Doesn’t everyone immediately change into pajamas/old race shirts as soon as they get home from work?

My conversation with myself after school:

“Dang it, I have to make cake for my health lesson tomorrow.”  (Yes, I do an object lesson to teach abstinence that involves cake, it is awesome.)

“OOH, look at that disgusting banana on the counter.”

“Produce will not be wasted in this household and if it is, everything I stand for is a sham.”

I then look up my favorite banana muffins recipe.

“That Almond Joy I had today was delicious…..Janae back on track, you have a lot of baking to do before spin.”

“Coconut should be in everything, including muffins. I can’t wait to lick the bowls of both the cake batter and banana bread once I am done.”

And that is how my coconut, banana with cinnamon sugar topping was born.  Try it, you won’t be disappointed.

For some reason it is always so hard for me to get to the gym at for my Wednesday night spin class. I always complain to Billy about not wanting to go but as soon as I starting sweatin’ I automatically remember how much I LOVE it.  Its a high if you will, and I can’t imagine life without it.

After teaching spin the only thing I feel like is a salad, so there you have it…..

IMG_2644.JPG

Steamed broccoli, snap peas and zucchini along with corn, potato, onion, tuna and topped with salsa and bbq sauce.

P.S. The winner is…..the SWOOP.  Thanks for your help and my Mom will be sending you a check in the mail this week for being so nice to me.

P.P.S. The knee is still feeling awesome after yesterdays 12 miler:)

I want to hear about your exercise highs!!!

What types of exercises bring you your high?

-Running is my number one.  Spin, the stair climber, pump and a hard session of intervals on the elliptical gives me my high too:)

Explain the euphoric feeling you get after an awesome workout…….

-I feel unstoppable, confident and my perspective on life changes completely! I see rainbows and leprechauns.

Do you lick the bowl of the things you bake?

-Brownies, cookies, bread, cake…you name it.  I still have the teenager mentality when thinking about salmonella….it will never happen to me.

I am jealous of your knee…can we trade knees? Ok great thanks.

I get a runners high after doing an awesome interval/speed workout either on the treadmill or at the track. It just makes me feel so accomplished!

and yes of course I like the bowl when i bake.

I want to know how you teach abstinence with baked goods!! Those muffins look amazing!

I always get hungry after rading your posts. Nice salad.

Highs – tempo runs are awesome.

licking bowls after baking – is there not some sort of rule that makes it a requirement?

Any workout that challenges me leaves me feeling wonderful afterwards!!!
I may not lick the bowl, but I do taste everything that I bake before I feed it to other people…..quality control, I tell ya! =D

Reply

I usually save the bowl and spatulas for my husband. I'm more of a eat as you go and sample the finished product kind of girl.

Speaking of banana recipes, I have THE best banana bread recipe ever. I'm sending it over. I hope you like it, cause I made it up. Don't hurt my feelings :( lol

I don't lick the bowl unless there's chocolate! :p

The sport I miss right now is SOCCER. I love running, but I miss playing on a team. When my kids are older, I hope to make the round trip to town at least once a week to play in a competitive league. There is no soccer here because the school is so small they can only field 8-man football and volleyball simultaneously.

Glad your knee is doing well!!

ok, so i don't know if it's my "maturing taste" or whatever…but i have been on a serious coconut kick for awhile now… delicious. meanwhile i used to avoid anything that had a hint of coconut in it… when did i get old, and why didn't i notice…

People who don't change into their pajamas (or at the very least, jeans and a hoodie) as soon as they get home from work are totally missing out.

And you've got to share that abstinence lesson… probably won't fly with my college students in American history classes – but still…

I definitely change into PJs/workout clothes the minute I get home, its kind of rediculous!

Running is the ultimate workout high, especially a really hard core track workout!
I usually like the spoon/bowl, except with chocolate stuff, not my thing!

Glad to hear the knee is feeling good, only a month to go!

– Running brings me my ultimate exercise high. I love when sweat drips off of my ponytail. (Gross, I know!)
– After a killer workout I feel like I can do anything and everything and feel like a rockstar
– I probably would if I baked. I don't think I can count the cookies I made last night. They were of the frozen variety and pre-cut. In my defense they were from a Girl Scout.

I'm a bowl licker, huge spoonful of batter, freezing dough balls, kind of girl! A good hard game of basketball gives me the biggest high! I could play for hours and I feel like I am a teenager again when I play! I emailed you what I texted you so hopefully I have the right email! Two more days until the weekend!!!

Reply

I always change into sweats/pj pants and t-shirts when I get home from work!

Your muffins look fabulous!

How many calories do you typically eat per day to fuel everything you do and accomplish in one day? I would love your opinion and advice! Thanks for a great blog :)

Reply

Yes I always wear my running shirts in fact it's quite ridiculous as I have more of them than regular clothes!!!

Reply

Thanks for the play list! I need new songs sooo much!
PS – Is there really a runner's high? I thought a runner's high was simply NOT throwing up afterwards.

Reply

Gotta be during a long run (realizing I am going to finish a distance I didn't know I was ready for, or the random runs when my slow legs surprise me and I pretend I'm fast, lol), and then the rest of the day afterwards is bliss.

Reply

Running, especially sprinting at the end of runs and yoga. They make me feel so strong, my day is instantly better, and I start imagining my next run right after!

Reply

– a long bike ride is my favorite, nothing makes me feel better then 50 or so miles on the bike.

– NO!! My Baker seems to always "claim" that there is nothing to lick, I personally think she licks it herself, HMPF!!!!!!

Cute stuff!

Almost old bananas are the best, all the sugar comes out:)

Digging your spin list! I am in training so I've been doing my own spin classes, fun. This is perfect.

-I serioulsy love your blog LOL :) I change into my pajamas as soon as I get home. Fiance gets mad and says I dont dress up enough, sometimes for him, I'll just leave my hair down ;)

-Running, Spin, and a good yoga class give me a high!

-I feel strong, powerful, and awesome!!!!!

– I ALWAYS lick the bowls of things!!!!!!! :)

I looove BBQ sauce on salads!

And please, if anyone knows how to avoid licking the bowl, please let me in on the secret! :)

Running is my number one too… the longer the distance the more hardcore I feel when I'm done, haha.

I'm also immune to Salmonella. Sometimes I lick the bowl and then decided I don't actually want to bake the cookies anymore! "Cookie dough, meet freezer… your new home."

Reply

I get a high after a good spin class! I love the last few songs when you just sprint your heart out and work your legs until they can't take anymore. LOVE IT!

Reply

I sadly admit to experiancing runners high lately… it's a little scary it's come to that. But otherwise a great weight workout or snowboarding usually gets me going!

…. And I lick everything. I"m seriously worse than a 2 year old. I figure if I was going to die from raw eggs it would have happened A LONG time ago, so I'm safe. ahahaa

Reply

Running is definitely my current favorite workout high. (I might be obsessed.) I also love hiking because you get to tackle the incline and typically end up with beautiful views. I always lick the bowl when baking!

Reply

I haven't had an exercise high since my last race! Hopefully that will change soon :)

Reply

You look like such a happy baker! I lick the brownie spoon. I'm afraid of salmonella but obviously not enough!
Running is the first high, spinning class second, outside biking third, and I used to go to a kickboxing class that was right up there but haven't been for years.
I love your playlists. I know I've said it before, but still… keep em coming!

Reply

Thanks for sharing your spin playlist!! Yep, first thing I do when I get home is put a t-shirt and sweatpants on…and no socks!

1. What types of exercises bring you your high?
#1 Running (races especially),#2 Riding outside on the trails,#3 Spin.

2. Explain the euphoric feeling you get after an awesome workout.
I feel powerful and strong. I agree that my perspective on life changes completely!

3. Do you lick the bowl of the things you bake?
I don't lick the bowl, I swipe it with my finger and lick my finger or use a spoon to swipe and lick the spoon!!

Reply

I have to tell you… the barbecue sauce is freaking.me.out. :D

Reply

First thing I do when I walk in the door is get out of my teacher clothes and in to my comfy clothes! : )

1. What types of exercises bring you your high?
Running. I always feel SO much better after a run. And I get a huuuuge high after races. Love the feeling.

2. Explain the euphoric feeling you get after an awesome workout.
I'm pumped about doing it again. I'm proud of myself and I feel like I can tackle anything.

3. Do you lick the bowl of the things you bake?
If I can get my face in the bowl, yes I lick it! haha. If not I will use a spoon, my finger, just about anything I can use! : ) And I wonder why I have to work out!

Reply

I really want to hear about your lesson! I'm totally still a bowl/spoon licker.

Sometimes I get my "high" from running but it can also come from a sweaty gym session too. I feel like a stud after my workout!

Reply

I love that first picture of you! You look absolutely adorable. :)

As for my high, I'm just starting to get it from running. I used to be a dancer and figure skater, so I'm still trying to get use to, uh, traditional methods of working out. Running's good for that!

Reply

Haha I totally do the same as soon as I walk in the door! :D
It's a good run all the way for me! Especially speed intervals! But really any cardio'll do it :)

Reply

That's my biggest problem with baking, is that I want to not only lick the bowl, beaters, spoons, but I want to eat everything every step of the way! Ugh, I wish baking wasn't a trigger for me, because I love doing it.

A good run does it for me, but kicking my own arse on the stairmill or a really great strength session is pretty awesome too

Reply

great post as always. I'm cheating for the second time today (my goal was no blogging or blog reading all day until much later). Do you race with music? Just curious. I think part of the reason that I enjoy running without an ipod is because my playlist is pathetic so I'm glad you listed some of your playlist for spin. Running and stairmaster do it for me…something that gets me working hard and sweating. I have never tried spin but I would like to switch things up a bit and give it a go. Do I need special bike shorts for a spin class? I know, I sound so clueless (because I am when it comes to spin). Okay, I'll try to keep from writing a book this time.

Reply

I lick everythinggg. The spoon, the bowl, everything. I get that euphoric feeling after running for a long time (for me). It feels like just a total runner's high and I'm so happy. I wish I could take one of your spin classes they sound awesome!

Reply

happy the knee is feeling good.

definitely get a high from running, after some runs I feel invincible

Reply

Muffins , pretty sweet. Glad the knee is doing okay

Seriously, I barely wait to get through the door before I start stripping and putting on ratty ol' sweats. I start looking forward to that moment at about 9 in the morning, haha!

Reply

I'm the same – come home and put on pj bottoms and an old race shirt! Your salad looks awesome – I would have never of thought of that!

Reply

I walk in the house, throw my junk on the counter then change into PJs before doing anything else. I'm such a slob!

You should come be my spin instructor…I need some more hardcore spin classes! At the Y we have "indoor cycling" but I've beening hearing a lot about certified spin classes!

Reply

Man I would love to be in your spin class. And yes to licking bowls/eating batter and dough. Totally safe.

Reply

Thanks for sharing your playlist!

That "Du Hast" song is by Rammstein. The video is pretty angry too! (see youtube). I remember the song well because I took German in HS and I don't think our German teacher was very pleased when a classmate brought it into class and played it one day!

Amanda@RunningHood-
I wore bike shorts to one of my first spin classes, but I don't think the chamois was necessary. I usually just wear crops now.

Reply

Janae – I love your spin class, it totally kicked my butt!! And I love your blog. And you :) ha ha I'm calling you to hang out soon!
