New Years Resolutions

After seeing so many amazing posts about resolutions and new goals for the year I decided I would post my goals for this year too.

1. I definitely have a type A personality and I am going to work on being a little easier on myself.  I am a perfectionist but this year I am going to work on embracing my flaws and loving the weirdo that I am even more than I already do:)

2. To spend more time with this girl. Sis and I live so close to each other and yet we get so busy and never spend time together.  I am going to make a special effort to visit her and bring her cookies.

3.  SUB 3 HOUR MARATHON.  Not like I ever talk about that very much or anything.  If it doesn’t happen in Boston it WILL happen in St. George.

4.  To eat just as much or more candy and ice cream as I did last year.  I love it and I am going to eat it if I want to.

5.  To be more like Jesus.  The biggest thing I want to work on this year is to be selfless.  I really want to switch my mindset to OTHER’S FOCUSED.  I am going to work on putting other’s needs before my own.   This is more like a lifetime goal.

I know I am the queen of random pictures but I had to put this one of my neice in.

hmmm, is it bad that i have already forgotten that its a new year like 49 times today? people have to keep reminding me and i've been "had" by the "haven't seen you since last year" comment more than i care to say…

oh well…

in 2011 i will run a 5k. it's been 4 or 5 years since my last one….i know i should do it. i just never do…

other than that mr. dawn and i are working on some self-improvement things together: like early to bed, early to rise sort of stuff… we'll see how long it lasts…

Aww, that picture is hilarious…the one of you and the magnifying glass. ;) But the awww part was the be more like Jesus…what a great goal…me too! :) I want to be present with my children and family and not get lost in the past or future…and LOVE fully. Um, please help me out with my question that I just posted about fast marathon courses….

Yay for weirdness!!! I love that you are going to embrace that in 2011…so fabulous!! Love the blog btw.

Cheers!!!!!!!!

I run 9 out of 10 days but have only ever done one race – a 5K back in like, '08. Embarassing! I want to do my first 1/2 marathon and finish in under 2 hours! Not exactly a lofty goal, but it should make for a good start!!

Love your goals. Especially # 3 – duh :). What is your marathon time now? Under 3?!!

Agree with the "Self-less" one. I want to do more volunteering this year, and just more good "deeds" in general…just as simple as smiling at other people or buying a coffee for someone behind me…sometimes – hey dollars are dollars and I have to save! :)

I am most definitely going to embrace my inner weirdness, and love my flaws more. And going to bed earlier, and by earlier I mean before 3 a.m.

I love your goals, girl. I, too, have been feeling like odd man out, not having done a goal post. Lol. Maybe I'll do one tomorrow :)

I think for now I'll say #1 is increased punctuality WITH decreased stress! A toughie, but inspired by you I'm taking it on!

great goals. mine is to touch my toes. and close things.

My number one goal is to cross the finish line of the 2011 Cleveland Marathon upright with a smile on my face. I certainly don't want to wake up in an ambulance at mile 25.52 again. Great goals and great pictures as always!!

Reply

I like your goals! I think running a sub 3 hour marathon is crazy insane, but if anyone can do it, it's you!! Good luck this year!!

Reply

GO GO GO JANAE YOU CAN DO IT!! Sub 3 hour mary is pure madness, but you can totally do it you beautifully crazy gal! :D
And I love the ones about embracing your weirdness and eating more sweet things! Sounds like me! :P

more like Jesus everyday, especially the humility part. Gosh I wish that was easy. But its not and it will stretch us and make us stronger! Amen that girl. Looking for to a great year with you!

In 2011 I will be 100% committed to my healthiness journey!

You are going to have a Fabulous year, can't wait to read about it!

I agree: to be more of who God made me to be and less of who I keep trying to be. To look at others more than myself, and to love others well, not conditionally or selfishly.

Reply

I agree with your #5. To be more like Jesus in all areas of my life.

And also to get a puppy. :)

My number one goal for 2011 is to take life as it goes. I am sooo type A and like to plan out everything and then FREAK if it doesn't go my way. I need to stop being so serious and start living a little more! :)

Reply

Those are some good resolutions! I hope to stay injury free this year which will also help me run more than 1000 miles in 2011! I also know that I think a lot about myself instead of others sometimes and that is something I want to work on.
Did you see Skinny Runners post a day or so ago about resolutions? She had some funny ones, but at the end she had this:
"become more like the person God wants me to be and less of the person I want me to be."
I thought that was a good way to put it and I hope that I can remember that throughout the year! Happy New Year!

I love your goals–concrete and all about embracing life. Way to go!

My goal this year is to run my first full marathon. I started training 6 months ago for one in 2 weeks but got injured in November. It's still something I want to accomplish and I plan on training again once I'm healed.

Reply

I'm with you on #1, one of my top goals is to not beat myself up when I make a mistake, just move on and become better because of it.

Reply

Your sister's name is Rachelle? Mine too!! Crazy.

My resolution is to be able to get through my half and full marathons next year so I can raise money for kissesfromkatie.org. :)

Reply

My number 1 goal is to make a transition away from a teaching career into a nutrition one!

Reply

Ooooo I love your goals (and that firt picture of you with a big ol' head LOL)!

My main goal is to just be happy! No stress, no worry, no negativity!

Reply

Love your goals! You can come over here and make me fat if you promise to run with me ;)

Reply

My hope to finish a 140.6 race, but this year I decided to have a mission statement instead of resolutions

Reply

Great goals!!!

My number one goal is to just be more patient!

Picture #1-no words…

#3 is a given.

I would say you're doing pretty well on #5. Jesus associated with EVERYONE. He wasn't exclusive, he wasn't judgemental, He was simply unconditional love. You make your way around blogworld CONSTANTLY encouraging others. You so freely give of yourself and have quite a nifty-(my circa 1950 word of the day) way of making others feel on top of the world!

Happy 2011!

You are amazing. Great goals for the New Year. I KNOW you'll get that sub-3 hour marathon this year… I just know it. :-)

Reply

my #1 is a tie between working for the environment and working on myself. it could go either way! hehe!

Reply

Very impressive marathon times this year, a 3:04 at Logan, … amazing!! Happy running and good luck on the sub-3 goal! :)

Reply

My goal is pretty simple. Just to be "present" in my life. To not miss anything b/c I am worrying about the future or regretting about the past.

Reply

All wonderful goals! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Reply

I've been reading but totally MIA (I hate commenting on my phone!) I love your goals for the new year!!

I think my biggest goal for the year is going to be to throw myself into my prep and reach my top three placing at regionals to qualify for provincials! I WANT THIS

Reply

Great goals! I don't think I've commented before, but I love your blog. You pretty much make me laugh out loud on a daily basis. :-)

My goal this year is to maintain some sort of life balance while training for my second Ironman. I also want to run a 3:30 at Boston, but we'll see about that one.

Reply

To be happy, which of course involves a million other goals feeding into it. But it's simple. If something doesn't make me happy, I'm not going to do it.

Great list and fun pics, Happy New Year!

Reply

bahaha i LOVE that mega magnifier picture. too awesome. i have goals for this year, both big and small. mostly it's about keeping the momentum going from what a great year 2010 was for me.

Reply

I totally understand about wanting to be more selfless, but be good to yourself and recognize all that you do do for others. This blog, for example, has touched many people. You have made a powerful impact on many, and some strangers. That is the Lord working through you for sure!

#1 goal: I couldn't have said it better than that previous poster "be more of who God wants me to be, and less of who I want me to be.

Reply

Great post!
My number 1 goal is to train (and complete) my first marathon- I just want to finish it, I am not putting a time limit (although IO think the official time limit is 6 hours). :)

Reply

I think your goals are the best I've ever heard of. If I were to make a goal, it would be to eat as much peanut butter as my little heart can stand, and to try ketchup on as many foods as I want. Wait…I might already do both of those things…

Reply

I have several goals but if you could sum them all up it would be to be a better runner and a better mommy!

Reply

hey! Love your goals, especially #5. It's so easy to get caught up in life and forget to be selfless. I'd say that my goals are to grow in my relationship with Jesus and become more like Him and to give this whole blog thing a try. Happy New Year!

Reply

Love the rundown – sounds like you've got a great balance going on.

My biggest goal for this year? To be more intentional. I've always been a planner, and I'm pretty good and following through, but I want to make decisions more deliberately, rather than diving in head first… Who am I kidding? I'm still going to dive in… I guess I just want to look a little bit more, before I leap (gotta love old Red Cross water safety adages!).

Reply

Love your resolutions!! I cannot wait to read about your sub-3:00. I know it is going to happen!!

Reply

Oh, I don't know if I have one #1 goal – I have a bunch. I really want to try to get back down to 'race weight' while still eating candy and ice cream. ;) And I want to have a healthy, un-injured left leg!!

Reply

great goals my friend… trying to sift through mine right now… running goals are in there for sure, but family stuff first! you and your sub 3:00 are wicked awesome… :) hopefully i'll be in st. george with ya – darn lottery… :) i hope you get it in boston first!

Reply

my #1 goal this year is to read the B.I.B.L.E. through for the first time. i just bought a chronological bible and i am on day 2! :) i have many other goals but this is priority!

i hope you get your sub 3. you are spectacular.
:)

Fabulous goals GIRL!! Your mirror pic is hilar!

I am so excited to see you reach your goal of running a sub 3 hour marathon. Then, you will be on the cover of Runner's World! I can totally see it! Really!

It sounds like you and Billy are both SELFLESS and supporting each other throughout your marriage journey!!

Happy 2011!!!!

Reply

I love your posts, Janae =) Your inner weirdness is Lov-er-ly so keep on keeping on =)
I am going to try to be more selfless this year too and try to make sure my priorities are better. I am, by nature, very selfish and impatient and those 2 traits, along with 5 youngsters, do not a party make =)
Best wishes for you this year, Janae (((HUGS)))

Reply

I love that pic of you and Billy – you both look so happy and the blurred background makes it look like you're FLYING!
I have three goals for 2011: complete my first triathlon (and hopefully many more after that), plan the rest of my October wedding without losing my mind, and graduate from college with honors. I'm on the right track for all of the above – let's hope I can keep going! hahah

Reply

GREAT goals girl – happy new year!!

Reply

Looks like you've got some great goals Janae! I'm sure you will have great success in all of them!

Reply

I love that first picture. It kinda reminds me of Kristen Wiig from SNL.

Reply

I love your #5! I think our culture teaches us to be more "selfish" than "selfless" so it's something we really have to work on! But as Jesus is our example, we must put others before ourselves! Thank you for sharing that!

Good luck on your 2011 goals!!

Reply

My number one goal? To live in the moment and be happy with where ever live takes me! :)

Reply

LOL at #4. I wish I had your metabolism. And I would loooove to sub-3 but mine is definitely quite a ways out, if ever.

Reply

Sub 3-hour marathon!?! You are a machine! And my idol!(Yes, I am reading all of your blog posts now.)
