the couch, watch countless episodes of criminal minds & eat obscene amounts of food. sundays are a day of rest & even though I ran 13 today, I rested too! ;) happy week!

Reply

My very first race was a half-marathon too! Skipped right over those 5 & 10K's. Oops :)
Great video!! After 5 half-marathons, I think I'm going to start training for my first full very soon and I hope I look as strong as you did!

<3 you girl! So inspiring!!!!

P.S. Don't EVER make me wait that long to read a new post from you! I'm a super stalker and refreshed over and over this morning for what seemed like forever! Glad you got your much needed recovery though :) xoxo

I forgive you for not eating breakfast foods, even though that's what I would have done. :)

My very first race was a women's 4 miler that I signed up for with a friend back in 2005. I wasn't a runner at all, but it was really fun. I didn't run again until this past August when I started the C25K. My first race THEN (and first I actually RAN the whole thing) was a Halloween 5k. Loved it and have done 2 more since. Am doing a 1/2 in November!

Yum to fruit and cheese, yes! And growing up yes to Sunday dinners, but now we have no family here, so no :(

Reply

That video made my heart all warm and fuzzy! Fun idea about the race pictures! I will email you soon! :)

LOVED LOVED that video!! :)

i love the fruit and cheese combo. I really love brie with pears or apples. A lot of times i'll bake it all together with some turkey for the best sandwich ever!

Reply

oh man, my first race? it must have been a junior high track meet waaaay back in the day… 1998. man now i feel old. that was 7th grade. :)

Reply

I love the fruit and cheese combo! I like to wrap brie cheese and strawberry jam in pillsbury cresent dough and bake it…then eat it with crackers….yummy!! My first race must of not been very important since I have zero memory of it, but I've also done at least 25 mountain bike races a year for the last few years, so remembering them is always hard! I also think Sunday nights=FEAST!! It just feels right to start a new week with a big meal!

Reply

first race was the fit5k at my college. I'd never run before. and signed up on a whim. I am hooked.
fruit+cheese+nut butter = delicious!

Umm that video is so sweet. Love hearing Billy cheer for you! I told my hubby that he had to be my photographer at Ogden. :)

my first race was probably the Freedom Run 5k a few years ago (back when I hated running)…

I like cheese and I LOVE fruit, but not together :/

We just got back from St. George, so we went out to dinner to our fav mexican restaurant, Joe Bandido's in Springville. Way better than Joe Vera's. ;)

Dinner is usually my biggest meal in general, especially on the weekends!
Hope you have a great day!

Awesome video beautiful Janae!

I hear so many good things about the fruit with cheese combo! But me + cheese = VERY unhappy belly! So no cheese for this girl!

Sunday nights are usually breakfast for dinner nights! I had french toast for dinner last night! yummmmmmmmm!

Don't know the first race I ever did, if I had to guess it was a 1 mile zoo run when I was like 6 years old or something. I didn't get the point of the whole event, why were we all running from point A to point B? I get it now ;)

Will email you a pic.

Reply

Oh man, I'm not sure if there are photos from the first race I ever did! I think it was a 5k in 1998, but I'm not really sure!

I LOVE fruit+cheese, SO DELICIOUS. Especially apple or pear+ any cheese, I was drooling over your grilled cheese sandwich!

I'll email you one.. after a find a good pic :)

PS: You have such a pretty name! I liked hearing how it was pronounced in the video..cuz I was totally pronouncing it wrong.

What was the first race you ever did?
My first race was a 1/2 marathon in Worcester, MA–finished in 2:01, I was pretty happy with that!

Do you like the fruit with cheese combo?
Oh yes, my favorite sandwich is grilled cheese and apple or turkey and cheese panini with green apples! YUM!

Do you have bigger meals on Sunday Night? What are you having for dinner tonight?
Not really…usually its a smaller dinner because we are trying to veg out as much as possible before another work week starts. We had spaghetti squash and grilled chicken for dinner!

Reply

So, um…not sure why your video got me all teary eyed but yeah, it did. =) Something about that finish line!! And then Billy's "Wow!"'s. So cute!!

AWESOME!

Reply

Love the video! I am going to have to dig in the archives here! I'm really still amazed at how fast you ran your first marathon and then just a few months later KILLED that time… I might have to steal this idea!

Fruit with cheese. I'm thinking cheesecake with strawberry glaze fits this category in which I had two pieces during the baby shower for supper this weekend! We are going to go back to big Sunday family dinners in April after family long runs!

Backreading…..27 miles!!!! You are a freak (in the kindest sense of the word) Nice job:)

First race I ever did was a local 5K three years ago. I finished in just under 25 minutes but felt like I won the Olympics. I WANT that feeling back…..

– I prefer my fruit seperate, its my dessert

– Sunday is a good big dinner night to eat

I LOVE cheese and apple or cheese and pear combo. Have you ever had a cheddar and apple pie?

But by favorite sandwich, and I swear it tastes good, is a Peanut Butter and Jelly grilled cheese. You have to use sharp cheddar and it has to be grilled but it is oh so delicious.

Reply

Oh, I've done that Provo River Half..dug it. I wonder does it still take place?

What a sweet video. I love that your fam (friend?) is immediately like….well she's probably UNDER 3:23 since she probably didn't start with the gun, or whatever she says. Hah…. some people know us runners all too well. :)
