Sunday is my rest day.

So what do I do:  I make up for all the calories I burned throughout the week from exercise by baking treats while somehow laying on the couch for 88% of the day.

You know it is going to be a good day when it starts with this..

With a little bit of this…

To make these beauties…..

And some of these cake balls with white chocolate….

Somehow I always end up in charge of making dessert for family dinners.

You’d think that I had a reputation to eat large amounts of sugar and get really really excited to search my cookbooks for delicious recipes.

The cousin is back from Spain and all is right again in the world.  While she was in Spain I couldn’t even think/talk/hear/see the movie “Taken.”

I am not going to lie, I was a little worried about her while she was gone..

My aunt made lasagna (that was to die for) salad and french bread.

Only 44 more hours of work until Christmas break officially starts.

Can’t wait to get my sweat on in a few hours, my arteries are feeling a little clogged.

Have you ever lived in a country other than the one you were born in?

-I went to college for a little while in Hawaii….does that count??

-Billy lived in the Ukraine for two years and speaks fluent Russian.  I am still working on my English.

What is your favorite Italian meal?

-Lasagna and some form of bread.  The more carbs the better right??? I did the ‘Atkins’ diet in high school and lasted three days.  I need carbs so that I don’t turn into a monster.

Do you always have huge Sunday dinners or was it just because your cousin came back? We do a big family dinner once a month – we call it "Last Sunday of the Month" (real original, right? :) )… I only have 35 more hours of work until winter break.. muah haha !!

Have a great day!!! xoxo

so in 44 hours are you and Billy hoping on a plane to come visit us in Austin?! I can promise you warmer weather and sunshine, hehe!

I lived abroad every summer from the age of 12 to 17. Best years of my life. I think that is why I married a foreigner, haha.

Happy Monday friend.

New to the blog and loving it! Italian food and sugar are essential to my life :)

My favorite Italian meal included hot, crusty bread and oil for dipping. I also love a really good, homemade sauce.

Mmmm all that food looked good!! As far as a different country, no I technically haven't lived in another country but I did grow up in the North and went to college in the South (Ole Miss) and it FELT like a different country. Loved every minute though.

Favorite italian food. Easy. Spaghetti and meatballs. And lots of bread.

I love baking. I'm so jealous right now!! Holiday baking is one of my favorite things!

I lived in Hawaii for 3 1/2 years which I suppose is technically America… though it didn't always feel like it. I now live in Djibouti, Africa. I can't wait to get back to States. The good ole South in particular!!

Tiramisu is my favorite Italian food.

First of all-Cute boots!

Laughing at the Atkins diet. Joe and I tried that South Beach Diet about 5 years ago. We made it to day 9. We were sitting on the couch listing all the food we would DIE for and within minutes were tripping over each other running up the stairs to make cookies. I don't believe any of that cookie dough actually made it to the oven! If I could have but one thing in the world, it would be bread…..

Sounds like you have a great family! I love how you're always getting together! Good lookin' food!!!

I'm Canadian but I live in the US. Does that count:)

Reply

Ummm, I'm American but I live in Brazil! =D
Your family sounds so awesome!!!!! Plus ya'll always have yummy-looking food!!!!

Oh and my favorite italian food would be spaghetti! =D

44 hours of work til break?? I work in a school too – I've got all of this week + 3.5 days next week.

I was born in the US/only lived in the US. My only non-US experiences are brief visits to Canada (Ontario), Mexico, St Thomas (US Virgin Islands) and St Martin (French West Indies). I learned German for 5 years and would love to go to Germany some time, though!

I could never have tried the Atkins diet. I love pretzels, bagels, pasta, bread… My favorite Italian dish is Vodka Penne. Or really any cream sauce. Luckily, I rarely let myself have it.

I lived in Vienna for a summer semester in college. It was fantastic!

I'm posing recipes for you this week.

I have to say I do love lasagna, but I also love a pasta I make that has calamata olives, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, spinach, garlic, lemon juice, red pepper flakes, and of course parm cheese. I eat it pretty much every week.

I have tomorrow off, then no more days off work until Christmas Day! Retail can really be a pisser this time of year! But, I do get overtime–whoohoo!

I didn't live there, per se, but I did spend 2 weeks in France a few years ago. Some may argue that where I live now is a foreign country…
Hawaii? That's so cool! Why did you come back??

Reply

Yes, My hubs and I eloped in Germany, had our first son there. We've also lived in Japan.

I really love Italian wedding soup. I'm making lazagna this week!

Reply

I am a total sucker for ravioli ;)

Reply

Lately I have really been enjoying pesto sauce with ravioli. Its so flavorful and creamy. Buitoni sells reduced fat pesto basically ready to go in the refrigerator section and it's perfect for a great quick sauce.

Amazing blog! Glad that I found it. Your recipes look delicious.

It is funny because in Europe we think that US is a dangerous place (maybe because of the movies) and consider spain france, greece much safer countries.

Reply

Yay for the upcoming break!!!! I wish I could say the same.

Also Im a carb lover. I love manicotti.

Reply

I love ravoli! I recently had pumpkin ravoli, not really Italian but it was SO good.

Reply

I have like 80 hours before Christmas break. So not fair. I love Lasagna! YUMMY!

Mmmm and now I am starving. I have never met a pasta that I didn't like!

oh my gosh-i love the movie TAKEN. i have a 7 year old daughter and after watching that, I declared that once she's an adult, I'd never let her leave the country without me. or the state. or the city. she's staying with me forever :)
i've never lived anywhere outside the country. i've lived in 5 states though.
fave italian meal. i can't eat gluten or eggs or cheese anymore, but when i could, i LOVED manicotti :)

Ohhhhhhh thats what a cookie dough bowl looks like, I havent seen one lately, mine always seem to be "licked" clean by the time I get to it.

Reply

Mmmm… this weekend I baked mint brownies and my family's favorite holiday cookies (a butter shortbread dipped in powdered sugar). Yuuum. I also had a sucktastic long run, but that's ok.

Reply

Oh that looks so good! Of course you'll be in charge! I've lived in the same city my whole life, never mind a different country.

Reply

I want to put my face in that mixer:) Looks delicious.

Hawaii?! I need those details:)

I am a USA gal I guess, never lived outside the country, would be fun though! Always wish I had studied abroad.

I lived in New Zealand for awhile during my student teaching in college. I also spent a month in Thailand traveling with my hubby and brother before we had kids. In response to your comment: 1. didn't get a good pizza shot that would do the pizza justice. 2. Hamstring is feeling great, thanks for asking. I hear it a bit today. 3. Not sure my next race. I think I might be crazy and train for the Newport marathon here in Oregon along the coast (that is in June) but I for sure am running the Hippie Chick half marathon on May 8th. Hope you have a great week Janae!

Reply

btw, when you are training for a marathon, are you one of those runners that stays on the lower end of the mileage rather than the higher end? I'm also curious as to what that book you were reading or perusing in the bookstore had to say about that.

I lived in Germany for 3 years when my husband was in the Army, we loved it there! (I met my husband while visiting friends there).
I love pasta!

For some reason, the movie Taken was the go-to source for anything international-related in one of my classes this semester. I couldn't figure out why – might have to go check out the movie!

Reply

I went to high school in Athens, Greece (a hardship I know) and lived in Paris for a semester while in college.

I want to try those cake balls. Can you send some my way? I saw Eat, Live, Run did those last week too.

Reply

Yum! Snickerdoodles! Do you have a recipe for the cookies that have a hershey's kiss on the top?? If so, could you share it with me? Hubby would like me to make them. :)

Reply

My housemate just made those cake balls and I devoured them. Ah they are so good. Saturdays are my eating to make up for everything burned day ha.

I was born in the US but lived in London and went to school for the first half of my schooling there.

Reply

No. Hawaii does not count :)

I lived in Korea for 10 months right after college, and of course, you know, I live in Mexico now, and I've been here permanently for a year and a half.

And I love ravioli.

I've missed your blog! We've been out of town and now I'm finally starting to catch up on my internet life. ;)

Cutest family ever – and yummy desserts. Billy and I lived in Belize for a while but they speak English there. Billy lived in London for a couple of years before we met…of course they also speak English, but Billy is fluent in Spanish which has helped in many situations. My favorite Italian meal is a big bowl of pasta with veggies and marinara or pomodoro and lots of bread!

Reply

Never lived in another country, everyone pushed me to do a semester abroad, but I wasn't having it.

I, like you, am always the dessert minion at get togethers. Maybe it is because I usually make things I hate but everyone else likes- win win for me, I get to bake and they eat it all:)

Italian food…I grew up in an italian family and that was like every day food, I never crave it any more and prefere pizza to pasta for my pre-race meals- but if you really made me choose I would say baked ziti, it is easy and always tastes good!

Reply

Well, I grew up in the Yukon Territory… yes, it is still in Canada, but it is about as far north in Canada that you can live and live in a HOUSE not an IGLOO. I loved every minute of it though and would move back in a second if not for the memories of a -57 C (which I think is -70 Fahrenheit) Christmas the year I was 12.

I don't really eat much classy Italian food 'cause I don't really care for pasta… but I will eat pizza all day long!

And your photo of the mixer is my favorite. I could/would/do eat cookie dough for breakfast!

I was born in Romania, grew up in the Middle East (Kuwait) and now go to university in Canada! :)

I like paninis <3

I went to Hawaii for a little bit in college, too!!! Crazy. I studied there for a month, so I really mean little bit, but the point is that I was there. And not in the tundra known as Minnesota.

All your baked treats look amazing. Especially those dark brown chocolatey things. Topped with white chocolate. Yeah, those. YUM. :)

Reply

I've always lived in canada… I almost went to Malta for a year abroad program through university though!

Favorite italian is cannelloni hands down… with ceasar salad and a ginormous glass (okay bottle) of red wine ahahah

I lived in Denmark when I was 5 for about 6 months, my Dad did an exchange with a danish family so we lived in their house and they came and lived in ours :)

Any AUTHENTIC Italian food does the trick for me. I'm very picky about my Italian food. Anything cheesy, garlicy, and heavy :) You know, the kind of food that works like Ambien! LOL!

I grew up in Berkeley, CA and then moved to the East Coast for 12 years… that's a lot like going to a foreign country (or coming from a foreign country… lol). But seriously, I haven't though it is a long-time dream.

And it is too hard for this Italian gal to pick just ONE Italian meal!

That movie is so scary. Im pretty sure i had a stomach ache the whole time i watched it.. I cant even imagine.. Glad your cousin is home safe!

Reply

That lasagna looks amazing! And so do your desserts! YUM! And I'm glad your cousin is home safe and sound. Mission? I am still working on the English language as well. Nothing foreign for me yet. I'd like to speak Italian or French. They both sound so beautiful. Or better yet, just have someone speak it to me!
